Went with Inc4g over SG3. - Verizon HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE

After much deliberation, the size of the Inc4g won me over. After getting out of the store and using it for a couple days, I love this phone.
The idiot at best buy basically told me I was stupid for choosing the inc4g over the gs3, but what the hell do those guys know?
Interestingly though, I kept my unlimited data. I had upgraded to a rezound off of vzw before unlimited expired, but then returned it due to the heat, battery life and thickness. After returning it, I had to jump through hoops to get them to roll my upgrade back on the account and then went to best buy and got the inc4g. I assumed I was going to lose unlimited, but happy to see i didn't!
99$ for this phone plus keeping unlimited = very very happy!
also glad to see these forums and devs much much more friendly and mature than the rezound forums.

I too choose the Dinc4g over the SGS3. I played with both and well the Dinc felt better in my hand. The only thing that really bothers me is the cramped keyboard in portrait. What I like though is the native keyboard has a slide feature.

Wow good for you! Yep, you did good...as you will see from our screen shots, the Inc4 has Incredible battery life for the power it delivers. Its not getting much love only because it doesn't have a huge, HD screen.

it's funny, I guess this is happening a lot. The people at the store selling the phone need to call customer service (or this is what I was told anyway) to confirm the new contract, as since I was upgrading using my 2 year upgrade I lost my unlimited plan, but this was fine since we ended up saving over $79 a month on our new plan.
about a week after I bought the phone I call CS about a prob I'm having and before we get to talking about my phone issue I was telling her about how much we saved on the new plan, etc blah blah, and she goes, well.. your still on unlimited plan and paying $.. a month, I can see where the guy tried to change your account but failed like a pro.
good thing I called, they ended up having to charge us full for this month, and then rebate us back the money on the next month once the new plan goes into effect.
man would i have been even more pissed when the bill came and here I'm paying the same I was before thinking I'm saving $80 and no unlimited plan.
I love this phone though!
def worth the upgrade!

Returned My Skyrocket, I'm Back :D

After having the skyrocket for one day, I decided to go back to the original Galaxy S2. My reason? I saw a post on there that the OG GS2 was only $99 at Target. I couldn't justify the $150 extra price for a bigger screen and LTE option that isn't even in my area.
So I went to Best Buy and did a exchange/price swap for the OG GS2. The guy at Best Buy mobile offered me to keep my Skyrocket and give me $100 back. But instead I decided to get the OG GS2 and got instead $150 back. He said if I decide to go back to the SkyRocket later, he won't offer this deal again. The reason he offered it was because they would lose money on the exchange. What would you guys have done?
Don't get me wrong, I liked the Skyrocket, I even had it rooted. For the support of roms and awesome devs the OG GS2 has, it was a toss up. The Snapdragon processor lag was not noticeable when even scrolling fast through the forum categories this site has. Anyway glad to be back xD
Off to root this phone again!
You're crazy dude. If you could have gotten back $100 and only been out $50 you should have kept the skyrocket.
I'm not much of a penny pincher. I'm definitely not rich, but in the end it's not a lot of money and you only live once. I'm not going to live my life being cheap. Geez I probably spend $300 a month just in Starbucks.
I returned my SG2 and paid the extra $50 to get the Skyrocket. Of course I live in an LTE area, but usually use wifi at home anyway.
My thoughts were that the SR is more future proof. Also I see no lag with either phone. People with a sg2 who say they see lag on the SR are really on crack. They are both really speedy. I don't base a phone on benchmarks which rate things I would never really do.
But in the end, if you're saving basically a tanks worth of gas made you happy, then I guess that is what matters.

I will switch to Skyrocket if it's $99 in my Boston area ($250 instead) and i only got this one for $50. So in order to get the Skyrocket i need to put an extra $200. Hmmm too much.

I know it was only $50, but I also had a little over $100 in accessories on the OG GS2: Zagg Shield, Casemate pop case, extended battery, Taurus bumper. So in the end I do end up saving $150. Initially all I really wanted to do was see how much development would happen in that 30 day period.

