Lately I've been having trouble using the touchscreen while my phone is charging. Touches are not recognized, extra touches are inputted, touches are recognized in the wrong place...etc
I'm totally stock, not rooted. Thoughts? Thank you!

This is an old problem with the RAZR. I think it's an earthing problem or the lack of one. Touch screen goes a little awol...
Usually, using the stock charger gets rid of this problem!
Yes, check the charger. I had a device that plugged into the wall and simulated a car charging port and could use a car charger on the wall. It made my touch screen go haywire. Since the basic jest of a capacitive touch screen is using minute static charges in your fingers (or what ever other body part...) then it makes sense that if the rectifying circuit in the wall charger is substandard, excess RF emissions could jack up the screen.
Also, stay away from Van de Graff generators, they tend to cause the screen to be crazy as well. I know, hard to believe, but trust me.

I had the same problem with my old Milestone. Used stock charger. If I charge RAZR with Milestone's charger, I get the problem less often.

Same Issue
I was going nuts thinking I was touching it incorrectly then realized it could be some issue with charging it. I am using the stock charger but still seems to screw up if plugged in. Especially when I am trying to use swype. It stopped doing it once I unplugged the damned thing.
Me too...specially while typing a message....
I have this problem because I bought a real cheap charger that would do mulitple ports, but since I charge it at night I dont care. If I use the stock charger or the one from my OG droid it works just fine. Its something to do with the charger and being crap
I had the same problem with a LG charger, that came with a non-touchscreen phone.
When I use the stock charger, I have no problems.

Same here. I had a SE x10i and MB300 both had the same problem. Realized later that the problem occurred only when I using a particular power point.
Sorry for gravedigging but this is happening to me too and I only use the stock charger :S
No solutions yet for this issue?
My stock charger does this, but fortunately I have another from HTC which works.
This is a common Motorola problem, touchscreen input is more or less distorted during charging. I had this with Milestone and it also happens to RAZR, regardless of whether the phone is attached to USB cable, original charger, a 3rd party charger, original car charger or a 3rd party car charger.
I've had this problem too, occasionally. I just reboot my phone each time it happens, and that seems to fix it for a while. It doesn't happen often enough or long enough for me to really worry about it.

Hi. I have the same problem and I got to say that this is the second phone that I experienced the problem with. First it was a iGlo A101 and now it's a Allview P5 Mini. I tried them with 2-3 different cables and none worked (it worked only charging in the car (the first phone) and charging it through the laptop (connecting the phone to the laptop)).
With the iGlo, I asked the warranty guys about this problem and they said that is a common problem for capacitive touchscreens because it works based on electrical impulses and therfore it's sensitive to electricity. They also said that the reasons must be the power source beeing with parasites or the cable. They suggested changing the cable with a thicker one (a Blackberry or Samsung cable).
I didn't get to do that because I chose to sell that phone and that's what I did. And now after buying this new one I have the same problem. This time I'm going to try more cables before deciding to sell it. I'll update this.
I've had a similar issue, both with Droid 2, Droid X2, and Razr Maxx. The only thing I can say for certain is that I saw it started with rooting the phones. Only had it happen with motorola, and never had anything get better, regardless of what wall charger. I read on one forum a common problem was a loose charger, but have never found any validation, or it's just a common issue with the Blur being rooted. However, if it's the price to pay for rooting, I'll take it happily. But cruising google, I've never found a solution.

The only thing to do is use the stock charger, I have the same problem too when using another cheap charger. It seems to be a Hardware issue, not a software, so there isn't a way to make it works fine!

This happened to me having the Usb Debugging turn it on, disabling it it stops this problem to me
I have had this problem too. Using the stock charger took care of it for me. It's frustrating. It's not so great for Temple Run 2 either! lol
Having same problem ...with stock charger!!!
n its really erratic behavior sometimes
I have a Zopo C2 platinum and encountered the same problem. Solution : disabled USB DEBUGGING. And voila, everything OK !

I wonder if someone has the same problem on his X10.
Almost everytime when I am charging the phone through AC i am not able to use my phone!
It just acts like CRAZY! When you try to slide thorugh the desktops, try to open an app etc. the phone simply does whatever it wants! It opens apps, it slides the notification bar down and all this at a really high speed!
Contacted Sony a month ago about this, but of course NO response on this!
Tell us more info like: R u running any ROMS or what firmware r u running from se? This could b a hardware issue or a ROM issue, software issue.

This same thing happened to me with a cheap charger from eBay. Would I be right in guessing you are not using the official charger?
It does not occur with all 3rd party chargers though, I have used others that work perfectly.

