ok ive been running meanrom for a whle now. on version 1.91 as soon as i installed it i could overclock no problem. now im on v1.93 and i cant. where do i need to put the rom zip file in twrp in order to make my phone overclock. i know from root explore that the rom was on the external sd card whev i downloaded v1.91. well now i reverted back to v1.91 and my phone wont overclock again. this has been a random problem as i uograde the rom as mikey creates it . i have v1.91 on the internal sd card now and i have it on my pc. also the meanrom ics folder is embedded in the rom zip file. isee that in root explorer also. this never happens when im on wifi and just download rom to the phone. but the overclocking comes and goes as i upgrade with meanrom. my evo is so much faster when i can oc to 1.782. thanx if anyone can help
u have to flash the oc zip that in the mean rom folder.. when u flash mean rom there's a folder that go's on your sdcard.. there is a zip in the folder to overclock.. the folder should be in sdcrad not sdcard 2..

its on the internal SD now, not External... i had to locate it last night
Why don't you just use root explorer and go to system/etc and find the init.qcom.post_boot.sh file and long press it and select edit in text editor. From there you will see Mikey's instructions on setting 15 different overclock settings. Enter the level you want, save it and reboot.

Ok i found a way to get to the files thru twrp. if anyone else has this problem heres how i solved it. i went to the meanrom zip file for the rom and extracted it in root explorer THE ENTIRE ROM ZIP FILE. then it said it was extracting the files to sd card speed software. so that is on the internal sd card. so heres how i got to all the zip[ file options for meanrom ics. speedsoftware-sd card- meanrom- then there the zip files were. i instaleed rosie 4x5 land 360..worked fine..and remapped the right to menu..worked fine. and of course overclock which my phone still will not. i also went to root explore and changed the overclock to 10 but it still wont stick. my benchmark tests say its not sticking also. so if anyone else has any suggestions id appreciate it. also if anyone understands what i described above about the zip files and what i did is a bad thing then please comment. also it did not extract the rom file from where it was located nor did it make it not useable. i flashed the rom again to see if i could get the overclock to work. does anyone know why my phone isnt separating the zip files form the rom? it always has before. but ever since v1.91 of meanrom it hasnt. do i need ti fix permissions in advanced menu of twrp or something like that? also when i flash the rom it says that its copying the files to the sd card meanrom ics without any errors showing up. thanks to those who did comment. if ANYONE who has had any issues with gettin meanrom to overclock know any tricks to get it to stick please respond.

Will this method work if you get a different device? Say downgrading from a Vibrant to a MT4G?

From rommanager flash clock work recovery then boot into recovery and find the zip and flash
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
Yes rename the zip file to update.zip but that should have already been done when you rooted your phone.
^ no. you never rename a rom.
Flash cwr
Reboot into cwr
Install zip from sd
Check out the noob guide (signature) for much more detail and steps.
You can do it from rom manager, but cwr still needs to be flashed.
Been using Franco's Rom and Kernel and it's been great. However, I like to update to his v.14 kernel. I did the format
1. Wipe
2. Partition, etc...
3. Load v5 Rom
4. Restart
My problem is right here, the warning is to delete the tweaks file and the script file (which I don't have one) in File Manager. I use the OI manager that comes with v5 Rom but it just wont' delete, and I don't want to load the new kernel because of all the warnings, please help :-(...

it wont delete cause of permissions. I use root explorer for this kind of work. In this particular case i had deleted the nececary scrips from the flash zip and i flashed afterwards. (i had a clean install)
I am trying the clean install as well, can you give the instructions or point me to somewhere where I can read more about this, thanks for your time and effort.
Do I just delete it in the Devoid.Franco v5 zip before flashing and then restart the process (the only file that I can find is tweaks.sh)
Sorry, found the init.d file as well. Would I delete those files in the zip, rezip and then start the process over?
you just delete them from the zip and you flash it as usuall. just dont forget to disable verification check on your recovery or else it will give you error
Sorry, just a newb when it comes to this.
I couldn't delete the two files from the devoid.franco.v5.zip file so I did the following:
1. Extract the zip file
2. Deleted the two files
3. Rezipped the files into a new devoid.franco.v5.zip
4. Load the zip into the micro sd card after all the wipe and partition
5. Disabled Signature check
6. Tried the flash and it said it can't open the zip because it's bad :-(...
This can't be that hard when all the other kernels was easy to install...

Extracting a zip and re-zipping it DOESN'T work. You are not supposed to unzip the file. Just flash the rom, delete the offending files using root explorer, and then flash the kernel.
Sent from my LG Optimus One P500 using XDA App
You should't extract the file and rezip it. It corrupts it when it comes to flashing. I personally browse the zip file with winrar and simple delete the files i need. I also add files to zip this way like apks, ringtones etc
Trying winrar and it seems to work, gone to see if I can finish the entire process. Thanks so much for your time again. In the future, can I send the apps that I want directly into this zip? I can to sue something zipsigner before to get calendar, etc... Thanks again!!!
An alternative way for a clean install:
1: wipe everything
2: flash devoid.franco.v5
3: reboot (to check if everything is ok)
4: reboot into recovery
5: mount /system partition under 'mounts and storage' (clockworkmod)
6: from pc type (with phone still in recovery): 'adb shell'
7: in adb shell, type: 'rm /system/etc/tweaks.sh'
8: in adb shell, type: 'rm /system/etc/init.d/00script'
9: flash franco.kernel.v14
10: reboot
I Hope it helps,
Bye
You're welcome m8.
And yes you can have the apps you want inside the rom this way very easilly. just put them in app folder. I did this with some removed apps like browser and calendar and also removed zeam launcher and used adw launcher (personal taste) I even tried that with frameworks (aka themes) and it worked great
Thanks so much to both of your posts, it's working. One last questions, thought setcpu was already implemented in this kernel, but I don't see it anywhere? Again, thanks again for everyone's time and effort, learned so much today (wife is mad though because we need to do house work, lol, lol, better get going)... She said, "who formats their phone 5 times in 1 month, lol, lol"
setcpu is NOT included, you have to install it.
See first post in franco.kernel thread for the link.
Eh! eh! you are not in Europe, I guess if you have to help your wife NOW!!!
Barcelona-ManchesterUTD right NOW...
oh yes the wifes. my gf gets fustrated like "wtf are roms and kernels?? its just a phone!!! you call people and they call you back" rofl
One last note on setcpu. When i was using last version (2.13), every time i rebooted my phone the settings where gone and had to set them again. I switched to v2.1 and it worked like a charm. Have no idea if that is general issue or only me had it. Just thought i should tell you
Done via editing the zip with rar and all worked smoothly.
Thx all

