So I tried flashing MeanRom the ics version onto the Evo 3d, and it flashed it. But every time it booted into the lock screen it rebooted itself. So I tried going back to the back up I made. But did not work, tried flashing a different rom but did not work also. It will go into recovery which was twrp but switched it to Ext4. So whatever I try it will just go into the HTC logo and get stuck there. I am at a loss, Please Help.
I will keep trying, but I'm running out of ideas
it does have s-on

I had this exact same issue after trying to flash Myn's ICS ROM with Touch Recovery on 1.5 s-on..How I was finally able to fix it was to delete the 4 ext folder off my SD card. Then I booted into fastboot and pushed TWRP recovery back onto my phone and flashed a gingerbread rom. If you need help pushing the recovery via fastboot, this thread is the answer. Be sure to give JTNiggle some thanks.

Good luck.

Doesn't EXT4 Touch Recovery take care of that for you? That was my impression. Off topic, I know..
evo rebooting
yes 4ext recovery takes care of that and you guys should be using it and make sure you have smart flash enable
I did try flashing a gingerbread rom with twrp but didn't work, which is why I flashed ext4

Well I used the dumlock method, which should have helped me flash the rom without manually going into my computer to flash via cmd right?
Sent from my SPH-D710 using XDA
Happens to me too!
To flash a new ROM, go to your computer, Command Prompt , type in the direction of your recovery. ex= cd\evo3dTWRP, then type in "fastboot boot recovery.img (or whatever the name of your recovery img is), press enter and your phone should boot into Recovery. Wipe all data, then flash ROM.
BTW: Do you have Smartflash Enabled in 4EXT,?
Well bootloader is working and the recovery is too, I used twrp but noticed it wasn't working so I flashed 4ext. But for some reason it won't boot up roms (of any kind) or even restore my backup. The recoveries will restore or flash the rom. But once I reboot the phone it will just get stuck on the HTC logo. Yeah smartflash is and was enabled.

So, I rooted my phone last night and ever since I've been stuck in bootloop. I loaded one rom and it was in bootloop all night until the phone died. I charged the phone up, wiped it and tried another, stuck in bootloop for hours with nothing working. Now, the bigger problem is, I - being an idiot - forgot to do a nandroid backup so there is nothing to restore too, yet when I set it to factory settings it's once again stuck in bootloop.
All my phone now displays is the green HTC logo on the white background, until the phone battery dies.
So... how screwed am I?
EDIT: CDMA, S-on, 1.50, I used HTC dev to root it.
Did you root with HTC dev. You need to flash the boot.IMG using fastboot.

CDMA, S-on, 1.50, I used HTC dev to root it. CM 9 Nightly.
Do what I said. Boot your phone into the boot loader. Select fastboot. Stick the boot.IMG from the Rom you used into the folder on the pc that you used with htcdev.
Connect your device.
Open up command prompt. Navigate to the folder in command prompt where you put the boot.IMG
Type fastboot flash boot boot.IMG
If it works it will say so restart your phone and enjoy.

Meaning I can just nandroid backup this rom? Or do I have to reflash it then flash the new ones over it?
If you want to flash a new rom do a nandroid backup first and then wipe everything. But everytime you flash a new Rom you have to flash the boot.IMG seperatley that was supplied with the Rom if that makes sense. This also applied when doing a recovery.

Unless the boot.IMG is automatically with each rom that does not make sense. However, if that means (which I pretty sure it does, I just need that extra clear clarification) that a new boot.IMG is supposed to be supplied with every single new ROM then that would explain why my phone is still in bootloop. No changes since last time I was on, about an hour ago I took the battery out and restarted it.
So it's still in bootloop whenever I try anything.
Help as well...
Stuck in the same problem. Hboot 1.50, S-on, and I'm trying to load Evergreen's CM7 port. I'm also using CWM 4.x (can't remember number, just the non touch version). Whenever I try to start my phone all I get is the white HTC screen with the little vibrate, then the black screen, and then the HTC screen once again and so on. I've tried flashing the boot from the file and then flashing the ROM with and without the boot.img in the .zip file. Help me. Please.
You need to flash the rom first then restart your phone load in to fastboot and flash the boot.img using fastboot. Search the forums there should be a more detailed way on how to do this. But its pretty much the same instructions I gave in previous post.
Try following this if your struggling.

