What do those letters refer to when talking about ROMS etc - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am looking to flash a ROM to my SGS3 but have to start again as a noob.
I have used mskips tool to root the phone ( i think ) In the tools menus it gives an option to download a stock ROM from samsung-roms i think and it gives some different versions that end in:
XXALE8
XXALEF etc, etc
What do these refer to and how do i find what is suitable for me/most up to date.
My carrier is T-Mob UK and the letters from my Device Info page is BVALE4...not sure it is the same thing yet but im guessing so. I am first looking to try a stock/rooted ROM and then i will probably move up to custom stuf once my knowledge grows a little...along with my confidence. Any pointers welcome.
Best Regards

[Q] How to learn what's my original stock rom?

I want to get back to my stock rom but checking *#1234# won't work for me because it brings the info from rom.
I bought my phone from a small phone shop abroad so I don't really know the origin of the phone.
Is there any other way to learn what is the origin of the phone and what stock rom would work for me?
I dont really understand the question but if you want to check the phone info so go to settings - about phone

You need to get the details of the phone off the box and from under the battery .
Then its guesswork unless you saved your original details .
Replacing firmware has wiped the original firmware details .

So does that mean I can flash any stock rom I want? When I checked the "guide to download and flash stock rom" there is a list of different stock roms(based on countries and/or gsm operators). and I know that different phones have different hw modules(camera etc). I wonder if any stock rom would be fine with any device out there?

I think that as long as you flash a Stock ROM with your contry code / region enabled, you shouldnt have any problems. For example, if you have an US phone, I wouldn't flash an indian Stock ROM in it...

[Q] I'm Not 100% Sure witch stock I need.

Hello,
This is a fantastic site with very knowledgeable people. You are all fantastic (Please don't flame me for being a numpty)
My question is, I have a SG2 that I got from dialaphone in the uk. I understand that even though it's on O2 it's an unlocked rom (tried diffrent simcards) I've tried so many roms and such I was hoping to get back to stock for the official ICS update.
I've trawled through samfirmware and this site and google to try and find the correct stock rom/firmware I need but I;m getting confused by the different UK roms and firmwares on samfirmware.com
Can one of you fantastic folks please point me in the right direction of the official stock rom for my phone, preferentially gingerbread. If it is an older version that would be cool too as I could then easily update via Kies.
Thanks lots in advance,
Henshu
By the way, sorry for the spelling.

[Q] Which firmware to install?

Hi everyone, I am new here. I just returned i9100g for a i9100. Anyways as I look for the i9100 firmware at sammobile.com, there are tons of ICS available. Which one will I install?
Also I am in Bangladesh, however we get mixed region phones: Sometimes from Malaysia, Singapore, France, etc. How do I know which region I have, so it can guide to install the proper ICS.
I installed XXLPJ, everything works well, however I noticed that just like my initial i9100g, whenever I use the voice to setup alarm, it doesn't work. I fixed this problem when I installed the proper region firmware for my phone, which was French at that time. The problem is I don't know which region of the phone this actually is.
Any idea?
Thank you
I dont think different regional firmwares will make any difference in your alarm settings too...
you can check the firmware information by dailing *#1234#
ROM selection
you can have a look for the language supported by that rom, you can also go for custom rom, language information was given there that it support these many language.
Also i am agree with "zaheedahmed" that "regional firmwares will make any difference in your alarm settings" i guess this the bug with that version of ROM, so it better to upgrade your ROM.
Thanks for your responses. What do I need to look after after for the latest firmware, android version? Cause there are tons of 4.0.3

if you want to remain on stock roms, for bangladesh already ICS official rom available now http://www.sammobile.com/firmware/?page=3&t=1&o=1&m=GT-I9100&r=2#
or your can root your phone and install any custom ICS rom...go for any popular one after reading reviews of the respective ROM thread

[Q][REQUEST] Three UK stock ROMs & Kernels please GB/ICS/JB?

The old thread doesn't have the Three UK available. Can someone be kind enough to link me to the relevant site or thread as I've looked everywhere.
I would prefer JB but will also like GB if possible, thanks.
P.S I am registered to sammobile.com but I cannot see 3 UK in the options.
Edit: I downloaded a stock ROM from sammobile, made a 2nd ROM partition in recovery but it would not flash. Is this because of it being a 2nd ROM or do I need to flash via ODIN?

2.3.5 gingerbread stock uk rom needed

Hi guys, need a working link for 2.3.5 gingerbread uk stock rom I9100BUKJ3_I9100VODKI2_VOD.zip
or 2.3.5 on o2 or unbranded uk stock 2.3.5
I need to repair my imei/efs folder with a Z3X box, and the firmware needs to be on 2.3.5, and no i have no backup of the efs folder.
tried sammobile and android firmwares but no luck
thanks.
If Samfirmware, AndroidFirmwares.net or Samsung-Updates.com don't have what you want, you're SOOL.
You won't find it anywhere else, the chances of someone reading this who coincidentally has a copy handy these days is zero given how few people read/post here - there's a fair chance you'll be sitting there in a month & probably won't even get another reply to this thread (and the reason for that is as above; those 3 places are the only places you're going to source a 3 yr old firmware for a 3yr old phone).
Besides, why do you think need that particular firmware ? I'm not seeing why you can't use any other firmware for your country/carrier. If I were in your situation, I'd be investigating that one, otherwise you probably won't be fixing it.
Its whats recommended on gsmforum in the z3x repair guide forum.
Thanks.

I'd be checking the date of whatever you're reading. Are you sure it's not dated around the time this phone was released ? If it is, that would explain why that firmware is recommended (may well have been the only firmware available at the time).
Essentially, firmware is firmware, the differences between them are minimal - only differences are the modems, and carrier-specific 'crapware'. The kernels are sometimes a little different depending on date of release (maybe different Linux kernel version), but the main differences happen when you're talking about roms with different Android versions (GB-ICS-JB). Even then, I'm not seeing why you need a specific firmware for an EFS repair/IMEI re-write.
Up to you what you do, but as I said, expect to still be looking for this firmware weeks from now if you insist you need that & only that one.
Used 123unlock to repair imei,
tried with 4.1.2 firmware, didn't work managed to find an o2 2.3.5 gingerbread firmware and it worked first time imei now repaired.
Check out 123unlock if you get stuck with no imei and no efs backup, it worked for me, but it cost me €21 to use their online repair server.
