Well, I know I promised not to bring any more contributions to the 4.0 forums until the 1st...but I lied. I out of boredom/curiosity popped off the back of my 4.0 today, to get some shots of it, as I have not been able to find a good teardown of the 4.0. Since I, of course need mine to continue development,
I did not go farther than popping the back off, for risk of disassembling something I would not be able to reassemble, although anyone who wants to do that to their replaced/bricked 4.0 feel free to do so, so we can better identify components within. I would assume that many of the components are similar/identical to their sgs counterparts, but it would still be nice to have a teardown for ourselves.
To keep this thread interesting and relevant, I need you guys to help me identify the various components inside the 4.0, and get info on them. I will add more shots as more people take them/I get bored again, and I will get better shots later on (I was shaking from the pseudo-excitement of seeing the insides, and the worry that I was going to bork my device).
Feel free to discuss/ponder/worry about what's inside!
NOTE: the pics are HUGE right now. There is no way I can fix that without degradin the quality, so I will leae them as-is for now, and attach them to OP later.

Yeah, I popped mine off out of curiosity a while ago, but didn't get further. There was a teardown over on the anythingbutipod forums.

Hmm, maybe I can include some of those photos and use them to start identifying components (think ifixit), although I will not be able to go farther unless someone fully disassembles theirs.

Yes, that would be very helpful, as long as you don't mind if you cannot put it back together 100% after tearing it down. I could make this a 5.0 teardown thread as well, and help both users. It should not be too hard to do, there are just a lot of screws on the back, and some ribbon cables to detach.

For most long time Samsung users, you probably already know about Samsungs service menu. And if you've spent enough time (too much time) on a Galaxy S II (I know at least the Sprint SGSII also has this), you likely have already seen a photo that doesn't appear anywhere else on your phone.
For those of you who haven't, here you go.
(note: this may not come up if you are running a custom rom)
1. Open your stock phone dialer and type in *#0*#

Once you type in the last # it will auto open.
2. Go to Sensor
3. Last step. Choose the Image Test button near the top of the screen
Chihuahua!
Seems nobody knows why Samsung chose to go with a picture of a dog or what it's name is. Any thoughts?

I guess I spend too much time prowling through debug menus, because I found that one already a few weeks ago...
Wonder whose dog it is?
Man, on UnNamed 1.3.0, and I type in the numbers in the dialer, and upon the last input, the numbers disappear and nothing happens
I tried doing it a few times in a row, Nothin

Ditto. 1.3.1 here. I assume gtg removed something?
I'm not sure about that either. It only brings it up when you're on 100% stock.
Sent from my páhhōniē
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think it's part of the lcdtest program that gtg removed in 1.3.
I ran across this a couple weeks ago. I got a good laugh out of it.
Of all things why a chihuahua? lol. Funny nevertheless.
This is cool!
Fun little find
That's funny!

Put an ice cream sandwich on it and see if it runs faster!!!
Can we get an "Asshat" section setup to this forum and move some of these threads there?
Have you tried stripping one end of a extension cord and wiring it up to your device, see if you can get some more juice to it and overlock!! Also you may also consider adding a hamster + wheel for extra umph.
I know huh...I had to reply with that comment, couldn't help myself....we should have a TFP BS Thread section......would be at least a place for many laughs.
Is that 32geebees?

yes but does it come in purple? I mean metallic grey?
If you take 20+ steps away, is the text still readable?
does it have a search option? if not maybe you need more geebees xD
is it faster than the overclocked HP touchpad a fellow member put a video up comparing Prime to? we all know how fast that thing is
Hey, and its already rooted! You can access all the files!

Come on everyone lighten up a little. Be happy! Enjoy the comedy don't take life so seriously.
BTW: I have root access right out of the box and no encrypted bootloader. The nice thing about it is I can change the Rolodex cards to any style and color I want and I still get my warranty
I agree, among all this turmoil we can use some clowning.
*coughs* so.. Handwriting recognition is great, too!
The best part is that you don't have to buy a stylus! It also works with a BIC Pen! Now that's what i called backward compatibility.

Couldn't you have said the person on Craigslist must have done something to it since you bricked it so soon after receiving it? That's what I would have said.

2 days ago I traded my HTC Vivid for a Galaxy Note with a dude on Craigslist (dumb move on his part) & within less than 24 hours of having it, I managed to hard brick it by flashing an incompatible kernel. Completely my fault.
LUCKILY, I took the phone into an AT&T store and played the dumb card. After about 45 minutes of going back & forth with the store manager and a warranty agent on the phone, they decided to send me a brand new replacement at no charge. Should be here Monday.
I feel like I really lucked out seeing as to how I traded with someone on Craigslist.. I really thought I was screwed!

Don't understand. Are you bragging about making a totally avoidable mistake or how you lied to AT&T reps? Either way I don't see too much to shout about.

Edit: this is exactly why manufacturers lock the bootloader. People like you ruin development. IMHO!

I couldn't agree more
If people are flashing things they should at least be responsible for messing up.
And this also could be a good reason why apple is closed source

Is this on all screens and not just the test screen? What have you recently done to your phone?
Don't quote, reply. If you quote, edit.
Yeah its on all screens when I have the spen on that area of the screen the onscreen icon bounces alk over the place like I have tremors in my hands. Since I acquired this unit from eBay I have no idea of its history but I can assure you that I have not done anything to this unit. If I had gotten this unit from a carrier I would have a plane on it and have it exchanged it by now but I don't have that luxury. The only other thing can think of is to replace the entire screen unit but that is not worth the price since I got a really good deal on the entire unit. If I was to go that route I might as well replace the entire unit for the price I paid for it ya know?

Well, I'm thinking you should flash the correct stock rom. Whether you want the latest Jelly Bean or the previous Ice Cream Sandwich is a personal choice, but make it 100% stock to erase any previous work.
If that clears up your issue, good. If not, then you know its the hardware.
Did you try another pen from another phone or tablet?
I am thinking its a hardware problem cause I am running stock and it has persisted from ICS and I bought an spend for a note 10 cause I wanted something bigger, insert joke here, and the issue is still there. Unfortunaly for me, I no longer have the funds to acquire a new display kit so I guess I am gonna have to live with the issue... Thank you for your ideas I do appreciate it

I had the same issue and is persistent amongst roms. It's a miss-aligned reader for the spen. it was very common in a lot of the first run models. I have the same issue even right now with my refurb though on the right side of my screen but and not as bad but my initial Note had the exact same border as yours.
Thank you for the answer and I can only assume that there is no way to correct this issue

Hi There,
My wife just got her S5 and right from the get go she started noticing issues. She then restarted it and it worked fine for a small length of time. From what I can gather it has a yellow screen and when you try and do anything it kicks it back to a black screen. So essentially you can't do anything with it. I've played around with lot's of phones but never had something quite like this on a brand new phone that just arrived.
Here are a couple pictures that she sent me. If any of you can give any insight it's greatly appreciated. I've been scowering the web as I'm a work right now and I can't turn up anything.

I appreciate the suggestion. I'll give it a try, it can't really hurt anything. I worry it's something in the display/hardware itself of which it's my understanding Tmobile has them backordered at this point.
Thank you,
~Chris
Definitely return/exchange that when you can. I'd even go by just to tell them so they don't pull any "hey why didn't you come in earlier?" stuff on ya. But that's definitely a hardware issue that shouldn't be happening.

No problem. Doesn't matter if it's back ordered or not, new shipments come every week. You payed for a new phone and that's what you should get. For future reference make sure you also get the handset protection if you don't have it.
