I just got off the phone with tech support and it isn't on their system...of course, it is tech support and usually, they are some of the last people to know. But, considering how hard it is to upgrade to the leaked version, do you think HTC can take on the challenge and make the update fairly pain free?
Given the fact that we were told "Honeycomb would be released soon after launch" ... I'm not holding my breath and it really is unfortunate.
Can't even get ahold of the stock RUU for the US WiFi Flyer due to HTC's lack of updates.
My gut feeling, is they wouldn't have put all the effort into making a working HC ROM, if they weren't going to release it. Remember, the leak was beta. Presumably, it will take some time to go from beta to the release/final version. Maybe we'll see a leak for that. Even then, there is some lag time between when the final version is finished, and it actually starts getting pushed out.

If you're wondering 'why so many steps and why don't we just run the ruu'? There are 2 main reasons - firstly is the fact that you need s-off, which is generally the revolutionary bootloader, which protects itself from being overwritten - a problem as the new bootloader is necessary for HC. The second reason is that flashing RUU or rom.zip updates your misc partition version tag, which can seriously limit your options should something go wrong and / or you need to roll back to Gingerbread.
For the official HC update, it would seem that neither of these issues apply, so the official update process would probably be much easier.
Very unfortunate because the beta HC from HTC is very close but has enough bugs to keep me from using it. No US RUU means you cannot try out the beta and get back to stock and since Google refused to release HC source, not much chance a 3rd party custom ROM will fix problems like camera issues and other things on HC.
My suggestion for everyone to this repeating question, whether they take it is up to the individual, keep bugging @htc and @HTCUSA on twitter (if you have a twitter account)... Or find their facebook page and ask there. Those are usually worked by PR or CS instead of tech support.
Demand usually gets a result.

Now, some web sites are reporting the flyer will not be updated.
I am now approaching my 30 day return window, so my question is, do I need to return my Flyer and buy something like the Samsung?

I am on the edge too about returning my Flyer. Friday is the last day I have to return it back to Best Buy.
I was generally more impressed with how HTC handled updates than Samsung, but seeing how this device has not recieved HC yet, I'm very much doubting that it will ever receive ICS. I am so much more interested in ICS than HC anyways. So I am thinking that I should return the Flyer and buy a newer tablet, Say the soon to be relased Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus which would have a much better chance of seeing an ICS update.
I really love the Flyer, but I am looking towards keeping a tablet for the long term...
The Toshiba Thrive 7 looks promising, but I fear a lack of dev support. Samsung Galaxy Tab 7.0 Plus then???
I'm leery of Samsung since they are being battered by Apple to the point of delaying their Google / Samsung joint next big thing that was scheduled for Oct.11. I don't expect you'll see ICS on a tablet for a long time since Google hasn't even released the Application layer yet and that's the easy part. After that the HW vendors have to do the kernels and drivers and that's what taking so long with HC right now.

Talk to current galaxy tab 7 wifi users about Samsung and their updates. That tablet is a year old and hasn't received gingerbread yet. You'll always be playing that game. Buy a tablet for what it has now, not what It's going to have. Be grateful that we have a stable ROM that works well. Dell Streak owners were pushing for 3.2, now half of them are reporting bugs and others are reverting to froyo. I rather them take the time to get it right. A beta build means they're working on it.

I too like the Flyer but, I think I’ll go with the Lenovo ThinkPad … already has HoneyComb and a much better Notes app.

Yeah.... no, I tried to like the big 10 inch. I had a Asus Transformer which worked great, but no, just couldn't really love lugging a huge slate. I have a laptop which is much more capable for lugging. SO I am really digging the Flyer

But have you actually use it? I haven't tried the flyer..but the Thinkpad tablet I have an eval unit right now in front of me and it's horrible!...main issue I have with it is that it's really sluggish...and big!...also, palm rejection probably works like 70% of the time..so as I take some notes..I get specks of dots/lines around where my palm is...
I'm not impressed by the stylus pen so far. Maybe it is much better like they say in HC, but I haven't used it yet, so that was a waste of money.
The Flyer itself is awesome. Good hardware, quality build, great HTC Sense overlay on top of GB. I do like it.
I was unaware that Samsung hadn't released an update for the wifi tab after so long. That is discouraging. But I would really like a device that will see ICS.
If the flyer was dual core and or had a slightly higher resolution screen, I'd definately keep it. But right now I'm still debating.