Also try formatting your sd card or use a spare one and format that and then flashing the Rom and boot.IMG. I had to do that with my desire s.

hey everyone!! i really need u guys' help, my phone is either softbricked or stuck in bootloop right now. heres what happened, i have gsm evo 3d and i just got it s-on. everything was good, was on stock ics rom with superuser. made a backup using 4ext recovery so i thought i was good to go and tried flashing a sense 4 rom. after flashing, it got stucked in a bootloop and i later found out that i have to flash the boot.img. and so i did, but it didnt help. so this is where i panicked and went wiping and formatting and tried restroing the 4ext recovery backup i made and now... its stuck in the htc logo. means i soft bricked it?
If you can still get into recovery, you are ok. Maybe try to flash a sense 3.6 Rom (flashing the boot.img separately).
I also recommend getting s-off as that makes flashing easier.

yea but all i have right now is a GB rom from LeeDroid, downloaded that as it is one of the steps to getting s-off. will this work? or must i need a sense 3.6 boot.img? this is my first attempt on rooting and already facing bootloop :O talk about scary! ahaha
As it has been said if you can get into recovery you should be ok. Flash a non ICS Rom.
And you'll get past the boot loop. To flash an ics Rom get s-off that hay you'll have no problems. Saying that if your stock ics you might not be able to downgrade your hboot ansld therefore you can't get s off.

I see that coal is offline so ill try to help a little. The reason you bootlooped after restoring a nandroid is because you're not s-off and you didn't boot recovery from fastboot, you couldn't write to the boot partition. I'm gonna take a guess and say that your boot is corrupt. To get past this. You need to boot a recovery from fastboot. Do you know how to do that? Do you have adb set up?
Take the more useful advice.... Ignore this. It's probably way off ....
How did you format your sd card.
If you can get to your recovery, I presume you can as you flashed the rom.
Mount USB storage in CWM or whichever recovery you have. You can flash a Rom as explained previously and it will boot fine.

If you don't have adb set up yet, I'm gonna say running an ruu is the fastest way to get your phone working again.

gimme the steps or guides so i have a reference guys. thanks a bunch! im gonna head off to bed first, havent slept for a day because of this i only rooted because i want sense 4. see what htc put me through because it didnt come with official sesne 4 update T__T please teach me how to fix this. literally dying over here.
I'll look for the stuff you need and post it when I find it. You're gonna need either an ruu or you're gonna need adb, and actually, I'm not sure but you might have to relock before running the ruu which means you need adb. Gimme awhile and ill post with some links.
im not sure what does adb and RUU mean. but adb, isnt that the thing with the cmd.exe when unlocking via htcdev?

Rom update utility. Allows you to install roms. Could be a life saver for you.
Android debugging bridge. Runs on your phone and computer, you issue commands through your computer. Put simply, yes like command prompt.

Here is a link to the RUU's, make sure to get the one for your phone. I saw a lot of GSM RUU's but i dont know what carrier you have.
Here is a pre packaged adb installation kit.
You'll need adb installed to use the RUU because you're unlocked and it'll only run on a locked bootloader.
Once you get it installed, you need to find a recovery image. Put the recovery image in the same folder that adb and fastboot are in (platform tools folder) and rename it to recovery.img. Hold shift and right click in that folder and choose to open in terminal. Put the phone in hboot and plug it into the computer. Now Press power to select fastboot. Then type
Code:
fastboot boot recovery.img
You should now be in recovery and you can flash whichever rom you want to, or restore your nandroid.

Don't panic tanker, lol I can help you out with this. Here is the reasons behind your boot loop
Your recovery,
Your hboot
Your kernel
Let me elaborate. Cwm has been known to cause lots of problem with evo3d flashing latest twrp or 4ext recovery is recommended. Highly for 4ext. Now before I explain about hboot and kernel, currently you are a s-on user. What that means is that you only have access to certain partitions in the nand memory. System, data, and recovery. That leaves radios and boot partition( that's where your kernel sits) inaccessible through normal recovery means. Anytime you flash a ROM inside of recovery, you phone can't flash the kernel that came with it. So in actuality, your still on stock kernel with mean ROM.
Now for the solution. Your in a endless boot loop with your phone so you will have to download 4ext recovery for your phone and place the recovery image in your fastboot directory. Hook your phone up to the computer and run the command fastboot flash recovery "whatever the name of recovery"img . Boot into recovery and navigate to tools directory. Scroll down and turn on smart flash. This feature will allow you to flash kernels within recovery for s-on users. Wioe everything and flash your ROM again.
Now as for your kernel. Hboot 1.58 is only compatible with ICS stock kernels. That's the main point of your problem. What you will need to do is navigate to the meanrom folder and select the 2.89 kernel and flash it. Your phone should be able to boot up properly after that.
If that doesn't work, you could also try the first step of Ramjet's thread. That will get you back to stock and hopefully not bootlooping. Then if you continue the steps, you'll be s-off which makes flashing easier. See: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1889438