Have u tried flashing a new firmware from se with flashtool from the x10 android developement section.
You can also try the se software SEUS on the computer and hit the repair button on the update option.
Both ways will delete all data on phone though. But could make your phones software start fresh

Everything is fine when i charge through PC or Car, so either there is something wrong with the AC charger or....seriusly i dont know...

Check your charger voltage out put, usually it MUST remain like 3.6-3.7 volts, more than that you gonna have that happend.
last time im try to modify my charger to make it more efficient by using the 3rd party unofficial cheap n lousy charger, and i try it, more than or less than 3.6-7 (if im not mistaken, its a long time ago), then your capacitive screen will sense the leak electric then it just go like ghost finger.
In short, check your charger voltage again, it must be precise in certain amount of voltage, cannot too much or less.
Hi just measured the voltage output and it is 5.20 volts
What Do you thing? I thing its ok since the pc is also giving 5 Volts

display problem while charging (BST-80)
I have got it the same with my X10 mini and my new charger that I bought today - BST-80 (original SE).
My stock SE charger that came out of the box with the phone was EP800 (5V, 850 mA), but it looks to be damamged or defective (some weak noise I can hear going out of there).
This new one BST-80 is 5V, 700 mA. But I do not think that it can have anything related to 700mA vs.850mA (this should be related just to the time of charging from empty to full - 700mA should last longer than 850mA).
Anyway, I am also quite frightened of what it does to my phone. The touch screen looks to behave totally confusing. Once I unplug the charger, everything gets right again. Then I plug in again and the confusion comes again. So weird.
I have never experienced this with my former charger for whole one year of use. Both of them are original SE.
Mate, did it damage your phone in the end or not?? Did you solve anyhow?? Thanks.
Hi,yes I "accidentally" used a micro usb Motorola charger ,one that has its cord attached and you can't remove it like the SE ones and I haven't had any issues at all!It seems like it has been a charger problem after all!A real weird one though! I have 3 different chargers and all caused the same problem!I've tried my girlfriends x10mini with my charger and it caused the same problem!
Now I am good with the Motorola one!;-) Hope it will work for you as well!
Sent from my Iphone-KILLER/cracked [email protected],2Ghz/woooooohh suck on this biatch!!
I returned that SE charger back to the shop and waited for another piece, which would not be defective. Anyway, the new piece had the very same issue with the touch-screen. But in the meantime I tried out another micro-USB chargers from that shop - LG and Nokia. They did not have the "touch-screen" issue. But I ended also with Motorola charger, as the best choice of them. This one doesn't seem to have any issue - touch-screen works fine while charging, it doesn't produce the "buzz" sound like some another chargers do, moreover it has also 850 mA, which is the highest current I encountered while trying those chargers (they had only like 550 mA, 700 mA, etc.). So I am quite satisfied in the end. Thanks.
It's mainly with the wall charger. I have an adapter to use my car charger in the wall. I'm not sure why it slows the phone down. Texting especially a nightmare.
The original charger provided with the phone, or some cheap eBay/China one?
Not the original charger. It's a vz one though
Try the original one. Some aftermarket ones have poor filtering, and will cause problems. Most often noticed as a jumpy touchscreen, but other issues, too. If it works fine on the original, get Verizon to exchange theirs (test the replacement in the store) or return it.
I think it may be this adapter
You didn't accidentally set a low set CPU profile did you?

It doesn't matter if it's a VZW car charger, you are using some no-name cheaply made in China POS adapter. This is definitely the reason you are having problems when it is plugged in.
That's what I'm thinking. I may have to get a new adapter because I don't want this to affect my battery life in the long run

Get the actual HTC one, any of this cheap knockoff crap could be killing the battery.
Same thing here....original VZW charger that came with the phone.
is it just that the touch screen isn't responsive but the phone still runs fine? i have this issue with the original HTC charger so i'm using the one from my moto droid and it doesn't have any problems.
Same issue here. Phone slows down drastically when charging, especially when trying to type on the touch screen. Using original wall charger and cord that came in the box.
The whole system slows down. The keyboard doesn't respond, it takes forever to answer a call etc. I have to unplug it if I'm gonna constantly be using it. I thought it was the adapter, but after seeing everyone else's comments, I'm not too sure anymore

