If someone could find a way to make this thing able to do the directv rvu mode, then I would buy one for every room in my house.
For those who dont know, rvu is the new way a single dtv dvr will communicate with up to 6 (i think) remote boxes to distribute live tv and recorded content. some of the new samsung smart tvs have this feature integrated already.

any one have any thoughts on this?
I forgot to mention, the main reason i am asking this here is since i thought the samsung smart tvs have some android functionality.

i thought it would be cool since none of my tvs have good speakers, so this could be a one piece solution for sound, satellite and streaming in rooms other than the main tv room. someone should tell google this.lol

Ok guys, I have done some hunting on the internet for a way to use my Android Tablet as a display for my PS3.
Now I am sure some of you are thinking "That's an effing great idea blorenzo, you are so awesome and wise" while others are thinking "why do you want to do that?"
To put it simply, for example say I am playing PS3 in my room (where my PS3 is located) but feel the sudden urge to defecate (take a ****) I can bring my Tablet into the bathroom with me, prop it on something and keep playing. (This is literally the event that gave me this idea)
On top of that say I want to play PS3 in the living room but am not in the mood to bring the entire unit downstairs, I can bring down my Tablet and plug it into the TV and boom! Or better yet say my girl wants me to watch a TV show with her that I am not into (Jersey Shore) then I can bring down my tablet and a PS3 controller (bluetooth reaches for me) and pretend I'm browsing the internet while I am really playing Killzone online.
You see in that situation it is a win/win, she thinks I'm spending time with her and I am actually having a blast killing people. I am sure there are many more uses for such an application and I could list them endlessly.
If it exists already someone point me in that direction if it doesn't... I think someone has ALOT of work ahead of them.
That's really a lot of work. Would the ps3 have built in drivers to transmit image through bluetooth? I think no, you'd need a modded ps3.

Not possible. Simple as. It the same reason you cant have wireless monitors. Too much info to be converted and move at speed.

PS3 doesn't have wireless monitor/DNLA support afaik, also i dont know if there is any tv/ hdmi input on android phone.

Lets think about this... (I'm not trying to be sarcastic or rude in anyway, I was simply asking these questions out loud to myself)
Are there Android Tablets that Support USB connections? Yes.
Is it possible to receive a video stream via USB? Yes.
So would it theoretically be possible utilizing some sort of USB Dongle? Or HDMI to USB Dongle?

Ya that's what I was thinking, I remember checking out my PS3 stuff through my PSP (Checking messages and stuff) on any wifi network, but it was pretty slow and limited, no games or really anything other than the web browser and messsage box. Maybe there will be something better with the PS Vita.

this guy here seem to have done what you want http://ps3maven.com/portable-ps3-mod/ and to everybody who said it cant be done in your face
to do this with an android tablet you would need two things:
1. you would need a wireless HDMI bridge (they're expensive, but something like this: http://goo.gl/z53fL)
2. You would need someone to make a mod/app for the tablet to convert HDMI out port into an HDMI in port. This would be done in either via an app or a mod to the actual kernel and how it uses the HDMI port. AFAIK most android tablets have an Mini HDMI port on them.
Doing these two things would give you wireless signal to your tablet anywhere that is within range of the HDMI bridge.
Nice, thanks for the reply's guys and now we know for a fact that its not impossible. If we only had a Dev who could see that this would be an awesome application for a tablet and come up with a way to achieve it.
Or Sony could just release this app officially, I would gladly pay for it.

I think HDMI in for a android tablet would be sweet! Think of taking car trips with a xbox or ps3. Or any of the many other devices you could plug in!

i have limited background in this, but was looking for the same thing. and everyone is saying it is not possible. Bluetooth is entirely plausible... plus the bandwith is **** so the image would either look good, but have about 2 frames a minute, or look like **** and be mostly playable. however, the PSP and PS Vita can do something similar over the network. if someone can rip the "Remote Play" bit out of a vita, and toss it in some sort of emulator, it might work. but the PS3 controller would likely have to be connected to the tablet.