I only really have two complaints about the GB Flyer vs. HC. other than the pen.
1. The Sense widgets are huge on GB and the screen grid layout is sized for a phone, not a table. HC looks so much better.
2. The browser in HC seamlessly syncs bookmarks with desktop Chrome and other settings automatically are backed up in a much better fashion than GB.

I really doubt that HTC will update Flyer. I sent email to them asking about that. Their answer is not satisfying me. They say that I should wait, if there is update I will get a notification. That is really a bad answer !!!
The reason I bought Flyer is for Magic stylus. But, I am really dissapointed. There is no handwriting recognition. I may not need update, but surely I need apps that can maximize the use of stylus....

That happens sometimes with the Flyer too. They're both based on the same technology, but Lenovo's has handwriting recognition.
I do love the 7 inch form factor but, man, the Lenovo tablets are looking really attractive right now, especially with both a stylus and a keyboard.

Sorry for the little bit off-topic.
Samsung did upgrade my ex-galaxy tab 7 with GB 3 months ago. After the upgrade, things were smoothly but the chip is still 1G.. playing HD games were still slow. Anyways, I already sold it and bought the 10.1 and it was much faster... and nicer but too big for me.. and I sold it too after I saw a price drop for the flyer.
I am thinking to get the flyer since I really enjoy smaller tablet. 10.1 was nice but too big for me and my kids. I am thinking
1) flyer
2) galaxy tab 7+ (good size dual-core, HC ready and possible ICS in the future)
3) galaxy tab 8.9 (my prefer - I have tried it @best buy, really love the size HC + touchwiz was cool)
may I ask someone who have the flyer
1) do you see/feel any slowness playing games? since it is single-core. my ex-tab 7 was slow sometime.. but my 10.1 was so smooth.
2) how is the pen? my sons like to draw, is it worth to pay 80 bucks to get the pen?

Ok so I can get a discount on a few different Tablets and I am wondering which is the best bang for the buck? All these are new in box devices and the 3G model of all not the Wifi only versions.

Thanks man I appreciate the opinion. I was leaning toward the 7plus if I didn't get the Flyer. Then the G-Slate became avalible so now I'm torn again. So far Im thinking Flyer, 7plus, G-slate.
Who jumped ship from the infuse? I did today picked up the note and it does take some getting used too. I do like it though.

My brother-in-law has the Infuse and was always bragging about his Infuse was bigger than my Atrix. Now he rarely takes it out while I'm showing off the Note he's now currently finding a way to get an early upgrade to get the Note.
I did also. Larger screen is great.

I too now have the Note. I still have my Infuse..it has been an awesome phone and i had tons of fun with custom ROMS. Looking very forward to what's coming in Dev for thsi beast.
I will be upgrading to the Note by Summer at the latest. I cannot wait. The Infuse has decent dev support, but the forums are filled with a bunch of jackasses. I got the Infuse when it was a top of the line device for ATT, before the SGS2 was released, and had high hopes for it, as it had the best screen on the market at the time and was a super solid device. However, I have a feeling that after the SGS2 was released that the Infuse was only bought by people that aren't serious about android, because it was discounted heavily for a fairly new device. That led to the forums flooding with inconsiderate n00bs that drove many great devs off of the Infuse. I have been waiting for something great to come along, and the Note is my golden ticket.
I was also wanting to get a tablet, but the Note seems to fill my want/need for both a tablet and a new phone perfectly. In my eyes, the Note is the future of mobile devices. It is basically the largest pocketable device possible, and the S Pen gives it added functionality that puts it on par with the larger screens of many tablets. The HD screen, coupled with its dual core processor and all other specs make it seem as though it will be a fairly future proof device. I don't think that many other devices of similar form factor will be released, and the size of the screen is perfect in my eyes. I see the Note as the first device that I will actually be happy with for a full two years, unless a Note 2 is released within that two years.
I jumped over to the Note on release day. My girlfriends teenage son got my Infuse ane couldn't be happier as he was a windows phone fan before the Infuse was handed down. I'm pretty pleased with the Note, myself. Looking forward to great dev support, ICS down the road (hopefully not too far) and fewer of the afore mention douche nozzles.

