If I wanted to add a sound to the system boot how would I go about it? I installed an animation from rom toolbox and would like to add the Droid sound. Thanks.

If you already have the .ogg sound file you want to put in there then you put it in /system/media/audio/notifications IIRC.
I put it in there but what is IIRC ?

IIRC= if I recall correctly

On peetr's 2.3.5 rom the boot sound is in system /media and it's in mp3 format. It's named Android audio.mp3.

Where the sound file goes varies based on the version/ROM you are running...
For Stock (and apparently Mof2.3.5ish) it does go in system/media/audio/notifications, but you also need a pointer to it in the desc.txt file in the bootanimation.zip (see example here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=20558458&postcount=18 )
As was mentioned above, on peetr's 2.3.5 rom its all in system/media...
I'm using aokp and I can't get the sound running.
Also it states that the example you posted didn't work correctly.
Sent from my MB855 using xda premium
The sample in the above link was for stock (and happens to work on Mof2.3.5ish)...don't know how AOKP differs. I looked in the zip for AOKP and the boot ani that comes with it gives no indication of if you can do boot sounds or where they might go if you could.
Might ask in that thread (if you haven't already)...sorry I could not help.

If you are running AOKP Milestone 6, in ROM Control under General Settings, you'll see an option that's probably greyed out that tells you where the boot animation sound goes.
For ICS, boot animation sounds only need to go in /system/media folder. BUT, like mentioned above, you'll still need a new line in the 'desc.txt' file of the boot animation zip to tell it to play the sound file
Sent from my MB855 using Tapatalk 2
Which is where the question comes in. What exactly is the line of text I need.
Life is like AIDS, sexually transmitted, incurable, and ultimately leads to death
Here is an example:
480 800 15 (resolution and framerate of animation - 480x800, 15 fps)
p 1 0 part1 (play part1 once)
s bootsound1.mp3 (play sound file - name not important but must match actual file)
p 1 0 part2 (play part2 once)
s bootsound2.mp3 (play second sound file)
p 0 0 part3 (play part3 of animation repeatedly)
s bootsound3.mp3 (play third sound file)
- the parts in parentheses are not included in desc.txt file (notes only)
- edit/create desc.txt in notepad++ (or similar) or the formatting will be wrong - don't use microsoft notepad
- in this example, the sound files are played at the end of the first pass through the section of the animation in line above each (only important on sections played in loops like part3 above)

Just place this file in data/local, system/media, or system/customize/resource
If your bootanimation has a name with it rename it to match but most bootanimation are bootanimation.zip
I'll post what my screen looks like so u can get a idea:

Works nice on my phone in the System/Media folder with Entropy's Latest Daily Kernel. Thanks for this little additional Gem CharlieB!
Do I need to change the permissions to match yours also
Which folder and what to
rename it?
Seems that the three aforementioned folders don't apply to Cog Beta 4. I looked in all three, but there was no file named bootanimation.zip. I did a search for 'bootanimation' and the only file that showed up was a file named 'bootanimation' in system/bin, with no zip suffix.
There was a file in system/media called ODEAnim.zip (it was the only zip file in there), and I tried replacing that with the one I downloaded, but it didn't work.
Anyone know where I should put this thing?

no idea what do do exactly, but I can confirm for you that I've had the exact same problem...
I'm guessing it has to do with designgears taking out the traditional bootanimation?

If you're using Entrophy's latest kernel and/or Cognition, throw it in /system/media/ and make sure it's STILL named "bootanimation.zip" . Change the permissions if you want, but it's really not necessary. If you're running rooted stock, then it will not work as you need boot animation support at the kernel level to use them. Flash Entrophy's kernel or Cog.
So this boot animation is not possible without root then? I would love to root but i have yet to find any information that explains rooting in terms i can understand, right now its still just a bunch of random abbreviations to me.

I edited this boot animation for my Bionic, but I believe the Razr and Bionic have the same screen resolution so I thought I'd post this boot animation here too. Head over to my original post for more details here

Credit to user fluxgfx for posting this sweet boot animation in the first place here and to user mtemal who posted some videos of his tweaks of this boot animation here.
Final note: there is a part of the animation that says bionic but it is very easy to remove those frames from the animation.

If you are rooted you can install your own boot animation. You can either push the bootanimation.zip file into the correct location with an ADB or you can keep it simple like me and use a file manager to locate and replace the original file. I use Root Explorer. Additionally you can extract your original boot animation before you replace it if you want to save it for later. I'm not on stock ROM but I believe folder location doesn't change. Try looking in: /system/media

Installation Instuctions:
1. Download sanim.zip to a directory on your sd card
2. Using root explorer or another root file explorer, place the sanim.zip file in /system/media/
3. Reboot, and enjoy this delicious boot animation!
I take no credit for creating or modifying this boot animation.
Hmmm, doesn't seem to work for me.
If you rooted using Da_G's Pre Rooted kernal, then make sure it looks exactly as it does in this picture. And try setting permissions to rw-r-r. If you rooted using a different method, maybe try naming it "bootanimation.zip". Hope you get it working.

For those who can't get it to work, what ROMs are you running?
Stock using Mashi's rooting method. Set permissions and didn't seem to do anything using either file name.
I believe that the problem is because you didn't use Da_G's Pre rooted kernel. If I remember correctly, custom boot animations need be be enabled at the kernel level, which is what Da_G has done with his rooting method.

If anyone is interested, here are the boot/shutdown animations from the OG JB ROM. Just copy and paste them into /system/media. (I'm pretty sure you have to be rooted)
The shutdown animation is first in the video just fyi.
I increased the speed to 30fps as the original 12fps was a little too slow for my taste but you can change it to whatever you like. To do this just change the "30" to something else in the desc.txt file. I'm not sure if there are minimum or maximum values.
768 1280 30p 1 0 part0p 0 0 part1

I use WinRAR so I don't even have to extract the files to change the speed. Just double click desc.txt, edit the above text, then save it. WinRAR will prompt you to save the modified file.

Hi,
Nice work @johnbyebye
I have changed my Boot animation but not able to find the shutdown animation to replace it.
I am on PAC ROM.
I have changed the Power On Animation by replacing the file in "/system/media/bootanimation.zip".
I can not find the Shutdown.zip to be replaced. There is no such file in "/system/media/" nor there is any other directories under other than "/system/media/audio"
Thanks.

The speed is already 5fps, if you still want to slow it down you can do on your own, it is very easy...
1. Open this zip in a zip viewer (7-Zip is highly recommended, very small application, google it). Don't extract it!
2. Open file desc.txt. you will see this:
Code:
720 1280 [B]5[/B]
p 1 0 part0
p 1 0 part1
p 0 0 part2
3. The first line shows the screen resolution and speed: width(pixels) length(pixels) speed(fps)
Just change this "5" to any lower value to slow down speed of bootanimation. 2 to 3 fps would be good enough.
Note: This speed applies to whole boot animation. The last part will also slow down.
