High call standby time (verizon) - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

So im not sure if this is considered high call standby time but it is higher then I usually of seen it and my battery is also worst then usual. Any tips to slightly improve battery life? or is this more or less close to normal?

Do a search on Cell Standby. Many many threads about it. There is a miss calculation in how Cell Standby is reported, it isn't actually using that much battery, a decimal point was missplaced.

Battery life

ive had my xv6800 for about two weeks now and im still trying to get my power settings tweaked right. granted, i ahve been playing with it alot and probably doing some things that arent conducive to long battery life. One problem is that i dont really know what to expect, so if everyone could please post what they do, any tips/tricks to increase the battery life that get out of it.
also if anyone does think they get good battery life out of theres, what they try to avoid doing on it, that gives you such good life.
thanks

The brightness of the screen is a factor. Try lowering it if possible.
Disable active sync, bluetooth, wifi, and beam when not needed.
Using the GPS drains the battery quick. ( results vary )
Push email also assists with battery drain.
Put your phone on standby when not in use.
Also the extensive use of PIE and Windows Media Player also assists with the drain of battery.
Last if you have poor signal strength this can also be a factor for battery drainage.
There are others out there but these are some that I encountered and learned live with.
There is a battery hack out there that can help you with your battery life. I don't know from the top of my head but search for a registry battery hack.

I think [email protected]$ hit the nail on the head. Everythng stated is a sure fire way to drain your battery quicker. I just got my Mogul and have been playing with it quite a bit even though its pretty much the same thing as my Apache but none the less all those things will drain your battery. I have this thing going on 2 days with very little battery left with minimal use of phone options.
I had previously not had data, so i kept BT always on, never went past 80% with texting and using some programs throughout the day. Now with data, for the last 2 days, wow, down to 20% both days. I turned off BT to see if that can save a little and will turn down the screen a little (was on 100%).

[Q] HD2 - No Signal Polling related to Battery Drain

So I'm constantly walking into areas where I have no signal at my school. The result is an increased drain in my battery in these low signal areas.
This is a problem that I have noticed on all roms. Radios also seem to have little effect besides changing some current draw bound (ie -4 to -9).
I use radio 2.14.50.04.
when I have signal (guesstimates)
In standby idling between -2 to -6 ma
30% Brightness Screen idling, -100 to -150ma
however when I have no signal current draw increases to -80ma and higher and doesn't go down until I'm in an area with signal.
This would result in a standby time of only ~15 hours.
When compared to my standby time of -2 to -6.... at the least would provide a standby time of 205 hours.
Are other people getting the similar results under the same conditions?
I use tBattery to log my data.
Oh and I'm currently using Energy Sencity Rom with Cookie 2.0 Final (november 19) if anyone is interested.
My soft reset button is red
I have a TMOUS branded HD2
It just seems unreasonable that my phone should continue polling for signal for 2 hours and drain 20% of its battery during class...
Perhaps someone has a reg tweak for this?
post tBattery logs if you can and state conditions for changes in current draw.
edit:
perhaps its not clear what my question is from this post...
Is there a fix to substantially decrease battery drain when the HD2 has no signal (airplane mode doesn't count )
iPhone seems to have got it down....
bump
Are other people experiencing this issue?
Same happens here with TMobile US HD2. I disabled Sense and that helps with battery life, but I'm curious to find a solution. Tried wmlonglife and band switch, but wasn't happy with either.
tried that as well
I have also tried WMLonglife and CMBandSwitch as well, didn't really solve my issue...
wmlonglife helped a little, but it was still kinda unpredictable, sometimes it would work.... it doesn't actually solve the problem of signal searching....
also, I think this happens 90% of the time, not *all* the time... sometimes, after being in an area with low signal, my tbattery may show a reading of -7....
I'm not sure if the registry has a way to fix this....could be radio related.
bump
i think it is okay to bump this....
I get the most battery drain in a building when I have no signal.
Other than that, outside or in my house the power consumption is very good (2-7ma)
*i get 80-130ma consumption in buildings...
I wish there was a way to decrease the increased power the antenna was using as well as increase the length of the interval the hd2 uses to search for signal....
that way, the power consumption would be close to the same in buildings with low signal as compared to areas with excellent signal....
really would like to get this resolved without having to swap out batteries.... Only problem left for me. Many other phones when they don't have signal don't seem to be affected greatly with this *cough cough* iphone....
ive noticed this too. when there is no signal the battery drains much faster, also happens if its continually switching between a good 2g and poor 3g signal.
i often just disable the phone until move back to a good area
would be great to have a fix... even it just gives up trying to get a signal after a period of time

[Q] what can I do to save battery on my Galaxy S II?

