Hello Everyone, a quick easy question. i am trying to load Mattgrofs Rogers Razr ICS Leak. (CA). my phone is completely stock, so it would appear that i am to follow these instructions
1. download the leak .zip
2. copy it onto the Root dir of the sd card and place into /cache dir
3. download the free app (Rom Manager)
4. Run the leak.zip
i for some reason thought that this update could be installed without rooting the phone, but it would appear that i misread. so the phone MUST be rooted in order to install this leak.
so Question 2 becomes, which root should i use to root my Rogers 651.167.3331.XT910.Rogers.en.ca ?
Additional Information:
system version Rogers 651.167.3331.XT910.Rogers.en.ca
android version: 2.3.6
build number 6.5.1-167_SLC-M33.1

Hi,
I recently got an unlocked Samsung Galaxy s2 in Australia but it is showing some unwanted Apps that are installed. It seems that the firmware installed is specific for Telstra.
Is there any way to get rid of these apps?
It shows Kernel version as 2.6.35.7-I9100TDVKF4-CL301812 [email protected]#2.
Baseband Version I9100TDVKF2 and Build Number GINGERBREAD DVKF4
Thanks in advance

You need:
Root explorer
Root access (Dunno how for SGSII as I don't have it yet)
Super User app from market.
1)Root your phone
2)Install Super User app
3)Launch root explorer -> System -> app -> *Press on (Mount R/W) on right top hand corner
4)carefully look for unwanted app(s). Rename those apps XX_.apk to XX_.apkold or similar so that extension changes and phone will no longer recognize app
5)reboot phone
6)Done
To restore unwanted app in future, remove 'old' from .apk extension .

Firstly install Kies if you haven't done so already (http://www.samsungapps.com/about/onPc.as), so you have the drivers installed on your PC so that it can read the phone. And download Odin from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=611625&d=1306787405 this is the program that will let you update Firmware and Kernals. Make sure Kies isn't running in the background cause those 2 programs don't get along with eachother just goto task manager and kill every process to do with Kies.
Than
Goto this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1075278 and download both files in this section-
XXKI3
Firmware info
PDA:XXKI3
PHONE: XXKI3
Date: 15/09/2011
Android 2.3.5
XEO (Poland): http://www.multiupload.com/XTRG43JVEG
XXKI3 Stock Kernel: http://www.multiupload.com/6XT83N1LLN
Password: [email protected]
Unzip the first file which is the firmware file around 200mb+ in size with 7zip. Than load Odin select PDA and pick the files location. Turn off your phone and turn it on by pressing Volume down key, menu button, and Power button at the same time. Than pick continue and you will be in download mode. Connect the phone to the PC and Odin should show a yellow bar with a com port opened. Which means that you are now ready to flash the firmware. Just double check to make sure Auto Reboot and F.Reset Time are the only boxes ticked than hit start.
Than go to this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1103399 and download CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KI3-v4.1-CWM4.zip - [Click for QR Code]
Once again extract it and open up Odin pick PDA and find the extracted file. Make sure your phone is in download mode and hit start with only the same 2 check boxes ticked as you did in the firmware install. Now your phone is in stock setup with no Telstra Bloatware! and fully rooted.
You will notice a yellow triangle now every time you boot your phone. This is perfectly normal and if you don't want it simply follow this guide to remove it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=14283369&postcount=2
To remove unwanted apps like social hubs, readers hubs etc download Titanium backup and refer to this list on whats safe to remove https://spreadsheets.google.com/spr...1gdDJRekl4QmkyNmIzUmRvX2h3UDVkQXc&output=html
Hope this helps
Odin is not able to detect the files downloaded from the first 2 links ie. Firmware (200 mb+) and stock Kernel. These files are downloaded as .exe files and not Zip. Also is there a need to put a new firmware or only Kernel replacement will do the job?
Tks

You have to extract the files with 7zip and you need to put new firmware. You should see a file called GT-I9100_XEO_I9100XXKI3_I9100OXAKI3_I9100XXKI3.tar this is the file you link to in odin
Be careful, you may have an 850 Mhz tuned T version.
The modems you may be stuck with
Are the kf2 or the ku4 versions.
Check your model under the battery or at boot.

