can i transfer an licence from phone to tablet - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

i have brought numerous apps for my mobile phone, and now have a tablet, yet a lot of the apps seem to stretch , or their is a tablet version - is there any way to use the phone licence to get the tablet version free? or do you have to buy it again?

You will have to buy new licence for each device you put an app on.
I've Rom Manager on 3 devices but I had to buy each time

If you register both devices to the same Google Play account, you can download apps you purchased before on the new device without being charged again. If that app has a separate tablet edition, then you would be forced to purchase it again. Although nothing is stopping you from running the phone version on your tablet except that it may not have as good of a UI on a tablet as the tablet edition.

[Q] Where is my device in web based market?

I have read nearly all the "Market Fix" threads and can't find an answer to this. And I have tried searching as well, but pulled no results from the gTablet forums, so my apologizes if this seems like a double post of something already discussed.
When I access the Android Market via my pc, it says that I do not have any devices and can not install from there. I can merely browse. Now when I first flashed Vegan 5.1.1, I saw my device but now it's gone. I have not changed my account since I started and signing out and back in has not resolved this.
Also is it normal to have to apply the "fix" on a regular basis? Even before my device disappeared from my web settings, I have noticed a few times that my Market web searches often show results my Market app does not.
Thanks.
Does your tablet still have access to the Market?
While it's not typically needed to do the fix "again", I have read and experienced it myself where the Market seems to have reset itself back to its pre-fixed state.
This happened to me when the Market updated itself from 2.x to 2.x1 or whatever version it pushed down. I had to do the Market Fix again after that....this time quite a few times to make it work.
The Market on your device is designed to show you what apps are available for your device (ie hardware features and OS version) while the view you see from the Web is everything, regardless of hardware/OS version.
Do your Market Fix until you have a significantly "full" market and download something from the Market on your device. Check back on the web and see if you see it.
I've switched ROMs and such and still see my device (though it's name/info has changed on the website).
Thaks for your reply.
The market is accessible from my gTab, the device just does not show up via the web Market (either from pc or DolphinHD).
My big concern is that I will be upgrading my phone to a HTC Inspire this week and I want to make sure the apps I have purchased will be available when I add the new phone. If I don't have a device in the web store, will it effect my ability to get to all my apps?
As long as you use the same gmail account on your phone you should be able to get all the apps you purchased.
Not sure why your tablet does not show on the web market. We have 2 phones and the gtab on the same account, and they all show up on the web.
Maybe you find a solution in google help https://market.android.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=1141080 or the tab magically shows up once you have your phone.

[Q] Cannot see Paid Apps sections in Market

Hi,
I've just got hold of a Transformer Prime and am loving it, but I have one issue so far. I'm unable to see any Paid Apps in the market, just the free ones. I have an Android phone and am using the same google account on both. The phone works fine and I've made a few purchases from it historically without any problem. Indeed when I setup the Prime it installed some of my previously purchased apps onto itself. I've seen some discussion on using Market Enabler, but also seen that doesn't work properly on ICS. I'm just confused as to why it would be OK from the phone and not the Prime. I've performed factory resets, not provided my google account details on setup and directly into the market, but nothing works.
I'm based in the Channel Islands which may be part of the issue with regards to locallity and Market availability. But on all my previous Android phones it's been OK.
Any advice welcomed.

