Edit: Thank you XDA for being ad useful as ever. I've fixed it, decompile the apk, edit the manifest xml and replace 'target sdk = *' replace the * with 14.
On certain applications (such as Boat Browser when downloading a file) the notification is usually white/has a white background, rather than the normal ICS one. It looks really ugly again the black notification panel. Is there a way to change this somehow? Thanks.

I'm looking for a text widget that can access a text file that is located on my phone or dropbox and display the contents of the file. It should always update itself as soon as there is a change in the text file.
Does an app like this exist and where can I find it?

Anyone...?
Does anybody know how to edit the Setting for my phone to have a black background and whit text, im getting tired of this ugly white background
Can you be more specific? I see in your thread title you say settings.apk. Are you saying you want a black background and white text just in the settings? What ROM, if any, are you using? If you are using a custom ROM like CM7, I believe its made that way by default. Its been a while since I have used it. I think even Eclipse is black but I'm not 100% sure. So I am guessing you must be on stock Gingerbread. Which means the only way to really do it is to install a custom ROM.

yeah im just on the stock rom, and i want to change the settings in the actual settings app to have a black background and white text. Any ideas on how to do this?? any help is appreciated
Truth be told, trying to decompile and then edit an apk file is more painful than pulling teeth. Like js said above, you'll want to flash a custom ROM to gain real customization. There's plenty here that are awesome.

alrighty, thanks for the help... but one more question, which .png file is the actual status bar in the framework-res.apk file?
Well you could either open every png file until you find the one you're looking for. But the only way to know for certain (our so I believe) would be to have access to the actual xml file within the apk that references that png resource.
The only downside is that if the apk was obfuscated when it was compiled (and most are) you probably won't have access to that xml.
This comes from my dabbling in android app development. However, some greater, smarter person than myself may have a different answer.

alrighty, thanks for your help
I fond the preferences option than change folder directory. What am I doing wrong? I only have the default 5 or 6 fonts to choose from.

Update: I am able to accomplish this with minimalistic text just not simple text...

hi there,
i got the same question @simple text.
i recently changed the default font directory in the properties where all my fonts are. but they were not able to choose in the menu. same issue, when duplicating them in the /Simple Text/fonts directory.
do you have any idea, or how did you guys made this work?
thank you!
greets
Hey, this is really just a minor annoyance, but does anyone know if it's possible to remove the "tap the + above to customize home screen" message from additional empty home screens? This might not be an issue specific to the Optimus G but it's the first time I've noticed it... and if it is possible, could someone instruct me? Thank you.
P.S. I already did some searching around... I tried adding icons to the screens and then deleting them, but the message reappears.
Also, I tried deleting the screens altogether and making new ones... no luck.
You could use a different launcher

Yeah, that's an idea, thank you. Usually I hate stock launchers... but actually I don't think there's a third-party one that can compete with LG's stock on this phone in terms of aesthetics... I'm familiar with apex, nova, holo and the like... on older phones they can be a great improvement, but on the e970 they all seem like taking a step backward tbh.
Anyway to get rid of that text while staying with lghome?
You can try to find a completely transparent widget and add it to the home screen. But other than editing the lghome apk, there is no way to do it thought the included features of the launcher.
EDIT: Tested it out for you:
download https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.zooper.acw&feature=search_result
Change all the colors to 0 alpha
Disable all text areas
click save and you can't even tell its there.
Try using apex launcher, it is extremely fast and customizable. I'm using the monochrome icons with Xperia wallpaper.

How did you get the clock in the center? Are you running The Base?
That's correct. I also like the scroll and animation speed settings you get with nova launcher it has to be as fast or faster then the stock launcher.

That was nice of you, thanks. I'll try it with the widget, but actually you hit the nail on the head... I think what I'm really looking to do would be editing the ui somehow - I have previously taken the lghome apk and extracted it to look around... but I'm thinking it may be beyond me to do what I want. I have a feeling it's going to involve editing the xml files somehow, but I'm not sure... any ideas on where to start looking?
EDIT - Okay, added attachment just for clarity. There's really nothing on the web about this particular subject that I've been able to find. Maybe no one cares/all use third party launchers. If I knew where to look or what files I needed to edit, I could probably muddle through with a combination of common sense and web tuts unless this situation is going to require something like smali editing or whathaveyou, in which case I'd have an easier time trying to get my Beagle to give me the answers to the meaning of life and world peace.

You can do it only on JB and need root. You have to copy UniMessagebin.apk to your computer and unpack it with winrar. Then go to UniMessagebin\res\drawable-hdpi and find there background theme that you want to chance, for example message_bg_rain.jpg, open it with paint or other picture editor and change it or simply just replace it with your image. Than do the same thing with skin u chose in UniMessagebin\res\drawable-land-hdpi. Then images that you edited put to the proper folders in UniMessagebin.apk via winrar but with no compression and put modded UniMessagebin.apk to system/app on your phone and restart device.
You can do the same with message balloons.
