Can it be done?
When I connect via aux cable with my car nothing happens when I press previous/next on the car radio.
Thanks
Probably bc the standard 3.5mm headphone jack is only for transmitting audio, not to control anything.
This should be possible if you have a radio with USB input for flash drives or ipods but not over an aux cable. Perhaps you could try to find an aux cable with the track forward/reverse built in to the cable? I know I've seen headphones with it but not sure about the cable alone..

I had an aux in fitted in my car and was told the next/previous would work. When it didnt they said it would only work on a ipod. Interesting comment about the cable - anyone able to confirm whether the headphones lead is different?
To be honest, with the swipe action on the music player, this doesnt really bother me as its easy to do this whilst driving. However, I'd like to switch to another music app given the random function doesnt work properly....
I definitely know where youre coming from, I've always used an ipod for music, but want to use my mt4g now (or try to).
I messed around today and here's what I've came up with:
with the aux cable (standard 3.5mm headphone cable) you only have control of the tracks on the device, not with the radio's controls. you might be able to find cable with seek buttons built in (like some headphones) to make it easier but I've never actually seen one.
If your radio has a usb input on it you can connect your phone via usb, mount the sd card (as if using mass storage on a comp) and your radio should detect and read it as a flash drive. going this route your phone will charge, but you'll ONLY be able to control tracks from the radio head unit and you wont be able to listen to Slacker Radio or Pandora or other similar apps via usb. another plus is that the processing is done by the headunit, thus you could use your headunits random function.
The last option (that I think is king) is if you have a bluetooth enabled headunit, the HD2 can stream audio over bluetooth (a2dp) to your radio. You could then pair and stream music, Slacker, Pandora, etc and maintain control on the device (I would prefer control on device and radio, but i dont see this happening) wirelessly. One huge plus to me is that you can charge it while keeping fully functionality with only one cable.
I cant find a cable with anything other than volume controls, but I wonder if either of these options would help

I've been using a BT Venturi Mini for about a year now and it works perfect. You can change streamed track/ stop start and it has no wires. So no mess, best investment ever. Plus, you can pick up calls/ voicemail via car stereo too.
Sound quality excellent, especially when you increase BT pool bitrate via HD2 tweak.
Perhaps if someone modded the headphones that come with the HD2 so that they go from 3.5 to 3.5 with the controls in the middle of the wire to use ?
So I got the Thunderbolt on release day and the first thing I tried when leaving the store was syncing to my 2011 VW Tiguan. It did sync fine with the phone (handsfree) and phonebook. I was using it without issue until I decided the other day to try streaming media to the radio. Both devices showed that the mediastreaming was paired as well as the headset.
Long story short... it didnt work. No audio was streamed thru the connection. OK so fine. Except now when I connect the phone to the car it first connects the headset and the media streaming profiles and then disconnects the headset. It will not reconnect at all now. (Actually it says that it is paired but disconnected)
I deleted everything and tried to re-pair it to no effect. I changed the phones name as well. I have tried a battery pull from the phone but it will no longer connect the headset profile to the car or download the phonebook.
**UPDATE**
I was able to pair it and use my jawbone headset. Would still like to get the speaker phone working.
Any thoughts? Im in the car for many hours per day and this is going to make me crazy.
Im not looking for a portable speaker accessory what i want to do is find a way to use my g2x smartphone as a portable speaker, say if i have a friends ipod and he doesnt have headphones, iw ant a way to use an aux cable and play his music through my phones speakers. is there any way to do this or an app?
In order for you to be able to do such a task you need to have a "Line In" port on your device. What you can do is stream music from iPod Touch through WiFi to your phone.
OR
If phone supports USB host function you can connect USB Sound Card and use Line In on it.
It is kind of weird thing I am trying to do but I am sure it is not impossible. Just looking for ways if anybody has already tried before might save my time and afforts.
At work I've PC with internet but without bluetooth, and a Galaxy S3 without data plan! I want to play music (online music streaming sites) on my PC, have that music (from audio out jack on PC) to Galaxy S3 (hope it will go to mic in if I use male to male aux cable?) and then an App that sends that incoming music stream to bluetooth audio output of GS3 and then listen to it on my sony stereo bluetooth headset!
Sounds odd right? The thing is I can not buy & plug in bluetooth dongle to my work PC and I can not afford the data plan as of now.
So looking forward to all ideas!
Thanks.
My truck has an iPod cable hidden in the center console but I've not used it since my iPhone 3GS. I'm wondering if a device exist that I could plug into that cable to accept incoming Bluetooth audio from my Nexus.
I want something to act like an iPhone (but work) to stream music via Bluetooth from my Nexus 5 but the stereo receiver sees it as an iPod/iPhone.
Bluetooth options that plug into the front AUX port and have to be charged are not what I am looking for. Too messing.
