After having used my s3 for almost 2 months now and having a recurring problem with the browser i have decided to speak out!
The issue is when i want to go back a page using the bank button it will only refresh the page and usually i will need to press the back button 3-5 times to go to the previous page. I am unsure whether or not this is just me as i have not seen any other thread on this and would like to know if anyone else has been experiencing this problem and if they have managed to solve it.
Regards
Jack
Please no comments saying just download a third party browser
Usually that is not the browser's fault and can be reproduced on other browsers too.
It happens when a page auto-redirects you to another. By going back, you'll land on the auto-redirect which again forwards you to the current page.
The only solution is, as you described, to hit the back button twice.
Browser manufacturer's could easy bypass this issue but that would potentially break sites relying on it to work and it would be a violation of how a browser should handle such things.
So there is no work around ?
will on certain sites the contain auto direct you can try to press the back button multiple time quickly so it can skip the auto direct
Been havin this issue to for a long time..super annoying, becouse many of the regular sites im browsing does this.. gotta hit the back button 4-5times. Dont get why the mobile browser does this when an desktop pc browser dont? I would guess both are supposed to behave the same way either way on the same sites.. anyone have a solution for this? If so i would be very pleased!

Quick question... something that has started to drive me crazy about my Hero, although related to the whole OS....:
1) Is there REALLY no Exit Option for the Browser???
2) Is therer really no "Home" Option for the Browser???
Both seems kinda basic don't they?
//Nik
No and no.
There are very few apps that have an exit or quit option on Android. The OS manages memory and processes for you so you in theory don't need to worry about it.
There are task managers available of course, but IMHO, not needed.
The Home page can be set, but there is no way to go to it... a bug I think
Yeah, I know about the lacking Exit button in the system, but most apps you can press "Back" to "close" the program, some prgrams close, some minimize, that's fine and it's a routine I've gotten used to, but with the Browser, the "Back" button will take me back one page and I would have to do that through the history since I started the browser, all the way back to my start page where it will finally close the browser...
I know that we can use a Task Manager, I use Advanced Task Manager myself and am happy with it but there really needs to be a one-click solution implemented....
Just my opinion...

just pres HOME key to "exit" an application
Just hit the Home button then to get out of the browser
Mind you, if you've hit a link in an email or Peep etc and launched the browser, that will lead you to have to press and hold Home to go back to the previous app.
Still, easy enough, but I agree, a bit of a pain to have to remember.

if you hit a link on an email or other app, you can return to your previous app by pressing back
Pressing back if you've clicked through to other pages in the browser will take you back through the pages until the last one, then it will go back to the last app you were in or Home if you were there.
well, this is the function of a "back" button
Exactly... just that sometimes 'Back' is further away than you thought
Thanks for all you guys' answers, you guys are great... good reading...
I know about the little tricks and ways to get "back" to home and navigate through the phones interface... I've been pushing the phone quite a bit since I'm testing it through work where we might add it to our current line of Windows Mobile phones as an option for those who don't like em, and also to do our best NOT to get the very popular iPhone as an option...
Anyway, during the last two weeks, I have been pushing it quite hard, and I have a personal agenda in there as well since I'm thinking of movin over to Android after a very long Smartphone/Pocket PC/Windows Mobile era... and this issue was one I needed to confirm that it is what I've seen, cause to me it is a little bit of a disadvantage to the whole system, there is too many steps to close programs, and I don't want all these applications in the backgroud eating up the RAM...
Browsing around on the web, which I do quite often on my phone gets quite cumbersome as I use my bookmarks as my Home Page, and to get to it, is quite a few tasks, when a Home-button would do the trick.
I don't think these two issues should be something that you "live" with or learn to adapt to cause I do think they are basic enough to implement.
Let's hope Operas browser has everything the built in has and more... and that a "close-button" gets implementet in the system or perhaps a third-party app...
Thanks again y'all!

if you really visit these websites so often, you can use the stock standard bookmarks widget. Click on the bookmark from one of your home screens and you open straight to the webpage.
I never ever open the browser by itself anymore. Always straight to a bookmark.
Another way might be to create a shortcut to the bookmark. Not sure if this can be done... but I might try it and find out.
Hi all,
I'm coming from a Galaxy S and considering a S2, i'm pretty happy with everything apart from what i imagine is the low Ram.
On the S i find that if i open the browser, start using it, press the home screen, open something else, i sometimes go back and find the browser has to load again.
Wouldn't normally be an issue if i could get a fast reliable connection in London, does the S2 still have this issue or does the extra Ram solve this?
Thanks
Phil
I don't know about the gs1 as I never had one but gs2 has real multitasking (as long as u press home before going to the next app and not the 'back' button)

yes since the gs2 has 1gig of ram, it can keep more programmes open before androids built in task killer starts killing tasks, therefore you can be reading somthing, hit the home button, go into a few different apps, then go back into the web page and it will still be loaded.
Thanks all, not normally a problem but what i do sometimes in load a web page on the tube while i have a decent connection to read when the connection goes, do something else then come back and find its having to reload
Might give orange a call.

