Stock ICS battery drain - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

Hello, I have been reading and can't find a solution for my non rooted stock ICS I717. It seems my battery is draining super fast way faster than Gingerbread. I have checked my deep sleep and it is working and I turn on b4 unplugging. Is there a solution besides rooting and installing a custom ROM?
Thanks,
Soggy

Get an app like better battery stats and check wakelocks to see if an app is kicking in and waking your phone up.
Check your battery details and see if itcshows awake lot.

Thank you I got the app yesterday and trying it. Where and what in the app am I looming for? Thanks!

OK I think I found my problem. For some reason the WiFi is sucking some major juice so I went into its advanced settings and set it to only be on when screen is on. Now battery is lasting ALOT longer...

U really should root so u can under volt and over clock u will get 2x the batt life plus..all the smoothness of r awesome devs
g-note clocked 1.83 in quarter mile!!!

I have a question. What exactly is "deep sleep"? I've been coming across this term a lot on the forum; did a forum swaeh, but couldn't find an answer. Sorry for the nooby question, I'm new to Android. Made the move from Apple not too long ago.
Also, can someone please give me a link on how to root (again, I don't really know what exactly to search for). I recently upgraded to the ICS update.
Thanks.

deep sleep is pretty much how it sounds: state of the phone is virtually doing nothing, basically using lil battery

Media volume appears to be jacked up on this ROM. When turning my volume down 3 notches, it almost goes silent. Did I miss a fix in the settings? Sorry to post this under the "Random Q&A" section but it appears that XDA micromanages harder than my boss. Thus, I can't communicate with the actual dev. Yes, I've searched this site as well as Rootzwiki, but have not found an answer. Thanks for your time!

I am going to try tirmat 1.4 kernal instead 1.5 tomorrow. I heard its better.. (xda 10 post sucks ..before you can post in dev section) so far this rom has little hick-ups but good.. try next time to add gapps in the d/l (like liquid ics) might be easier..

I do like how it gets quiet quickly, however it kind of defeats the purpose if it goes silent before you get to the bottom of your media volume. I think whatever it is it's also influencing the peak volume. Don't get me wrong, I've said it before and I'll say it again: by far the most reliable ROM I've run to date on my Bolt. Thanks for all the time you're investing!

This is the only place I can replay but great build dev. I can't post the picture but I got 1day and 8min off this rom. I just put it back on charger for 30 min total maybe.. I drop it to 3g at work and bump it back to 4g at lunch and I break.. can't wait till the new build ..

I hope this isn't too late to be noticed/I certainly don't want to add to the trouble you've gone to Jester, but I noticed a force close under menu/settings/sound/volume. Not a big deal, just wanted to bring it to your attention since I didn't see it mentioned on the main thread. Thanks for everything you're doing for the community!
Since I can't post in the dev section, just wanted to say thanks again Jester! 1.3 is fantastic so far! One of the most responsive roms I've ran yet. Only one question / issue so far - I ran the PDroid patch this morning, but when I flash it my bolt freezes on the boot animation. Anyone have any suggestions?

Yea, I cleared the Dalvik and Cache - just tried it again and I got the same freezing. Also, unrelated, on this rom mlb at bat won't let me watch games. It works on any sense roms, but it can't find my location. Did the gps fix and I get a lock within 2 seconds. Otherwise no issues since flashing!

No problem. I wasn't trying to call you out, just confused. To answer your question, it looks like you may have to patch the ROM yourself to make it compatible. This recent version had fixed compatibility issues with a few ROMs, but since Jester's is new I doubt it includes his ROM (even though it's CM based, there are going to be differences). See the screenshot below or visit: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1357056

Where would I clear battery stats. I tried to do a battery calibration but wont even let me charge to 100%
The baked in Battery Calibration app will do it for you, but it's recommended to barge to 100% before callibrating. You can also clear battery stats through recovery where you would clear your dalvik. There should be an option to clear battery stats.

[Q] Battery drain in stock 6.1.A.2.45 - how to deal with it?

Hello,
I've been using the Xperia S for about a week now and i immediately noticed the shortened battery life - especially compared to the 30-70hrs that I've been reading in some threads. I've flashed it to 6.1.A.2.45 and wiped everything and I'm facing the same problem. for 7 hours of work today i have 37 mins of talking over 2G, 1.3 h screen on at 40% and the battery is already at 45%. Android system is showing 1.13h in the Keep awake field and i also noticed on the graph that something is constantly awaking the phone.
If i disable the data connection and turn off sync i get amazing results - the battery drops about 3% for 6-7 hr during the night. I'm using exchange services to check my corporate email and when i changed it from Push to 1hr checking the battery drain got a little bit less offensive, but still this is causing a lot of trouble. I've installed GSam Battery Monitor and i noticed, that Android system is responsible for the biggest % of battery drain. I also noticed that the magnetic field sensor seams to be on all the time - i haven't installed any compass apps, should it be working all the time?
Can you please suggest how to deal with that problem? I knew that the Xperia is lacking in battery, but didn't know it's draining that fast and cannot last even a day.
I'm on the same firmware but with xsspeed kernel V6 set down to 84mhz and bloatware apps removed and my battery is brilliant!

