[Q] Using Samsung S-Voice with Cyanogenmod 10 Jellybean preview build - Galaxy S III Q&A, (US Carriers)

Hi guys,
Running the 7/20 CM10 preview build. I have copy pasted voicetalk.apk to System/App using Root Explorer and changed permissions to rw-r-r. The App launches, but crashes when I try using it.

Why would you want to use it when you have Google Now available to you? Chances are it relies on dependencies that are only available on a stock rom.

Yeah... Google Now blows it out of the water.

but if you really want it, get vlingo labs beta from the play store. It's the same thing pretty much.

In my entire life i've never had an app suck as bad as svoice
do a search with my posts to see a couple examples
i get an answer/result maybe 5% of the time if i was lucky
i cant wait for google now

Push the lib manually of you have issues on cm9
To do that, do this:
Extract the apk (root explorer)
Find the .so files in /lib/armeabi_v7
Copy them to /data/data/com.android.chrome/lib
Make them all rwxr-xr-x

Shortest and easiest method is make sure that you have sufficient space in /datadata partition. Try using app cache cleaner to clear some space and reinstalling chrome.
If it still doesn't work extract the /data/app/com.android.chrome-1.apk to some folder in your sdcard go to lib/armeabi_v7 and copy the libraries to /data/data/com.android.chrome/lib
It should work now.

CM9 Music Player

So I'm on Turls CM9 v5 build and I d/l the CM9 music player from here. http://www.seeingpixels.org/2012/01...16.html#!/2012/01/cyanogenmod-9-music_16.html However as soon as I go to play a song it force closes.. Anyone else having this issue? Is there a way to correct?
I've searched around some other threads for other devices and haven't found a "fix"
Works for me.
Use something like root explorer:
1. Copy the apk into /system/app (make a backup of the old one just in case)
2. Set the permissions exactly the same as the old one.
3. Reboot
No Buenos following those instructions. Now force closes won't even open

i just delete the old apk, reboot
install the new one like normal rather than copying it to system, it works fine as a normal app, hopefully itll be merged soon
It works for me but you must rename in system/app CM music.apk to Music.apk after change permissions and reboot ...

Haha true that. Thx for the info though... Waiting for a dev to bring it down to our lvl before the original dev releases it to the play store!!!
It's pretty cool but, I prefer player pro.
I get the same problem, every time I open the CM9 stock music it force closes. I checked in system apps and it's called Music.apk, how do I set permissions?
clear the data of the Music app in the apps settings and it will open.

Guide to make hulu work on Galaxy Tab

With the help of another xda member. (Halfcalf) we now have hulu plus for our device. All you need to do is place the extracted files from the zip I will upload into your titanium backup folder then restore the app AND data. All three files must be in the titanium backup folder. Not just one big folder. It took me a few tries but it works. I'll answer questions as your post.
I also noticed that after the first time it said unsupported..i just went back to titanium and restored the data again..if you have any buffering problems..that on hulu not the app.
Im currently watching hulu on my tab as we speak
Please post back if this works for you.

OK this is good news as you don't need to install an app from other sources. It can be downloaded straight from the market and it works on ANY device.
So download the latest hulu plus from the market.
Download any root file manager. I use root explorer but any other file browser that let's u edit data folder would do it.
Open file browser and go to /data/data/com.hulu.plus/shared_prefs and open cSPrefs.xml
Now in that file there's a huge string named lastTimeOut.
In that string look for ns_ap_device= and replace what's in between that and &. In my case I'm running cm9 so I have ns_ap_device=p5& where p5 is the devices name. Change that to a supported devices name, I used Xooms device name Stingray so the end result will be ns_ap_device=Stingray&
Just replace that part without touching anything else. Save the file and reopen hulu. It should work now.
That will work even it the app gets updated and its an easy fix if you clear data or something.
Let me know how it works for y'all and remember to hit thanks if it helped you
enjoy your hulu.

When I open cSprefs.xml it is only a couple of lines long and doesn't have the above string of text in it anywhere. I am using Root Explorer to open and edit the file, would that be the problem?
When i download the zip it says the directory isnt found. I cant even find the zip once i download it.
Sent from my GT-P7310 using Tapatalk 2
So I decided to try this again. I understand the directions now i do the following.
Use root explorer and open cSPrefs.xml
I find the text string mentioned above and change "p5wifi" to"Stingray" then save and close the file.
I then reopen the file and confirm the change. Then when I open hulu plus I get the device not supported error. When i reopen cSPrefs.xml it has changed the device back to p5wifi.
Can anyone help me please.

(Q) twc app root checker.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how to take the root checker out of the time warner cable TV app. Admittedly I haven't researched as much as I could. I will continue to. Just thought I would get some advice if there is any to be had. I would like to use this on my note and note 10.1.

I haven't time to decompile the app yet. There seems to be some problems with different phones/os. Lots of info to comb through. That's kinda why I started a q thread here to see if anyone has worked on disabling a root check in an app. Specifically on our phone. I only have an hour or so a day right now to even look into it. I appreciate your thorough reading of said thread. I'll get to it eventually. I've just never tried to disable a root check before.

It will take you less than 2 mins to get this working on a rooted Note.It is so simple it's silly.I couldn't rename superuser with ESF file explorer for some reason so I used the root browser in Rom Toolbox, just an F.Y.I. if you were going to try to use ESF.

When did you try this, because I tried that yesterday and it didn't work for me. I'm on Paranoid ROM.
I did it all three ways with no luck. But using it by changing my phone isn't the point. I want to change the app. That's why I ask about any insight into removing the root checker.

Have you tried OTA Rootkeeper? I don't know if it works for the app you're talking about, but it worked for the Flixster app for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.projectvoodoo.otarootkeeper&hl=en
It allows you to save a back-up of your root, and to temporarily disable it.
If you are on Jelly Bean you need to modify your build.prop. The setting you need to modify is the:
"ro.build.tags=test-keys"
to look like
"ro.build.tags="
along with renaming the superuser.apk. So the steps to get it working in JB are:
1. Uninstall the TWCTV App
2. modify the build.prop by removing the above setting
3. rename the Superuser.apk located in /system/app using ES File Explorer
4. Reboot your phone/tablet
5. Re-install the TWC TV App from the Play store and you will be good to go.
I've used this method several times works for me every time I flash a new rom.
Open root explorer
Navigate to /system/apps
Mount r/w
Delete superuser.apk
Go to settings
Scroll to applications
Find TWC tv
Clear data
Open TWC tv
Log in
Click live tv, to make sure it worked
Reboot phone
Open play store
Download superuser or superSU (your Preference)
Done.
Twc tv only checks for superuser once, so after you get the app set up, You can reinstall superuser and you will be good to go.