So true. Both will be outdated within a month. At least the SGSII will have the huge dev community.
And LTE... that'll just get me to my 2GB data limit quicker. I'm on Wifi alot anyway and barely stream anything anyway.

I wonder if it would be possible to return the phone every 30 days since there is no "one return/exchange only" policy like AT&T...

SR is not more future proof - as it's a niche device with little in common with other devices, it's going to get very attention development-wise, officially or unofficially.
As compared to the I777, which can get nearly anything the I9100 gets, which is Samsung's hottest-selling phone of 2011.

its only 2 days old.......damn E
Welcome back, I think that the OGS2 is the better device for me. Glad you like it as well!
my take...
I returned the Galaxy S II for the 'Rocket... At first I was going to use my contact extension to buy and sell an iPhone 4S and use the profit to finance a Galaxy Note but now that I have LTE there's no going back, especially with my grandfathered unlimited data... The bluish display tint is annoying but I can put up with it, especially since I got the 'Rocket for $150. Fair dinkum for sure.
I have never done a 30days switch till this year. It's the way Samsung/AT&T had made their release on the Galaxy S2 and the variants.
As they release 2 "similar" phone within the 30days period. Which gives us the consumer the ability to go on a "trial" basis thanks to 3rd party stores like BB, Walmart, and Target with their 30days no question as return policy.
I bought the sgs2 for $260 out the door the hour it came out while paying verizon $220 to break my unlimited data contract and final bill. Yup, $480 and metered data this phone cost me. Best mobile month of my life.

Yes the dev part is true. Me on the other hand I don't run custom roms. I did when I had the captivate being as it took forever for 2.2 to come out, and when it did I already moved on.
I used to jailbreak all my iPhones just so I could customize it. But I never really got on to the custom rom bandwagon with android phones.
Stock works just fine for me.
I still think it's more future proof though being as LTE is the next generation and which is the future. It will keep expanding in coverage and in the end I think the SR would be the better choice for that reason.
For me, I like the bigger screen of the SR (my eyes aren't getting any better as I age), and I live in an LTE area.
I am actually enjoying the SR much better than I did my Atrix, although the Atrix is a great phone as well.
On a side note, I wonder why AT&T is only doing Visual Voicemail with their LTE devices. It would be easy to just offer the app for other androids. I used YouMail for my other phones which works great, but just something about having it built in to the carrier I like better.

[Q] Droid Eris PMP conversion

Hey all, I have a rooted Droid Eris running CyanogenMod, my contract is over in 2 weeks, I'm downgrading back to a dumbphone... I'm looking for a barebones ROM for my Eris just to use it as an mp3 player and for low-end games. Need something that's going to take my battery as far as it will go and a nice music app. Any suggestions?
HyHere's a nice script by condemned, it makes the phone wifi only and made for exactly those purposes. Hope it helps.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1216571
You can also try this rom ... I have never ran it bit it also seems like something worth while to look into.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=979808
A lil off topic here and maybe a lil too personal, but why are you downgrading to a "dumbphone"? You'll loose the ability to grandfather your unlimited data plan.
Sent from my Eris using Tapatalk
Right now I just can't afford a $80/month phone bill, so I'm dropping to the unlimited $50 prepaid plan. I have to cut costs where I can and I consider my smartphone the first thing I'm willing to drop.
When I get my tax return I'm probably going to buy a tablet for $200 - $250, because I know I'll miss my smartphone somewhat. I just don't think I get $80 worth of usage out of my phone. Whenever I have the money to blow on a data plan I'll just get the 2gb plan, I rarely use more than half a gig even now with the unlimited.
Also, I'm on Verizon, and I want the Galaxy S II, which isn't available on VZW because of the Galaxy Nexus... and $300 is way out of my budget, I refuse to spend that much on a phone.
Long story short: poor college student, cutting costs where possible, phone is the first to go.
I feel your pain, I'm in the same boat but wife's still under contract for another year! Lol, just enjoying it while it lasts.

[Q] Worth the upgrade from thunderbolt or wait?