If rooted, try Darky Rom tool 2 from market
Titanium backup from market also has an option under 'batch' to delete system apps. Need to root first.
I have the same version phone and flashed a generic rom to get rid of all the Telstra bloatware.
If you do ever install a generic or custom rom make sure to flash a compatible modem. Vodafone's one works well for all Oz networks.

1) i have no idea hwhat hyou mean by this, I would just trhy flashing a ROM again
2)The model number is just a line of text in the build.prop it really makes no difference
3)once you are unlocked it is highly reccomended that you do not use RSD on your phone, try the fuitcakes in the dev section
4) the installrecovery thing is not a problem
the internal memory of your phone? that is where your apps are stored and should be arounf 2GB
I rooted my phone with the method that was copying 4 filed folders to SD card formated in exFat and running 3 commands in terminal. I accidentally accepted a update that just came through on my 4.2 and surprising it successfully went through. My phone has lost its root and is showing 4.3 update available for my phone .
1.) is it safe for me to update to 4.3 at this point?
2.) is there a root available for 4.3?
Galaxy s4 (newest version I just got this phone Saturday)

Have a look at this thread before taking update 4.3 and to maintain your root: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2504408
I rooted my phone using this method.
There is a root method available for the VRUEMA7 Build that does not require you to wipe your device or flash ROMs, but it does not have an unlocked boot loader (source & credit to: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380325)
STEP 1: Download all three files from the first step from the source above and install/extract as necessary.
STEP 2: Insert a microSD card (exFAT format REQUIRED) into your device and connect it to your computer as a media device.
STEP 3: Move the extracted files and folder from the Root Exploit package onto the root of your microSD card. Do not put them in ANY folder.
STEP 4: Open the Android Terminal Emulator App on your device and run the following commands hitting return after each line:
cd /mnt/extSdCard
./pwn
./script.sh
Then a ota update came through this morning and finished. I lost my root. Where do I go from here? I don't really care if I have 4.3 or not I just want root access back

Can I just use this root method for 4.2.2 since this is what I am in now?

Hi everybody
I own an Xperia Pro MK16i. The phone is still on stock ROM (4.0.2.A.0.58 GB 2.3.4) and the bootloader is still locked. The only thing I did recently is root the phone successfully with eRoot.
Now, the phone still gets the OTA updates, right now it does notify me that the "new" update 4.0.2.A.0.62 (the latest GB release available for my phone) is ready to download. I would like to install this update in order to try it and only after eventually switch for ICS 4.0.4 (4.1.B.0.587 is the latest).
I was wondering myself:
1) Is there any way to backup the OTA update in order to save and store it for the future? I red that OTA update files end up in the /cache folder and thank to root access I managed to open that folder and see that as soon as I download the OTA update a download_package.bin is created inside the folder; the problem is that the file is less than 8MB and it's a BIN file. What this file is for and is there any way to make use of it? The only thing I know is that it's too small to be the real firmware/rom...right?
2) Is there any chance for me to get somewhere the 4.0.2.A.0.62 stock rom with the proper customization number? My phone is unbranded and purchased in Italy where I live, customization version is: 1249-7782_R12D
3) What does this customization mean? Is it about language? About preinstalled apps? Or what? Someone could clear me the whole thing please?
Many thanks

OK, I digged around about this point and just for reference I share what I found.
The main problem with OTA updates is these packages are binary DELTA packages; they are not the full ROM/FW release, but they contain only the differences between the source ROM (the firmware installed in the phone) and the target ROM (the updated firmware you want to install in the phone).
I took a look inside the BIN file with an HEX editor and what I found confirm the dependance between the update and the stock ROM:
<?xml version="1.0" encoding="ISO-8859-1"?>
<metadata version="3.2">

</software>
<customization>
<variant>1249-7782</variant>

</target>
</update>
</metadata>
This explains why my download_package.bin is large only 7.55MB; it does update (add/replace files to) the actual ROM. And this is the reason why updates through OTA are sequentials; I cannot install latest GB OTA update w/o go through every previous update first.
So this binary package alone is not useful to create a full ROM of any sort, cannot be flashed as is and cannot be extracted/unpacked/decrypted unless to be a developer and doing reverse engineering.