I agree that there are quite a few rude people on the infuse forums!! Everyone has been really nice on the note forums so far.
I switched from the Infuse to the Note yesterday. My Infuse battery was giving me about 3-4 hours and I was having to charge it incessantly - driving me crazy. Picked the Note because it was the newest, got generally good reviews, gets ICS soon. I was worried about the size, but it took me about 15 minutes to get used to it. Doesn't seem hard to use as many have said, and I have normal sized hands.
Compared to the Infuse the screen is way better, it is faster to use and so far the battery life is much longer. I rooted it the Mashi way, but will steer clear of custom ROMS for the time being.

Hey rocket! In case you didn't notice I'm now rocking the Note! Haha. Skyrocket wasn't working for me. After my coworker got the note and i messed with it I was like disgusted by my phone ( skyrocket ). Seriously couldn't even look at it without thinking about how much better the note prob was. Lol. Anyway. Great device. Now just need dman working on a noteworthy Zeus release right?

Not necessarily true. I got my Infuse for a penny. I am very serious about android, Just cheap! I broke down and got the Note so I could read the screen without reading glasses. Getting older sucks!! We are not all college age party-ers- But to those of you who are, have fun now before the real world comes crashing in on you! LOL The good ole days!!!

I wasn't saying that was true of everybody that bought it discounted. All I was saying is that a lot of people that aren't very serious about android bought it once the SGS2 was out because it was cheaper.

No problem! Just sharing! I fell onto android by accident 3 years ago hacking a reader and have been moving up to bigger and better toys since.LOL But I still love my bargains whenever I can snag them!!!!!!!

Yeah, the Infuse is definitely worth the penny. I'm hoping to either snag the $150 off on the Note or that it at least is discounted by the time I get it. I got my Infuse shortly after its launch for $200, but my parents paid for it for my early birthday present. My dad is allowing me to use his upgrade for the Note, but I have to pay half and I hope I can get some sort of deal to make it less than $150 out of my pocket.

I had the infuse then I made the mistake of upgrading to the thrill and selling the infuse. I had to snag note...I love everything about this phone.
this phone is what you get when a skyrocket and galaxy tab get together and make babies - galaxy note!

Get the Galaxy Note on Amazon.com, its $249.99 for existing customers on individual or family plans. Amazon always has AT&T devices cheaper than anywhere else without tryin to rip people off and make them get certain plans.
I currently have the Infuse and when I am eligible for an upgrade on March 18th I will be getting the Note. I do have a pass for an early upgrade from an AT&T store this week but I would lose the $50 gift card that Best Buy recently offered. Not a huge difference but if I am not so fortunate to get the $150 back that many others got, I would like at least some money off the top. Especially since I will not have sold my Infuse yet.
Now I just need to convince myself that I do want to wait three more weeks (I am not so sure ).

So basically tomorrow is my birthday and my parents would be getting me something. I was thinking of a new gadget.
I currently have the Google Nexus S
So for mobile device I've got the Galaxy Nexus in mind, or the HTC one X.
But lately I've been thinking about tablets. I do not mind getting a tablet to pair with my Nexus S. I was thinking about the kindle fire, but I do not know how to get it in Singapore. Or the Asus Transformer, but im unsure of it because of the price.
So can you recommend me a tablet that lies with the price range below 350-400USD or $500 SGD. ?
So what do you think? And or is the galaxy nexus upgrade a better choice? Please help in advising me. I'm in a dilemma.

