Phone powered off and had to battery pull to get working? - Motorola Droid X2

Hey, my X2 was sitting idle and shut itself off while I wasn't paying attention. The power key no longer did anything and I had to do a battery pull to be able to turn the phone back on. Has anyone experienced anything similar and if so what was the cause? Thanks.

It is very common, probably a kernel crash. As long as it reboots you are OK.

Great, thanks. As long as its semi common it's all good.

Battery

I just uploaded a new rom and a kernel, and now I am having problems with my phone holding a charge. Anyone got any suggestions as to what I should do.

You know I never really got what the term "charge cycle " is, what os it? Is it when you recondition turn battery 3 times or what?

Go into recovery mode and in the menu there is an advanced go in then and wipe stats or you can get an app that does the same thing. Either do that. Then, drain the battery 'til dead (run a movie). Then fully charge That is a complete charge cycle. That will recondition it that is all you really need. Then also maybe get a task manager or something similar to be able and check and make sure there are not things running in the background check.
If the battery then is not holding a charge after this then..maybe the battery needs replacing
Charge cycle is from charged to dead to charged.

Hey thanks you all for responding to my thread. I have now just discovered that the phone will not even power up or hold a charge at all. I am thinking its the battery because the bionix rom and the kernal were still working before the phone shutdown. Any thoughts on this new development??

Is my phone bricked?

I was wondering if my phone is bricked. I installed Cyanogenmod nightly 17 after using all the previous nightlies without any mishaps, and it drained my battery to 0% and my phone died. Now when I am plugging it in to try and charge it, the phone won't turn on anymore. I have left it in the charger for about 2 hours already, and still no luck with with powering on the phone.
I have tried to make it to go into download mode by pressing the power and the up + down buttons. Nothing
I also tried doing that without the battery. It would just flash the screen then turn off then flash the screen again in a cycle.
Can someone please point me in the right direction on how to boot my phone up again.
Let it charge overnight and hope for the best.
It'd be very unlikely it's bricked. Possible, but unlikely. A number of not likely things would need to take place all around the same time.

So you would suggest leaving the battery in and charge overnight? because right now if I am doing that, the phone heats up
Some have reported it getting pretty hot while charging. Not that common, but does happen. Some have left the battery case off and pointed a fan at it.
You can also plug it into a computer. Usb ports charge at a lower power and shouldn't cause as much of a heat up.
Just make sure it doesn't get too hot. The phone likely won't get damaged but the battery can die at temperatures over 50 degrees celcius.

Take battery out and place it in freezer to cool off, phone too. Take out the freezer and put battery back in. Reboot. Should come right back on.

Ahh the things freezers can fix. Saved info from a few hard drives.

No problem. Your phone just over heated while shutting down. Happened to me before.

Razr won't come out of sleep mode

I've searched all over, but I can't find the answer. Several times a day I have to use the power/volume down to restart my phone because it won't come out of sleep mode. It doesn't do it every time. I know there are others with this problem, but I haven't been able to find out why it happens or how too prevent it. Please help.

So, I guess it's just not eating right our getting enough exercise?

When mine has been sleep a long time I have to push and hold power to get it to wake up. Try it.

Same, I just have to hold it until it wakes up. See if that works

I've held it for about thirty seconds with no luck. Does it take longer than that? It doesn't matter how long it's been asleep, sometimes I can turn off the screen and immediately try to turn it back on and it won't work.

No not that long. What firmware are you running? Maybe you have a dodgy power button?

Are you using spotify?
That happens to me when that's on in the background every once in a while..
After unrooting, uninstalling every app I had then doing a factory reset and still having the same problem, I finally gave up and took it into the Verizon store. They said there was going to be a software update in mid April that would fix it, or I could get a new phone. My new phone will be here Tuesday.

[Q] Battery Pull And Rooting

Hi guys, I was thinking about changing from a Note 2 to this phone. With rooting though I know a battery pull is sometimes necessary which seems like it would be a problem on the HTC One. Has anyone experienced issues rooting that a battery pull might have fixed? Or maybe there's a work around?
Pushing and holding the power button is the same as pulling the battery.

Thanks for the info, that just hasn't been my experience with other phones. Specifically if the OS is locked up. Would the phone power down in such case, using the method to turn it off as you described?

I have read that yes, it will force the phone to reboot. It certainly works on the s2 and the s3. Never had to pull the battery in either.

I had a freeze while playing with a new ROM and pushing the power button for 10 secs worked just fine. I wasn't even booted into the OS. Don't think it will be much of an issue.
Yes holding the power button worked for me.

holding the power down for 10-15 seconds simulates a batt pull. doesnt matter if your phone is booted or not. its a hardware function built into the phone not software based.

Thanks for the replies, especially this info. Worst case I could always let the battery drain dry. My next task now is getting out of my current contract lol.

I can't soft reset my Note 2?

Every now and then, my screen will freeze up and become unresponsive. Just once in a blue moon. But when it does happen, I have to go through the hassle of taking my case apart to do a battery pull. I searched up a soft reset method, like I would use when my old fascinate or gnex froze so I didn't have to pull the battery.I found that long pressing the power button will perform a soft reset. However, when it froze, it didn't do anything? I had to do a battery pull. When I turned it back on, I pressed the power button for 30+ seconds. It didn't do anything. Is there something I'm doing wrong or what? I'm on CR 3.1 and Saber Kernal if that means anything.
TIA!

You should really look into running a rom that does not freeze up on you.
But anyways it looks like the battery pull is your only option all long as touch screen is unresponsive
Make sure your super user updates or go down a level that solved my oroblem

You cannot really soft reset the Note 2 since you are able to pull out the battery unlike other devices like Droids in which don't have access to battery.
You should get a new rom if you do in fact freeze.

I should, but it doesn't happen often and when it doesn't freeze everythings pretty much perfect. I've been using CR 3.1 since march and everything's set up perfectly.
Well, not 3.1 since march. Just dirty flashed some updates.
