Pictures sideways in mms - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

I'm using Go SMS in place of the stock messages app to get away from the slideshow issue, but when I send a picture that was taken in portrait mode, it rotates it to landscape automatically. Within Go SMS, you can rotate before sending, but is there a way to force it to respect the original orientation the photo was taken in?

I have the same issue with Go SMS. Like u said, u can rotate it before, but idk why it changes to landscape automatically.

Look in the picture threads half the images in there are rotated 90° its odd for sure.

Thanks for the responses, guys. It's nice to know I'm not the only one experiencing this issue. Hopefully, a dev will eventually bake a fix into one of their roms.

Tell Go SMS. It's app related, not ROM related. Unless you're also coming across the same issue in the Stock messaging app...

It is rom related, some pictures I take show up sideways and then a lot of the pics added to the picture thread in the stickies in general a bunch are rotated in there as well.

I hate the mms on this phone. Why did it go backwards. You cant zoom it and it plays like a movie. Sucks big time. Im wondeing if I can roll back to another version of android to correct this?

Or is there any roms that have this corrected?

FFC weird?

Um, is it natural for the FFC that I installed into my phone to reverse things from their place? (I am sure this is not natural.) Like for example, if something is on the left side of the screen, when the picture is taken and I took a look at it using gallery, it ends up on the right side. Any fixes to this?

FFC Issues...
Normal? lol lets just say its a Vibrant...then moan and say its a Samsung...
Sounds like you have the same camera I installed... sold as a rev2...
Couple things to help you..
1] Pictures taken with the FFC ... when your in gallery hit the menu button and "rotate left" will fix and save the picture in the proper direction wanted.
2] Grab Mirror app from the market it has in the options the ability to rotate image properly and stay that way....usefull to show off your new FFC
Im using the Slim ICS v3.6 rom right now.. it comes with FFC built in..[no it wont rotate image at this time...]
Hope that helps!
Hit the button
p.s. look for my cwm flash file to add FFC to other ICS/cm9 roms [use search]
Good Luck!
Resurrecting the question
Alright, I flashed my phone to Slim ICS 3.6, but it still does the same thing. Like if my face is on the right side of the screen, when I take the picture and go to Gallery, my face is magically on the left side. When I try to use rotate left, it still ends up the same thing. Is it only happening to me or does anyone else experience this? And is there a fix to this?

[Q] Homescreen in Landscape mode?

I dont know what happened but my Galaxy S3 can tilt from Portrait to landscape while in Homescreen this morning.
But now when I tried it again it does not do it anymore, I did not restart the phone or anything. I'm on stock TW and not rooted.
Am I missing something here why I cant do it anymore? Take note that currently the screen rotation is still turned on.
I had the same issue on samsung tab and have been said by the samsung tech team to recalibrate the tab , tried it and got it resloved.
got the issue again after tried the stap again no luck, tech guys said I need to do a factory rest and that fixed the issue.
Hi mate, currently in my case my homescreen is still in portrait mode . But I'm just wondering why can i adjust it a while ago to landscape mode while I'm in home screen but now I cant.
The only difference is I'm connected to my wifi router a while ago and now I'm not connected to it.
Take note that I did not use any MHL adapter (I read somewhere else that using MHL will enable that functionality).
Hmm. maybe a bug. But that was cool

When you say the 'issue' is the issue that it was rotating or that it wasn't? Is the homescreen supposed to rotate? I'm trying to decide if I should get a GS3 or a GNex today and I'm not familiar with how touch wiz normally operates.
What do you mean by Homescreen? The screen you get when you have unlocked the phone? If so then mine has never tilted into landscape mode and is always in Portrait, is this not suppose to be the case?
@Claytop
Yes mate. But right now it's not going to landscape anymore. Don't know why. I guess its a bug. hmmm

sorry for my ignorance, I never saw the default homescreen rotate in landscape mode. but in the tab both default homescreen and application homescreen rotate.
can other users confirm if the default homescreen tilt/rotate in landscape mode??
I am going ok with the touchwiz if you need a faster response probably you need to root and put in some good rom.

I believe that's the normal operation in the homescreen because no one replied experiencing same scenario I mentioned
Iv installed a sikipedia widget and when i click it the home screen goes to landscape mode...
would very much like to have this as a standard.
It's better to factory reset the device. If u still face the issue, try going with roms. It may get better.