Even i wanted to hear from you.. Which apps are bloatware apps? (Im also with 6.1.A.2.45 and my battery sucks!)
Kernel is in the development section but you need to unlock your bootloader. My battery is normally around 30% by bed time and I use it quite a lot during the day and I'm normally up for work around 6am!
There's lists somewhere around the forum of unnecessary apps
Sent from my LT26i using Tapatalk 2
Just delete everything you don't need. Install gsam battery monitor to see which apps are taking up power and keeping the phone awake.
I don't see the point of buying the phone and then underclocking it, a bit like buying a supercar and limiting it to 29mph, lol. There's no way to compare battery life with other people as usage will be different, I'm a low/medium user and get about 30 hours, those who say they get days out of one charge probably never use the phone and switch it off at night.

try the XSX kernel.. shame that theres no interactiveX governor but you could set it to interactive and add a profile for screen off at the lowest frequency.
I think I might have some success! I unlocked my my booloader and flashed arakmar's advanced stock kernel 15. I also flashed the latest XSSpeed Rom but I had to keep arakmar's kernel because with the XSSpeed kernel the phone was not booting. I don't observe any drqin for now, when the phone is locked the battery shows a straight line and the % is now dropping. I'll test a littpe further and i'll write again.
Realfelix, sorry for the noob question, but how cwn I use interactive governor with my current configuration?
Sent from my LT26i using xda app-developers app
its not a noob question as you need to flash the XSX kernel(or any that supports other cpu governors than ondemand, conservative, performance and powersave) and set the governor to interactive with Nofrills CPU control(free app) or setCPU(paid).
I found the xsx kernel causes a lot of reboots

You're still getting way better battery life than I get, and my phone isn't awake for anywhere near the same percentage as yours is.
In any case, as Prashanthme said above, install BetterBatteryStats, use the phone normally for a day... or however long it takes your phone to go from 100% to nearly dead - which looks like 3(!!!!!) days.
Then examine the screens, logs, and dump file generated by the app to find out what is keeping your phone awake.

[Mod] Thermaconfig changes for Better Performance

Hi All,
There are modifications for the thermald.conf, which controls your CPU and GPU after a certain temperature.
I've modified the file to fit different profiles that'll work for people. So without further ado, here are the profiles.
Remember to backup before flashing, and not responsible for bricks and blah and blah. However, if something goes wrong, you're more the welcome to message me for help.
Stock
This is the stock file with no change.
Stock Therma
Optimized Stock
This is a slightly optimized stock that deals with the overheating and throttles the CPU and GPU properly.
Optimized Stock
Gaming
This prioritizes the GPU for gaming over any other feature
Gaming Therma
Gaming (Plus Battery Saver)
This prioritizes gaming; however, also throttles your CPU to help save battery.
Gaming Therma + Battery Saver
Better CPU
This is probably the best battery saver; however, it drastically throttles the GPU.
Better CPU
Full Power
Ignores any throttling rules, but battery drain will happen. And phone will overheat quicker. However, you'll experience the fastest speeds.
Full Power
Best Battery and Overheating
This sacrifices performance to optimize battery and subdue the heating issues.
Best Battery
will wait for braver souls then myself before trying. But awesome work man! Does this work on both ICS and JB?
Cant even try this "Server Offline. Please hang tight while we get this resolved." Once its fixed I'll try some of them out

Yeh they should go to system/etc if u are correct about them Goin to app instead then they won't do anything. I think he just took the zip from someone and tossed the files in there. Also if you are running JB don't flash this the file name is wrong it has to be
thermald-8064.conf so you guys should wait for him to fix it and personally I would wait on flashing this unless he tested it first.

not even close, all it does it either slows/lowers down or doesnt do anything to CPU/GPU or screen brightness depending on the temperature of CPU/GPU. Basically its system underclock depending on temperature.
This shouldn't really be under Dev... It is something that has been known about for quite a while and even has a tutorial posted under the App section for a while now. It was never released like this because it can very well allow the phone to fry itself.
Disclaimer (I have been using an edited thermald with all governors disabled for a couple months no with no issues.)

I think there's a slight misconception on folder structure. I could have named it whatever, but the updater script pushes it to the correct folder.
I have tested, and it works wonderfully. However, the risks are always present if you choose to set the temp tires higher or remove the throttling.

Yeah you definately come across as an a-hole.
Its a fresh factory wipe. When the phone boots for the 1st time. I check battery usage the biggest user is bluetooth with 49 days usage and 60% usage.
Its a fresh install!!! How can that be?
Instead of wasting your time trying to be a smartass. Just dont bother replying. I was asking if anyone has ever seen this issue before after a fresh stock install.
I was expexting answers from people who may have experienced it.......not keyboard warriors!

your right, I deserved that.
and I will apologize.
good luck
I have seen things like that before and it's most likely just a bug in the code somewhere. I am sure after a charge cycle or two you won't see it again. As long as you aren't noticing any odd battery drain or anything I would not worry
