What kernel to use? - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Probably get this a lot, but I'm having trouble deciding what kernel to use.
Reason I want to change is that the current kernel 'litepro 3.2' uses 20.8% of my battery, isn't this quite high? If it is normal then I won't try another.
I am running liteningrom 3.6 atm.
I did search but couldn't find another thread regarding this.
Here's a list of latest kernels I've found

Try a bunch of kernels out till you find one that works well for you. Easy to do with CWM given how quick it is to flash/backup/restore. You won't have exactly the same experience with a given kernel as someone else due to different phone setup, different usage patterns & so on.

No one can tell you which kernel to use. Preference for ROM/kernel/theme/whatever is a subjective thing. Try out a kernel. If you like it, keep using it. If you don't, or if you are having issues with it, change to another one. A kernel that works well for me or someone else may not work well for you.

[Q] New owner, what is the best ROM available?

Which ROM out there has the best support and the least flaws? I know none will be perfect but I would like a ROM that is fast, stable, and has optimal battery life. I know i could use the V6 Supercharger to make a ROM faster but I would like to know what ROM you guys recommend? Thanks
For the 10 billionth time: It's really up to you to figure this out. Considering that there's only 4 custom ROMs available (for the 7510), I think you are capable of doing the research yourself.

Which version are you using ?
"In Paris V5"IS LIVE! (KME) Wifi ONLY!
I´m rly happy with this one.
What the best stock Rom so far regarding smoothness and speed ?
Sorry for hijacking ur thread

I'm going to second the in paris v5, I just rooted and flashed and couldn't be happier. There is one clich that I found and that is on some web pages in browser it will not let you go back with the back arrows, small problem but so far the only one I see.
Task650 makes the best ROM.

check out the dev. forums, do a little research. If your asking you shouldn't be flashing roms really. All v6 supercharger does in most cases is mess things up
So avoid flashing supercharger? It doesn't take a computer genius to flash a ROM, I just don't have the time to flash every ROM and mess with it, thanks for the positive responses though.

I have yet to see any real proof that the supercharger script actually makes this thing better. I have flashed and run all of the different ROMs, and its really up to you as far as look and feel are concerned.
As far as support goes, I will say that Task and Phantom has been great in keeping us bug free, but I have not interacted with the other devs as much, and so I won't knock their Roms because I can't say what their level of support is.
Happy Flashing
Overcome is good too
I will say that I like both in Paris and Overcome. In Paris has a custom theme which I'm not fond of but you can install the touchwiz theme over it if you prefer. I like Overcome because it is the stock honeycomb theme.
It's really a rather personal choice so you do have to try more than one to decide.

[Q] How often do you Flash?

Would like to make this a poll if possible...
Just curious how long do you all like to keep the Rom's on your phone for...
Do you...
[] Find something and see what sticks and wait till the next update?
[] Flash the newest thing that available?
[] Flash the one with the most replies in a thread?
[] Google and cross reference the info here with Google and then pick one and stay with it
[] Not care and do your flashes an a whim?
[] Run stock and just come here to see whats out and convince yourself to root?
I try to flash the newest thing available and mess with it before returning to what's tried and true like ShoStock.
*If any mod see's this please be kind and turn it into a poll. Thanks*
with the captivate, I found myself flashing something every couple days because it was very slow and unreliable. With this phone, its so fast and reliable that I generally stick with what I have until the next update. But occasionally, I'll get the itch to flash something different so that happens once in a while, too.
I've tried all the ROMS to see which one I like best. Once I find the one that works for me that becomes my default as a nandroid backup.
If a new ROM comes out and it's stable then i try it and see how good it is. Same with Kernels
See my current config on my sig below
[X] Flash the one with the most replies in a thread?
That's what I did the first time.
Just sticking it out now and waiting for something different, I really just want a theme selection that's what I get bored of.

I miss that like crazy, but iOS is one version while we have thousands of roms and phones.
There is some universal themes in the i9100 section, it was posted somewhere here but not everything worked correctly.
Still running manually debloated Hellraised VillainROM 3. I usually only flash other stuff to confirm/reproduce bugs with said other stuff.
I, of course, am flashing kernels all the time, most of which never go beyond my phone. Less often lately as I try to come up with test cases for the regression I'm hunting.

That's not a bad idea ;-)
I'm a flashaholic, so i needed something to satisfy my addiction if i didn't feel like diving into all the i9100 stuff all the time. i think i have unnamed, sensation and miui (which I'm currently rocking) in nandroids

I did some research, flashed two ported i9100 (ICScrewed and ICSD out) decided I didn't like ported roms, then did research and flashed Unnamed, and that's where I am now.
I used to be a flashing addict, but I've recovered. I want my device to Just ****ing Work™. Downtime=bad.
I think I flash way to much I have 3 sd cards.one for hellrasie Tom's one for cm7/miui based and another for i777 roms.I normally try each update of a rom and I always make backups.I do agree with you guys it would be nice to have like a winterboard or like cydia for android.

