Galaxy note N7000 - Stuck on Logo screen - Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I was following instructions to flash the Criskelo v7 rom on my Galaxy Note N7000
First time with Android rooting ...... it told me to flash Abyss Kernel and after this do a wipe . Abyss did not load right and i did wipe
OK .... this is my first android and first time on rooting.............. i made a mess i guess
Now the phone does not go back to CWM recovery and can only go into download mode . I have downloaded ODIN 1.85
Also before doing all this i have created a Nandroid back up with the help of CWM
is there some way to recover my phone ?
Thanx

You would have been better posting in the QandA for the Note, but if you can get into download mode just flash a stock rom and start again

Thanx

Heres the note section http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1346
You can find the stock roms here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
you may beable to recover from your from your nandroid, but if your planning to install a custom rom anyway you might as well just install a free rom

You need a P rom to flash as far as we know so far .If you flash a wrong firmware you can brick your phone .
Checkrom is a custom rom if you go to the Checkrom post in the developers thread it wil giver you a descriptions . Same goes for all custom roms page one this rom is and has the following or not .

does this mean i cant flash miui ?
You can only flash a P rom unless you find evidence to the contrary . Most roms are for i9100 version .
Or be a guinea pig and try .

thanks for the info, i think i'll leave it for now i dont want to brick my phone :L
You can flash 9100 ROM on your 9100P
But 9100 ROMs don't support NFC module (it will be supported natively with ICS).
I have the same device (orange FR) and you can look my signature for working Radio + ROM...

I dont remember
But if your device is already rooted you can install Rom manager or CWM from the market and make a backup of your config. Then reboot in CWM and install what you want (read the how to install section of the wanted rom).
Don't care about your "P" version!
What you read here for standard device (i9100) is working for your P version.

Don't use Rom Manager, use Clockwork. Rom Manager seems to not work well with the SGS2, this forum is littered with posts from people who used Rom Manager to flash and it broke CW Recovery, put the phone into a bootloop or soft brick, etc, etc.
Best to play it safe IMHO.

Oh I didn't know that rom manager was not working fine on our device. I am using clockwork manager and it is working fine.
I've seen a heap of posts in the couple of months I've been visiting this forum from people who ended up with broken CW Recovery & bootloops after using the Manager app.
I used it once to try and flash a kernel & it broke recovery completely.
Obviously any/everyone's mileage may vary, but for me, I'd rather play safe & boot into Recovery whenever I flash or backup.

so if i shouldn't use rom manager, what should i use ?
Didn't say you shouldn't use it Just said that plenty of people have had problems using the app, and rather than risk it, since I had that problem with it, every time I've done a backup or flashed a rom/kernel I've rebooted into recovery & used CW Recovery itself to do the business
As I said in my previous post, your mileage may vary & you may not have any problems with it at all.

Hello guys! I have a GT-I9100P also with the latest BVKL2 2.3.6 firmware. I had it rooted when I was at BVKI3 2.3.4 firmware and now I am looking for a good CF-ROOT kernel for my phone. What would you recommend me? (what if I tell Chainfire to make a CF-ROOT more appropriate to my kernel)?

Why don't you post in Chainfire's thread to ask him about making an insecure KL2 kernel?
But I think you can use the insecure KL1 kernel from Chainfire's thread to use for root. Or you could flash SpeedMod or Siyah, and the rooting will happen for you. You have lots of options.
were to put the rom zip file
I got the exact same phone as the OP im trying to flash a rom in a zip format but clockwork mod recovery cant find the file ive looked in install from sd card and install update.zip. ive also tried installing it through rom manager, no joy there, inside rom manager i chose to boot into recovery to flash it manually and now i got a black screen with a white triangle n a lil green android dude so i see what people are saying about the s2 and rom manager, anyways my question is were do i place the zipped rom? on the internal or external and should i rename the rom file?
Ive had 2yrs experience with a HTC HD2 so im not exactly a noob to flashing roms, but the galaxy s2 is very new to me.

