Google Voice Broken? - HTC Rezound

Searched around and found other people with the same issue, but no solution. Basically, on either my daily driver (Ineffablis 1.0) or any other ROM I flash, Google Voice no longer functions properly. I can install the application, but when I go to make it my voicemail provider, it tells me that my carrier (Verizon) isn't supported and that I will need to configure manually. I've done the *71, *90, and *92 routes to try and get it to work, and it just doesn't. Has anyone else experienced this, and has anyone found a solution?

I don't think you can set up google voice as default voicemail on verizon phones period because I have this problem with my incredible and had it with my Rezound
Edit: never mind lol

I had google voice on my incredible for over 2 years, and recently the same here on my Rezound, but I apparently something has recently broken...

I have also used Google Voice on Verizon, almost from when it first came out. I have no issues, but I haven't changed anything in awhile.

Been using it since the Incredible, never had an issue

When you get that message just back out of the app, then go to to VM settings on the phone and press my carrier. It will let you change it to GV and you'll be good to go
Pm me if you can't get it I'll walk you through it

Thanks jaysckap, but I actually managed to figure it out! I tried your idea but it kept giving that same error regarding the carrier not supporting automatic configuration. Ultimately I found somebody on arstechnica who had the same issue and said that they just went into the Verizon website and forced call-forwarding there instead of trying to use the application. Once I did that I was good to go, Google Voice is back in business!

I'm on verizon, but don't call anymore for my voicemail. If you go to the PC website for google voice, you can configure the voicemail to be handled by google voice. So, you get voicemail notifications like they would if they called your GV number.

[Q] Anyone have issues with their Visual Voice Mail?

I got this text message upon someone leaving a voice message earlier today.
//ANDROID:xxxxxxxxxx has sent you a Sprint Voice Message. Call 408-970-0000 to listen. MMSN,15f50fe30,2986,V69EhxxlPpO//CM
Anyone else having this issue, and if so, what resolved it, if anything?
I also can't seem to get into my notification options when I call into my voice mail either. Not sure if that's common or not though.
Sent from my HTC 3VO using XDA App
Someone left me a message this morning, it worked perfect. I would force stop it, clear data from the app, update your data profile then reboot and see if it works.
I gave it a shot, but it didn't seem to work. When I call the number texted to me, it just asks if I'm on a voice SMS enabled phone, but doesn't give me any messages.
I tried the suggestion on the help page through the VVM app, to compose a message longer than 15 sec and send it to [email protected]. Haven't had an occasion yet to test it again, but once I do, I'll update this with another reply.
Strange though. Through many different phone activations over the years, this is the only time this happened. Really hope I don't need to do a hard reset. If I do, I hope it works. Not like I can nandroid or anything. lol

Still a no go... Can't figure it out. ; ;
Gonna call Sprint and see what their take is on it. Will report back.
i am actually having the same EXACT problem!! i have tried for force stop and clearing everything... still getting the same message!! and the VM never shows up in the VVM app!! Thanks for any help!!
I guess that's the only other thing I can think of is a hard reset. If that doesn't work I'm guessing it's something on Sprint's side would have to call in for tech support. I know when you boot up for the first time VM tries to provision itself and will say Voicemail provisioned successfully once data services are active.
Well... Just got off the phone with support. I had a very determined girl trying to help me out. Went through a whole bunch of stuff, but nothing helped so far.
Her and I both googled it, and found 2 things:
1. People switching to a phone that doesn't have VVM capability receive these messages.
2. They are command messages to tell VVM to download each new message when they come in.
Can't figure out why the messages are skipping the VVM app and going straight to SMS though.
I think I'm gonna try a hard reset later and see if that does it. Hope it does, because I spent some time getting everything the way I wanted it. lol
Anyone think of a good backup app that'll help cut down on the restoring my stuff time? ^^;
ADDITION: The version of my VVM is T.5.1.0.62 Is this the one everyone else has also? Asking just to cover as many bases as possible.
Had the the same problem called sprint after about 45 min of trying different things i had to hard reset and they reprovisioned and now it works perfect.

Hard Reset did it. It was A LOT more painless than I thought it'd be though. That backup and restore thing from google really helped out a lot in getting all my apps back. ^^
Also make sure you do not have Handcent's "disable stock messaging app" setting on. When it disables the stock app, the stock app can't get the 9016 incoming VVM messages before Handcent does and will cause this.

