i am using set cpu...and i set cpu frequency to 800, but sometimes i find the cpu frequency 1200...rebooted but still no use...i think task manager is killing set cpu...anyone can help me to stop setcpu from getting killed? or should i use some other app for underclocking?

SetCPU isn't even worth of that US2. Seriously I thought it'd help me save my battery life by setting the clock rate at wanted rate, but it's doing nothing but under clocking the CPU whole time and instead of saving battery it's draining it. I have tried every profile, still. I'd NOT recommend SetCPU to anyone.
I have tried Tegrak too, the free version, not for overclocking, but that thing doesn't even show at status bar, it's hard to find if it's running it not, let alone it's performance. After trying both these I found it better to have nothing installed but to Enable the inbuilt Power Saving feature of the phone.
Regards.

I own my X10 from January but didn't use it as my main phone - instead I played a lot with tons of apps.
BTW se's 2.1 ROM is VERY stable! Even when I have about 200-300 apps installed (internal memory was full) and about 20-30 was launched after boot - I had no FCs or any other issues (except slow boot up (about 2-3 minutes) and slow start of new apps). It's very stable comparing to HTC for example.
About CPU frequency - I used SystemPanel to monitor a lot of things, including CPU usage. With 2.1 ROM CPU frequency was 245-500 MHz at idle with CPU load 7-30%.
Now with 2.3 ROM CPU frequency don't fall lower than 720 and mostly is about 900 MHz at idle! With CPU load 1.9-9%.
Seems that it should consume battery A LOT!
Recheked with CPU Spy - strange result: at idle (no load, just stock apps and CPU spy) 80-90% for 998 Mhz, 10-19% for 245 Mhz and percent or less for all other frequencies!
Am I alone with that issue?
With screen off CPU work right. About 60-70% in deep sleep, 30-20% at 245 and about 10% at 998.
But what's wrong with screen on??
What's on your X10??
Link to original thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1200595
Steps to reproduce/check:
1. Install CPU Spy (from Market)
2. Set screen timeout to 30 minutes
3. Start CPU Spy
4. Press "Reset timers"
5. Leave phone for 2-15 minutes (do not turn off the screen! don't press power button!)
6. Press "Refresh" on CPU Spy
7. Observe time percentage at 998 MHz

facing the same as you, but i am not noticing anything weird about my phone, battery is ok and no lag in normal use.
Yeap, I got that issue too

Everything is fine until you don't try to do something that require screen to be on. For example browsing web for a half an hour will drop battery for 15-20% or even more! With 2.1 ROM numbers are much better!
Will wait for any real response from SE.
BTW - try to measure CPU frequencies on 2.1 ROM. You'll see the difference.
Possible workaround

cpu
Use Set CPU, free fom market. Set scaling window to "ondemand", Set sliders to
998 max-245 min. Check set on boot.

If your battery is draying fast with "screen on" than - yes, that's it.

I use thgo2 v2.0 with modified stock kernel included, problem with stuck on 998 solved, i checked it on cpuspy and it works.
Try it, you never regret.

I found this kernek that is thego2 kernel..If i install it with xrecovery does my problem will be solved?

I have see a couple of people talk about their screen off / on call script, wherin clocks are limited to a different (lower) max freq when in a screen off / voice call state.
I did some searching and really couldnt come up with anything, if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be awesome.
Thanks!

Use System Tuner from market
SetCPU is an application that uses "Profiles" (Not the CM ones) so that each profile can be set to a different CPU governor and frequency. This way you can set a screen off or a high temperature profile to use a lower frequency. Fortunately, SmartassV2 has a very good frequency management so you really don't need SetCPU if you are using it.
i swear i have seen something like an init.d script that does what im asking... id much rather not have another app running in the background.

1% battery drain in 4 hours... minimal screen off frequency... higher frequency only if requested by kernel. I bet your script does only the minimal screen off frequency.
You can do that in tasker app. Its paid app but you can grab a beta trial from their site.
ok... lets try and rephrase this question.
i DO NOT WANT AN APP THAT HAS TO ALWAYS RUN.
i want a scrip that will detect when the phone is in voice call state and limit the phone to a frequency of my choice.
Hi!
Is there an app that can change the CPU governor according to useage? I mean, I'd like to have the governor on "ondemand" setting, while I'm not using the phone (the screen is black), but it would be cool if an app would set the governor to "performance" as soon as the screen lights up. It could be done with Tasker perhaps, but Tasker doesn't want run on my phone, doesn't even want to install...
Is there an app for this? Thanks for the answer!

Such a dumb, I am... Of course SetCPU! I've been using NoFrills for some time, I'm changing that. Thanks!!!
Use Set CPU, go the 2nd page in that and there you can select profiles.
For example suppose your kernel allows you upto 667 MHZ, then you can select in the profile something like :
When in call, max 300 Mhz.....or Screen Off, Max 200 MHz.
in the 3rd page of Set CPU, it also allows you to undervolt, you may try with -50 in the values.

My default profile is 390-1170 MHz with performance scaling, and I've set up a profile for screen off with 390-780 MHz with ondemand scaling. I suppose I can set it to lower frequencies as you suggested.
How does undervolting affect CPU usage? I don't know much about these things
Hello guys,
I hope you can help me with this. I am on Temasek's CM13 with Boeffla Kernel, using CoolTool to monitor my CPU, free memory and current I/O usage.
Sometimes my phone feels really laggy and I see that the I/O usage is at maximum (~40MB/s) but CPU usage is low. Using 3C Toolbox I am unable to find any suspicious app behaviour, because there I can only filter by CPU usage and such, not by I/O usage.
This is weird because CPU usage is low, I/O usage is high for at least 10-15 seconds and the phone feels laggy but I am unable to change it. I understand when this happens when I open up a new, big app such as a game or YouTube, but in day to day use, quickly going into settings and having this feels weird.
Did anyone have something like this or maybe has a tip for me?
Thanks a lot in advance!
Regards!
Do you have swap file/partition enabled? If so disable all kinds of swap settings.

Thanks for the tip. I am using 400MB zram, swappiness 80,Boeffla kernel.
Does movement between compressed ram and uncompressed ram count as I/o usage?
I will try using the phone without zram.thanks again!