If I were in you I would only think about the Samsung Galaxy S2 (i9100) or the Samsung Galaxy Note.
The S2 is very well supported by a wide community of modders, has got a marvelous screen, and great hardware.
The Note is bigger but still smaller than a tablet, and gives you the possibility to use a very sensitive stylus.
Have a look at the size, and have your choice. If my S2 breaks I will buy a Note.
HTC One X has a Tegra 3 chip, currently the most powerful SoC solution. So I would suggest going for it - it wil be powerful even after 2 years.

I got the S2 but i would rather want the Samsung Galaxy Nexus cuz it's more "Google" if you know what I mean.. cuz i hate the touchwiz, I know you can get a ROM but still.. AND the nexus got the Navigation Bar!
If I were in your place I would have gone for tablet, having two gadgets of different leagues is better than upgrading one.

Getting a new device is like getting a new pair of shoes. You should get the one that fits you comfortably. Here's a short list of what I'd get if I were to buy a phone (depending on need/want):
*available phones only
-Xperia S: Camera monster and cheaper than the OneX, at Par with SGS2's performance
-OneX: future proof (probably good for the next 2-3 years), powerful GPU
-Samsung Galaxy Nexus: timely updates (that's it)
-Samsung Galaxy S2: wide dev support, probably still good for the next year or so (but the resolution is too low IMO)
-OneS: beats the OneX in some benchmarks (in their native resolutions), IMO S4 chip is better than the 4-PLUS-1 A9 tegra 3, more affordable too.
IF you're going for a TAB and you can't afford a Transformer Prime don't settle for the Nook or a Fire. I suggest you get a Motorolla XOOM. It's tegra 2 powered and has an HD screen (1280x800) compared to the 1024x600 of the Nook and Fire, and it has a very wide dev support.
I suggest you go for a TAB and don't upgrade your phone. That way you'll have your Nexus S (which can still run almost every app on the Play Store) and have the XOOM for your multimedia satisfaction

We have a number of tablets here where I work, and the one that I like the most is defiantly the Asus transformer. But that being said I agree with the last guy the XOOM is a good one and also is most acers. But price aside I would say the Transformer Prime would be a fine choice!

IF you're going for a TAB and you can't afford a Transformer Prime don't settle for the Nook or a Fire. I suggest you get a Motorolla XOOM. It's tegra 2 powered and has an HD screen (1280x800) compared to the 1024x600 of the Nook and Fire, and it has a very wide dev support.
I suggest you go for a TAB and don't upgrade your phone. That way you'll have your Nexus S (which can still run almost every app on the Play Store) and have the XOOM for your multimedia satisfaction

I've ruled out tablets for now.. this is due to the reason that I wouldn't bring it outside of the home anywhere with me unless I'm going overseas on holiday. This is due to school and lack of time..
So now you've narrowed me down to 2 devices which I had my eyes on. The One X and the Galaxy Nexus. Looking at the One X's development section it Loos empty. That's probably due to cwm being recently released for it. So in the 5days room I've got (parents waiting for a $150 voucher, phone costs $400) I will check the development section of the One X.
Now I wonder, which roms do you think will come to the one X? Aokp? Cm9? These are some basic concerns I have.. looks like I might have to actually go with the One X. How about MIUI on the One X?
Something that bothers me is the One X has a very different look from the Nexus. Minimalistic stuff on the launcher would be pretty difficult to achieve.. so any screenshots of cool designs done on the One X?

It's kind of hard to recommend a phone better than the Galaxy Nexus in it's price range. However I have 2 options I'd consider:
Xperia S:

Both these devices are significantly more affordable than the Galaxy Nexus and both has the same, or even better, performance.
Personally, I can afford the OneX but I'll be getting the Xperia S. IMO (benchmarks aside) there is nothing the OneX can do that the Xperia S can't, at least for the next year or so. And in two years time I'll probably be changing phones again, so I'll go with the Xperia S for now.

I'm strongly considering getting one of the above, once the second one is available. The fact that the noteay have a stronger processor is a plus.
What should I be looking out for in these devices? What are niggles that would prompt me to check and potentially need to replace if found? Software bugs? Construction quality?
Overall use is going to be internet, everyday calendar, notes etc.