Auto Rotation problem

Hello guys. My new S2 has a problem. When i activate Auto rotation it only works in landscape mode, but when i try to put it in portrait it doesn't work, no matter what position i rotate my phone in. I think the problem is the accelerometer sensor. How can i fix it?

The first thing for me to try is always a factory reset, wipe cache, dalvik and do full reset. 9 times out of ten this has fixed issues for me.
If it doesn't work then you can go into test mode on your phone and test the accelerometer. Open dial pad and dial *#0*#
That'll give you some idea if it's the accelerometer

You both have to provide your ROM details.
Anyways, if you guys are running CM9, CM10 or any AOKP based Roms, then the instructions below should solve your problems:
1. Goto settings - Display
2. Under ROTATION, enable every option you find there.
All should be well if you the simple instructions.
If you have any more questions, do let me know

I'm on AOKP JB 4.2.2 MR1- Build 5 with my GT-i9100. When I try auto rotate after a reboot it works. 10 minutes later it won't work anymore but after some time it might work again and after that it's stuck in one position again. Calibrating my device doesn't help and I can't find anything else in settings that could help. Thanks in advance.
Bump, sorry if this is annoying but I want to respond in main AOKP channel, can't do it as I'm a ''junior'' member. I just need my answer

I have the same problem! Have officially 4.1.2. Any suggestion i will appreciate because it is so annoying and making me desperate.
Just to mention, in Camera mode, it is flipping normally from Landscape to Portrait and contrary.
my camera can`t stop rotating even with rotation and motion turned off.. i snap a picture holding the phone straight(portrait) and the pictures come randomly...one is upside down , the other is sideways. And i have the same problem with different roms? now i`m with alliance rom 7.3 and before that i was with chamelion rom

An easy fix for me on rotation issue
Hey i had the same issue as well, and i followed some of the other instructions in trying to wipe my cache and factory reset to fix the isse, nothing happened my sensors were still off when i tested it and i could put it to landscape, but i could not get it back to portrait. and i also tried some other suggestions as well. Finally i decided i was going to live with it until i found this app call (auto rotate widget) by jason hull, i would post a link but i just registered.
Some how this app fixed my phone and all i did was install it, i never touched any of the settings and now my sensors are back to normal and the phone is rotating perfect now.

Stock messaging auto font change.

can we get this to stop? it changes to so small, then to extra big and i don't pinch to zoom unless it gets too small by itself
Its a bug in the app I get the same thing from time to time, Also I have "Message Preview" set to 1 line and it always defaults back to 2 lines. Hope it gets fixed soon.

I've noticed that if you set your font by pinch to zoom it doesn't mess up as often. At least that's the case for me.

Did anyone ever find a solution for this? The 1.22.651.3 update resolved a lot of the problems I was having with font sizes, but in landscape mode (only) the text in the "Add text" box still gets obscenely small after I click on it, every time. I'm now on 2.13.651.1 and it's still doing the same thing.
Rooted stock ROM, latest firmware and stock kernel, S-OFF, etc. etc.

Camera flash does not come on when selecting flash on.

Does anyone else have this issue?
I know you can select the Flash as Auto / ON / or OFF... when I select Flash ON and tap the screen to focus on an area, I would normally suspect to flash to light up so I can focus on an area. However it does not come on at all. But will come on to take the picture, but the picture will be blurry because it cannot focus on the spot I want.
Love the phone overall, bought it through Samsung. Just waiting for a good root to come along the way.

I noticed the same but if I are the picture, the flash turns on and the autofocus is working and after the folks is right the photo is taken.
But as you said no flash when using tap to focus. That was there on the S8.
Could this be a bug in the OS? Haven't tried contacting Samsung yet to report this, but wanted to make sure if others are having the same issue too.

Yes it should be. Or Samsung made this.
Please report it to them.
Same here. Flash does not come on when you tap the screen on auto flash.
Spoke with a customer expert and even tried the phone in safe mode as he suggested. He stated that if it existed in safe mode, it is a software issue. And yes the issue stays within safe mode, his only suggestion was to take it to a Samsung Repair center. In my case, I will just wait for a hotfix or patch. Unless xda beats samsung to it first haha.
Got a reply again from Samsung care page, apparently the features were removed on the s9. I guess they are now wanting to reimplement it since most are complaining on it.
Found out if you want the flash to come on before taking a picture, just tap the shutter button for 1 second and then slide your finger off it and the flash will go off without taking a picture.

But that activates burst shot. And if sliding it, it would create a floating button. Unless I'm missing the ''shutter'' button you are talking about.
