Hey is it possible to connect my ltevo to my computer, take the internet from there, then broadcast it as wifi? I'm going on a trip and the place I'm stating has no wifi, only ethernet and the 3g is very very poor. Thank you in advance.

You don't need to use the phone to broadcast the wifi, it's possible to use your laptop alone as a wifi hotspot. Google "Windows laptop as wifi hotspot" for a bunch of info. Ubuntu 12.04 actually has the feature built in, I believe. Or, at least, it was built into Mint 13 when I tried it out this week.
I have not actually done any of this, just passing on the info.

however.. is there a way that i can make a network with my phone? so i dont need a router present? i have a wifi adapter for my xbox and would like to be able to stream to it wherever i am.
Yes but not advised. The hit soot feature can be used to network ute xbox and laptop together but verizon will be sure to charge you for all that bandwidth ill be using while on hot spot

I think my question is misunderstood. What I'm trying to do is watch video from my phone to my xbox. The app I'm using uses wifi over my local network (not internet).. However I would like to be able to do this without the use of a router. Somehow letting my phones wifi and my xbox wifi network together.. I tried wifi teather which puts the xbox on a network (plus unneeded internet) however it does not put my phone on the same network.. I need to find a way to make some kind of virtual network they can both connect to. That way my phone can stream direct to xbox.. I'm not sure if there is an app for that. But I'm still searching, hoping someone has a way

I'm looking to access PC's internet and pass it to the Phone. Is this possible for our phones?
There are a number of cheap usb wifi adapters that can double as access points.
I'm guessing you have a laptop with mobile internet?

I have wifi at home but at work, I get no signal (data or voice) and wondering if I can connect via USB. I don't have wifi at work.
Yeah they'd probably have issue with you wirelessly broadcasting their internet.
Bluetooth however would work and is cheap. And won't interfere with the network at all.
I've read else where on xda that people have gotten it to work, but the only instructions were for linux, and I got a feeling your work computer is xp.
How easy? Alot depends on the operating system and bluetooth adapter.

The dilemma:
Just moved into a new home and I don't have internet or cable for a week. So, with my Rezound I thought I would just tether to my computer and hook my computer to my tv.
I downloaded PdaNet and got a USB error. I have 3 USB ports and 3 USB cords including the one that came with the phone and none worked. Error code=1. I then tried easytether and same problem.
So, just for ****s and giggles I plug my wife's Droid 3 and it works no problem. Watching Hulu with buffering issues and all. WTH man?
I'll take any suggestions. Is there a Tether program that works or settings to try?

I had problems with this also.
When I was running CleanROM, my iPad 2 would never connect. It would see the hotspot just fine and seemed to connect, but I could never getan active Internet connection.
Then I flashed the ineffabilis ROM and whatever version that ROM is running works perfectly for me.
For the record: I haven't had any problems with pdanet on my stock Rezound.
Do you have USB Debugging enabled and the phone in "charge only"?
Sent from my HTC Rezound.
Yes on both counts. I have a 2nd laptop and it takes a couple reboots to get it working.
On the working laptop I'm running Windows 7 (but no HDMI). On the non-working I'm running Vista (but my wife's D3 works).
I use Easy Tether with no problems on my stock Rezound.

I have this problem too and it all boils down to how the signal is being broadcast and weather or not the receiving device can accept it. Seems that my tablets (xoom and flyer) as well as my ps3 need a softap connection while the only thing I can make broadcast is adhoc. Sucks! I'm sick of switching Sims back to my Tbolt just to get some wifi!
Listen to me. *****ing about something like multiple tabs and phones to obtain free wifi. Talk about "1st world problem's" what's next? Gotta take my 24's off my car and go back to BS 20's!? Lol. Jk. I don't have rims

Tethering OK except with encryton
I have run Ineffabilis and Nils and am able to connect unencrypted wireless tether on both. Whenever I enable encryton, the wireless tethered network is seen but I never get a request for a password when attempting to connect and then get an internet connection error message on the guest ipad or laptop.

This is kinda what I'm talking about. Hit show details when the broadcast starts and fails. You'll see that it fails when configuring softtap. Adhoc works, but a lot of devices don't see it and can't encrypt. Kinda blows.... I hate switching Sims back to my Tbolt just to get wifi on my devices.

