MIUI v4 Camera - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys,
Asked the same question on two CM9 based MIUI threads in the development section but havent got any answers or ideas, so maybe someone here can help
MIUI v4 for the SGS2 has the stock Sammy based camera app and/or styling/theme. A while back MIUI announced the new look of the camera app. Im still trying to understand what happened to the idea, and why it is not included in any SGS2 builds. Is it not compatible? Does it not exist?
Just wondering as MIUI v4 Sammy based and CM9/AOSP based dont seem very polished in terms of aesthetics and colour coordination. It is great, and fast, but doesnt look that great.
Anyone able to shed some light on this? Any help would be greatly appreciated! :fingers-crossed:

[Q] so many to choose from

im vey new to the whole rom scene for the samsung fascinate, but i had a success! i had recently put cm7 nightlies on my fassy, but i have some questions now. i'm not totally sure about the difference between miui, cm7, and omfgb. are they all the same? whats the diference. i'm looking all over, and i dont see diferences or reviews between them, just "how-to" guides of flashing the rom or unbricking. sorry for the noob question, but im trying to learn!
Please, questions go in the Questions and Answers and section. Anyways.....
CM7 and OMFGB, are AOSP roms composed of collaborations of mods and such. Each are pretty similar and have their own pros and cons.
MIUI on the other hand is a AOSP-based rom made by a Chinese Team that focuses on developing a better UI and Android experience. The UI, the apps, everything is revamped for a better experience.

Questions about ICS roms

Hi, I'm a bit new to the flashing roms and rooting scene for android so I was wondering if someone can answer a few questions for me.
What is the difference between the ICS Passion rom and the CM9 Nightly build? And what does it mean by nightly does that just mean its not stable?
I'm running on eclair for my vibrant and its just sluggish and not attractive. I'm just interested in running something smooth and has a stock ICS interface. I don't really need certain features like face unlock, gps, so these aren't much of a concern for me. So what would you guys recommend for me to use? One thing to note is that I'm not too keen on heavy customizing, I just like something simple, not complicated, minimalistic/clean.
Also I play on taking this phone to a different country, namely Korea. Would I be able to use a sim card from a Korean carrier and use the phone that's running a custom ICS rom?
Once I root my phone, is that the same thing as unlocking? How do I unlock my phone?
Sorry if some of these are repeat questions, the amount of information in this forum overwhelms me and I couldn't really find any clear answers.
Thank you!
Ok . Here we go..
Passion is based on cm9 with some added tweaks. Cm9 nightlies are auto generated builds synced and built every night.(hence the name nightlies) they are usually fairly stable but their purpose is to find a stable version. (Cm7 took like 150 night ies before stable, cm is very thorough)
I like cm9 over passion, more clean but overall I like aokp
Depends on the bands of Korea carrier for 3g but you should be able to get voice SMS for sure.
Rooting is not unlocking. T-Mobile doesn't really care about a 2 year old phone so they usually give unlock code otherwise there are unlocking tools out there

Just "completing" the upper post, you can find unlocking softwares for Samsung Vibrant at Google Market (Google Play)...
About the stable/simple/stock ROM... is a matter of preference...
I really like Passion ROM...
Wow thank you guys for the detailed information. Really appreciate it
Can someone also tell me what the difference between the CM9 nightlies and passion is? I've had some experience with CM7 gingerbread and I really liked their work.
Also I read that the passion is also not completely smooth while the CM9 runs very smooth. For someone like me who doesn't have much experience with flashing, should I just install the passion?
My advice is to try them both and see for yourself. Test each one for a couple of days to get the feel for both of them. This way you can decide for yourself which one is stable. I would also suggest trying ICZen which I have been using for over a month now.

Which MIUI do you like Best??

So there are tons of different variations of MIUI nowadays and I just wanted to get a take on what everyone's favorite is, cus I myself have tried out many, and just thought it might be useful to have others feedbacks on certain versions and what not. Specifically I am interested in those who have SPEEDY builds of MIUI; referencing builds like AdyScorpius' build, or Dragon's MIUI SP, or RGUI, MIUI Scotland, things like that; ones with hardware acceleration. I've tried out all of the above including the normal builds, and the ICS of the ones above offered, and was wondering what everyone's favorite was. I'm talking about GINGERBREAD BUILDS, for Speed and Stability, since that is what I'd be using, but if you have ICS build and are commenting on that please go ahead too, just mention ICS. Specifically when commenting put which rom, the build, and what you like about it, or don't like about others. I have my own opinions about each of those but would like some extra feedback, thanks a lot. I'll give an example below:
Currently using MIUI SP (GB), it's got basically everything I'm looking for, has the ICS framework of MIUI, Stock SG2 Camera, as well as MIUI themes. Used Galnet but it wasn't quite as stable, had some mix ups with connection dropping right before a call, and lockscreen was inconsistent. RGUI is sweet, cept Bluetooth doesn't work. AdyScorpius is probably the fastest rom I've ever run but the market FC's every time...
Your turn
Using gb wiui! I've never tried MIUI before but it's amazing!

Asnet is the best for me.
Call quality was very poor with miui I found, How do you guys find it?

Official MIUI v4 is nice also ASNET MIVI is also nice .!
We don't allow these threads, there is no 'best' ROM. Please just try them yourself.
Thanks

[Q] What is the difference?

Ok, so ive been jumpin around, thinking, making a brain plan, but nothing seems to captivate me.
Does anybody now, the inherited difference between ExMIUI and the MIUI roms posted in the development section? i mean, like, real to the atom separations of the roms, it would be nice to know, bugs, pros, cons and maybe some other miscellaneous items.
And while we are at it, Real ICS and Real ICS lite?
This might help users decide better which rom to choose, and hey, clear some dark clouds from the horizon...
Thanks in advance, MUMAXE

[Q] [q] possible miui v5 port? other theme roms?

I recently learned how to add custom roms to my lgog. So far i havent run into problems. I still feel like i am "winging" a lot of the time but still never bricked my phone. Its hard for me to get the hang of all the terms and acronyms. I have tried a few different roms (slickrom, snowjb, cm10.1, vanilla rootbox, ChaOS) and im trying to find something stable that suits my needs. With that said...
I just wondering if there is going to be a miui v5 port soon or ever? i am currently using ChaOS but it dosent seem to run as smooth as i expected, coming from cm10.1. i am also running into theming problems (ex. .mtz, .ctz files). i get overwhelmed easily when it comes to scripts and coding etc.
As you can tell i am i n00b, maybe someone can point me in the right direction for user friendly roms that favor theming like chameleon.
many thanks.
sorry if i posted in the wrong section
