For instance, I delete most of the notification and ringtones that come with a mod. In fact, I've deleted all of them. I've achieved this using Root Explorer with RW enabled.
But when I go into Settings > Sound > Ringtone\Notification, some names show up. I've tried deleting cache, etc. But no matter how many times I do this the names show up; even after restarting my phone.
2 vanished somehow, but I still have 1 left. Specifically it's called "Teleport". There's no real file and no sound to play from. So when I highlight it, it doesn't play, because I've deleted it. I just want the name gone. The nonexistent files don't show up in any music list or even in file manager such as Root Explorer.
It's been like this for a while. How can I fix this? Any apps, tricks or something?

You could try unzipping the rom, removing unwanted files and then rezipping it.

Wouldn't that usually mess with the MD5 sum and make it corrupt? I could do that, but I'd have to install the rom again over a factory reset.

So don't unzip, use winrar and just delete the files
I suppose.
I think I'm going to update to the latest CM7 rom, as mine is months old. So I'll just do that for the new rom.
Just a few quick thoughts...Have u tried clearing dalvik cache in recovery? Also if u are flashing the same/similar ROM u may not need to do factory reset / wipe data. Though u may need to clear data for Media Storage (and possibly wipe dalvik) before flashing so it has to recreate it after flashing the new ROM.
Odd little problem u have there. Could be worth while to just flash a clean rom and try deleting the files to see if it still happens. Also, u could always delete them from rom before flashing and then try to only restore data from a backup. Kinda doubt that would work but if all else fails.....

Yes, sir (sir?). I have done that as well. No luck.
I deleted the ringtones/notifications in the latest CM7 RC2 released on May 9th before flashing on a full wipe and it worked, but unfortunately the rom kept freezing and restarting so I went back to my nandroid backup. No matter how many wipes and cleans I do on this, plus fixing persmissions etc, nothing works. It's no big deal, really. It just bothers me because I've got OCD and I refuse to believe it's there, therefore not allowing me to pick what I really want (maybe I'm stupid about it that way).
I'm just going to wait until there's a stable release and just start over from there by getting rid of the ringtone/notifications in the rar.
Thanks!
Hi all,
Was running CM9 rc1 with no problems then upgraded to RC2 then to CM9 nightly 20120804. Installed Siyah Kernel by flashing in CWM recovery and added a second ROM (winamlite). Now superuser says it is denied superuser permissions in CM9. It works fine in Winamlite though.
I have tried reflashing CM9 nightly which reinstalled the CM kernel which didn't help and then reflashed siyah kernel. Still no luck. Read quite a few posts and tried a lot but nothing does the trick (flashed latest superuser from CWM, wiped superuser data, tried to install root from within extweaks).
Can someone point me in the right direction to sort this please?
Thanks,
Max

Wipe cm9 completely, flash it again, flash Siyah kernel on cm9, and flash the same siyah zip for wanamlite
Try it and it should be working, I did something like this when I had this problem

Do you mean factory wipe data/reset? Thought this might be the case and was trying to avoid it as had just got the phone set up how I want it. Saying that I am going to upgrade to the stable CM9 so now's as good a time as any.
If I am going to go through with this, is there a way to completely wipe ALL data from my phone? Everything from photos, emails, old app data etc. I have done a factory wipe before but it seemed to leave some files and folders on the phone. (or maybe my memory is failing me).
Looks like I have my weekend planned out for me then. If only the sun would bu99er off and let me geek out without the guilt...
Thanks for the help.
p.s. Sorry for posting this thread in the wrong place MODs and thanks for moving it.

So you wanna wipe your sdcard too? It's not necessary though it's of course possible. You gotta reboot in to recovery, wipe data/factory reset, go to mounts and storage, format /system, if you wanna wipe your sdcard, you click on Mount /sdcard and then click on format /sdcard.
After all that is done, now go to advanced and wipe dalvik cache and wipe battery stats.
Now your phone is completely wiped. Actually, wanamlite ROM would still stay. Like you said before, you've lost the ability to dual boot. That means that your kernel changed from siyah to cm9. To remove wanamlite too, you need to get siyah kernel (this can be done before doing the above or after doing the above) and then you need to boot in to recovery, dual boot options, remove 2nd ROM
Sent from my S II Monster
If you format /sdcard, 2nd ROM will not work since there are no data and cache images.
If you install WanamLite zip through dual-boot options, it will prevent from installing other kernel.
About wiping /data. After wiping, those folders will be created always when Android is running, cause they're necessary.