I am using "Wifi Tether for Root Users" 3.1 beta 10 and it works perfectly fine for tethering in most cases, as long as your other device can connect to ad-hoc networks. I did have to use the "generic" device profile and enable the "Routing Fix" option in settings to get the devices to connect properly though.

Actually, I can consistently connect with encryton off. If I enable access control, I can usually connect. If I enable encrypton, forget it.

Fantastic. I guess I should be more specific. *MY* devices don't see the broadcast. Rooted flyer on GB, roooted xoom on ICS and a ps3. My xoom DID see a broadcast when I was on a HC rom, but factory xooms on HC. Ever saw it...
Just wish it worked flawlessly like Tbolt. I've tried mss clamping, router fix etc... Maybe I'm wrong, but it Right be related to something pertaining to not having full S OFF. Idk...

Most android devices can't connect to ad-hoc by default. For the Xoom, you need to look for a wpa_supplicant file that is modified for ad-hoc devices. The same most likely applies to your Flyer. I have no idea about the PS3 though... but I would also doubt it has any default support for ad-hoc networks.
I am using the modified wpa_supplicant file from the Xoom forums on my Asus Transformer to get ad-hoc compatibility for tethering, and it works absolutely perfectly.

You can use a modified wpa _supplicant file on the Zoom to connect to ad hoc connections. I can probably track down the thread if youneed it.

I finally got the one I was having problems with six tonight, I did the WPA supplicant fix on my galaxy tab 7 inch.
The info was easy to find, just googled...
Galaxy tab 7 WPA_Supplicant
And read several threads. Just mind you find a modified file ina zip format you can use, and make a backup of yours before replacing.
Oh, and turn wifi off first, duh.

Any one having any luck tethering to a ps3? Anyone find a way to broadcast not in ad_hoc mode?
Im stuck out of town and have been trying various versions of wifi thether... all with no luck.
Im about ready to go to walmart and tether to laptop and had connect (internet share) to the ps3. But I would rather tether if possible.

Foxfi is good enough for systems where adhoc networks don't matter. The only way I have been succussful with tethering on the touch pad is with root and Wifi Tether app. Just Google it and side load it as it is not in the market. I hope that helps.
instead of using androids built in wifi settings to connect, I use "wifi analyzer". its free in google play, and allows you to see and do things that you can't using stock wifi connection settings. You can set different channels for a 5ghz as well as b/g/n 2.4ghz, as well as reconnect options etc etc. it's a nice way to see which channels are best to connect with.
Thanks,I will give that a try

just because a device is rooted does not mean it will automatically see an ad-hoc connection from another android device. ad-hoc/peer to peer connections from droid to droid are tricky and flakey alot of times or just wont work at all depending on the kernel. everyone usually thinks that tethering and hotspot are the same thing. they are not. there is a big difference between ad-hoc and infrastructure connections.
FWIW, I have zero issues tethering my TP using the stock tethering feature of my Galaxy Nexus.

+1. That was my point. Ad hoc is touch and go device to device. I had to try several combinations to get my Samsung E4GT to tether well with my TP. The OP may want to check the LG forums to see what is working with that phone.
Thanks!I'll look around.

While I don’t know much about the OPs ROM, I was simply trying to say he might want to try the built-in tethering—assuming it’s available—versus some third-party app.
I don't think stock Lucid has a built in tethering

So, I'm running OC5 OTA update, rooted of course, and have Hotspot working with the APN dun addition (not Galaxy Tools). Is there any way to keep Hotspot from turning itself off when I get a call while on a 3G network? Id like to keep it running until I choose to turn it off, regardless of the state of mobile data. See attached screenshot.
Thanks in advance!

This. Only lte and Wi-Fi does your connection remain on, on 3G it disconnects.

Maybe I'm being misunderstood. I know data and voice don't work at the same time on 3G. I want the Hotspot to remain on, even without a data connection so the clients that are connected don't lose their connection to each other. Yes, I realize that they cannot connect to the interwebs but I use the Wifi AP to stream Plex from one device to another and it's a pain to reconnect and start the stream over. My kids also use it to play games together on their iPads.
Sorry for the misunderstanding.

My understanding is that if the data connection is lost, then hotspot turns off by itself. I'm not sure if I've ever seen any way to change this.
One thing you could do is use tasker or automate it to setup rules to turn it back on when your phone call has ended.
Sent from my SM-N900P using XDA Free mobile app
I'll give that a try. I don't recall it being that way prior to LP or on my S4. Oh well, thanks for the suggestion!