No Recover/ CWM Prob

Hello to all!
I have a question that has been asked before -BUT the answers given have made me more confussed than ever !!
My problem is - I have a Galaxy s2 - i1900 since Jan that came with Ginger 2.3 ?? and kernel kk14 I thnk! not 100% sure. I'm sure have a backup on pc,I think!
I did the Root idea from Galaxy2s-Root .com. which said to use odin to flash unsecured kernel think it was kk14..(but not 100% sure) can check which kernel if really need to know ??
Anyway did this and all fine! so I did the Res Remix v1.0 pro ROM too! all worked well!
BUT when it came to other day! I wanted to update ROM to Res Remix 2.6 or 3.0 ... The menu was Blue - But not just that is had choices missing and Im sure I had the orange CWM still on there! as I made a back-up the first time i did back-up or original ROM!
But when i went to CWM it says This version of CWM Manager should be used with CF-Root v5.0 or newer. It appears you are running a different kernel. Various features have been disabled. Bellow are the choices it shows
Andriod System recovery <3e>
Reboot system now
Apply update from external storage
Wipe cache partion
Apply update from cache
Test redbend fold (FS)
As you can see in - recovery there are no menus showing to update from ZIP / OR ? the Back-up or Recover
MY current phone info is - See pic1
This is the message where I get from CWM - See Pic 2
My Rot Manager results - See Pic 3
I was told I'm not Rooted properly. So try Root Manager, Results in ttached pic 3. Some1 else said just update a new ROM - BUT HOW - I got no Update from ZIP also the same for doing new kernel...
Can some1 just please tell me in a steep by steep way to solve this! REALLY want to try new ROM etc.. and would be happy to return any favour I can !!

Hey everyone and Merry Xmas
I am new as i said before in all android world "coming from iphone jb and mess"
i got Galaxy s2 i9100G OS ics 4.0.3
i wanted to put jb rom on it Revolt one or whatever is good and stable now
so here what i know so far and should do
1st i learnt i must Root my device so i can add any rom
and to do that i must Download Odin then put my device in download mode and flash clockwork v 6.0.2.1 or something
then reboot my device
and put it on clock work mode then flash rom i want
is what i said correct ? or am i missing on anything and is just flashing clock work v 6 is equal to meaning of rooting my device ?

all it says if you coming from stock
just flash clockwork via odin when your device in download mode , reboot
then open clockwork recoverymode
then flash the rom after you put it on your internal card reboot
and ofc in middle the wipe data and resetting factory settings stuff
but i read many things about rooting n here n there made my confused
for example this topic

made me think is clockwork is not what root mean ? or its somthing different

If coming from a Samsung Stock ROM:
1-Read this article on How to root your Samsung Galaxy S2 I9100G (Link) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679778
2-Wipe Data
3-Wipe Cache
4-Wipe Dalvik-Cache
5-Format /system
6-Flash ROM
7-Wipe Cache / Dalvik-Cache
8-Enjoy ReVolt ROM !!
that's whats said .. and what confusing me is not all steps is 1st one which is rooting .
in some videos it doesnt in clude to talk about root.zip
and other guides doesnt say anything about it , is that normal ?
you can alway watch a youtube rooting ics vid while keeping xda on another tab.
sometimes it is better to graphic something that you read.

There are literally dozens of ways to root your device. It's pretty simple, dude. Follow one set of directions. Don't worry about other directions that are not the same. Hell, the guide linked in the first post of Revolt ROM has three options just in that one post.
I think you're getting confused because nothing explains where the root access is gained.
It is contained within the custom kernel which also gives you clockworkmod. Cwm is a custom recovery that has many more features than stock.

[Q] A Few ROM Questions

Hi All
1st of the usual apology if this info is already out there, been searching for a while but cant seem to find the needed info.
Galaxy S2 i9100
UK T-Mobile
ICS 4.0.3
Kernel 3.0.15-I9100BVLPD
Questions
1. How do i know if a certain rom i want to try is comparable for my phone ? Can i use any ROM for an I9100 or do i need to look for BVLPD or what ?
2. Seeing as my phone is a paid monthly sub to UK-T-Mob, do i need to have a t mobile compatible ROM ?
3. .........errrr. well i had more Q's but my minds gone blank :cyclops:.. ill post more when i remember.
Many Thx

You can flash any ROM you like, your carrier won't notice it. The only thing that may not work is the modem, but guess what? there's plenty of modems you can flash
Keep in mind that once you modify your ROM your warranty will be voided, so back it all up just in case.
If your device is I9100, then look for I9100's ROMs.