do apps run smoothly? something like angry birds is good to test with this. even if it's hard to play, you can see if the app itself runs normally or slow.
i also have problems with some keys (keyboard) while not charging, the key will stop working and after either typing another word or pressing the key plenty of times, it'll be normal again for a while.
taintphuck: you can try getting the charger replaced first, see if that fixes it.
maybe I just have bad luck, but the charger I got with my thunderbolt and the charger i got with my stratosphere both seem to have issues. or it's the power in our house.
with the thunderbolt and the stock HTC charger, the touchscreen would be much less responsive after a half hour of charging or so. when i'd type a text, it'd miss half of the keys i pressed. if i unplugged the phone and plugged it back in, it'd be fine for a while. so now i have a stratosphere, and it's worse. the touchscreen basically fails while it's plugged in and using "multitouch visualizer 2" if i place two fingers vertically from each other, the touchscreen will spaz out.
everything is okay if I charge through USB with either cable, or if I use my old motorola droid charger.
my thunderbolt has a few problems, mainly 4G barely works anywhere vs 4G working where it should with the stratosphere. 4G used to work on my thunderbolt and verizon is sending me a replacement. the touchscreen is also much less responsive than it should be. sometimes there will be dead spots on the touchscreen until i turn the screen off and on again. does anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
i also tried a droid 3 charger with my stratosphere and it has the same problem. if I plug an ipod into the stratosphere's power "brick" thing, it has the problem also. pinch zoom in the browser is either unresponsive or jittery until i hold a metal part of the ipod. the charger was plugged into a surge protector for this.
there are other posts online about this problem with the original droid, epic 4g, incredible, and ipods, but no one really found a solution besides to use the original charger which worked in most of their cases.
It's the outlet in the wall. I've had this happen on all my Android phones but only with one specific outlet that has a short. It does exactly what you described, screen becomes un responsive, freaks out, and my phone usually gets really hot too.

what if it happens with three different outlets? i'll try more and some at school on monday. i mean i wouldn't be surprised if our whole house had issues. haha.
edit: it's definitely the charger. i tried a ton of outlets and it does basically the same thing in all of them. i try a working charger (so far besides my droid 1 charger, an LG VX5500 charger works perfectly) and have no problems in any outlets.
this is happening to other people too: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?goto=newpost&t=1346784 (samsung)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1345728 (HTC)
is it not that common of a problem, for only a few people to notice it? i think i'll go to verizon tomorrow to see what they'll do about it. i feel like the HTC charger messed up my thunderbolt, but VZ is replacing it at least.
i'm at school, stratosphere is plugged into an APC UPS and i can't use the touchscreen at all unless i unplug it.
also i've never had any heat problems from having it plugged in.
So while my phone is charging the touchscreen becomes a bit unresponsive on the sides. Anyway to resolve this?
Its a very common issue with s2 ..infact screen gets a bit hot too if you use the phone while charging..please read the users manual which came with your phone for more details.

Touch response is lowered while the phone is plugged in, from what I read Samsung does this to protect the digitizer, whether it's needed or not is debatable and some custom kernels eliminated this in GB, I dont know if it's been removed in ICS nor do I know if it's a good/bad idea to do so.
AFAIK it is a normal issue to have. I also sometimes have scrolling issues while charging.
To me it seems worse when charging from AC rather than USB / computer.
Sent from my GT-I9100
I think, but don't quote me on it, that some kernels can cause this to be worse and some improve the problem.

Yup, i think u have hit on it. Unbelievable that the charger that came WITH it (OEM) makes my Samsung Tablet 7.0 Plus was non-responsive while charging, but i just happened on accident to use a galaxy s ii charger (just the plug part as the inputs are different) and wow, can use the tablet 100% fast and responsive while being charged.
I just googled it to see if its just me and ur post came up, who'd of thunk it?! lol
Hi. I'm experiencing very strange behaviour when charging.
The digitizer responses very odd to my touches, sometimes in an other place than I tapped, sometimes with a fuzzy trail.
I'm using the charger that came with my phone.
Right now I can't reproduce the fuzzy trails and out of range taps. But when I can I'll attach them.
Sendt fra min XT910 med Tapatalk2
I've never seen the "fuzzy trails", but I can confirm that the phone acts as if it's getting touched in weird places while plugged into a charger.
I thought I read that this occurs with non-standard chargers, but I guess it happens with the stock charger as well?
It can be very annoying when trying to text/type, I'll actually unplug my phone to text/type, then I'll plug it back into the charger.
p.s. - we're not the only ones who run into this problem. I think it happens to everyone.
Can confirm this^^^^...usually happens when I'm using one of the many chargers laying around the house (non Motorola)

No i have no debug and if charge with USB of my notebook not have problem, the problem is with original charger i have tested simultaneous 10 touch in screen with a finger!probably the voltage is not stabilized.
Sorry, I know this is an older thread, but.. Yes yes yes, I have this behavior too while charging. I thought my digitizer was packing up after only two months. But now that you say it's while charging.. So true.
I had this same issue on my Milestone A853, but it wasn't while charging - it was all the time. It gradually just got worse until I had to send it in for repairs.
But if the Razr is doing this only while charging, I might manage to cope with it. Although it does not always do this while charging.
