auto restart - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi all, my S3 recently auto restart quite often, i dont know what did i do to lead that result. my phone is rooted.
anyone has the same problem? how do you deal with it?

One backup data and factory reset .
Two would be to identify why .

What Rom are you on?
Are you rooted?
Are you overclocked?
Are you undervolted?
(Answer yes to one of the 2 last questions and you probably found the reason)

try fixing permissions
Also, you may try flashing a diffrrent kernel

Tomorrow after charging... gonna do wipe battery stats and fix permission (what does this fix permission do actually?)... if then I have no succes... I'll flash a stock rom.
Btw I think he restarts in the sleep or wake proces... Though I never play with overclocking and undervolting.
Thanks for the quick replies!

Flashing a stock ROM would do no good. I suggest you flash a full stock firmware because I had the same problem with you back with my s2 and i just flashed another kernel and it did the job

Yeah actually I meant stock firmware. But the wipe battery stats and fix permissions did it for me... niice! Thanks xda!

It was fix permissions that did it, battery stats are wiped whenever you charge the phone.

[Q] Wrong automatic timezone after installing rom

After installing ROMs on my galaxy s2 1900 like JellyBam or Revolt, they both cause a timezone issue. After a while, the automatic timezone detects GMT. Sometimes it goes back to the right timezone (australia) but it generally stays on Greenwich mean time. Of course I can manually set time, but it's been bugging me for an answer. Is this an issue with AOKP type roms, or the kernel? Or something i didn't do during flashing?

korean to international

Hello there i was wondering is there any chance of changing the s3 korean firmware to european .
Next week i'm getting a korean s3 but i really want to change the firmware
Now I have a s2 that was 250s and then i changed it to i9100
Well i googled and searched in xda forums but i didn't found anything about it
Is it possible to change the firmware with flashing the korean kernel for it . Or the radio chip stuff is like mars and venus
No, because your phone doesn't have the same hardware with International one.

Yeah, just download an europian firmware from http://www.samfirmware.com by searching "I9300" and flash it with Odin. You need to sign up to download the firmware.

True . Still I bought gt-i9300 lol so that is not a problem anymore . I have a question again . What is the advantages of having branded s3 between unbranded s3
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Not much? If you're rooted anyway. Not gonna get updates early if you're branded. But custom roms sort that out.
No noticeable difference when it comes to actual usage

Again a personal question . I used CF-root for stock kernel on my gt-i9100 because syiah , philz seems to lag . Did on my i9300 too . I understand that they have more battery life , but overclocking them leads to fast battery drain , is that right? So i prefer staying stock. Well i don't play with my phone , i play with my gtab 7500 more
If you don't need the extra performance, no need to overclock. I did it for the heck of it then realised I don't actually need it so went back to stock. Overclocking does lead to faster drain but some kernels also provide under volt support so they kind of negate each other in terms of battery.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
So undervolting could save battery in theory? I heard it destroys the battery even the phone in whole .
Heard too much stories of dead phone because of undervolting and overclocking. Because of idiots putting overclocking and undervolting on maximum. But they just dont know what are they doing.
Thanks a lot . Sorry for so much bothering

no need to calibirate then thanks ! In mongolian phone shops we have a chinese battery with more mhA(like+300) and i have tested so far . The charging goes approximatly 6 hours when the original takes 4 can it damage phone particles . I have to assure undervolting goes without problem . From what volt should i start . I m asking because i work in mining geological team and the reason i bought this phone is the gps glonass

You won't be able to change clock speed on a stock kernel
To change kernel speeds you need a custom kernel which has these configurations.. Stock rooted kernel will not allow you to change the processor speed.. Rooting just gives you write permission on the /system partition nothing else...

That's not completely true. You can change the speed of the processor, it doesn't just run at 1.4 GHz the whole time. It has a clock speed table just as any kernel would. You can scale it anywhere from 1.4 GHz to 200 MHz. Just clarifying a little. I know you know, just adding on.

S3 becoming of old age?

hi all
I have had my S3 for just under a year and recently have been growing really frustrated of its performance. It feels slow at time (which is understandable) and it freezes and completely crashes on me randomly through out the day.
I have been running the _null rom for a very long time and find this an amazing experience. I have just today moved over to chaos final v2 rom and that seems just as smooth. I am still however having these crashes!
Any body know what it could be? I must admit my memory is virtually full externally and I have about a cool 3GB internally. This should not make a difference to the system crashes though!
All ideas and responses would be much appreciated.
Thank you
Please read "unusual freeze" thread in general.
This should be in q&a though.

Its not relevant. If you're unfamiliar with the s3 specifically, fyi "generic advice" is not applicable here. Faults and quirks of the s3 are unique to this device so really only owners or developers of the s3 will be able to help through experience.

Great, so you'll be fully versed in the update 7 kernel source code for the S3 that introduced the MOVINAND fix to address the faulty wear levelling code in the 0xf1 VTU00M eMMC memory? And that the issues the OP has mentioned are conducive with the side effects that this fix has on the device?