I posted this on the fool proof thread for going from 3588 to 4349. Having troubles and looking for help.
NVFlash confuses me.
I basically just want to install a good 1.2 based ROM and stick with it. Have no intention of going back top 3588.
How do i make it so that if i ever do brick the device or have a need to go back, it just starts as if 4349 is my starting point?
My problems using the foolproof method is that the external SD card i purchased an loaded the necessary files to was not recognized when i followed the choose sdcard/update from sdcard instruction. I am thinking it might be looking for internal SD card as i definitely put the files on it and partioned per intructions...
Anyway, did work or i messed up somehow - looking for alternatives.
Thanks
Okay...I located the file from one of Robeet's threads.
New/additional question to any who view and have know-how/skills:
In his thread he mentions to flash to 4349 DO NOT use CWM. Well, that was teh first thing i did - install CWM.
How do i go about uninstalling?
I also noticed mybe some of my earlier troubles were in that my command file was created in notepad (he warns against file extensions).

You can still use CWM to flash the stock firmware from teh source he provides. Let me guess, his file is a rar file, when unzipped, you are left with a file called "update.zip" and a folder called "recovery" with a command file in it.
What this is, is the format used to flash something using stock recovery. If you do not have CWM, you'd turn on your tablet, holding +, and it will "see" the recovery file, which will let it know to run the update.zip file.
Since you HAVE CWM, all you need to do is "install zip from SD" and install the update.zip file, just like you would any other rom.
to keep it organized, I suggest you rename it 4349.zip, or stockfirmware.zip, etc.
but yeah, it's completely possible to do it through CWM
as for the "command" file, yes, if it's created in notepad on a windows machine, it will be command.txt. you can't have the .txt part. I use notepad++ to creat files without extensions. You can also do it on the tablet using ES file explorer, root explorer, etc...
Thanks so much for replying!!
Let me ask you or anyone else who knows - When you write "install zip from SD" are you referring to the external or internal?
One more possibly one of the silliest questions that can be asked: How do you move files from one drive to another on this device? I was toying around last night with teh file explorer program and honestlt could not figure it out. I do not use a mouse or anything - normally i would cut/copy and paste teh file to desired location.
Please Help. Thanks again!
SD is generally the internal, MICROSD or SDCARD2 is the external.
Re: The windows notepad. If you want to save a file without the .txt extension or to change the extension simply Save As and put quotes around the name.
I'm having an issue flashing a ROM via the sdcard zip file option.
I have (afaik) successfully installed CWM. Had an issue at first with it rebooting every 30 secs but reflashed the kernel and now it seems to work ok. However, when I try to flash a rom and go to the sdcard zip file option, it'll list several folders but not the ROM I want to flash. I have put the ROM on the sdcard in no folders (root folder) and am really at a loss.
I apologize in advance for any n00bish ways. I went through 2 cycles on iOS devices and decide to forgo the jailbreak cat and mouse chase and go android. I haven't regretted it yet. But I could really you some advice on this problem. Really looking forward to getting my phone rooted.
Much Love in Advance

All I know to say is if you put a .zip file on the sdcard you should be able to see it from cwm recovery. When you boot the phone normally can you see the file in file manager?
Which ROM are you trying?
And are you putting the file on the phones internal sdcard or an external sdcard?

I was trying the unnamed ROM -- I just have it on the sdcard in the phone. I see it fine when I plug it in and look at it through windows. What file manager are you referring to?
I have to go to work but later on tonight I'll probably try reflashing CWM and see if that helps.

Any file manager will do, there its one app named "My Files" that came with the phone. If you can see the file from that file manager you should be able to see it in cwm recovery.

I found it. Apparently, what appears to be the main folder in windows is actually the /externalsd folder. Found it in the stock file manager and was able to copy over the file and get it rooted. Thanks for your help!

TO DO THIS YOU MUST BE ROOTED
If you guys haven't noticed you can't copy a file from internal sd to external sd (confirmed by me and others) Well I figured it out.
I remember something about OTG not being able to read from external on apps like Tibu with other devices. I did something similar to get it to work on the ZU GPE.
If you are rooted you can copy this file to /etc/permissions/
I tested copying a file from internal to external and it worked fine after this change.
I did make a couple changes to the file, I'm not sure which did it but one of them did. I am attaching the file
Just rename from platform.xml.zip to platform.xml, back up existing file(the attached file is NOT a zip.. it's a XML file just remove .zip from the end of the filename), copy new file and change permissions to match the old file
The zip file is corrupted.

Rename the platform.xml.zip to platform.xml
Set the permission as same as old file (rw-r--r--)
