Battery Issue? - Atrix 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been having this issue for a while, not sure if it is my phone but it is not the rom. Been through 5 roms and it still has a problem.
The phone seems to be charging to fast... After a 5 minute charge, it charges to over 15%. Not normal...
After an hour of standby time, the battery drains by 7%
5 minutes on youtube = 10% battery. Charge won't last 3 hours, it use to be lasting 11-12 hours. Motorola is sending me a new battery, but I have bought a new battery online and it is kinda doing the same thing.
Is there a mod I can download and install it inside of recovery to make it better?
Thanks.

The problem seems to be the 'battery stats' failure.
It usually occurs when you keep changing ROMs over and over. If repeated, the system fails to detect the correct battery information(like battery percentage, charing phase and etc).
There's two ways to get this thing straightened up .
The first is to go to CWM recovery(if you've unlocked your bootloader and installed CWM recovery)
I recommend you to fully charge before going through this steps.
1) go to -advanced menu.
2) go to -Wipe Battery Stats then select Yes.
3) Then charge till 100%, and then disconnect from AC charger.
4) Discharge until it reaches 0%, then recharge again.
The other way is to make use of 'battery calibration' app by NeMa.
You will be able to find it on Playstore.
I hope it would help solve your problem

Wiping battery stats doesn't do anything. That's why this selection was removed on recent TWRP 2 recoveries. People still use CWM???

[Q] Simply Honey battery life

Hi all,
I have a question about battery life on the Simply Honey 2.7.2 ROM
My phone is usually idle overnight, but i notice a drop of about 25-30% in 8 hours. Is this usual?
Here are some screenshots
Battery Plot (1.26 am to 9.26am) Battery was 100% at 1.26
System details
Top Apps
Is this pretty normal for overnight battery drain? The Device usage indicates almost no use..so i'm wondering why the battery is draining.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you
I'm having the same issue. With Darky's 9.5 the phone easily last a day, now it's lasting 9 hours or so. I just flashed the new ROM yesterday.
This is from the Simply Honey post:
HOW TO RECALIBRATE YOUR BATTERY (by heartagramm):
COMPLETE GUIDE!!!
You'll have to use the phone for about 1-4 days (although it varies depending on the phone and battery used; every phone is an individual). It runs out of battery. Yes. Let it run. Recharge. After 3-4 recharges the battery will "gain" it's performance back.
After 3-4 full charge/full drain -cycles, do the following:
1. Charge the battery up to fullest.
2. Keep it plugged in to charger, and reboot to recovery.
3. On the recovery, go advanced, wipe battery stats, scroll on to yes BUT Don't wipe them yet. When you're ready, quickly remove the battery cable and push to wipe the battery stats.
4. Reboot the phone, use normally. Let it run completely out of battery.
5. Charge the phone back to full. Turn off phone. Charge until it says 100% on the green bar and vibrates for full charge.
6. The Important Part. Remove the charge cable for 0-0.5 seconds and plug it back in instantly. Let it charge to 100% again. Do this 1-2 times again, so you've done this 2-3 times total.
7. Reboot to recovery, wipe the battery stats again as on the step 3.
8. After wiping the battery stats, plug the charger back in the phone.
9. Reboot to ROM. Keep the cable plugged in. Keep it plugged in for about 30 mins to 2 hrs. Unplug. Should say 100%, mine did for about 40 mins after it depleted onto 99%.
And this is the way you should really gain great battery performance.

I'm going to try this and hopefully it works.
Let us know if it sorts itself out after a couple of days...
Chris.
Thanks. I will try this.
I recently downloaded a Battery Calibration App from the market too (NeMa) and calibrated my battery using that..but I'll try this method also.
Let me know if you have any improvements also.
Thanks!

I switched to Doc's ROM and battery life is back to normal. I'll try Simply again after a few versions.

I don't think there are going to be new versions, because he's now doing some Gingerbread based ROMS.
Which one is Doc's ROM?
I'm on SimplyHoneyV1.0XE and have been for a couple of days. This is my first Simply Honey experience but I think this is the best battery life I've ever gotten on ANY ROM including stock. Given it is a little early in my test to determine just how good it is going to be but I would recommend you give it a try and see how it does on your battery.
P.S. My findings were based on the fact that after a 100% charge, light usage (2-4 phones calls, and several texts) for almost 10 hours I still had 89% of my battery. Pretty impressive if you ask me.