1. You can use any I9100 rom if its a UK phone. Just dont try and flash a I9100x rom.
2. See #1.
Please dont make your next questions be silly ones like "how do I root my phone" or "how do I flash a rom", These questions have obviously already been asked/answered already and also covered in sticky topics/guides.
All you need to do is reboot into download mode, flash Siyah kernel, wipe data and then flash whatever rom you choose via recovery.
Ok, cool, many thx guys... & yeah i've backed up my data & efs all ready..
Now i'm gonna go rom crazy for a bit.
lol TheATHEiST.. i was gonna ask just those Q's and ask whats the best rom ?. joke.. i've been reading up on how to do. phone is rooted via the easy not needing an insecure kernel method. gonna try Siyah & a duel boot.

I have another Q if anyone knows: i'm currently trying out duel boot, but tried one and it wouldn't work and am looking for others to try but not sure if they are comparable or not with duel boot.. so heres my question
The backup i made from the recovery in CWM before trying any ROMS, is it a ROM or just a backup like a ROM ? if i try another rom without duel booting and dont like it or it messes up will my backup put phone EXACTLY back how it was ?
Thx

It's a back up, you can't dual boot a back up. It's just sitting there for a....rainy day.
What ROMs are you trying? what kernel are you using?
Some kernels don't support dual boot, as well as some kernels don't support certain ROMs (like JB leak).
Go ahead and do some research on this matter, you got a lot of material to go around.

Hi again, i must have not been clear in what i meant. (i did edit my previous post to make it clearer but it said i have to wait 5 mins cus i'm a new member.. despite being registered for over 1 yr. my edit must have failed)
i know a backup cant dual boot, what i was asking is; the backup i make in CWM "before" attempting to mess with any ROMs, is it in its itself a ROM ? (or just a none zipped backup).. i was also asking after trying a ROM, if i didn't like it or it messed up my phone would the original backup i make put my phone back EXACTLY as it was ?
In the past few hrs i've tried to dual boot using the Siyah kernel..
1 SuperNexus 2.0 rom http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2076650 stuck on boot saying com.adroid stopped working (or something)
2. SlimBean ROM,, same error
3. Resurrection Remix rom.. it asked which kernel & modem i wanted to install so i aborted.
Due the these errors thats why i asked the above question, that IF i go ahead & try a ROM on its own without dual booting, will my backup put phone how it is now using the backup i made in CWM if things go wrong ?
Thx again for anyhelp
I still would like to try & dual boot but i may leave that for another time & just try a straight rom.
Peace
Another Q, is there a thread that lists all\most or a lot of ROM's, searching is killing me.. and as XDA is sooooooooooo bit i know a thread with them all could be right under my nose.
Thx

I still would like to try & dual boot but i may leave that for another time & just try a straight rom.
Peace

Lol, that was some snappy typing.
If things goes south, yes, everything goes back the way it was by the time you backed it up.
What kernel are you using again? Here, have a look.
Thx
I'm using the Siyah kernel.....
Yeah i used the guides linked from that thread but i only tried the 1st method (didn't work) ... now i know my back up is good i think ill go ahead & try the 2nd method.
Thx again G
Good luck man.

