Hello!
I currently own a SGS II I9100 and a SGNote N7000. The I9100 is on stock GB(rooted) and N7000 is on stock ICS(not rooted). I want to have CM9 on both my devices. Both my devices are in the faulty hardware list that ICS brickbug can affect. :crying: So decided to downgrade the N7000 to GB before flashing CM9. Went through a lot of threads here, and one in particular was by Dr.Ketan which lists all the stock firmwares. A bit unsure whether my understanding of the steps are correct or not!
Download the stock firmware files of GB
use PC Odin to flash(as per steps in Dr.Ketan's guide)
after flash wipe and do factory reset
Flash CWM Recovery
Install CM9
My concern is that the N7000 is already on ICS. Won't a direct downgrade to GB via PC odin brick it?(Please don't castigate me if this question enrages you! I am dumbfounded here.)
Thanks in advance! :fingers-crossed:
Why are you asking about your N7000 on an SGS2 forum ?

I mean i quoted the example of N7000. I want to flash CM9 to both the devices.
Apologies for the posting in the wrong section. :crying:
Follow the instructions in the CM9 discussion thread to the letter to flash it on your SGS2. The Note, don't know/care.
I did mention that i went through the thread and had some confusion regarding the steps. I needed to know if i was correct in understanding the steps. Thanks for providing the link!

Hi there guys I really need educating. I come from a Samsung Galaxy S to a Samsung Galaxy S 3. I know all about firmware flashing, kernels n stuff on the original Sammy G, but haven't a clue on the Samsung Galaxy S 3.
I have managed to root the bad boy (go me!) but am unsure how to carrier unlock and to flash the latest firmware. The Sammy G was carrier unlocked but my Sammy G S3 is locked to Vodafone
Can anyone point me to the files and maybe some guides so that I can procede? Also what is this business about a flash counter? I want to be able to return to original firmware if it all goes belly up! How do I backup my original firmware?
Many Thanks In Advance
Doozy,
P.S.
Who is the best Dev to follow for A) Rom and B) Kernel? I followed CyanogenMod on the Sammy G but the CM9 nightlies fpr the Samsung Galaxy S 3 seem a little immature for me at the moment.
Cheers once again
I think you don't have to backup your original firmware because you can download the stock firmwares again later, but you can do a nandroid backup (i never did this^^)
If something goes wrong, follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1671969
About unlocking i don't know, but i think the lock will be gone if you flash any rom (but can't give you warranty, since my phone was unlocked)
You can reset the flash counter, it's called triangle away : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1494114
Im not able to say, whick rom / kernel is best, but why don't you check this thread and try some roms? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1674286
The first CM9 releases had many bugs, but they seem to be ready for all day use now (but i missed the Sammy Camera App, which is very nice )
Thank You very much for taking the time to respond I will take a look at those links.
Thanks Very Much,
Doozy
I have a rooted w/cwm recovery stock 4.04 on my galaxy s2 sph-d710 and I wanted to get the 4.1 cm10 rom on my phone, but I am not sure exactly how to go about it because what I find tells me to first install the GB based cm9 but im worried about going backwards from ics based to gb based roms, as well as potentially getting the factory reset bug. anyone know how I should go about this? thanks

I like people who ask questions before messing around with their device but This is not the right place for you because Your are using Sprint's variant of galaxy SII from your phone details.
You can check your forum here:
forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1281
-You don't need to flash Cm7 (gingerbread) but you might have to first install CM9 (ICS) as base in order to have seamless experience after flashing CM10.
***PLEASE READ THIS IMPORTANT INFORMATION***
- Please do not wipe/factory reset your phone Since you are running stock 4.0.4 ROM on a stock kernel.
-please search for a safe custom kernel in your own section, flash the custom kernel first, before trying to factory reset our wipe your phone.
-You can also open a thread there and ask for help before proceeding to CM10.
-FAILURE to adhere to my advise might lead you to bricking your device. It's better to be safe than sorry!

Swyped from my Samsung Galaxy SII
Though I have posted here many years ago, please treat me as a newbie now. I am not allowed to post on the developers threads since I have not been active here for a long time.
I have a Samasung Galaxy S2 w/ Android 2.3.4. I would like to add Cf-Root so that I can manually upgrade to the newest available version of Android.
1. My kernel version is 2.6.35.7-I9100 XXKH3-CL479037.
I see there are two KH versions of Cf-Root:
"XX_OXA_KH3: Untested (by me) (thx to robbielicious for the stock kernel)
XX_XEU_KH4: Tested"
Which one is better for my phone? Is there any advantage in using the KH4 which was tested by the maker, over the exact match KH3, not tested?
2. Could you please provide a link (to a reliable download site) for the latest android version? The sites that were in the original post appears to have been shut down.