If you have a PC with a video in PCI card (maybe if you don't mind the bad quality you could use a webcam even) plug your audio, and video from your PS3 to your computer. Use VLC to stream the incoming video and audio over your LAN in a format that your tablet can play. Play the stream via the media player on your tablet. Done.

I was actually thinking of a device that did the same thing (PS3 or other video source to tablet). Have you found any products like this out there yet?
I understand what AmnzeroCorrosion is saying as to how that path may work, but I think this glosses over some technical challenges. Using most video capture cards will introduce latency b/c most video capture cards encode to MPEG. While being very efficient in bandwidth usage, MPEG uses interframe comrpession so it takes a couple frames of video being input before the first frame can be sent over the network. Couple that with network delays and the latency only increases. I wouldnt see it taking much before the latency of the setup would make it unbearable for fast twitch games.
I would be extremely interested to know if this has been tackled already.

I was googling on it and found Idisplay application. Not sure if anyone tried on it, but i am planning to use it for my PS3 and LG 3D Android mobile.

I hook up ps3 to computer using easy cap usb. So can't we use an otg usb to phone plug in and plug easy cap.

I was curious to see if anyone has or heard of a ROM optimized for use as a dedicated media center or HTPC for our "old" or broken screen phones? I have 2 GS2s that I'm not using and the specs on them are better than a lot of the smart tv boxes like boxee, roku, etc.
I was thinking of a wi-fi only ROM that would output to 1080p, have VNC, network storage on boot, netflix, hulu, XBMC, bluetooth keyboard, game emulators, video calls via the rear camera, maybe GTV apps, etc, etc.
I know you can piece together something that could work via apps and configs but I was looking for something that would optimize the hardware for such a purpose.
Maybe a new CM branch...that would be amazing! Someday...

it would just be cheaper and easier to buy a xios or google media players for $60

It's not cheaper than a GS2 with a cracked screen that you already own. It also appears that those boxes are basically lessor powered android smartphones without the screen and battery to keep cost down. I'm not looking to spend money, I'm looking to use what I already have.

It seems like anything you could do with a Raspberry Pi you could do better with the better hardware and the an abundance of sensors in "old" smartphones. Anyone have any ideas at all? Fileservers, wireless repeaters/mesh, RADIUS server, NAS, etc. Just looking for non phone build optimized for non phone call purposes.
I agree that it would be better you use one of these "usb android media centers" that are relative cheap(and i think that it cost less than your SII sell price). I`m really waiting for something like this for rPi!
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 2 that I purchased last year. There's been a lot of talk (last fracking year) about Miracast, WiDi, and how great it will be to mirror my device. Here we are in May 2013, and the tech is still garbage or non-exstent. I'd appreciate it if someone could help me. Here's the scenario:
My family (like many of yours) is completely perplexed by the function of a TV remote's "Input" button. Once they have to change the input on the TV, all hell breaks loose and I end up having to "fix" everything by pressing the input button to get the TV to the right input again. My family currently owns 2 iPhones, an iPad, and an iPod. I built a Windows 7 Media Center PC with a 5.1 speaker system that we use as our cable receiver, 3D Blu-ray player, media streamer, music player, and AppleTV receiver. Since everything is built into that one box, no one has to change an input, and all is harmonious. The main focus is the AppleTV receiver feature, which is accomplished using a program called AirServer. It's great because anyone can click on the Airplay button on their iDevice and a window automatically pops up on the PC, maximizes, and mirrors the iDevice. No changing inputs. Great, right?
I, however, have a Galaxy Note 2, and the one feature I desperately want is garbage on this device: mirroring. I don't want to stream something through DLNA (because only a limited amount of files/formats/apps support it). I don't want another box sucking up power and requiring me to switch inputs on both my TV and speaker system. All I want is to mirror my device to my PC in the same manner that Airserver lets me mirror an iDevice on my PC. So far, this seems bleak and far-fetched. There are no PC software options to mirror my Android device onto a PC. Besides, even if I were to buy a dongle, the Samsung Allshare Cast dongle is quite possibly the most infuriating piece of crap I've ever used. It stutters, pixelates, and puts my audio/video so far out of synch that it's useless. On top of it all, my Wifi (for internet, on the Note 2) disconnects when using Miracast/WiDi. I tried the Netgear PTV3000, which is also a stuttering, unreliable mess of a device. I'm also not going to root my device. It's 2013, and I shouldn't have to sacrifice receiving OTA updates because Google dropped the ball.
So here's the question: is there a way to mirror my Android device on a PC without rooting or buying another box/dongle? I'd like to keep my Android phone, but I'm switching back to Apple if September rolls around and I'm still going through this. I'm not a fan of the company, but Airplay mirroring just works. No downloading 20 video players and 6 codec packs. No out-of-synch issues with audio. No dropped WiFi. No family members complaining that they "broke" the tv because it's on the wrong input. I want all that on my Android phone.