I get about 7 hours of battery everyday through medium usage and my battery drains quite a lot when I am revising and listening to music. I have a 1900 battery instead of the stock 1650 and it does improve battery life but is there anything else I can do? I find it a bit stupid that my battery drains so much when I'm just listening to music!
I am running CM9.
Whats the signal strength like in your area? Aside from the screen (put screen brightness down), 3g seems to drain my battery most in weak signal areas, where the signal bars are continuously on 1 or 0. I put my 3g / data off and my phone can easily go hours before any drop in battery percentage, I got 4 days battery life with 3g off using it sparingly or wifi when i could to check my emails. Only other thing i did was calls and texts, but that was just as a test.
But i like to keep data on, and gps, all the time. I often get 4 hours screen time and approx 24 hours battery life with my 2000mAh Samsung battery.
Aside from that, last time i checked cm9 was a battery drain, may have moved on a bit.
the only real way you can save battery "during use" is with some restraint. Ie turn brightness down if screen is on, listen at lower volumes if it's playing music. The more voltage it's using the faster it drains. So less brightness or volume output = less power used.
7 hours is around the average use for battery life savy users around here. Even with the extended battery I'd say your right about on the money for battery use (based on what I assume you do and don't know at this stage). But there is certainly room for improvement .
Now before I go on, you probably won't notice any significant difference to battery life during use from these steps. My only hope is that in-between use it'll save more power, and squeeze out a bit more usage time for you.
First/easiest thing would be go to check if it's sleeping properly. Just don't use it for say an hour, then go to the battery monitor in settings. Check the screen on and awake times, they should be almost idenical. If there are several awake records in between screen on's, then you have a problem.
If you use sounds like unlock sounds etc, go turn them all off.. this was/pretty sure still is an issue in CM9 (causes audio_out1 to continuously wake up the phone from deep sleep and drains the battery like a mofo). Also getting rid of facebook (if it's installed) will help.. it loves waking the phone for no obvious reason.. even with every form of sync, background data, and mobile data in general turned off .
^^ you don't have to do that step but I'm pretty confident you'd have to anyway, so it's just easier to do it straight up. Then you can look for other problems.
Next, install "better battery stats". If you like to support developers, you can quickly buy it off the market. Otherwise it's free here if you search for the official thread.
Reboot your phone, then leave you phone for an hour or two, then check out whats happening in better battery stats. I'm not going to pretend I unerstand what half of the stuff it bangs on about is, but I digress. Select "since charged" and then check each different tabs of data (partial wakelocks, kernel wakelocks etc). You are really just looking for anything that stands out as a red bar basically. small amounts aren't a real worry/bound to happen. If it's bigger than say 1cm long, it's probably an issue. Then it's up to you to find out what the app/process is doing the damage . So either google or the better battery stats thread will be your friend at that stage. It was obvious what is was for me cause it said facebook but you might have a different experience.
Hope that helps. But the only way that's going to make a real dent would be trying to use it less.. lol.
Oh and if possible, turning on airplane mode would save a bit of battery in use. And of course the obvious ones like turn of wifi, gps, bluetooth, data, auto sync, soft key backlight and anything else you can turn off
Just do it what i say .. Download the full version of app. called juice defender from play store..install it and then see the magic by yourself ..i have been using the same ..it almost double up the battery backup through its advance settings.

[AT&T] - Cell Standby.. killing battery. Anyone else?

Is this normal? I've had several android phones and this is the first time I'm seeing Cell Standby kill SO much battery.
I'm on stock rom with tibu frozen/removed bloated apps.
Same, it seems like cell standby time is around half of the battery usage. It's ridiculous, especially considering the screen is usually the battery drainer. I've heard that others have had this problem, and that, specifically, it was very prominent on the International Version. But I heard, however, that they supposedly fixed it for the US versions.
While I'm not sure about this, especially since many others, on other carriers, have also complained about the cell standby draining battery. If anyone has a clear answer, it'd be great.
Aside from the fact that so much battery seems to be lost due to cell standby, I am able to go around a day and a half with one battery, according to my "Battery Manager".

it shouldnt be. prior to this s3, i had an htc one x, a note, an s2 skyrocket, an s2. never had an issue with cell standby til this s3.

This has been posted multiple times BUT...the Cell Standby reporting is an error - it's not really taking that much battery it is reported wrong. I'm getting expected battery life even with Cell Standby being so high - just ignore it UNLESS you're getting abnormally low battery life.
The bug is ONLY with the "%" displayed by battery in stand by mode.
The fix won't improve the battery.
the real value of the "cell stand by" should be divided by 10
so, It's only a display error.

thanks, that makes a lot more sense. ill apply the fix so I can better understand what exactly is killing my battery.

cell standby

Cell standby drains my battery (~40-80%). Anyone the same problem?
Same here, do not know if could be a software or hardware issue.
Not evry h7 suffer this draining from "Cell standby", so when I write to the assistance they said to bring them the device for "further investigation about the device problem".
Suggestions?
- Tapatalked with honor 7 -
After not using airplane mode for 2 Days I'm on 33%
But in the night I need the airplane mode. Not really happy with the battery life but it gets better. I also call the service in saturday they wanted to report it to te technical service and said its normal. I think its because of 5.0
High % of battery used by cell standby means you are not using device much, it is normal. Also note that battery stats are not always accurate. To increase standby time make sure to close all background apps and turn off mobile data before letting phone idle. It'd be much easier to tell if there is a problem if you post screenshot showing battery stats and screen on time.
Mention any battery related thing in "All battery discussion here" created for all battery related things , Thanks