As an temporary solution u can try the app called "Read it later" from android market. I liked that app a lot as it makes a great way to read web pages later offline.
Link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.ideashower.readitlater.free
There is pro version too.
Please use the Q&A Forum for questions Thanks
Moving to Q&A
Do buy SGS2, i can have browser, a download, a game and gtalk running together (+background processes) and it wont lag at all.

I face a problem which is about the graphical rendering.
Some apps some button will appear as broken which makes me confuse.
And also when I using the browser to surf on some flash video website, it appear to have some broken rendering problem.
Just like the one you may got on computer 3D rendering.
I know the above are hard to understand, but I really don't know how to present those idea.
Sorry for that and also my bad English.
Thanks everyone who came in this post.
This shows the problem when using friendcaster.
Huh, sorry you are having issues. I have yet to see anything like this on mine.
Hope someone has an answer for you.
I'm not sure entirely what you are asking here... so I'll just ask you, what's wrong in the picture?
However, sometimes while web-browsing, certain pages won't show properly (things missing, or off page and you can't scroll to them). Often this can be fixed by changing the setting of the browser to load pages in PC format, (or tablet/phone/ipad). Sometimes just getting a different internet browser can help too.
As for apps having missing buttons - this could possibly be fixed by going into setting>manage applications>(whatever app it is)
-clear cache
-clear data
Then try opening it again. If it still doesn't work properly, uninstalling it and re-installing it might help (this worked for a friend with his phone just last night).
If you are really desperate to try everything, factory resetting your tablet might help - though you will loose all your data and it isn't garaunteed to help .
Other than that, you have to keep in mind that developers don't exactly have every device made available for them to test their apps on, and this being a honeycomb device, it already has lots of compatibility issues they have to tackle - perhaps a polite email to the developer of the app explaining your problem would result in them eventually making a fix for it. Be sure to include your version of Android (in full) and device name to help him narrow it down.
I wouldn't hold your breath waiting - I sent Gameloft a very polite email over a month ago requesting their support for sony tablet s, and so far, no change (half their games are still not compatibile).
sometimes on apps that aren't 100% compatable with the screen ratio or resolution, i have to press the little square with the arrows pointed outward near the clock and press either "stretch to fill screen" or "zoom to fit screen"
i had the same button issues with speedtest.net app
Thanks everyone who reply on this issue.
Actually what I am facing is about the "triangle" broken mark appear in the picture which show up in the app "Friendcaster".
I think the app should be a pad version as there were no arrow icon.
I am wondering is this a common issue, as I found out the issue of video site is a common one as I have a try out with some display tablet in the retailer.
I'm running the excellent Toldo P7510 JellyBeanRom ICS v6 but I'm having problems with opening links in browsers using desktop useragent. For instance if I go to digitalspy I can't open ANY links by short clicking them. If I long click them and then select 'Open in a new tab' it opens fine. This is true for Dolphin and stock browsers.
However if I change the useragent to Android then it all works fine.
I also sometimes have a problem where the back button doesn't work as expected. Pressing it once refreshes the screen to the same page. If I press it many times in succession it will eventually go back a page (or more)
Anyone else experience these problems
Is nobody else having this problem? It's driving me bonkers!
I've hat the same errors. but two days ago I switched to this kernel
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1877784
and till now I don't recognized this error. anymore. maybe it's an issue of the A1 Kernel Toldo uses in his v6 rom.

Thanks marco.michel, I tried the new kernel but it behaves the same for me. However I managed to fix the link problem by disabling javascript in the browser settings. Still have the intermittent 'back' button problem though.
Just realised that disabling javascript breaks a lot of web pages that use it to function properly so that's not an option.
Anyone else on ICS having this problem with links not opening? Can people try going to digitalspy and click a few links for me, would be interested to know if t's just my tab or a general problem.
I've been on a few different Touchwiz roms and this seems to happen in all of them occasionally. I will click on a link in the browser (Any browser no matter which one) and it will highlight it like I pressed it correctly but then never load requiring me to long press and click open or open in new tab. Anyone know what causes this? It was like this on stock, beans and cleanrom. It does load very quickly when I click open but it will occasionally not open unless I long press and click open.
That happrns to me sometimes to..i dont know what it is either sometumes i think its just the link being weird

For me its not just a minor issue. It just straight up won't work on some sites requiring me to long press everywhere. Been like this since I got the phone. Figured it was some quirky touchwiz thing but it happened on aosp as well.
So after messing around with different browsers, the website I have the most trouble on is gamefaqs.com in that I can never click links to get around unless I long pres them and click open. Trying different browsers, it doesn't work on Chrome, The stock touchwiz browser or boat browser but does work on Firefox and UC Browser (Neither of which I am interested in).
So what could it be causing it I wonder?