Yeah I totally forgot to tell him that 2nd ROM won't be there if he wipes sdcard.
However, wiping /data will wipe the folders and again create the folders. It's true but the new folders won't have stuff from the previous ROM. So it's recommended when flashing a new ROM. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Hi, I know we shouldn't really need to do that, but in the last 24 hours my Xperia U has suddenly started lagging, before I wipe it or throw it at a wall I want to try wipe the cache/dalvik cache as it solves similar issues with my touchpad. What's the best way to do it as obviously stock recovery is none existent so we don't have the option there. I don't want to really flash CWM for this one task. I'm on ICS and rooted.
How would I go about doing it.
Thanks.
Go to /data/dalvik-cache and delete all files,NOTE: You will get few FCs during deleting but thats normal.
not 100% precent sure its that but i think it is

Sorry for my bad english
Xperia U (ICS) --> Root --> Custom Rom
Hi guys, I'm new to this Forum
Actually, Im having this problem…
It all about my font ..
I was using the fonts from settings > display > font … but then I thought of changing a newer font, and so I downloaded “Font Installer”
I didn’t read the instructions carefully before I download and install…It says **Backup first before you do anything**, and so, I install the font and it change my browser’s font and the folder font (like when you create a folder, it will show you how many app you have in the folder, it changed the numbers too)
I wanted to change it back to my original font but it wouldn’t let me anymore, I downloaded other fonts but it still doesn’t work..
My friend told me the original font for S2 ICS is [Roboto-regular.ttf]…
So, I try and try and try, finally, it allows me to change the font and it ask me to reboot.
Okay, I reboot my phone, then the phone starts and keep on loading at the “S Samsung Galaxy S II Logo’ and I wait and wait, it still doesn’t do anything..
Im thinking of my phone was BRICKED..Then I ask my friend straight away about it…What he told me was it is just “BootLoop” (not sure what is that)…
He ask me to do these steps..
1. Volume Up + Home Button + Power Button
2. It then directs me to CWM, It gave me 6/7 choices… (reboot system, wipe data, wipe cache and few more)
3. 1st I click reboot system (still doesn’t do anything), then 2nd I click wipe cache ( click yes and then I click reboot system again), not working also…
4. then my friend ask me to clear dvcache and clear all data, he say it will lose everything…
What should I do now ?
I've saved my contacts in my SIM..gallery, apps doesn't care anymore..
If so, do i need to reformat my phone ?
It won't help you so don't wipe

So can you go into CWM? (Volume up+home+power). Clear the cache and dalvik cache. Then go to install zip from internal SD(depends if you put in phone storage or micro SD.). Find the file from the above and install. Then reboot. Should be fine then.

Dalvik cache is just for the apps data. It doesn't reformat. Its not much actually. Just that it might cause errors with you don't wipe it. Hmm. Put it in micro SD card then. Install from external SD and reboot.
Sent from my potato.
When your phone starts up, the Dalvik Virtual Machine ( Dalvik Cache) looks at all your apps and frameworks, and creates a tree of dependencies which is stored in the dalvik-cache. This allows applications to run in an optimised state (and explains why your phone takes longer to boot up after applying a new rom, it’s rebuilding the cache.)
SO when flashing new roms without wiping dalvik cache sometimes will result in Force Close issue due to Dalvik VM skipping the caching process for apps as it detected existing app cache.
To connect your phone to the computer, connect it and in CWM go to "mounts and storage" . The last option should be "mount usb storage". Then you can move the file written above

Hey guys,
I was running LiquidSmooth v2.9 previously, and thought I would try some of the other mods. Heard a lot about SlimBean so gave the lastest version a try (Build 7). Right off the bat, the ROM was highly unstable. It would crash randomly and often. After a few hard reboots (Power+Home button), the ROM just refused to start up - it would get stuck on the boot screen logo. I tried clearing the cache + Dalvik, but no luck. It would boot to the 'Android is optimizing app' bit but would get stuck at "starting apps" after it finished optimizing.
I had Illusion ROM on the phone, so flashed that, wiped the cache + Dalvik, but the phone is behaving in similar fashion. It gets stuck on the boot screen logo, or at the "starting apps" bit if i clear the Dalvik the cache.
I fear I may have bricked my phone. I hope there is a solution to this. Any help will be appreciated!

It does say to format system - is there a way I can avoid this? My only concern is my camera images - I do have a backup, but I believe that when I will copy them from my PC to the phone, it will loose date formatting and just show them in an unorganized fashion.

I went to CMW and selected wipe/factory reset option which should delete all user data. It brought my phone back to life, with IllusionRom in it, but I am encountering random crashes like how I did when I first installed SlimBean. I am sure it's going to go the same way and I will be stuck again with a bricked phone.
Slim Bean suggest to format/system from Mount and Storage in CMW. Is that recommended? Because wipe/factory reset did not delete my user data like Gallery images.

Is deleting SD card necessary - I don't know how that will help especially since it only has images and other media.
I will try formatting system, data, and preload. Should do something else - like erasing the currently installed ROM and put it back again? No idea how to do that though. Should I flash the ROM again, regardless?

No leave the sd card only format if you have problems .
Use the How to return to stock for warranty guide to restore your phone .
I suggest you then read the basic faqs and guides before flashing anything .

camera images are stored on /sdcard not /system.
This is quite a basic understanding of layout. Please read the "read before rooting" thread in my signature. It has all the basic info you need to know.
I performed format/system/data/preload/cache, wiped dalvik and normal cache, and reset to factory settings. Installed Slim bean along with Slim Gapps. It seems to be working, or rather I am getting prolonged used out of it before it crashes. It has only crashed once for me (I was just browsing the homescreen), but I haven't used the phone frequently due to work.
I don't think the problem is solved. Could it be related to emmc chip?

I have had two crashes so far, but since the past 5-6 hours, it is going steady. Slim Bean is quite slow, especially compared to LS, but I am not if it's the ROM or if the system is performing optimally.
Anyways, if I have another crash, I will install the stock and give it a try. Will keep this thread updated.