I used to flash a lot. I finally figured most stock roms are more or less the same. I keep them in nandroid the ones I like.
I like the looks of miui but its a battery hog; however I come back to it every now and then.
I'm impatiently waiting for the ICS.

I typically find something that works the best and stick with it. And anytime it's updated, check out what's added, then manually implement what I want from it. I also keep an eye on other roms' updates and implement some of those features as well.
i too have flashed almost every rom avail. and every single one thats gingerbread based is freakin too alike. a few theme changes here and there but still seems like all the same ****. so i stopped flashing. cm7 was good for awhile until i found miui. love the looks and different themes are endless. phone flies as well. been rockin miui for months and its rock solid. now if cm9/ics would show up... feeling the itch coming on to flash.

I try to flash something new at least once a week but I always go back to SHOstock. Its definitely my favorite so far. I usually read a little about the from and if it sounds decent ill flash it and I don't like it I just restore from my nandroid backup and all is well.

It's international so you'll have to hellraise it. Works so good. Seems to be on par with Villian for battery life, and that's saying alot.
As to flashing, I usually change roms once every 2 to 3 weeks. It takes a notable feature to get me to jump. Seems about every 2 to 3 weeks that happens

Stock SGS2 Sammy builds are always buttery smooth.
just letting people know that the newest GB is the smoothest. I have it done, hellraised, added 14 toggle, bln, newest DD, removed some bloat. I will try and upload a almost stock version in development soon.

That thread says CWM, and the instructions say install from recovery.
I'm bored, I'll give this a shot.
Reading the thread, it seems like you can flash it via CWM and then apply Hellraiser afterwards.
In my opinion, that release is too new to properly pass judgement on it. It can often take a few weeks before bugs in a firmware build become clearly evident.
Look at what happened with UCKK6 - two ROM developers rebased on it, even though after a few more weeks it became clear it is one of the worst bases that one could possibly pick. This fact wasn't clear when they made their decision because it was too new.
That said: So far, XWKL1 seems pretty solid.
I think the op was referring to this particular ROM...http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1483131

uploading in development. will work on it more when I figure out my usb issues with my ebay laptop ?
ALMOST STOCK XWAL4
odexed (faster in my opinion)
lidroid quickpanel 14 toggle
newest dailydriver from Entropy 2.7
bln app and files
faster gps
removed buddies and sns files
removed memo and maps
old market app to install old version of market for fc issues
superuser/root
XWLA4
should be ready in a few minutes as long as upload doesn't break
This is early, but this release might suffer from the infamous AOS bug in regards to wifi aswell. Did a test by resetting my CPU Spy and checking in on it at 20 mins and the phone is only entering deep sleep 89% of the time. Also behind display, "Android OS" has the second highest battery consumption.
So what exactly is so much smoother about it?

[Q] Siyah vs entrophy

If im running CM7, am i better off using siyah or entrophy's kernel? I've read siyah recommends entrophy.
I mainly want to OC to 1.6. Possibly Undervolt.
Whats the difference between the two?
There are tons of threads on both kernels. Go do some homework.

neither specifically talk about what im asking. AND siyah recommends entrophy, but i know many still use entrophy. So really, im asking why he recommends it over his kernel that seems so popular.
Both kernels are good. They just have different ideas in mind about what they want from the kernel. I believe Siyah is geared more towards performance where Entropy is a good mixture of both. If you're looking for a fast kernel with amazing battery life, Entopy's DD is what you're looking for. Both are CWM compatible so it's literally a 2min swap. Easy enough to try them both to see which works better for you.
Try Sitropy, it's very good.
As the philosophy of this room, "this" is good for me, doesn't necessarily mean it's good for you and vice versa.
So, the recommendation is always "try them all" and select the best, and it is your best, not others' best.
Whats an Entrophy?
There are no Vs. threads. They re both good and they both work... however, they dont work ALL THE SAME for everyone, so you have to try them out to see which one works best for you.
Thread closed.

Battery life results

I apologize for I know that similar threads have been created but the last one is fairly old. I have mostly been running AOKP for the last few weeks but I recently tried out serendipity- I'll say that I do prefer an AOSP style rom over a samsung rom. I do like customization but battery life is a priority to me. Can someone please give some input to what rom/kernal/governors are being used to maximize battery life?
There is no simple answer to this question. All Kernels and ROMs are good - please refer to Entropy's battery drain thread for common issues affecting battery drain.
Some kernels however offer UV ability e.g. Siyah which allows u more flexibility.
Having said this I saw about the same battery life on most of the ICS roms I tried.
I am currently evaluating custom GB roms to see if the battery life is better.

we've trained most not to say crap like that. its all dependent on user, apps, and device.
just play with them, find one that works best for you and your setup.
