CM9 (OFFICIAL) Questions - AT&T Samsung Galaxy Note I717

I have a couple of questions about CM9. I'm running CM9 RC2 (7-19-2012). I was setting up my alarms and on the ICS stock clock app I was able to set actual music from my music folder as the alarm sound, however I didn't see any options for doing this in CM9. Is there a way to do this with the stock CM9 clock app, if not is there a way to get the stock ICS clock app, or do I need to download a 3rd party alarm app? My second question concerns email. I was using the ICS stock email app because I liked the unified inbox that it had. However I do not see anything like this in CM9. Am I missing it somewhere (if so where), if not can i get the stock ICS email app, or what 3rd party app do you recommend for having all my email in one place? Thanks in advance for any help/insight.

I would try pulling apk's from a pure ics rom and see what happens. Good chance it won't work though

XDA is no longer worth my time.

The tw (stock) apps won't work the clock app requires the my files app which requires the touch wiz overlay in the framework.
I use a 3rd party sms app, handcent, that on top of being an awesome sms app, can be launched to assign most other sounds from within other apps, and from there you can pick any audio file you have(see pics below)
I also use k9 email instead of the included app... I've used both handcent and k9 since before i even got my note.

When you set the alarm ringtone it should give you an option to use your file explorer to choose a ringtone. Go to your music folder and pick the song you want. As far as email, just go into the settings of the stock email app and add accounts.
Edit:Ahhh! Studa!

i don't get an explorer option froid, which explorer specifically are you referring?

I get this

Oh, i use root explorer and uninstall es... So that maybe perhaps be why i don't get that possibly.

Hmmmm. That is strange. Just figured it popped up no matter what file explorer you were using.

Default Manger

Hi
Found this very useful app. Default App manager.
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.appiator.defaultappmanager&feature=search_result
Thanks
This app seems to do the same thing the phone already does without having to install that app. Once you install an app that replaces a system app or another app the phone asks you which you want to have as default.
I really don't know the point of this app unless there's something else to it.

That would be true except when I want to set a different app as the default app. See the case below.
I've Go dialer as the default dialer which was set when I got the prompt the first time I tried to use a dialer after installing the Go dialer. So I picked Go dialer as the default . Now with Default manager I can switch back to the stock dialer as the defaul without uninstalling Go dialer. Not sure how I can easily do that without the help of an app like Default Manager. If there is an easy way to do it without an app like this I would love to know it.
Thanks!

Again, that can also be done with the system the phone already has. All you have to do is go to settings/applications find the third party dialer and clear default. Now when you go and use the dialer, it will ask you again which you want as default. Once you choose a default, done! You don't even have to delete the third party dialer.
You can keep repeating that process over and over without the need of this app.

I can't find the option to clear default in the settings/application/third party dialer screen. Please see the screen shots. 2nd one for the defualt app manager. What am I missing here? Using MIUI.
Thanks!

I see. That's what happen when you use an iphone look a like rom lol. Kidding.
On sense roms or asop roms, it gives you the option. I don't use a third party dialer but dowladed it just to show you.
See screenie below. It gives you the option to clear default.

[REQ] HTC Notes app and widget

For some reason the Rezound doesn't include the "Notes" app, which I've seen on other devices running Sense 3.5. I had this widget in a 3.5 ROM I was running on my DInc, but extracting it from that ROM and trying to install it won't work. Does the widget need to be modified to support the new screen resolution? Is there someone here who knows how to do that?
It might be a resolution issue.that or you forgot to pull a supporting file with it. If you have titanium backup try searching with the filter "note".

There are actually three apks involved.
HtcNotes.apk
HtcNotesProvider.apk
HtcRichNotesWidget3D.apk
The problem is that they fail to install normally by selecting them in a file manager.
I used Root Explorer to copy and paste them directly into the System/App folder. The notes app still did not show in the app drawer, and when I tried to add the widget to my home screen I just got a force close. I'm guessing that they need to be modified somehow to work, but I'm not a programmer so I'll leave that to someone else.
BTW I obtained the apks from the latest SVN for Prime 3D XL for the Droid Incredible. I'm wondering if there is a version from a different phone ROM that will work.
Any devs have plans to get this app working on the Rezound?
I just use SpringPad. Or try pulling the thunderbolt version?

Those APKs will contain images for a 800x480 screen and the widgets will look strangely small on our 1280x720 screens, even if you get them to work! HTC tends to use actual-size PNGs for everything (and not 'stretch' big ones small or small ones big, like some apps/widgets do).
The Notes widget on its own is just one which scrolls through 10 pages of yellow notepad, which you can either write on or scribble on on one of your home screens. Even on the HTC Eris, when you hit 'Get More Widgets...' or whatever it was, you could get Notes. I don't know if this is the one you're referring to or not!
The HTC Evernote Widget is a little different. Someone was investigating that, but even so there surely wasn't a 1280x720 version of it, I'm sure. We'll see what happens. That one is unique in that it integrates with Evernote kind of like Friendstream integrates to Facebook!