You're welcome. I doubt it but maybe the Hancent team can find a work around for this. It seems to me that if you disable it it's disabled but maybe they can block all incoming from the stock app except 9016, kind of like a reverse black list (actually they call those white lists don't they?, lol). I'd like to see that happen, but we'll see what the Hancent crew comes up with. I know others have said that other sms apps can do this or something like that, but I like Hancent better than all the others.
Anyways, glad I could help.
My issue's back again. Did have that setting on though, so I'll restart and see if that does the trick. ^^;

I've been trying to tell my wife that for a long time, maybe I can use this as proof, she keeps saying I'm not that smart.
But glad I could help, if I hadn't done it myself I wouldn't have known how to fix it, lol.
Use spc app to "block" the text messages but still get voicemails if using Handcent.
Just wanted to pass this on to you guys, as it has always worked for me. I had the Evo rooted with a custom AOSP rom and had used GV as voicemail then decided I wanted Sprint VVM back. When I made the switch everything seemed okay, but when someone called my phone and it went to voicemail it wouldn't let them leave one. Did some reading and finally figured out something that worked.
1. Stop the VVM process in running apps.
2. Clear the data for Voicmail under applications.
3. Dial *38 and call it as you would any other number( You should hear a few beeps and then it should automatically hangup) This has something to do with disabling call forwarding but will allow your voicemail to properly provision itself.
4. Open VVM and it should tell you that it has been provisioned successfully.
You should be good to go after this point, but if it does not tell you along the bottom of phone that it provisioned try this again but reboot before step 4. Some have also said that updating your profile and prl after doing the *38 helps.
Just thought I would share this as I read the comments about a hard reset when they aren't needed. I'm not to sure this would help with the issue described by the OP but hey its worth a shot instead of losing everything.
Confirmed: Fix Works for Epic 4G
Yep, I had Handcent Default Application enabled...clearing this resulted in Visual Voicemail back to normal.

Word of warning re: AT&T Messages App

Be aware that if you install this app and setup the visual voicemail, it will take quite a bit of work to get it reversed back to normal. I liked the idea of having visual voicemail but I get too many sms messages daily and there's no way to avoid having this app notify you each time in addition to your main sms app (GO SMS being mine).
I've called AT&T 3 times tonight and I'm awaiting a call back after the lady I spoke to said she's contacting her upper level support. None of the 3 reps I spoke with had any clue about this app.
I've fully uninstalled the app and now it reverts back to a 'Please enter the mailbox number' message when calling to get my VMs.
[EDIT] And like magic, as soon as I posted this, the rep called me back. She was quite helpful and they removed the VM service or whatever that this app setup and put my basic voicemail service back on. They need to allow the reps you first contact to do this. So I'm a happy camper again but it was still more trouble than it should have been.
Proceed with caution...
I just use google voice for my visual voicemail. I don't think I ever even set up my At&t voicemail box. Lol

Been a long time since I've used carrier's voicemail. Google voice with its "less than accurate but always hilarious" voice transcriptions is number 1 for me too. Makes combining a business phone and cellphone so easy.

Agreed. The translations are never on target, but it works great for VVM.
I don't understand why AT&T supports visual voice mail for the iPhone and for the Galaxy Skyrocket but not for the Galaxy S II. visual VM is the only thing I miss about my iPhone
AT&T Messages was late delivering some of my texts, so I turned it off. I'll stick with the stock messaging app for texts and gvoice for voicemail

I also got suckered into AT&T messages.

Any advice on getting my VM put back?
Maybe the number that called you back?
Thanks.
I simply called the general customer service number at 1-800-331-0500. Or 611. Cross your fingers and say a prayer. Lol. Hopefully you'll get someone who's dealt with this before.
The funny thing is that the 3rd call I'd made was to someone who had a very heavy accent and I immediately thought it was gonna be an uphill battle. She proved me completely wrong...

