I bought my SG3 last Saturday and after 2-4 hours I proceeded to rooting and installing a custom rom. Because of this I'm not sure if the problem is with the phone (The problem didn't appeared on the first 2-4 hours before root) itself or originated after the root.
The phone freezes after the screen dims and turns completely unresponsive neither pressing buttons or the screen seem to work, the only workaround is to press the power button until it turns off and powers again. The problem does not always happens, sometimes it even happens when charging, and when it get disconnected from the power source the red led stays on.
Have you experienced something similar??
What do you suggest?
I have tried some stock roms with no luck, even tried Telcel stock rom (since Iusacell stock rom is not available yet see: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1790445).

I have a strange problem.
My Galaxy S2 (9100) is not turning off the screen anymore.
When I press the power button, usually the phone would turn off the screen and go into sleep mode.
Now the phone immediately wakes up again, showing me the lock screen.
I got that phone on Android 2.3.3 (Gingerbread) where it ran fine in the beginning.
Then this behaviour appeared. I have updated to ICS (4.0.4) via Kies software and problem still exists.
I then thought I might try a completely new ROM, so got CyanogenMod latest stable release from their website and installed that (with google apps).
No other software installed, so I can exclude this as a problem.
Problem still persists.
So it seems not connected to any ROM neither to any software.
The strange thing is:
The power button is working, because I can
- long press to bring up the menu to shut down the phone (which works ok)
- short press and the screen will turn off - only it comes on a second later again.
Obviously this drains the battery quickly.
Help please!

Hmm this is really strange
Maybe it's a "loose connection" of homebutton?!
Try do press a bit "harder" "softer" "more up" etc... hope u know what I mean....
If one of the pressings work it seems to be a hardware prob.
If always the same it must be a software problem and u can try to flash a new kernel (if u also on Cyanogenmod)
Much success
CHEERS
Of course I have already tried to press the power button in any way I could imagine (soft, hard, more up, more down, etc) - always the same result: Screen turns off and comes back on immediately.
The question is, what kind of hardware failure can this be? The power button seems to works.
Are there any hardware features on this phone that would either automatically turn on the screen or prevent the phone from going into standby? I know some of the newer phones have a function that detects if one is watching the screen and then prevents standby. Maybe such a feature is malfunctioning? Only I am not aware that the S2 has such a thing.
I don't think it is a software issue, because I have had the same experience with 3 different ROMs now (Gingerbread, Stock ICS, CyanogenMod 9)
Same issue Here .......
Let me start off by saying that I have searched in every possible place for a solution, and the only option I have left is you guys.
I have a Samsung Galaxy S2 that only turns on for a couple of seconds when connected to my computer or the charger.
The phone is running Slimbean 4.2.1 with Dormiax kernel version 7.46. Today I switched to Dormiax kernel version 8, but my phone would not get passed the samsung logo, so I reinstalled the 7.46 kernel. It was a little buggy during the rest of the day, restarting and ****, and then, all of a sudden, it died.
Now, I am unable to turn my phone on. And yes, I have tried with different batteries (4 to be precise). The only sign of life I get is when i connect it to the charger, then the grey battery icon with a loading circle in it shows up for a couple of seconds, and then the phone goes black for a couple of seconds, and the icon reappear again. I can also make the download mode screen appear, however, this too only shows up for a couple of seconds.
Have anybody experienced something similar? If so, any suggestions on what I can do?
It is two days now that my GS2 (stock 4.1.2, PhilZ latest kernel + some bloatware removal and little ROM integrations, like androidlost: nothing recent, anyway) after being turned off all night long, boots up to the home: it responds for half a minute than freezes for a minute or two; then soft-reboots and then go all ok.
If I turn it off and on, I have no problems: this only happens at first boot in the morning.
I'm not sure, but it also seems that if I let it boot the first time without touching anything, after the screen goes black the autoreboot does not trigger.
I only remember it recently updated some Samsung service (push, maybe).
Can anybody suggest a way to find out what's going on, like reading some boot log anywhere?
At the moment I don't know where to look at!
Using RootExplorer I tried to open /dev/log/system in text viewer: the phone freezed!!!
after exchanging my phone due to the reboot problem, im encountering a new problem
my screen sometimes turns on by itself, and if i try to operate it at that point, the screen will turn black and nothing is functional except for the soft buttons and the pull down menu, only restart will solve this
sometimes it will also just crash to black even without the screen turning on by itself scenario
does anyone have the same issue? i suspect this is a software problem
I just got the z5 last night, and experienced the same problem this morning. Turns out that if you give the power button a 'double click', the screen comes back on. So this solves the problem reported above.
HOWEVER, there must be a setting (I hope) which we can change, I find it very irritating that as soon as I make a call, the screen goes blank, and you have to double-click the power button to see what is happening. If anyone knows about such a setting, please let us know!
My screen went black about an hour ago.
After Hotspotting for 40ish minutes so I could use my iPhone on the way to work on the train, I tried to check this forum with my Z5C, the back of it was really hot & after a few minutes, the screen went black & the phone was unresponsive for around 20 seconds & then basically unusable once it came back on, for another 20ish seconds, due to lag.

Did you ever find a resolution for this? it is driving me crazy, I've tried factory resets, software repairs via the Sony Companion and this still occurs, sometimes it won't happen for a week then sometimes it happens multiple times in a row even straight after a reboot. The fix that RohitMayor describes does not work on my device. This phone is really terrible compared to the Z3 Compact
I have the same issue. This pb occurs since i have update my phone to 6.0.1...
Any solution ?
I've got a strange problem with my Sprint Galaxy Note 3.
What's happening is that randomly when I hit the power to turn the screen back on, it will do nothing then the screen will stay blank. The phone clearly still works because if I'm on a call or listening to music it will still keep playing and the volume and other buttons continue to work.
When that happens I hold down the power to turn the phone off and then on and it boots up normally.
Rarely what will happen is the same behavior except the screen will go strangely green after I hit the power button, making the phone unusable until an off/on.
This happens sometimes multiple times a day, sometimes days without happening.
Phone is rooted, running OC5 on Android 5.0. Problem has been happening for months. Haven't made any system upgrades or installed any major apps so that isn't it. I'm thinking it is some kind of loose pin/wire but don't want to crack the phone open without a plan.
Any help appreciated!