Seeing texts on lock screen

Is there an app or mod that let's u see a text message on lock screen?
Sent from my SGH-I777 using XDA
You could try using Go Locker or Widget Locker, or a similar lockscreen replacement. That's probably your best option.
Other than that, I don't believe you can... You can get it to show up in the notification bar, but it won't stay up; you'll have to read it right when you got it. When it finishes scrolling through the message, it'll go away.
Handcent has a popup that might work for you. Not a lockscreen though.

MiLocker has a few I like.

I wanted to try GoLocker but I think it requires GoLauncher and I rather not have that and use Apex.

I'm pretty certain you can install and use GoLocker without GoLauncher. It should let you select the launcher you want it to go to, just like the other lockscreen replacement apps.
Yea I know you can choose APEX but having GoLauncher installed in the background just bothers me.

Well how about that. Yeah you're right, that is very annoying...especially since GoLauncher is going to be using resources in the background...
Try widgetlocker + pure messenger widget.
SmsPopup is excellent, been using for a while now and really like it, you don't need to replace your messaging app, it just handles the notifications with a nice pop up and quick-reply feature. And its free, no ads.
My SMS app (free) has a setting to allow a text to show on the lockscreen
SMS Popup is the closest thing you can get if u don't want the extra packaging(IE: Handcent) although just remember it might drain your battery if youre conservative although you won't see much of a difference just make sure to turn off notifications on the SMS on the OS to avoid any conflict because the app has its own notification

I've been using Nova Launcher with Widget Locker and TeslaUnread (ADW Notifier works too). Basically, when I get a notification, I get a tiny icon my lockscreen button that I have to slide and I just slide it to my messaging app shortcut (which has the notification) and voila. It's not the same but it's similar and gets the job done. I have it going for K9 mail too.

+1, or any other SMS widget (e.g.). Search for "SMS Widget" on the market.
go sms will allow it as well. and you can customize the entire appearance settings as you can in handcent but with the pop ups included. and you dont have to download any of the other go services to be able to use it. if you dont like the look or use of gosms try handcent instead. i used it for a long time with hardly any issues

SGS3 problem with Go SMS Pro and icon unread notifications

hello guys, yesterday i bought my sgs3 after i sold my iphone 4 (at last)
and after some search in my first touch with android, i came up to this problem...
my phone had on it 4.0.4 ICS, so i rooted it in first place, then installed addfree, addaway and a couple of games, after that i wanted a better sms program, so i tested handset and go sms pto, go sms pro proved to be better for my taste...and this is the part where the problem comes in...
i did all its settings correctly, about notifications etc, and no matter what i do, when i have 1 or more sms unreaded in my inbox, go sms pro icon dont show a thing on it, only go sms pro widget shows "1" unreded on its icon, and stock sms app, but not the go sms app icon that i have on dock...
does anyone know whats that problem? did i do anything thats causing it? is it a bug that with an update will be fixed on the 4.0.4 ICS?
i also tried go launcher ex with go launcher ex notifications, neither that did work (and i didnt like its outfit too)
please HELP!!!!!!!!!
Did you chose go sms pro as default sms application?
im not sure about that, where do i make it default sms app?

Go SMS pro icon notification fix
Not sure if this will work but remove the go sms app from the dock and drag the widget there instead. I had the same problem too and am going to see if this works.

Different notification sounds for different apps?

I'd like to be able to assign different notification alert sounds for different apps. For instance... NY Times alerts would have "sound A" while Twitter alerts have "sound B" and Slickdeal alerts would have "sound C". I know that I can assign different notification sounds for each contact... I want to be able to do the same for different apps. Is there any way to do this? Thanks.

Some apps give you that ability. For instance, Hangouts texting app lets you specify what notification sound you wish to hear. Also, my email app lets me choose the notification sound. Check the settings in all those apps.
But without root -- unless the various apps have that in their app settings -- there's no way that I know of. Some ROMs let you do that and I believe some xposed modules let you do that -- but that requires root.

Nine is the name of my corporate email app.
Here's the notification options that app has. See screenshot below. Other apps sometimes allow this also, while most force you to use the "system" notification you've chosen.
This app even lets you choose the OUTGOING send sound. (Not shown in this screenshot, it's on another page.)

The LED light enabled is just a carryover from previous phone. It doesn't actually do anything on the LG V30. However, you can save your desired app settings and export them to use on other devices.

Microsoft's Outlook app allows you to set a notification sound for it and per e-mail address, if wanted. I have 3 e-mail accounts imported to the app, all of which are set to chime differently. The same applies to calendar notifications for each e-mail address as well.
