Okay, so I think I'm stupid. I was on a rooted Stock ICS build, and I was using S-Memo quite a bit. I had Titanium run batch backups of my apps and data every few nights and upload them to Dropbox.
Then, on the 23rd, I flashed the CM9 Nightly, which obviously doesn't work with S-Memo since it's TW only.
Is there a way for me to recover some of the notes I had saved in S-Memo now that I'm on CM9? Could I restore the old S-Memo from Titanium, or is there a way to extract the data since I still have the backup files? Or are those just gone for good?
It's not a huge deal if they're gone for good, but there were a few things I wish I'd exported--but I didn't think about that.

To be honest I haven't seen any method of viewing S-Note files on anything but the S-Note app.
Maybe send the files to someone here or you know with TW note, and have them snap screenshots for your records?
Nandroid backups.....
Before flasing a new rom it is always prudent to use CWM to create a nandroid complete backup of your phone (i.e. android OS and phone's memory). This backup would have allowed you to go straight back to your old OS and data.
TiBa is great for restoring your programs once you are in a new fresh rom.
If you don't want to wait for someones help, nandroid backup your current ICS build, grab the original GB TW ROM flash it on, TiBu your old data back - hopefully you saved the SNote data - and don't forget to nandroid backup the stock OS after restoring your data. Then restore the ICS rom and voila no more going back to empty os...
Yes you can still recover your memos. At least I could. Go to internal SD card, applications, smemo, cache. You should see your memos there.

Hello,
All the memos I've done, were written in plain text. Yet the data in <internal memory>/Application/SMemo has the memos exported as PNG images ! Where is the plain text of the memos ?

I found that it is in an SQLite database in /data/data/com.sec.android.widgetapp.diotek.smemo/databases/pen_memo.db

I am in the same boat. I recovered multiple Unsaved files in the cache and another folder called 'Switcher' located in >Applications>S Memo>Switcher. I was in the middle of writing these memos when the application closed.
All the memos I lost seem to be in the Switcher, given their time-stamps. However, they are .SFP files and I cannot open them. When I try to convert the filetype to .SNB (the S Memo filetype), my phone will not open them ('File Could Not Load').
Is there a way for me to somehow restore these files?

what is that software? I want to restore the file in cache, I saved the thing before, but S memo deleted what was on the memo when I opened and tried to edit it(and I deleted it by accident). So, there is still .sfm in Application\Smemo\cache, so how would I restore this?

I went to the switcher folder and download all the SFM files. Using paint or windows picture viewer, I could open the file (though its in a picture format)

Ok, I have finally convinced my wife to let me play with her vibrant. I plan on rooting it tonight but before I put the new ROM on her phone she wants me to try to backup her apps. She does not want to lose all of her data for her current apps. Stock 2.2 is always freezing or messing up on her and she is getting really annoyed!
My question is this, in order for me to move everything over (app and data) is there a step by step guide for Titanium Backup so I can do this properly?
(When I did it to my phone, I screwed up and lost everything on my vibrant and I don't want to do this again.)
I know with MIUI it has a backup feature which is awesome and this is more than likely what I will put on her phone.
Please help!
Thanks in advance
It is pretty simple really. In Titanium just hit batch and backup all apps plus data. You can also choose to save the backup on external micro sdcard just in case.
When I did that last time it wouldn't put everything back I guess I don't understand the process
Sent from my T959 using xda premium
What exactly did it not restore? Hit menu and batch and you can see what apps you are going to back up. Similarly when you are restoring you can see the list and it also gives you option to restore the app + data or just the apps. Just make sure after making a backup that you have backed up every app that you wanted.
It shows you everything in batch menu screen.
Sent from samsung vibrant
Only one other suggestion I have is do not back up system apps. Restoring system apps + data doesn't work nicely with one ROM to another. Just use backup user apps menu.

That's just it, she don't want to lose the data, that's my problem

Data of system apps?

Data from apps downloaded from the market

When you do backups, the data is also included.
When you restore apps later, choose data+app.