I'm able to upgrade from my Thunderbolt to the Rezound for $99 (I can't seem to stomach the 2-yr contract even at that price!). I like my Thunderbolt but I have the itch to upgrade.... I can probably even sell my Thunderbolt on Ebay and make $100 lol. Anybody coming from a Thunderbolt wishing they stuck with the Thunderbolt and waited for a quad-core?
It's head and shoulders better than the Thunderbolt, but you may as well wait. With only two-year contracts these days it's worth the wait.
I've owned both, and I love my Rezound, but I got it as a replacement. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise.

It was kind of a mess, and it took a week of ****ing up customer service, executive customer service, and some nasty emails. I don't recommend it.
Did you get your TBolt on a one-year contract? That's probably the problem. They told me they pretty much wouldn't give someone who was about to be off-contract a new phone. They eventually did, but it was awful.

Here's the best question...what would you be waiting for? All of the announced HTC phones aren't for CDMA carriers. Who knows when the next crop of phones would be hitting and what they would be.

I was only able to because a CS agent ****ed up. Or, rather, did their job, and Verizon claimed they ****ed up, and so I appealed to a higher power.
A Verizon CS promised me a Rezound as a replacement, said it was in the mail, blah blah blah. I called a few hours later when I realized I wasn't sure if had included a battery and back in the package. The nice lady I talked to saw the order for the Rezound and no order for a battery and a backplate. So she ordered that and sent it to me.
Two days later I get two packages. One with the Rezound battery backplate and battery, and one with a Thunderbolt. One of those wtf moments. So I called in, asked what happened, and after hours on the phone they finally determined that the original CS agent was not authorized to give me a Rezound, and so the order had been cancelled, and they just sent me another Thunderbolt, all without telling me. All the while they gave me at least three or four different reasons, the first being that they had never ordered me a Rezound in the first place. So I asked the obvious question of, so why did I get a Rezound battery and backplate?
In the end they wouldn't budge. Only a Thunderbolt for me. No Rezound possible, despite them promising one to me.
I was kinda pissed, so I wrote executive CS an email detailing the situation. They called me, sorted the story out, and shipped me a Rezound.
I think the only reason I got a Rezound was because of their enormous series of ****ups. Without that they probably would have given me the same brush off they gave you. Well, they tried to give it to me. I'm not sure you'll have any luck--my situation was pretty particular.
Ironically I have a very similar issue. The customer service rep lied to me and said there is no other 4G HTC that is any better than mine so my option was to downgrade to a 3G HTC or take another Thunderbolt. I said "what about the rezound?". He told me the screen size was bigger on the Rezound so that is not possible. I responded by correcting him about the size. He said, "Ok fine, I will try to ship you the Rezound and you may have it by Tuesday but it will probably get denied. I will call you tomorrow if that happens". Sure enough, I was on the phone with his supervisor the next day because he never called me (shocker). They basically told me to pound sand in nice words. Eh whatever...

That's weird to me. Because if you're able to upgrade then your contract is coming close to being up and you would be free to go to another carrier. A long time ago on Sprint or Cingular my phone broke when my contract was over and they said they didn't want to give me one for free (I had no insurance or anything) but at the same time they were unable to diagnose what the problem was since it couldn't turn on. So I told them if you can't tell me what's wrong with it and you won't replace it I'll just go get a free phone from another carrier. Within 5 minutes they were giving me a phone. They offered me a particular one and I asked about a different one that was the same price and they let me have that. This was in flip phone days, still it was $100 price on phone.

I'm able to cancel in June... Verizon allows you to upgrade 4 months ahead of contract renewal.
It probably depends on your usage habits. My wife has a year left with the TB, but it's a great phone for her. The Rezound screen and camera are leaps and bounds better, but the battery life and overheating issues make me hesitant to say its a substantially better device.
If you are a power user who will really appreciate the screen and speed, upgrade. Otherwise wait for the next batch of phones that we're sure to see late summer or so. May as well stay on the cutting edge if you have the option!