AT&T Visual Voicemail Apk

Here is the AT&T visual voicemail app.. When searching th play store, it says this is not compatible. It said that with the original HOX also, but works absolutley perfect. No need for that horrible ATT Messages app. This works much much better. Make sure "unknown sources" in security is checked. Copy to SD card and browse with file explorer and install. Of course you can use ADB to push it also. My favorite must have program on my PC for working with files and apps from the phone is android commander. If you dont have it, get it. . www.androidcommander.com Again If you dont have it, it is a 100% must have, get it. Here is the voicemail app, or just click below.
Edit: For some people you must have Visual Voice Mail provisions on your account. If this doesn't work, you have to call ATT and tell them to activate visual voicemail. Say you just installed it and its not working. No need to say anything about how you got it, that doesnt matter. Just say play store. They have no way of knowing that it shows not compatible in play store. It took me a couple of calls to get it added but they did eventually get it. if anyone has any problems, Here is another thread talking about this app but for the OG HOX.
Worked great, thank you!

I installed the AT&T visual voicemail app on my stock ROM and it worked fine.
I then installed the Elegancia ROM and now can't seem to get visual voicemail to work at all. It just hangs at the password screen. I've tried resetting my password, re-installing the app, re-installing the AT&T address book app and syncml apks (the AT&T website says visual VM app won't work without this) and I also called AT&T to make sure visual voicemail was active on my account.
Any ideas how I can get this working again?
Thanks in advance.

No, I am still having issues. I was on the phone with AT&T and they tried a bunch of stuff. It was working fine until I installed the ROM. I think it may be due to the APN changes that were made to enable native WiFi tethering but I'm not sure.
Either way, I decided to just switch my voicemail to google voice instead. I think it'll be better in the long run. Apparently with AOSP/CM ROMs, voicemails from google voice can be integrated into the stock dialer - like on an iPhone.
Thanks for providing the apk. Is it still required to manually install it? I was able to install it from the Market and I'm currently on the Elegancia ROM, so not even stock ROM. AT&T also claims it's supported on our devices:
http://www.att.com/esupport/article.jsp?sid=KB414957#fbid=17ybI57IF1g
However, I had to call to have them activate VVM on my account.
Any way to make this work on Straight Talk? I know the iPhone's get vvm to work on ST. I installed it but the app would not setup or get the details it needs after I dialed the voicemail number.

Visual Voicemail and Dialer Combo

Hey all.
So the tweaking to get my HTC ONE just right continues...
The latest annoyance is the delivery of visual voicemail. I have the AT&T Visual Voicemail App but it is inconsistent (in terms of updating) and a pain to switch over to it for my voicemail messages. I came over from the iPhone bandwagon and got really spoiled with some of the amenities on that side of the fence - VV integrated into the Dialer is one of them.
Anyone come across a Mod to get the Dialer and a VV integration? The dialer itself is kind of a pain, so I wouldn't mind replacing the whole dialer interface if that's an option.
I am Rooted and Running Android Revolution HD for HTC One.
Thanks in advance.
Its programmed differently so probably not possible with stock launcher. I havent had any problems with the notifications though and have a shortcut for it on my homescreen so really not that big of a deal once ya get used to it.
Sent from my HTC One using xda premium
don't know if it's going to be possible with stock Sense and the AT&T VVM, however on CM10.1 you can get Google Voice integration into the dialer call log.

This is what I did too, but the problem is Google Voice is not popping notifications when a voicemail is received. My old phone (SGS2) used to do this, I still haven't found a solution.
I just recently tried out att messages. It's not horrible and you can turn off it notifying you of txt messages and still use the stock sms app.

Switched to AOSP (Pac-Man) 4.4.4 and when I get a voicemail, I get a weird text msg and thats it. Is there a way to get visual VM working on AOSP or is there a way to make it so VM's act as normal and I get a notification in my status bar?

Thanks. I called and had them remove basic visual voicemail from my account. Its still doing it, but I don't know if their system updates right away. Ill give it til tomorrow.
Ok. I chatted with Verizon a couple of times today and I figured it out. I think basic visual voicemail is required as part of their HD voice service.
Anyway, the VZW tech said that at a minimum, basic visual voicemail needs to remain on the account.
I was able to get the normal voicemail notification back by blocking Basic Visual Voicemail.
On a computer go to My Verizon account;
On the left under Manage My Account click on Block Services ;
Then click on Purchases;
Put a check in the last box called Block Visual Voice Mail and click continue;
On the next window click accept.
That should do it.