If you are going to MIUI, use Titanium Backup sparingly. Do not restore any system (red) apps and do not restore apps offered in the ROM. When I first went to MIUI, I restored my apps one at a time rather than use restore all apps. I didn't have an issue nor did I lose any data. Also, do a nandroid backup and I would backup all the files on the phone to your computer. This way you can move the apps to the system/app folder if things go south. I hope she enjoys MIUI, I do.
How do I move the files to the computer?? What folder is it located in? Do i need to download root explorer for this...I have to completely redo her entire phone and I plan on wiping everything and starting from scratch, I believe somehow someway something was messed up and Miui did not install properly. I want to start her over from scratch like a brand new vibrant off the showroom floor.
Hook your phone up to your PC and pull off the folder called TitaniumBackup and put it on you desktop. Once you "clean" your phone, you can put all that back on your SDcard. Pretty easy really.
titanium backup has a dropbox option now which backs everything up to your dropbox.
and unless she's using google voice, she's going to lost her text messages. similarly with call history. contacts and wifi stuff should be backed up with the google account. so, like the picture posted above, just 'backup all user apps' then after flashing the new rom 'restore all apps with data'.
Backup and restore problem Titanum Backup 8.4.0.2 PRO / Galaxy S9 Plus
Hi
I have used TB 2-3 yrs ago and it wask ok..not many problems.
No I have a problem with all backup jobs I make..all of them not are marked with these smilies but ? ( I guess smilies means OK and no error backup and "?" means some error/missing in backup
And; when I restore a OLD backup With smilies, after the restore the smilies is away/missing and this "?" have apper instead of the smilies, so it seems that TB destroy the old OK backup after it is restored.
Can this error be a fail in options? Something I have to set in options for get it to work?
Hope for answerd ( and hope this quest is posted in correct group. If not, pls tell me
Regards
Rolf
Hello-
Just got my new LTE and rooted it right away. I then loaded my Titanium files from my old EVO to install my old apps. While cleaning up the backups in Titanium, I accidentally deleted the program that displays weather; this is the one where you press the space right below the clock on the main page. When I press it now, it says the application isn't installed.
What is the name of this app and where can I get it? Any help would be greatly appreciated so I can extract myself from this bone-headed move.

Did u make a Nand after u rooted?
Of course not. Grrrrr
well i got a simple solution. Especially cause your rooted now. Flash Viper's Stock Deodexed ROM. Just because, you plan to stay Rooted correct? Its up to date, and no different from what u have now. Its just deodexed.
EDIT....Ohh im sorry, he has odex and Deodexed Stock ROms. Or you could start over. I could give you the Weather.apk and have you push it to system/app, but why go thru all that trouble. If your looking to stay Stock, and keep that fresh and nice **BACK-UP** (lol, had to do that) then i would flash one of the few Stock ROms we got now, or flash the RUU and sgtart over. I personally dont like adding in things that were taken out by accident. Could make a mess.
Here you go. Put these in your Titanium Backup folder and then restore.

Actually, I'm not sure what I need. I restored the one you sent, but it didn't fix the problem. I really don't want to install a new ROM just yet - I like the stock ROM (for now).
Well, can you compare my list to what's on yours and see what's missing?
The one that you sent is missing, but I copied it to the Titanium folder on my phone. This is really strange.
Okay, then in TB, go to: Menu -> Refresh Apps List
That should read it into TB so TB can restore it.
I had already refreshed it.
Okay...
Then what? They won't install?
Maybe try renaming them to "Weather.apk" and "Weather.odex" and putting them into /system/app manually.
Wait, never mind. Hang on a sec...
Okay, try these. The .zip contains both Weather.apk and Weather.odex pulled from my /system/app folder.
I copied them over to the sdcard and then went into adb shell. I tried to move them to /system/app but it is read only. How do I get them there?
I don't know off-hand how to do it through adb but you can install ES File Explorer (free) from the market. Then, under Settings there is an option to mount the system folder as writeable.
Or maybe someone can step in and advise how to do it in adb.
I was able to get it to /system/app, but it still isn't working. How can I get a stock ROM and install it?
Check the permissions. I think they should be rw - r - r.
I just applied an RUU to my phone to reset back to 4.3 stock in order to get the 4.2.2 update. I had HTC Backup making daily backups, but it doesn't do anything. Shouldn't it restore my apps and settings like my Google device do?

did you download it from play store and run it ?
It's already on my phone in Settings --> Backup & Reset. I set it up to backup when I first got my phone using HTC account, and I see the last backup dates change to confirm it's doing a daily backups. But I don't see how to restore the last backup?
After Googling this, I think I should be getting an option to restore from backup when I first boot my newly stocked phone, but instead, I get that AT&T Getting Started interface with no option to restore.