Don't take this as a wiseass commnent or anything but...Doesn't the Rezound have GSM hardware? When (other than the iPhone) has a manufacturer retrofitted a phone to work on Verizon?
From my experience and other's, they will pretty much only bulge ONLY if you are still a year or so ahead from the contract being done. People where able to upgrade from a Droid Charge to other 4G devices, same with the Bionic. Im getting my wife her 3rd Droid Charge replacement, it keeps dropping 4G like there's no tomorrow whereas my Rezound is perfectly fine. One more complaint and they guranteed me a different 4G phone.

HTC Rezound Drops to $49 from Verizon, Incredible 4G Incoming?

WoW, price drop to $50 seems odd for such a high spec'd phone. I dont remember the Dinc dropping that cheap

To bad sales tax kills the deal

that's because the devs give us more than htc or verizon ever could. once this phone gets aosp it will pretty much trump any other verizon phone. that's unless the htc one ends up coming?
50.00!!! This is the phone I have been waiting for... and thats a hella good price!
I gotta come up with 50.00 fast!

I paid $199 for mine at the end of January and I still feel the same way...
i got mine for free but no beats earbuds.
Mine are still in the box.
Holy ****. Yeah, I paid $300 to get mine in December. I honestly don't think I could have gone these past 5 months on my old Eris though... so i'm happy with the Rezound as a device but geez dude, $50?!! Thats totally nuts for this phone. Damn I wish I could buy another at that price just in case my current one takes a **** in a year.

there going for pretty cheap on craigslist too.
verizons a bunch of assholes. they screw over indirect stores all the time with their dumbass price changes.
we had a bunch of rezounds bought at our 299 price point. then, verizon decides to drop the phone to 199, and 99 for new activation.....clearly, we can't match that, because even on the top tiered plan, we'd lose money...so we had to still sell at 299 for months.
then, i say f it, i drop the price to 250, get rid of the last one we bought for the 299 price point (taking a loss, but not that bad of a loss), and then we bought a few more at the 199 price point because hey, every other 4g phone that's high specc'ed is 199, so we should be fine.
now this bull****? seriously verizon? if i sell it at 99, i will, YET AGAIN, lose money for each damn phone sold. i absolutely cannot stand verizon.

YUP I feel for ya. Its pretty clear - has been for awhile now - that Verizon wishes the Rezound didn't happen, and just wants to get rid of any remaining units in stock. The reason for why Verizon or HTC would allow such an amazing phone to be treated this way is kinda making me go crazy. It just doesn't make any sense.
Also, you know that Verizon itself is losing money when they sell a $650 device for $99 or $49 too.. the numbers simply don't add up to profit. The difference is, Verizon itself can probably eat the cost without thinking about it, whereas non-corporate stores most likely cannot eat that kind of loss without it hurting pretty bad. Still, makes you wonder why Verizon would rather lose money on a great phone, rather than market it better and keep the price up.

Considering the i717...Opinions welcomed

Hey all,
TLDR; I'm budget consious. Do you recommend a $50 refurbed Note for upgrade now, or wait for a refurbed S3 or HOX upgrade?
I'm currently still on the i897 Captivate running CM10 nightlies. For the most part pretty happy with it (GPS is of course spotty), but I've been sitting on an upgrade waiting for something good (read: cheap) to come up on the Note or S3.
AT$T currently has a deal for $50 refurbed Note (+2 year renewed contract) apparently upgraded to ICS.
I'm wondering what thoughts you folks may have regarding this deal and/or how the Note is post-ICS upgrade. I'd almost certainly root and flash a custom ICS or JB ROM immediately, but I see there's been reports of issues especailly with GPS on the Note in ICS.
I also see the DEV support on the i717 is excellent and I recognize many names here from folks who moved on from the Cappy...so that's great, but I'm really hoping for a solid phone with no obvious flaws like we all know the Cappy had with the GPS woes.
Any thoughts or recommendations would be greatly appreciated!
TIA
For $50.00
To get a like new note...I'd be all over that deal.
the note is great device, with a huge development base. and It's gonna be around for a while...(forever)....IMHO
I got my i717 recently and have been very pleased with it!
The screen is crisp clear bright and HUGE!
The devs are really good and really friendly!
If you are thinking about it I'd say go for it!
GPS is accurate within 4 meters for me!