I'm pretty sure they perform the same function. When you touch the "Calibrate Battery" button, the app automatically performs all the steps mentioned (wipe battery stats, mainly).
One app you might try is Juice Defender. I've used it a few times, and it worked well when battery life was an issue for me (I've switched to Axura, and it isn't anymore. Neither with Bionix).

[Q] new battery reading wrong

i got a new non official battery for my atrix its 1800mah...
it charges to 100% but drops to 5% in a matter of hours of light browsing and a few games...the thing is it stays @ 5% for a long time, my battery was on 15 hours and it was @ 5% for about 12 hours
ive tried to calibrate it, but im not sure if it does it right, i downloaded a battery widget that says i have not calibrated it yet...this is not my first android as ive had plenty but this is the first phone that the battery has acted like this
also i actually have got 2 of those batterys but 1 doesnt catch charge i put it on the phone and the charge screens show 5% and charging but then stops charging after a few minutes and doesnt have enough juice to turn the phone on
Try this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1198333
Instead of the calibration app suggested in the link I just used CWM to clear battery stats, and *#*#4636#*#* to check if the battery is at full capacity.
im not rooted currently, so ill try the steps except for the jug6ernaut
thanks
Just so you know, the jug6ernaut files are actually what fixes a known battery jump issue with GB. So even if you successfully recalibrate your battery it will most likely still jump around whenever you reboot your phone. For example, you may reboot at 90%, and when it restarts all of a sudden it's showing 100%.

[Q] Battery Issues

Ive been having a weird battery issue. my battery gauge will say its at 15% or whatever it says at the time. ill plug it in and like 10 minutes later it will say 100% battery is fully charged. Obviously its not 100%, even when I charge it overnight, when I unplug it itll be stuck at 100% for like 2 hours then all the sudden drop to like 85%. im lucky if my battery lasts 12 hours now , same thing has happened on different roms. Do I need a new battery?

I'd try a different ROM/Kernel, see if that makes any difference (after clearing batterystats in CWM).
If that wouldn't help, I'd say battery is ze dead.

tried differents and kernels, and wiped battery stats guess my battery is done
try "battery calibration" app. it helps me a lot, and keep my phone running longer. i can last almost a day with medium use.
i have also tested with on screen non-stop (wifi + online game that require wifi, brightness roughly around 30%, medium volume, with whatsapp and talkbox in between), in conclusion, i can run for 4hours plus straight with sufficient battery left. i never push it through, i think i can go for 5 hours if i want to.
battery calibration app can be found in play google store
Worst battery life evah!
Im having issue with my battery as well, I plug it in a electric outlet for about an hour last night and when i saw the charge, it was only like 49%!!!!
And today, before my meeting it was like 22%, after an hour of meeting, BOOM! EMPTY BATT! What I only did was surf and checked my calendar!
It charge slow! And its draining fast!
something happened to my battery before last month, when i charge my fone it says 88% then suddenly after few mins 1 or 2 it become fully charge, but when i unplug my charger it comes back to 88% again, i tried some apps like battery calibration and also i'm wiping the battery stats in cwm everytime i flashed a new rom and it helps my battery charge in normal and accurate level...i'm using also cpu spy to checked if my fone is going to a deep sleep. now my battery lasts for 1day 11hrs with light usage. but for heavy usage i've got 40% after 4hrs of continious hd gaming.

[Q] Battery is burning FAST !

First of all it wouldnt charge past 99%, And then, after one hour of standby it went down to 88%!!
Cm7 official stable release.
Me too no pass 99% :S
Try to download a "battery caliberation" app and do that, also burn it to 0% and charge to 100% while the phone is off..i heard that this might help.
Now i will flash Nottachtrix and do what i wrote Good luck man !