"the item you were attempting to purchace could not be found"
Same here. I live in Guam, USA and have the same problem. My prime is now on .14, unlocked, and rooted. Im gonna try some of the other market enabler apps and see if that works.
FIXED
I rooted using vipermod, installed marketaccess using a UK provider code, cleared android market data and its fine now.
But can you actually buy?
Yes you can see paid apps via root->marketaccess->clear market data, but can you actually buy them? I keep getting "The item you were attempting to purchase could not be found" when I try to buy any app.
Apparently it has something to do with the Market version?
Anyone?
Yes, I actually noticed that problem when I went to purchase something lol. A workaround is to purchase the item on my Android phone, then it's available to download on the Prime as the Market knows I've already purchased it. Annoying, but it's a workaround. I will hit problems when I want an application for the Prime that's not compatible on the phone though.
I don't know where the problem is, I looked into VPN solutions but it's all a load of hassle really. I've contacted Google about the problem but heard nothing yet.
Exactly the problem...
...trying to buy the two Tegra3-optimized games that can't be bought on the phone.
It's so freaking difficult being a law-abiding citizen these days. I am just a few clicks away from getting warez and start playing already!
I got it working!!!
Now I don't have the exact steps to get it working, because I only just noticed that on the web version of Market my Prime is now displayed with the faked carrier in front of its name. And then I was able to purchase the paid games I wanted on the web and have them OTA'ed to my Prime. Then I went to check the Market app on my prime, and I no longer get the "could not be found" error! So I went and bought something from my Prime and it also worked!
My *unproven* theory is that by setting the faked carrier and trying various things with it (downloading free apps from Market on the Prime) and leaving it on for a day or so, somehow the Market central database (or something) started to recognize my Prime as from the faked carrier. Then everything worked.
Or perhaps I did something *specific* that caused the Market central database (or something) to recognize my faked carrier. I was playing around with all the Setting/Location settings just a few minutes ago. Dunno if they did anything.
Note also that to make the purchase successful I had my credit card address in Google Wallet changed to an address matching the country of the faked carrier.

Is Google Play Mobile Restore/Backup have config?

Hey guys
Since Honeycomb Android is able to restore previously purchased app (free and paid). So when you restore to stock as soon as your Android device is linked to your Google account it put back the apps on the device.
That's cool....but not all the way....
I have a Xoom and a Galaxy Nexus. Both have their specific apps on it. On my xoom it's more games, on galaxy nexus it's more on the go apps like Pulse.
If I flash a rom or return to stock, when cloud come in I get ALL apps. From the xoom and the nexus plus those purchased in the past and don't want on the device anymore.
Now my question is: Is there a way to configure google to tell my account that this apps can go on that device but not on the other one....If Android TV come in canada I guess i'll get 200 apps that i don't want on it......
If i select to not backup/restore It is gonna take time to remember all the apps i had and if i use astro to backup it Google ay will not recognize them and will not auto-update them so that's not better.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using XDA
None that 'm aware of... I agree with you though, it would be extremely useful to have control of that. Of course, the average user only has at most 1 or 2 android devices, and don't spend a lot of time changing ROMS, so the need for device specific app assignments/settings may not really be on Google's radar.

[Q] Suggest an Android phone for this specific need

I am looking for a way to download device apps such as the Kreyos phone app ( these are all free apps) from Google Play store and be able to get those apk's off of the phone and on to my Android tablet.
I have been using a Nexus 7 which has worked well but the last couple of devices I have purchased, Google Play will not allow me to download the apk because my Nexus 7 is not a phone. So the question is what would be the recommended pre-owned device I should get that will still allow me to download apps meant for an Android phone but still allow me to get to both Google Play and the apk when downloaded.
I realize it is probably a stupid question but I do not know if any Android phone would work like a Galaxy or only a Nexus would work. Would it have to be unlocked?
If it makes a difference, I use Verizon but if a suitable phone was not available or too expensive, I would be willing to go with a phone I could not use on Verizon but still use Google Play on.
Thanks for any help you can provide.
Root the Nexus and change the build.prop to say, a Nexus 5, so the Play Store thinks it's a phone.
This article is a bit older, but explains what doing this means and how to do so. http://muzso.hu/2012/10/01/how-to-g...compatible-with-your-...-message-in-google-pl
Just plug in an appropriate newer phone for the settings.

Device backup not showing in restore options

Hi,
I have a very frustrating problem. I have an NVIDIA Shield tablet that has been recalled due to a battery problem. I have the replacement tablet here and when I go through trying to set it up I do not see the backup of the old tablet as an available source to restore onto the new tablet.
I have verified that Android Device Manager is enabled AND that my old tablet shows up in my Google account. I can also locate the device from my Google account.
Even with all of that working, I still do not see my old tablet listed as a source to restore onto my new tablet. (I do see several other Android devices that I own in the list.)
I have attempted clearing the cache from Google Play Services but that did not work either. I also thought that maybe I was missing an update to Google Play Services but I can't seem to find it in the store.
Would appreciate any suggestions!
TIA!
CRAP!
Just saw I put this under development! Sorry!
Hope a mod can move it to the proper place! Thanks!