You don't need to root to upgrade to the latest version mate (if you're talking about the latest stock JB firmware). You can simply download the firmware from www.sammobile.com or www.samsung-updates.com, and then flash it using Odin.

the advantage of using KH4 is that its already tested and proven wrk'ng. U can always visit WWW.SAMMOBILE.COM for the latest available android version for ur S2.
I believe sammobile.com should be left out. Because most of their firmwares are on hotfile. From what I know, hotfile is currently facing some issues.
Instead try out androidfirmwares.net for now.

immortaineo, Thank you.
I did install Odin, and then ended up adding Cf-Root. I like the CWM back up that came with it.
Now I am going to get from samsung-updates.com 4.1.2 TPA region (matching my current 2.3.4 region). I understand the procedure to update to the new version using Odin. But I have read somewhere that "an Android Jelly Bean Kernel must be flashed before installing any other Android Jelly Bean ROM".
A. Is the above about having to update the kernel first true? If so, from where do I get the Android Jelly Bean Kernel?
B. When I update the ROM, (assuming I can update from my current cf-root kernel) will the Kernel get modified, or I will continue to have my current CF-Root modified kernel?
C. Can I go straight to 4.3 Rom update, skipping the update to 4.1.2?
You should be reading a lot more before fladhing anything,as you dont yet know the basics.Youll end up in the soup.
Have a quick look through some of the custom roms,as the developer tells you what you need to be on/to do.You only need to read the 1st couple of posts.
Have you done efs/nand backups yet lol.....
You've got things all confused and complicated mate. Let me clear things up with these simple rules:
1. Flashing a stock rom using Odin doesn't require root. Also, it will replace your current kernel (and recovery) with a new one. It wouls also unroot your device.
2. Installing or updating a custom ROM will replace your current kernel (and recovery) with the one included in the ROM. Since most custom ROMs are rooted, root will not be lost.
3. You can flash any compatible stock rom via Odin or custom ROM via CWM irrespective of your current ROM (as long as you do a proper full wipe). Some custom ROMs may require newer versions of CWM though.
Now.. answers to ur questions:
A. That is not true for flashing stock rom via odin.
B. Your kernel will be replaced by the one in the ROM.
C. Yes, you can. Make sure to do a full wipe and follow any other instructions given by the ROM'S dev.

Hey guys
I am using this ROM on my S2 (Intl.) and yeah it has some bugs, but thats okay, but today i saw in the CM download section that there is CM11 available for the S2, butonly for the T-Mobile version.
So my question is, whether I can flash the T-Mobile version or if that would brick my phone. And if I can't, can I flash ROMs from the Note 2 for example? I have one S2 in use and one only for testing ROMs, so i could copy a stable S2 ROM on my sd and then copy the CM11 T-Mobile, too. Then I'll flash the T-Mobile ROM and if that wouldn't work i can boot in recovery, clear all data and flash the stable version? Or is thisimpossible and I am just a silly dude?
thanks for answering
Merry Christmas!
Do not flash non-I9100 firmware on the I9100, yes, there's a fair chance you'll brick your phone if you do.
I suggest you learn 'the basics' given your question (read the guides/tutorials stickied in the General section for starters), 'messing' with your phone in any way (particularly if it involves flashing, even with CWM) is risky without knowing them.
no no I know the basics including that you should not flash not appropriate firmwares, it was just a question, but okay, I understood, so I#ll keep waiting until an official version of CM11 for the normal S2 will be uploaded

Exactly. I know it seems a madness that the Galaxy S2 has not yet been updated (it is enough to think that the Galaxy S already has the CM11), but more of install the CM11 not journal cannot we do.
P. S: Merry Christmas
My issue is that sgs3 is stuck at 4.1.2 and won't update over the air or with kies.
i have 2 samsung galaxy s3 i9300 used by different users. 1 is completely untampered with. Used by an ordinary user. the other is mine and has only been rooted and bootloader unlocked. I unrooted it and flashed stock rom back since the device was still "modified". Flash counter now to 1
Now both devices are normal (settings->about device->status->device status=normal)
Both are from the same country (csc: i9300xefemg2 (=france)), same build (=JZ054k.I9300XXEMG4), same kernel 3.031-1314436, purchased from the same retailer with a 2 month difference.
I couldn't find any info on why it won't update ota or why kies says that the latest firmware is already installed
Why?
True or false: if i flash a stock rom (4.3) with different cs (eg: I9300XXUGMK7) how will i be limited/what will change in my device? (eg: are there ready tools for rooting)? And is there any chance that other procedures will brick my phone after i've done so?
thanks in advance, sorry if any of this is idiotic, i'm newb