The charging thing is something that is (seemingly) well known throughout the community. I have tried to do the calibration, but it doesn't seem to work that well (at least for me). There is a thread around here somewhere for fixing the issue. I just have never tried it due to work reasons.
The charging past 99% is a known issue with most of the ROMs. There is a thread in here that takes you step by step to get it to display 100%. Basically....
Charge the phone long enough to where you know it should be at 100% even though it is still displaying 99%.
Power the phone off while it is still connected to the charger and then pull the battery.
With the battery pulled, power the phone back on until you see the battery indicator with the "?".
Put the battery back in and reboot.
You will then see the display of 100% with the phone still connected to the charger. The only downside is that as soon as you disconnect the charger, it will drop back to 99%. I have done this multiple times.
You can try the latest nightly: update-cm-7-20120508-NIGHTLY-olympus-signed.zip
I read good things about it.
First of all, use Wipe Battery Stats function at recovery.
1 - Discharge all your smartphone battery;
2 - Connect it to the wall charger and don't turn it on;
3 - Wait till it shows you 100%;
4 - Remove the battery, wait 10 seconds, put it again and keep it turned off;
5 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and press power button till it turns on;
6 - Wait 30 minutes, keep it connected to the wall charger and use Battery Calibration App to calibrate it;
It doesn't make any sense, but sometimes, after step 5, i prefer connect it to usb port in a laptop or computer and wait one hour. It always worked with me.
It might solve your problem .
Wiping battery stats does nothing. it just takes a few charge cycles. If it's a new rom and it's draining fast it's also cause you are probably playing with it a lot

It could be a bluesleep problem... Install CPU Spy App and look if it goes into deep sleep mode. If not, there is a fix for it.
Aside from the OP's issue with the battery draining quickly, why does it matter if it doesn't show 100%?
Nothing can ever 'really' be 100% charged because as soon as you take it off mains it is instantly on the battery at lets say 99.9999%...
As long as the battery doesn't drain quickly I couldn't care less if its showing 99 or 100%.
The problem was that it was draining very quickly to smt like 50% and then it would hold longer...I just wiped everything, restored a neutrino 2.7 nandroid backup i had, flashed the jug fix v2 and now it shows 100%

[Q] New battery, at 1% for 6 hours

I decided to replace my 2+ year old Atrix battery with an OEM battery. Since then I can charge to 100% just fine (ran the battery fixing apps and did a wipe battery cache thing) but the battery discharges visibly, like down 4% for a single google search, and gets stuck at 1% for many hours. I used an app to see the voltage and it tops out at 4.2v and levels out at I think 3.5v and dies around 3.2-3v if I remember correctly. Anyway, I just don't know how long the phone will last but it is lasting most of the day. Even turning setcpu off I run for hours with a battery drain app and stay at 1%.
Using MROM-1-0.20120505-olympus. I think this is still considered CM7.
Kernel 2.6.32.59-MB860-MROM-ga43d614.
I dont see your question...
Any way I think you need a few charge-discharge cycles to make your battery statistics work.

Okay, the question is what can I do to make the drop more linear rather than going from 100 to 1 in an hour and staying at 1 the rest of the day.
And I've charged discharged half a dozen times with no change.
As you have tried, I don't have better ideas.
I like checking the voltage reading, rather than the percentage value. It usually makes more sense above 3.6V.
Delete all files (or even better copy somewhere for backup) in /data/battd/. Turn off your phone, charge it few hours after led become green, remove battery with charger connected, wait for "?", place battery again and charge it for about 1 hour, turn phone on with charger connected, check battery level, wait to 4200mV and 100%, finally disconect charger. Use phone without recharging until it turn itself off or reach 1%. Then charge it and use normally.
I did it with new battery and now works great, charge to 4200mV, 100% and discharge to 1%

I have the EXACT same problem as original poster, and i see my battery dying to 1% within couple of hours, and then remaining on 1% for rest of the day! This is misleading and most of time i have no idea how much more my phone will go on. All this despite the fact that i bought my battery paying 35 bucks to get it directly from Amazon!
Tried doing what Zeljko1234 has said in his post above, but to no avail. The problem remains as it is. Anybody else faced this issue and found a resolution? Will hard reset or rooting help? Appreciate any help
