Update firmware. They still come loaded with gb
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2

doesn't need to be updated, just remember to flash an old firmware patch before you boot.

GB ruu it. While they may not notice if it has ics or gb, you're better off being safe than sorry.

You don't 'need' to do anything. However, if it is just out of the box I would recommend this : http://themikmik.com/showthread.php?13780-STEPS-TO-ICS-FIRMWARE-UNLOCK-ROOT-and-S-OFF
The tutorial takes through update of the firmware to unlocking/root to s-off and then whatever you desire after. :good:
At the minimum, I would update the firmware by running the RUU, and then unlocking. Don't unlock first because you'll just have to relock to run the RUU!
As a previous poster commented, you don't have to update the firmware, but I bet you will eventually so get er done now.
There are other tutorials/"all in ones" out there so look and read around.

FWIW, just activated a warranty replacement yesterday. My specific steps were:
1. Unlock bootloader
2. Flash Amon Ra and do nandroid.
3. Flash 3.14.605.10 firmware & ICS leak from bootloader as PH98IMH.ZIP.
4. Run Juopunut's S-OFF
5. Reflash Amon Ra
6. Flash my ROM (see sig).
I also flash Titanium as a zip, and use App2zip. Not everything works when I do things that way, but it takes me most of the way home.

A ROM to perform S-off?

Can someone link me to a Gingerbread stock rom or an ICS ROM I can use to perform S-off? I want to try the all-in-one toolkit for S-off because I always get errors with the other one. Thanks.

You may try RUU at below link ( ICS RUU 3.14.605.10 )

Download it from android police download link on post 4
Use the stock out of the box rom that you unlocked bootloader and flashed su on. You should have backed it up

You can use any ROM to perform S-OFF as far as I know. I didn't make any special considerations as to what ROM I was using when I did it...

Restore Nanroid with different firmware?

First I am S-Off. I was on the old GB firmware and was running CONs ICS ROM using the GB firmware patch. I then made a nandroid backup via Amon Ra. I ran the new ICS RUU to upgrade my firmware. Can I just restore my old CONROM nandroid or will I have to start over? I assume this won't work, but just wanted to ask before I screwed up my phone. Thanks!

S-off allows you to upgrade AND downgrade.. if u were s-on and tried to downgrade, u would brick ur phone. So I don't see why u wouldn't be able to restore ur Backup if ur S-off.

I think it will work fine if I remember back when I did it.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW using Tapatalk 2
You need to reverse the patch you installed to get the SD card to mount, other then that it will work fine.
Check the AndroidFileHost link in this thread - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366
It would be the new firmware patch, flash it right after you restore your rom.
Thanks! Nice to have peice of mind before experimenting

S-off help

Ok So I did s-off but used the stock firmware and on gingerbread. I want to install a rom with the new ics ruu leak but I already did s-off on gingerbread and installed the hboot. Do I have to go back to s-on then install ics ruu and go s-off again with the ics version? trying to not brick my phone. I should have changed the firmware before hand but didn't read the FAQ only the instructions. I don't know what to do.
No you can run the ruu without worrying or there's a thread in development with just the radios and firmware that you can flash without having to run the ruu. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1614366

I'm not sure what you mean. I would go with the latest .10 I think it has jb hboot 2.2525. That way you have the latest radios and can fastboot flash your recovery without having to unlock

Either stock or JB HBoot should be fine, as long as its the 2.25 ICS 5-7 one. I'm on the stock one and have flashed several ICS ROMs just fine. Only reason you'd need the JB one is if you need extra fastboot commands I believe. Since I don't really do anything with fastboot, I just grabbed the stock one.

Back to stock?

Hello
I wanted to back to stock ROM and need help about it. My phone is rooted, out of the box s-off and unlocked bootloader. Curently runing mdeejays ICS and have ics radio.
I was just wondering can i just relock bootloader and run RUU from PC? Do i need to change radio or the RUU will take care of that?

If you want to lose s-off and go completely stock then that's what you would do.

Oh. That wasn't clear and some people do.
You have two choices then: you can flash a stock rooted Rom if you want root, or you can just run the ruu.exe without locking first. This will put you back at stock Rom with stock recovery but still s-off.

It would be best to flash an ics ruu. I think you can flash a GB ruu and update since you are s-off, but I wouldn't.

[Q] S-OFF with HBOOT 1.08.0000

When I saw the news for the HTC Thunderbolt ICS update finaly out I got so excited, I returned my phone to stock, ran the update, and was happy... not thinking "what if they update the HBOOT"...well THEY DID. Stupid me for not waiting one more day for the rooted release! So now Im unable to acheive S-OFF as my HBOOT is now 1.08.0000.
Perhaps its too soon to be asking this, but is there a way to S-OFF the new HBOOT?
Nope you're Sol until an exploit is found. Oh and there is an if there too because I don't know how much interest there will be in finding an exploit for an old device.

Well if anything came out of this, we now know for certain the results of accepting the update and hopefully warn others. I have to take this phone into best buy for repairs, and seeing as I already did this once and they just gave me a (defective) refurbished model, they most likely will do it again.
HBroot off
I have been able to get S-off via HTCdev after I requested the code to unlock the bootloader. I am stuck now with root and I would love to know if somebody knows how to push the root onto the ICS stock rom?

That can't be done. If you're s off flash the ics radios in Santods post in the developer section and then flash the ics rom.

I've tried it and it will not stick. Not sure why but I wish I had waited for the rooted rom before going back to stock and getting the OTA update.

Yes you should be able to flash superuser in recovery to get root. You won't be able to use the stock ICS ROM though if you're still s off

Yes but the tool (Thunderbolt tool) does not handle HBoot 1.08 at the moment. I wish it would because this would solve my problem
Find the thread that has the fastboot flash able form of cwm and then get back to me. I'm thinking that the root method may be different now though so I'm worried an ordinary version of superuser won't work.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk 2
I decided to take the plunge, and perform the OTA, after that hopped over to HTCDev to get the bootloader unlock to root. Flashed the handy dandy CWM recovery from fastboot, and rebooted into recovery. Flashed the SuperUser package. Guess What? No ROOT.

Then that says the root method is different.

I did a fastboot and flashed frev3vo, and ran adb shell.....although I wasn't root at the prompt, I was able to su root from adb shell, but I don't know at this point how to get back to root. I probably can't load an RUU either cause I lost S-OFF.

Problem Solved. I had been installing the superuser.zip package to get root, but the SuperSU solved my problem, now I just have to get S-OFF again at some point, but for now I am happy root!!!! That Fixed IT