Funny. No you cannot make up file names, or commands...
First of all you need fastboot application. Save it to c:/fastboot folder.
1. Open CMD, type cd fastboot to enter fastboot folder
2. Type : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img (where recovery.img is the name of your recovery choice weather it is TWRP, 3eXT, or CWM.
I am currently using 4eXT, which I switched to from TWRP
And that's it after its done you should have a flashed recovery on your EVO 3D
Maybe I should add that the "recovery.img" file HAS to be inside c:/fastboot folder.
Good luck. If that doesn't fix it, or if you need any recovery images that worked on my phone, POST

Yes, that's were I am at this point. Right now I've got MeanRom booting to the homescreen seems like it's going to work, but the time is wrong and there's no service, before it can completely boot, bam, shuts down and reboots.
It does the same for the stock Sprint ROM.
Unfortunately I didn't make a backup of the phone when I gor it so I'm using a downloaded one.
I had Meanrom running on another 3D not too long ago, but don't remember it being this troublesome. What did I miss?

Ok well the first thing you need to do is downgrade your hboot to v 1.49000. I posted a link on the first page. If you were stock you coukd get s-off via the wire trick
But since you're s-on you need to flash the boot.img in fastboot and then flash the rom or vise versa. I cant remember which one needs to be done first as its been a while since I've used my evo3d. Basically anything thats ics and above cant be flashed unless you downgrade your hboot. Htc sent a hidden hboot ota to you at some point without your knowledge to prevent you from flashing. So downgrading your hboot is your #1 priority and you need to get back to stock to get s-off too

Using the wrong ROM!! Got it to boot using MeanRom ICS. Thanks!
Can I get S-OFF with MeanRom flashed? Or do I need to flash a rooted stock ROM?

Just flashed my first ROM (newest CM 10.1 nightly) with TWRP and everything seemed to have gone well but when I hit "Reboot" the HTC logo flashed for a second and then the screen went black and it's not doing anything. Been like this for 10 minutes.
I already rebooted back into recovery and reset the phone and cleared the caches and flashed the ROM again. Same thing.
Anyone know what's going on?

Are you S-OFF? If not, you need to flash the boot.img separately.

There are 2 S-off methods in the original development threads.

Look in the thread. If the author has posted the boot.img you can do it fairly easily.

Figured it out. Flashed it manually with Fastboot method and it boots into CM10.1 now but my touchscreen appears to not be working
You most likely need newest firmware if I'm not mistaken. You really need to s-off your phone. Then you won't have all the difficulty your having. Otherwise, you need newest firm ware...

This is because you have the newest touch panel firmware. It only works with roms based off of 3.16...currently no aosp Rom will work for you unless you s-off and downgrade to the 3.15 panel firmware. This is my understanding anyway. Flash a 3.16 sense Rom (viper, meanbean, etc) and you'll be back in business.

Thanks for the help everyone. So without touch I wasn't able to turn on USB debugging mode so that I could get superCID so that I could S-Off so I tried to recover with the backup I made in TWRP but it just boot loops.
How can I copy a ROM onto my phone without actually being able to boot into a ROM?

Flash the ROM through fastboot.
fastboot flash zip nameofrom.zip

Try getting a copy of cwm (not the touch version) and flash it via the fast boot method. Use the volume rockers to move, camera to select, power to go back.
It'd be easier to just ruu back to stock and start at square 1. Doesn't take that long to root and s-off anymore. Dirty racun would probably still work too.

Yeah, if you wanna run ANYTHING other than a sense 3.16 ROM, you're gonna HAVE TO S-off so you can downgrade that damn touch panel that came with the 3.16 update (thanks HTC :banghead
I thought the latest twrp was compatible with the updated TP now, though. What TWRP version you using? If not, as stated above, finding non-touch CWM recovery sounds like only/best solution. That was a good idea. Last I heard (long ago), CWM for this device breaks your /misc partition. Viperboy used to have it posted in the old viper thread so you could repair /misc. Not sure if it's still there.
Good luck.
From my Evo LTE, yup.