[Q] Advice needed for rooting GT-I9300

Guys I know this is long but PLEASE don't freak out! I really need some advice from you experts on this! I hope you could spend your time reading everything here and give me some advices! Thanks!
Phone details:
Model number: GT-I9300
Android version: 4.3
Baseband version: I9300DXUGNB1
Build number: JSS15J.I9300XXUGNA5
Hello guys, since I'm not really a rooting expert (previously I rooted a motorola device), I would like to ask for some advices regarding rooting our S3 because I have only one phone and I can't afford to brick it.
1. So basically I'm referring to the guide here. However, that rooting guide is for Samsung Galaxy S3 on I9300XXUGNA7 Android 4.3 Jelly Bean, which is different from my build number (I've checked software update on my device over OTA and Kies3 but it says I have the latest firmware), will it works for my phone? Also in the guide it says to use odin3 v3.09, however in CF_auto_root page here it says to use odin3 v1.85, so which one is working for my device or which one is better?
2. Next I would like to ask is it necessary to install CWM recovery to replace the stock one? After searching around, I found that there are some people who installed CWM recovery even before rooting, is that even possible? So basically to install CMW recovery I think I will follow the steps here, is this working for my device?
3. Okay I know this is the dumbest question... but is there anything else I need to do after the above 2 steps (flashing kernel, modem etc.)?
Thank you very much for spending your time reading my post. I hope you can clear those doubts for me!

Have a look at this thread >> http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s3/general/howto-rooting-wiping-flashing-ultimate-t1911726 << it may help you answer a few questions...
Also if you are planning to flash custom roms you do not need to root if you are doing it to mod your phone only then you will need to root..

Flashing your phone in any way doesn't guarantee not bricking it, see this thread
Scroll down to the quoted section headed Quick Root from there
Download Odin
Download CF-AutoRoot for your phone
Read the link on rooting
It is really straight forward just read up on it but don't read too much into it a frighten yourself

Great that thread helps a lot! I cleared most of my doubts now, but one more question please, after rooting, I wished to install ported apps like S5 launcher and accuweather, and in order to install these I need to flash from recovery. Is it possible to flash this using stock recovery? Or I need to install custom recovery like CMW?
You can't install anything with stock recovery, you'll need a custom recovery.
Make sure you have a full nandroid and efs backup before you flash anything -ported apps can break the framework and produce bootloops.
Seriously though, all this information is available in the sticky or by searching -why do need people to write it all out for you?

Thanks for your information. I did search around and try to understand the things myself, but still there are some doubts remain, that's why I opened this thread hoping that someone can clear the doubts for me. This is my only phone and I really can't afford another (I'm from a low-income family), I just want to make sure everything is alright so that I don't mess up my device. Thanks for your understanding
If this is relevant for Samsung galaxy s3, I got this done the other day using Odin to unlock and root, ran the root app to confirm root. The ROM manager to found CWM recovery flash. So far all good, should take 5 mins in all but an hour in prep and homework.

Don't use rom manager, it can soft brick your phone.

Hello! I agree that it would be better NOT to use Rom Manager. Many users had problems because of it. The safest way, in my opinion, is to flash a custom kernel using Odin. For example, I had stock rom and used Odin to flash boeffla kernel (not advertising it, just saying what I did) because that kernel had both a .tar version and a .zip one. I downloaded the .tar version and flashed it with Odin by putting the .tar file in the PDA column. That's for root.
For recovery I'm using PhilZTouch and I love it. It supports both JB and KK roms and that is preety cool. Also it's full touch so I don't need to stress my hardware buttons. It's also available as .tar file so you can flash it with Odin just like the kernel.
That's how I'd recommend anyone to root and install a custom recovery on a Sammy phone because I believe it's the safest way. PS: before launching Odin make sure the phone is NOT connected to the PC and that Kies isn't running in the background (use Task Manager to check) Goodluck! !!:thumbup:

Wow, that's great. By saying unlock, do you mean unlock the bootloader? Wait, is the bootloader locked in our S3?

Thanks! Will check out PhilZTouch recovery :fingers-crossed:
Currently struggling with deodexing/odexing the stock rom, after reading around I can differentiate between the odex and deodex rom, still digging on how to deodex a rom though (since I want to install some S5 mods). After searching around, it seems like titanium backup can do the deodexing/odexing just nice Gonna do some more preparation, hopefully I can have my device rooted by this week
You could flash PhilZ Recovery and make a nand backup of your rom. This way you'd have an emergency copy if something goes wrong or if you break something in the system. Just my thought
