Hello.
I'm on the latest CM7 stable and am not able to delete any files or save any files to SD-ext. The files will show "deleted" or "saved", but if I reboot, the deleted files will be back or the new files will be gone. I have 1.5GB free on my SD. Any Ideas? Do you think it may be because it's formatted as FAT32 (just noticed that today)?
Thanks!
No one has a clue or any suggestions?

Hey guys
I just wanted to share this, I've been trying all new ics rom but a I always get random reboots all the time, so I research a lot to fix the problem until I got this forum (don't remember) so I read that if you clean your sd card you won't have more reboots so I did it in have two weeks without a reboot.
I had like 300 apps so I think that was the problem I also deleted then in titanium backup try it and good luck. XD

Hmmm.. Did you backup and then restore your SD card, or just wipe and start from scratch?

I'm not sure how formatting the sd card would help run an ics Rom... Especially since you put everything back on to your sd card. Did you do anything else in combination that may have helped?

Hey all, I accidentally deleted the folder .android_secure in mnt/sdcard. I realize that transferring files from my phone to my computer is impossible now. Anyone have any ideas what to do?

format the Sd card... Else try copying the file from backup if u made one.. Then reboot.
.android_secure stores encrypted versions of the apps moved to external SD card. You'll have probably to reinstall some apps. Hopefully the data is intact on the system partition.
Appreciate the help guys! Thanks!

Weird enough suddenly I found all my external SDCard files have all permissions like:
---rwxr-x
Why !?? This happens to every file I copy onto it.
I needed them like:
rwxrwxr-x
so far, the only rough and long way I found is through Aromafilemanager and PhilzTouch recovery.
Yet I have to change the permissions one file at a time.
Can anybody help?
Sounds like a problem unique to you, I've never heard of it.
Flash the official stock rom, format your sd card in your pc using the industry formatting tool and test.
If the problem disappears then it was probably some combination of your individual setup.
Yep. Also ensure you haven't got any scripts running at startup. Sd permissions are set on boot and cannot be changed afterwards

Thank you, I'll surely restart from the beginning and report back

Which script could do that?

Any mods that mount folders or swap storage.
Otherwise, something built into the rom.

@boomboomer
which filesystem do i have to use in formatting extsdcard 8gb via pc? exFAT / FAT32 / EXT4 / NTFS ?
moreover, in this post and following on dev rom thread, it seems it's a normal behaviour... am i missing sth?
https://www.sdcard.org/downloads/formatter_4
Fat32 is the normal filesytem.
If it's common to your rom then your chef is the best one to approach, he may have set a script or mod.

I read through about 7 pages of sd card issues on the s3 and thought i cant read anymore, so i thought i would just ask. I've just bought an s3 and i got my 64gb sd card from my old phone to my new one. Problem is i have data from other games in the SD and titanium back up files in the externel sd card. Seems the S3 has its own built in SD card and only reads from that. I copied my TB files from externel to the internel. Now the games still require Extra files although they are in the externel SD. So how in the world do i get it to read my Externel sd instead of my internel? I thought of copying the files but i have 16 gb internel, 64 externel so its not gonna work considering i have 39 gb left in my 64 gb one,
Previously I had Samsung's official firmware, I rooted a phone and flashed CM10.2. I wanted to delete everything I had on internal storage, but it showed me like it is already empty, despite I had only 2 gb left on internal storage. I went to "Device: mnt/shell/emulated folder and I found there all files I previously had on internal storage, including photos, music, app data etc. Can I delete those files in that folder (except sub folder 0, which is mirror for current internal storage)?
Thanx
No you cannot delete your internal /sdcard
Read stickies in general. The one about 4.2 and /sdcard

Thanx for answer.
I deleted android/data, DCIM and all music under mnt/shell/emulated folder. Now I have 6 gb free on internal storage and I didnt erased any system files. For example, there were files for Real racing 3 (in mnt/shell/emulated/android/data folder), which I had installed on 4.1.2. It took a lot of space.
So far everything works OK, I hope it will stay in that way

Now I did - it is hard to search on a phone, but I found it. You explained very nice everything there, thanx. Luckily, I kept folders 0, obb and legacy untouched, so I guess I didn't do any damage? I also didnt restore from a Titanium backup when I installed CM10.2, but I installed everything from a scratch. Because of that, can I erase all folders except 0, obb, legacy and clockwork mod?
Thanx

So I accidently did a TWRP backup to internal storage. According to setting then storage I have 5gb of misc being used. But for the life of my I can't the backup to delete it. internal sd card then twrp only has a 7kb size file. I even went to twrp and cleared internal storage. under storage I still have 5gb plus of files using up my space. any suggestions?

If you haven't renamed anything, it should simply be on the root of your internal sd card. Try searching for 'twrp' while you are on your internal with ES.

I have used root explorer and there is nothing on the internal card that is visible. the os still thinks I have 5gb of misc files there. but I find only a couple megs.

Are you on 4.1.2 or 4.3? And if you're on 4.3, did you wipe internal memory when upgrading?

Yes I am using 4.3. I did wipe internal card but the 5gb of misc is still present.

Hmm, seems odd that a reformat of the internal sd card wouldn't take care of that. Personally I'd probably back up to external card and format internal again, possibly with a different recovery if twrp is still causing issues for you.

if I click on the 5gb misc section only some folders with kb of info I just recleared internal storagr again. and it is still the same.
Pretty sure you're OK after looking at that. Miscellaneous files include all system and app data once uncompressed. Mine is also in the mid 5.5 gb range.
Edit: if anyone else wants to weigh in that would be helpful to get another person's sd card size for misc.
