how to disconnect MTP? - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys, i know this is a super noob question but eh...do i need to disconnect my phone from the computer when it's in MTP mode? or do i just plug the usb cable out. cause there's no option for me to disconnect the phone safely, either on the com or on the phone itself...

Just pull it out.

You just disconnect the phone. No need to do anything else.

Try a new USB cable I used a PSP USB cable for a while when my HTC hero USB cable stopped working properly. Just find some more USB cables and test them all.

You probably damaged the USB controller with ESD. You can try another USB port, but it's likely that all the ports are damaged (at least all the ports on that controller). Check the other ports on the PC. Most modern PCs have at least a couple of USB hubs built in. It is possible that a port on another hub or controller may work. Otherwise, you might be able to use a USB add in card in the computer if all the built-in ports are dead. They are relatively cheap if you have the slot in the machine to install one.

mount to PC is a known issue methinks. What is your current setup? Rom/kernel? and how are your settings? USB debugging set on/off? auto connect set to "ask on connection"?

Its common with the 2.2.1 roms. What you need to do is replace the vold.conf, and the vold.fstab files in system/ect. I have attached the ones you need. Just use root explorer and drop them in the ect folder, reboot, and test.

you should download toolbox from development section and the first option is to install drivers. once u run the program. install it and then test the usb cables. by the way i never charge my phone from a computer i like separate chargers so im using the charger for BB to charge my battery. its quicker as well.

Boston represent!!! Dorchester here. Its fool proof really. Just make sure you change the system to read/write in root explorer, and drop the files in the system/ect folder.

[Q] USB Connection problem?

Hey, so when I try to connect my GS2 to the computer (via USB), it doesn't connect for some reason. After connecting it, it takes about 5 secs and it starts to charge but doesn't connect to the computer. I've tried a couple of different ROMs and also on 2 other computers and its the same result. I need help please. Thanks
First make sure drivers are installed if so then try another cable that could be the problem.

You are missing the drivers. Search via Google for the hardware ID or simply by the model of the phone.

I have had the drivers installed, and I tried my brother's HTC usb cable and it still doesn't work.
My thread is right above yours. There are USB port issues with this phone. Although I feel for you, I'm glad to see I'm not the only one. If you have insurance take it back cuz it only gets worse. Flash stock while you still can, if you're not already running it. Trust me.

Same problem here and replacement is on the way, phone randomly thinks its charging, car mode turning on and such buy it is nice to know also that I am not the only one

USB won't connect.

Hey everyone,
I have been having troubles connecting my phone to my computer through USB. I used to have to push the micro USB cord to the side for the computer to recognize it. Now my computer will not recognize my phone at all, but charging through the USB connection works fine. Is there anything that I can try to get my computer to recognize my phone? (I have the drivers and have connected it to the computer successfully in the past) and if there is no fix, then will warenty cover it? I have had this since late October. I am running galnet miui if that helps.
Thanks,

My suggestion is to try another cable. USB cables can be real finicky. Or try a different USB port on the computer.

I did not replace anything - I just cleaned the port and all was good again.
Oddly enough - today it started acting up again. Going to try cleaning it again, if that does not work its time to get it exchanged under warranty.

It's a PC, Windows 7. I dl'd htc sync and googled htc drivers then dl'd that. When i plug in a usb cable then go to my computer it doesnt show anything. HTC sync also says no device found.
My experience with HTC sync is.....it sucks. But you don't see any extra storage in computer section? don't get a prompt on your phone to activate disc storage either?

Mount phone as disk drive thru usb options on phone... it then will install the proper drivers

Phone wont charge

Hey Guys, this is a weird one.
So i was on westcrips rom since january and on friday my phone stopped charging or being picked up on my computer.
my friend also had this issue and was able to fix it by using odin to flash the stock firmware. I did this as well and it seemed to fix the issue for like an hour. but now when I go to charge the phone its not picked up. but if I plug the cable in when the phones off and power it up with it connected then it charges? It has me pretty confused tbh!
has anyone here come across a similar issue or the same one? or did i do something wrong??
cheers!
Aaron
That's odd. Try flashing a stock fw again and do a factory reset (always backup!)

I had a similar issue on stock ROM. However, I found out it was because the charging port/charging usb was dirty. Yeah, dirty! Some people recommended using a toothbrush to clean the inside of the usb port and try and clean the usb pin too. It worked for me ever since.
The problem I had was, it would show it was charging, but in actual fact, it wasn't. i.e. the the little lightening sign would show, but no effect. And on the lock screen, it wouldn't recognise my charger and usb lead!
Hope this helps.