Go to a local AT&T store and play with the Note and decide then.
-Once you go NOTE, you'd say 4 inches a Joke
NOTE user:
"take a deep breath, make sure to get a good look at it, relax and slowly take it in, the size is overwhelming at first but you will have a happy ending afterwards".
Woman:
Can't go wrong with the note. A refurb goes through quality checks that will ensure it's like new anyways, and you'll have a 90 day warranty where I assume you'll be able to keep exchanging for more refurbs until you get a good one if you get a lemon...which you probably won't get a lemon.
HOX is a good phone, but I'm impartial to Samsung due to their screens and how friendly they are to custom developing. The screen on the note or the gs3 are untouchable by any other phone on the market imho. Its pretty much impossible to hard brick this phone if you dont flash anything you shouldnt, ie from the international note...so long as you stay here you can recover from most anything you mess up. GPS is amazing because the note has both agps and glonass functionality...super fast, super accurate locks. If you can handle the size, get the note, hands down. Even if it seems a bit large, most people quickly grow accustomed to it and can't see themselves going back to a smaller screen.

I agree with all the above posters - the note is a fantastic device and a steal at $50 (I wish I payed that for mine). I haven't had any gps issues on ice or jb. But i would definitely play with both the note and the S3 before making a decision.
Just out of curiosity, how much is a refurb S3 or HOX?

Thank you all for the replies.
I am sorely tempted...went to the local AT$T store and determined it will fit in my pocket. That would have been a deal breaker!
To the previous poster, there are no S3 or HOX refurbs at AT$T yet. For a long time, the Note refurb was ~$200 on their website and suddenly dropped to this price quite recently which obviously is making way for the Note2's.
Agreed on Samsung. HOX was under consideration b/c ppl say the build quality is good and Costco had them new for $80 and no upgrade fee. However no external SD or battery access was a big turn off.
After my initial experience with the Captivate of having an essentially crippled phone on 2.1 I swore them off...until I got tired of waiting on Froyo and discovered all you fine folk at XDA. Obviously now I've come to appreciate the Cappy for it's amazing flexibility and unbrickableness unless you screw up bootloaders. Who knew I'd get all the way from 2.1 -> 4.1.1 on this thing???
God I loved, er, still love my Cappy. It's my dad's phone now but every time I'm back home from my college town I mess with it still. The Note shares that same unbrickability, so you'll be happy with that. What I would love to see is Cappy styling brought back with Note size...mmm.

Pulled the trigger today. Even got AT$T to waive the $36 activation.
Now onto Root/CWM/Odin research prior to decision on which custom ROM to flash
:good:
Thanks again all for the opinions.
$50 for refurb and nearly $100 per month for service is not a good deal. Buying the note outright and getting h2o or straight talk at 40-45 per month is better investment IMHO I did that buying the iPhone 4 for $65 refurb and I paid for nearly no data and nearly $85 per month with 200 text at the time.

Yeah, if it were just me on a individual plan I'd agree with you, but I'm on a family plan with 2 lines and we have a 24% corporate discount on the voice...so when we average out the per line cost it's about $55/line/month...Straight Talk is $45/line/month so I'd need to buy a phone outright for ~$240 (net $10 difference/month * 2 years) which might get me a used Galaxy S2 on Cowboom, or roll the dice on eBay for something a bit nicer (maybe).
Trust me I've done the math and unless I'm missing something, AT$T 2 year service plan is about best I can do now.
Congratulations on getting the note. You won't regret it. Do you have LTE where you are? If so, all the better reason to be with At&t.
I'm pretty sure the One X is now $99 on contract/upgrade.

If I could get another one for $50 I would...it's an awesome phone, super fast on custom ROMs, epic screen...Go for it, you won't be disappointed.

I can offer my take: it's the longest I've had a phone in a year? It's lasted almost a full month. (I don't own a computer, tablet or TV.) The Note does it all for me. It's a fantastic device, save for the ridiculous buttons at the bottom. Pretty easy to flash. And if you are like myself and thoroughly disgusted with the Note 2? Right now, it's the only choice.
