P509 Switching to edge randomly. - Optimus One, P500, V General

Hey I got a P509 with cyanogen 9 bluepill on it. for whatever reason my connection bounces every now and then from 3g to edge...no good reason for it...I almost always have a full set of bars when I'm at home. Now I have an option to connect only at 2g speeds but is there any way to prevent it from going from 3g to edge? maybe an app or setting?

not happening with me
where do you live
i live on east coast(not telling you any more)

Try using 3g only option.
1. Dial *#*#4636#*#*
2. Click 'Phone information'
3. Scroll down to the first dropdown and select WCDMA Only
If you dont get good signal in this option then i think its probably a problem in your network or location:silly:

I live 45 mins south of chicago. I get full bars everywhere outside my house. Inside I get between 3-4 bars (4 being full)
Dialing that number pulled up a testing menu, within that testing menu I was able to click on phone info and set wcdma only. Thank you that should do it. I used to have that option when I was runing the old 2.2.2 original android system but It was under wireless and networks not testing lol.
As far as the latest CM afaik I'm using the latest "stable" version. I would rather stay away from nightlies and such as this is my full time phone.
In either case this should be solved. Can't really test it as its kind of random lol but be assured I'll be back if it messes up haha.

Anyone else only connecting to the Edge network? I went into Wireless & Networks > Mobile network settings and made sure "Use only 2G networks" was Unchecked but still only connecting to Edge for me, the area I am in usually runs "H" with 6.1.0.

Oooo
im liking it!
a) All my homescreen apps somehow dissapeared.. but ok, i guess ill place them back.
b) A2ext by acejokey doesnt work very well.. some apps load, others dont. When you go to "manage apps" is shows the apps with the "sd card" icon next to it.
c) How do I flash the google apps? i clicked flash.. then got to home-screen, it asked me which apps i wanted to install. I accidentally hit cancel. Now what?
:Edit:
a) I had a different Launcher. Thats why
how is the built in VoIP/SIP working on this build, any thoughts on that matter ?
How is the market? Weather bug be fine?
Everything is working fine...one random restart but I believe it was because I was overclocked to high. My slide is usually only stable at 825 mhz. The makeover is nice and the new keyboard is fantastic. Copy and paste is a ++ can't believe this is just a nightly and not stable. 0 problems. Thanks Cyanogen!

Not sure if it would work with gb but try hebrewtoyou's wifi fix. It only affects some devices. My wifi is working fine.
I also love the built in tether, works better than anything else I've used, especially since it shows as an access point, not an ad-hoc network.

I *highly* doubt it will work, as those modules are meant for a 2.6.29 kernel, but trying it won't hurt.
Flashed this before work, loving it. I was loving the earlier version too, but it's nice to see Nightlys and be a part of this stuff. I didn't mess around with the CM6 Nightlys... Can't wait for more updates
worked fine until i tried flashing the gapps to it..then as soon as it goes to the touch the android screen it reboots everytime...has anyone gotten the gapps to work or is there an udated version?
nevermind i did some searching and found them...
what happened to battery percentage on status bar, i wonder if they got rid of it cuz the battery sits vertical instead of horizontal, or i am blind and i am just not seeing the option.

It's not there. I do not think it is an orientation issue since it works in Cyanoginger and it is vertical.

Personally, I had this issue the first time i flashed test4. No data without wifi, and voice bars were very laggy. I switched back to my stock rom for a day, and when i returned to play with it that night (reflash from .zip, not restore from backup), no more problems. The initial transition to 4g from 3g seems to take a bit longer than on the stock rom, but once it is up, everything is smooth. Not constructive, I know, but it is a data point.
ok thanks. but which is the link to test 4. i have a feeling i installed the wrong one. can u send me link if u can? thanks
Check the device thread on cm7 pre alpha links are at end. You want the one with a three which is actually the fourth one.
Here is how to get signal.
1. Goto network settings, scroll down to network type, select the cdma/edvo option.
2. Wait until green 3g. If it doesn't pop up repeate step 1
3. Once green, change setting to cdma+lte/auto and hit your screen off button. Don't touch phone for 5 minutes.
I'm not sure turning screen of makes a difference but this is how I've repeatedly done it.
I have found that if you loose 4g you can loose all data. Just repeate above. It seems to work for about 10 hours then a reboot is required.

tonyagee is correct. This worked for me when I originally had your issue.
thanks guys but this doesnt work for me. ive tried it with stock and leaked radio.
I too have CM7 and have issues with data/3g. I'm not in a 4g area so I can't speak for LTE. What I noticed is that if I'm connected to a wifi-network and move out of range. My phone has a hard time getting into 3g and vice versa. If I go from 3g to wifi. Same thing. It appears that this is a bug but I'd like to find the buglist so I can confirm. I have, however, been able to get around this issue by rebooting. A good indicator of data transfer is when the wifi icon or 3g icon is green and in the case of a 3g icon, the arrows are flashing. If they are white, you are connected, but you aren't getting any data.
Not sure if this answers your question but I would try the wififix that Imoseyon made (link is in the CM thread somewhere). I enabled 3g, then rebooted into recovery and flashed the wififix file. Once the phone rebooted, I was able to move between 3g and wifi without issue as long as 3g was enabled first.