Then I would just go back to apple. As this feature will always be manufacturer spicific so you will have to do it the way that OEM requires and alot of android things will never play well with anything apple. Mainly not Samsung.

Yup, it sure seems that way. Samsung stuff only seems to work with other Samsung products. My options are that crappy dongle they make or buy a $1500 TV just to mirror my phone. No thanks.
My biggest complaint about Apple now is the damn lightning connector. I get why they made the 30-pin dock connector when they did, but Micro USB has been around for a while and has the bandwidth to handle everything going in and out of that phone. Making another proprietary connector was just a huge slap in the face to consumers everywhere.

I'm thinking of swapping to the z2 from a galaxy s3 (i've been sitting on this thing for way too long). I have a lot of samsung stuff in my apartment, things like allshare cast, mac remote app, smart remote. I'm sure I should have no problems pairing my phone to my smart tv's and my NAS provided there are android apps for it. For some reason I just have this feeling that anything samsung in terms of connectivity that's non-DLNA is proprietary and I might be missing out on something if I swap over and find out later my phone can not talk to my in house devices. I have 3 smart TV's, mac book pro, and a NAS. I like to think that all these devices have apps on the android platform and I could easily just reinstall these apps and pair the new phone to the devices through out the house like I currently have it setup with my S3.

Searching Amazon for "Android TV Box" I see a couple of very highly rated Gbox MX2 and Gbox Q media players. But are those full Android roms instead of the new (hopefully more user friendly (media player specific)) Android TV roms?
I'm most likely only interested in media playback (I don't know much about the Forge TV's pc game streaming). Any recommendations on whether I should go for one of these options or wait 6 months until the Forge TV is out and/or other players are available?

It looks to me like the Forge TV is going to come out end of Q1 ( less then two months). I am personally waiting for it as it will do more then any box on the market at that price .

What are the good features of forge tv? Is it expensive approximately?
Hey guys, heres some useful information to help you out .
So google tried to launch GoogleTV but failed when too many 3rd party hardware developers released it on bad peforming low end hardware.
Google has abandoned GoogleTV and created AndroidTV, and this time around they have set a minimum hardware requirements to run it, hopefully meaning that anyone should get the same experience, reguardless of what hardware box they purchased.
So technically it shouldnt matter if you buy NexusTV or ForgeTV, or any of the many hardware releases that will come out this year, they should all perform the basics the same
I also know of the NZXT Doko, but again, wait two or three months and you are garunteed to see heaps of androidTV boxes hit the markets, doesnt look like early adopters will be punished (hopefully)

I am looking at the Beelink R68 TV box... It's fairly new. Seems to have the best features and latest Android version available in a TV box... But, New enough that I can't find how to root it.
So, I have 3 questions...
1. Does it have to be rooted to watch live PPV TV?
2. Does anyone have one and what's your opinion...
3. Does anyone know a good TV Box root site?
