I'm using cm9 and after partitioning sdcard I've used sdext2 and linked everything to sdcards ext. I'm just not sure if I have used it right...is there a correct way of using the app with ICS roms without the use of a2sd scripts like darktremors or ungaze

the correct use is:
-wipe everything.
-install rom zip.
-install gapps (if needed)
-boot phone
-install link2sd
-run link2sd and create script (u will asked for)
-reboot phone
-run link2sd, go to settings and check link automatically.
from now on every app u install will be linked automatically

Another Link2SD user here.
I use Titanium Backup to backup apps before flashing new ROM.
If the new ROM is just an update (example Andy's first Phoenix to latest update), I wiped data, cache, dalvik cache but didn't reformat the sdcard before flashing ROM. If it's a different ROM or you want to change the partition type/size then reformat.
Flash ROM. Reboot.
Then flash gapps, install Link2SD, run it and follow the instruction to recreate mount script. Reboot.
Install Titanium Backup & restore apps.
I don't remember if the apps are automatically linked, but if they aren't, you only need to use multiselect to batch link them in Link2SD

Why would I need to format the SD card before flashing a new ROM? You mean format the second partition right? Not the first one.

Well, reboot in recovery -> advanced -> partition (NOTE: EVERYTHING WILL BE ERASED!!! BACKUP IF NEEDED)
Then boot again, go to Link2SD, select ext4 and reboot.
If you can't link then, try menu -> recreate mount script -> ext3
Press thanks!
I know with a2sdgui, it asks for an a2sd script before it's working, I've never used link2sd before, to OP I followed what the guy above me said than downloaded darktremors a2sd zip script than flashed it than used a2sdgui to move apps to sd-ext, zipaligned and moved and rebuilt dalvik cache and it's been working flawlessly for me, but to respect what above user mentioned, whatever works best for you... There's ungaze and darktremor a2sd script on these forums, do the search on goggles for em

I dun prefer using as2d scripts as they also move gapps to sd,, link2sd worked best for me on stock ROM..

Install any app2sd script, then move all dalvik cache and data to sd card.

Either u flash cm7 or use link2sd ...both require root ...they will save your internal storage like anything ...and s2e is pretty gud too but link2sd is better ...

HOW TO INSTALL:
1-Delete all scripts for app2sd like link2sd script,amallurz,...

How did you partition your SD card? What program did you use, what type of partition is it, and how is it formatted?

I have used clockwork mod recovery 5.0.2.7 I guess I have partitioned my sdcard i.e. 512mb ext

I believe CWM defaults to ext4. If you didn't make any other partitions, then your SD card partition structure should be as follows now:
/mnt/sdcard, FAT, primary
/sdext, ext4, primary
Try using link2sd's menu to recreate mount scripts, & choose ext4. Also, make sure you're still rooted properly, and still have expected su access.

I recollect facing the same problem.I guess the problem isn't with link2sd its got to to do with the fact that the stock kernel doesn't support ext partition try flashing a custom kernel that supports ext partition.

Ah, good catch! I didn't notice that.
If you don't want to flash a new ROM, you can format the 2nd partition as FAT, and link2sd has the option to mount that the same way as others.

I don't understand. Do you want to keep stock, or flash a custom ROM? If all you want is to use link2sd, you shouldn't need to flash anything.

Backup your sd card on PC.
Do factory reset
Re partition ur sd card in cwm
Start phone & install link2sd before any other application
Use ext4
If ur kernel doesnt support ext 4
Partition ur card on PC using some partitioning software. use ext2 in this case. And try link2 sd now
Pls let me know if this helps