mobile network not working on cm 10 or cfx roms

hi guys i am having trouble with the mobile network on just this rom. i only have 3g in this area (cant wait till january so i cant test lte, but it is most likely the rom. i just cant get the phone to connect to mobile network. do i need to flash newer radio? other stock moded roms work fine. No good on cyan mod 10 roms ethier
You could try disabling it from looking to LTE service in the mobile networking options - Maybe they happen to be turning it on to test and your phone is trying to connect?
It's under Settings => <More> => Mobile Networks => Network mode => Change to CDMA / EvDO auto
I already tried changing no luck thanks for reply
Very similar in theory.. But also try this.
Go to the dialer, hit *#*#4636#*#*, go to phone information, and change to CDMA auto (prl) in the drop down list there.

ya i tried that got it to work. now I am having the issue where when i receive multiple mms's In one single text
(i got mms to send and download using an alternate apn found in Baffles thread under android development if you cant get it to work try rebooting after you restore the apn)
the app itself tries to open it as a slide show then instantly closes, this is a problem with the app since i downloaded an alternate messaging app and it worked fine. the reason i care is because i wanted to have the stock app working due to the "reply in notification bar" feature. can you guys try out receiving multiple messages sent at the same time from one phone to another and see if it works or if any one can link me to a working CM10 apk messaging app

3G/4G Switch App???

I just switched from a rooted One XL that was running Scott's CleanRom 4.5DE to a new One X+ that I've unlocked and rooted.
One of the features I miss the most is the ability to force the phone into 3G for most of my use with the ability to turn on 4G when I am watching video or something that requires more data.
Is there an app that works well at switching back and forth easily? I did a search in the play store and there are a couple in there but they seemed to be geared for phones that are CDMA/LTE rather than H+/LTE.
Thanks!!!

I'm using Widgetsoid...add a widget to the screen and choose the "4G" plugin. That will bring you to the radio menu where you can select GSM/WCDMA only instead of GSM/WCDMA/LTE.
I use Phone Info by [email protected]
but the setting has to be changed every time you reboot

You just have to make a apn for 4g network then you just go into apn and select the 4g apn or the lte apn

Seems no matter which I pick it just resets to the standard option.
If I turn the radio off first I can set whatever I want, but, upon turning back one I still get 'LTE' even if it isn't the selected network type.
EDIT: I see I have the same problem as 'moregadget' in that no matter what I do it just seems to go back to its default settings. It must be some BS AT&T did to prevent us from opting out of the battery sucking LTE connection.
I am on an unlocked bootloader & rooted on the Elegancia 3.1.0 AT&T rom.

So I was loading the Team Venom ViperXL+ 1.2.0 ROM yesterday and had a moment where I felt like an idiot. As I was selecting the items on the ROM that I wanted to load I ran across the area where I select what 3G/4G icons I want and I suddenly realized something I haven't seen on the One X+ forum but was prevalent on the original One X.
When you have the AT&T 4G icons in use you can't manually select the network however when you load a ROM that allows you to use the typical H+/3G icons that I believe are on the international version you can.

4G Issues on CyanogenMod 10.2

I am new to root and ROMs so perhaps I overlooked a setting.
I just rooted my phone and flashed CM 10.2 a few days ago and I cannot get 4G anymore. I can only get 3G. I have tried a few fixes like dialing *#*#4636#*#* and adjusting the APN settings but nothing worked. I have the LTE button ON and I am wondering if I am still getting 4G because I have LTE on and it's just showing 3G. But I don't think that's the case.
Any help or tips would be greatly appreciated!

My personal experience, living in a fringe signal area, is that AOSP roms just don't have as strong a signal as TW roms (it presumably has to do with how the RIL had to be hacked/reverse-engineered to work for AOSP). I would prefer running AOSP, but unfortunately in my experience on my S3 and Note2, where I am located on the fringe of full 4G coverage areas, I have the same issues as you: on TW, full, fast, 4G; on AOSP, very obviously slow 3G or 1X.
Edit to say I've only tried 4.2.2 ROMs, haven't tried the 4.3 ones yet, so if I'm handing out wrong/outdated info, I'd love to be corrected.
I am now running a stock 4.1.2 ROM and still cannot get 4G. I now for some reason can't even dial *#*#4636#*#*. When I try it just says "Welcome to Verizon Wireless, this call cannot be completed as dialed." Anyway to get that number to work so I can check my networks again?

Try going into settings and factory reset phone now. If that doesnt work, reboot into stock recovery and factory reset from there and reboot. That seems to restore signal for those of us that got stuck in roaming mode from the Carbon thread. Might help your problem too
So I decided to re-flash CyanogenMod 10.1, adjusted the APN settings again, and I have 2 bars of 4G right now. Usually 4G will flash a couple times and change to 3G, but it is staying 4G, so hopefully it stays that way!
Well it stayed 4G for a bit until I turned WiFi on. The moment I turned it on, my 4G went to 3G. I turned WiFi off and I still have 3G. Anyone know what would cause this?
EDIT: My network type shows eHRPD with 3G, where as when I had 4G (before I turned my WiFi on) it showed LTE. If this helps any.

That tower had alot of problems in the area past the Olympics complex all the way back to Peterson because of the radio towers for the Jets. Bump... also having this issue. Trying CM 10.2 for the first time since August. It had Bluetooth issues back then, so I've been running Bean's ROM until yesterday. Can't get 4G serivce in what is absolutely a saturated 4G area...
Was able to fix the issue by wiping the phone completely (including internal storage!), installing Bean's ROM, doing a factory reset, then coming back.
FWIW I always wipe internal storage when going back and forth between 4.1 and 4.2+ roms, seems to alleviate any SD card issues that can arise from the changes to filesystem in 4.2.
