I've had issues with the stock? video player since i got the phone. it usually plays for a bit then says "Video cannot be played" this happens to pretty much all sites I visit that contain video. any ideas? or same problem? I tried using chrome and the video player that is used there is really crappy.

Im not having that luck, MP4 is not supported on my phone
Files that won't play for me seem to be more of an audio issue than video. I think it's the audio codecs that were preventing playback, still got a lot of testing to do on this front. I sometimes have a video start playing fine and after 3s a "vidoe player cannot play this file" pops up.
Don't know what you're talking about? I just converted a movie to MP4 format just the other night, and it plays just fine on my phone. You've gotta be doing something wrong?
My phone plays everything I've slapped on my sdcard... Mp4s exp... And its beautiful...

Mpeg4 wordplay for me, but it's video only. Absolutely no audio.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
it was probably an mp4 using AAC audio instead of AC3. I discovered this when I found the built in video player wouldn't play audio on some of my MKV files that Rockplayer would.
Yeah, I've been extremely impressed with video playback. I think there is an app called rockplayer you may want to try (though the format you mentioned seems to work for most)

What is the best video player that works pretty good on the atrix and plays a good number of different formats

Mobo Player
Second that, free, stable and feature rich
mVideoPlayer. Never failed me.
Hi there, I think I might try out these recommended video players. But before I do, I wondered if anyone could let me know why the videos I'm copying across to the phone (divx AVI episodes of TV shows downloaded via BitTorrent) don't stretch to the full size of the screen?
I have tried RockPlayer and yxplayer and what appears to be the standard 'video player'. yxplayer doesn't appear to do anything (or can't play divx AVI files), the other two play it in the centre of the screen with heaps of space around the sides.
When I play the same files on my TV through my PVR, they stretch to fit my TV screen dimensions and look really sharp. Was hoping the same would occur on the phone, so I would have something to watch on tomorrow's interstate flight.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also try qqplayer which can actually play a 1080p mkv file. though it will run very slow it still tries at least unlike most players!
Anyone know of any player that can fill the screen WITHOUT stretching the picture (in other words, it zooms in to fill the screen). I had that on windows mobile but have never found an Android player that does this.

Try taking a look at arcMedia.
Mobo Player.
I prefer mVideoplayer because it will display the folders that I have my videos in. I have over a 100 tv episodes for 7 to 8 different shows and not having them organized by folder drives me crazy.

Try using the soft-decoding for the file or possibly re-encoding it.

MX player is the best. It is free.
I found dice player to be really good. It's able to play most videos using hardware decoding.

I downloaded a short clip video from a website on to my phone. It's a .wmv file about 8 megs in size, when I try to play it back in rockplayer it playsback very slow, like it's in slow motion. Yet when I playback a video recorded by the phone playback is normal and smooth.
Anybody know why?

Also youtube videos play normally
Anybody have an idea?!

wmv files are always a pain in the ass, they always play slower than usual if they are really using the wmv codecs, this is seems more a codec issue than a phone issue.
Have you tried other files with same extension?
hook the file to the computer and check the codec using Media Player classic from K-lite codec pack, on the properties you can see the codec used.
If on your computer the file get heavy/slower to jump from one time to other this is for sure a codec issue.
Do you get any additional lags anywhere?
Maybe the version of rock player that you are using is not the good one for your phone.
Are you using hardware acceleration? (rockplayer config)

Yes I am using whatever the latest of rockplayer is.
No I'm not using hardware acceleration. Where do I get that?!
Gladbto know it's more a codex issue than a phone thing. Still annoying though.
So is an easy fix to use hardware acceleration? !

You can try QQPlayer if it ends up being a codec issue, or system player will even play some wmv.
Is it a 720p video? High resolution or bitrate could be the problem too. Hd video is just impractical to use on x10 unless it's from the video camera.
Stick with sd mp4 trailers if you can find them.

Vital player plays Wmv ok for me, had slow speed with arc media.

My nook is currently rooted and i have mobo player and mxplayer installed but none would play my thor 720p mkv rip without small lag.
I used to use moai as well until I learned about MX video player and now I use that one.

for me, it still stutters, maybe using a non mkv format would be better?
I'm noticing that videos recorded on the device are slightly laggy on playback. It seems to happen at some points. A restart helps, but I don't know why its happening. Other full hd videos play smoothly and I have tried other video players with no luck. Verizon galaxy s3.
Is it ones that you record? If so is it on1080p?

Yeah just in the videos that I record on the device. yes full hd 1920x1080. Everything is on default.
I'm having this same problem, any ideas?

Do you find them laggy on the stock video player? I find that they do stutter a bit on third party video apps, but they're perfectly fine on stock video player.
Yes, on the stock player. I took some video of my son the other day and when I played it back for my mom, it started stuttering at the end. But, I just played it for myself yesterday and it worked fine. Not sure what's up.

I've found a work around,it sucks but if you record in 720p the video that you record wont lag at all, I've called Samsung they said to try a factory reset. But I'm not going to I'm OK with my 720p. Hope this helps you guys out, if any body trys a factory reset and it works please come back and let us know.

I have noticed that ocassionaly the last couple frames stutter. But I've recorded a lot of 1080p videos and no other problems playing back on stock player. 3rd party video players on the phone are hit and miss tho (mostly miss).
I'm running into the same problem. It seems to be the player. When I upload the videos onto my pc they playback smoothly but when I play them on the stock player on the phone it lags badly.