Are you saving to Google Drive or Dropbox?
Been running the latest ViSiON-X. Chugging along as normal when I decided to switch launchers, went from Buzz Launcher back to Nova Prime. Things started acting kinda weird so I tried reinstalling Buzz Launcher from a TB, thing just hung there and didn't install the backup. I'm trying to remember the order of my actions within the last 24 hours, I've been very ill past few days so my mind's a bit fuzzy. I did flash comadose either before or after I discovered this issue with Titanium Backup.
In any case, I decided to reflash the ROM and after I signed back in to Google I downloaded TB and tried to restore my backups. Nothing. No backup found and I couldn't even set my backup folder to my external SD any longer for some reason. I even had trouble installing the paid version or key for Titanium Backup Pro, either the install will fail with some kind of SD storage error message (forgive me I can't remember exactly what it said) or the install would just hang and not finish. I had to restart and keep trying until it finally installed. Ugh...
I've no idea what happened. I fixed permissions but that didn't work. I tried editing the permission file by adding the media line: <group gid="media_rw" /> but that didn't work.
The apps themselves wont be such a big deal reinstalling but the data was quite precious. The other major issue is even now I still can't set my Titanium Backup location to external SD. I've no idea why this has changed in the last 24 hours. I'm at a lost.

When I'd try scanning the entire device it would just hang on 9% and not move.
*UPDATE*
I formatted my external SD card. Before I did I checked the size of all my files and it was almost 500MB. I have no media there, I was using my external solely for my TB files so it seems the apps and data was there but no way for me to reinstall to my phone through TB.
Oh well, starting from scratch now. Reinstalling all my apps one by one from the Play Store. I still need to get an idea on what happened here and why TB was stuck on 9% like that when I was trying to scan the entire device. Other than the problem of using my external SD for my backups once again I would still appreciate help getting answers for everything else I mentioned above. Thanks guys!
Even though my data from my apps is lost FO EVA it feels nice starting from scratch. Kinda like enjoying a nice long shower after a crazy night partying but regretting to lose that girl's number she wrote on your hand. I've even configured my phone in a different way than before and I like it better. Still, I'd love to figure out what the heck happened so I don't have to go through this again. Any help would be appreciated.
download an app called sdfix and it worked like a charm. Now I can do titanium backup's on my external sd card. SDFix: KitKat Writable MicroSD https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nextapp.sdfix
Thanks for that! After formatting my external SD I was able to set Titanium Backup to it but I'll still keep this app on hand in case I have problems in the future. I'm still not any closer to finding out why the phone was hanging at 9% when I tried to scan the entire device looking for my previous backup or why I started having problems applying my backups before. It seemed to happen out of nowhere. Perhaps comadose had something to do with it I don't know.

AFAIK if you have your sd card formatted to ext2-4 and the system runs into a filesystem error, it sets the partition to read-only. maybe that happened here?

"Other" is anything on internal storage that doesn't fit the description of the other categories. The ROM alone is probably a GB or more. Also did you make a Titanium backup, or nandroid? Those take up storage, also.
I like to keep a known good ROM or nandroid (but not both, as that is excessive) on internal storage or removable SD, in case anything goes wrong I can restore with one of those (although you can pretty easily get it on the phone or SD if needed, so its just for convenience). But aside from that, its not necessary to keep the ROM zip.

Did you outright delete the nandroid, or at least move/copy to your computer or SD first? You have 17 GB free, so unless you make a copy, discarding backup data for the sake of unneeded space seems like a poor trade-off.
Do you understand that flashing a ROM does not wipe the internal storage? So anything you saved there before the flash is still there. Unless you choose the option in recovery to wipe storage, which will then of course cause you to lose any personal data stored there (backups, photos, etc.).

There are various apps to look at storage, but I find that one to have a cool and useful interface:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.diskusage&hl=en
It visually shows you how much space a folder is taking up, and you can then tap on it to drill down.