If you're price conscious then the original tab is a great buy. Also consider that accessories for the 10.1 Note will be at a premium while a ton of stuff for the original tab are on clearance.
Wait for the note... The pen is surprisingly great (on the note 5.3 anyway), and the faster processor will be a nice upgrade, because the Tegra 2 in the original 10.1 tab isn't great... Very laggy... Yes it's better with cm9, but still not that good.
I have a gt-p7510 Galaxy tab 10.1 and I like it, but if I didn't already have it, I would definitely wait for the note 10.1.

I too hate the lag and on video reviews of the note I thought it was very slow so good thing they are improving the processor.
I always wondered if you could use a stylus on the original tab. What is the upgrade that makes the note souh better with the stylus from the tab?

If you're planning to use it for note-taking, the note 10.1 is an easy choice. For everything else, you'll want to consider whether the faster processor is worth the price difference.
I would also wait on the note, even though it won't be out for a good while. I got the galaxy tab 10.1 a few weeks ago and am loving it so far. But this won't stop me from getting the note 10.1 the moment it becomes available (will have to sell this tab then lol). The biggest thing, for me personally, is the pen; stylus functionality isn't the best thing in the world when it comes to the original tab 10.1 even though it may be functional. But thats all it is, functional, not amazing or practical when it comes to taking notes (student's perspective). Of course the processor bump just makes it sweeter, I'm just hoping the price isn't too steep.
Would the Note have the same touch capability as the Tab if not using the pen? If so, then it was be a great plus!

Yes the stylus isn't required. The touch capability would be the same as the current tab, if anything better (highly unlikely) when it comes to using your fingers. The stylus just adds the extra dimension of certain apps that take advantage of that, such as iAnnotate PDF, Zenbrush, etc. And lets not forget the superb precision the pen will bring when it comes to drawing and taking notes. If Samsung puts in an AMOLED HD screen (Ok I'm seriously asking for too much with this suggestion) this tablet will be beyond perfect, IMO.
If price isn't a concern, I'd say wait for the Note. Why buy last year's model when the new one is right around the corner? The processor bump will probably be enough to justify the price difference, but I'm happy enough with my Tab to sit this round out.

The hardware is good, there is no denying of that of course, and if you can mod it you can get pretty good results (I am happy with the latest ROM I installed, Overcome + pershoot kernel).
Although samsung seems to be delaying ics upgrade in favor of new hardware and in my case in Spain I haven't received a single update to my 3g from stock HC 3.1, and stock is everything but functional after little use, not to mention no launcher hw acceleration so when you have a few icons, dragging them around can be infuriating, of course forget about live wallpapers, screen not refreshing certain elements after a while, reboots, and similar utter failure.
From what I am reading Asus is giving better support and motorola xoom already has ICS.
I even have a college at work who is talking wonders about a chinese tab (Onda?) which is much cheaper and already working with ICS.
I suggest you consider the manufacturer.
So here it is June. Any rumored dates for the Galaxy Note 10.1?
And will that justify a new forum, or will we continue with this one?

I don't have any of those problems with my Galaxy Tab 10.1. Dragging icons is fine, live wallpapers work fine, everything refreshes as it should, and I've not had any spontaneous reboots. I'm not rooted and everything seems zippy and smooth. Best tablet I've had so far. I'd like ICS but I'm willing to be patient. I'm sure they have their hands full making sure it's stable and working properly with Touchwiz. Anyone waiting for it through a carrier should be angry with them, not Samsung. The carriers are the ones responsible for pushing the update and most of them drag their feet for some reason.

Agree with this and i got no carrier limitations since i got international sim unlocked Tab and they cant prevent My upgrades

Untrue. LG and Motorola have been far worse. Again, any carrier locked device is at the mercy of the carrier, not Samsung. Samsung may very well have pushed the ICS update to all the major carriers but they haven't pushed it out to their customers yet. Probably because they want to shove all their own UIs and bloatware on it first.
I would be getting the tab sim free and adding a sim to it later on. I much rather not have a locked device if I can buy it depending on price. So I presume updating wont be an issue.
Still no word from samsung though about the release dates
