[Q] Can't boot, cannot wipe data - Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I recently tried to factory reset data via CWM recovery. After that, my Phone is stopping at initial screen where it shows Samsung Galaxy SII GT-19100. I can go to download and recovery mode. I can even flash the stock ROMS using ODIN(I tried several). But I cannot pass the initial boot screen. I again tried to factory reset datra in stock recovery mode. But the operation gets stuck and phone restarts after few minutes. Could this be a symptom of EMMC Brickbug? My Flash counter is 0 and phone is under warranty. Can I claim warranty if its a hardbrick? Thanks

I seem to have the same issue. Although it won't go in to recovery mode. Only download.
I can't seem to get Odin to see it either. HELP PLEASE!

Have you tried wiping the dalvik cache?

at least you are not that Noob to provide ur Firmware info for sure right.
which rom/kernel u ver before this issue etc, so that it would be easy for people to help u out with the same

This issue happened with the latest official Nordic Countries NEE(4.0.4) firmware. Now I have flashed old Indian firmware also. But no change..

I remember someone else had a problem like this and what he did is flash using the bootloader option in odin instead of pda. Try looking into that, don't do this before researching but it's an idea...

OK. For some reason using Odin on my PC wouldn't work. It couldn't see the phone.
I loaded Odin 1.8 on to my Laptop and it connected to the phone.
I then followed this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1449771 using a newer version of Odin, which also works on the Laptop but not the PC.
I had to re-root the phone etc. I've since reflashed Resurrection Remix and all is fine.
Any ideas why Odin may not work on my PC? All the drivers are loaded and I have removed Kies. Both PC and Laptop are Win 7

Did you try a different usb port on your pc? That's the only logical reason I can think of, or you may have uninstall the drivers by accident when you uninstalled kies

Guys, I found that my phone was a victim of emmc hardbrick bug. I tried the patched PIT file and phone started working. But after sometime it got shut and not turning on at all.. Its totally dead. I am sending it now to Samsung service center.

It doesn't sound like a hard brick because in a hard brick your phone won't even power up! Do you have the yellow triangle at initial screen? If not then yes you can claim warranty

first of all u should not do anything with the stock recovery of 4.0.4 ma8.
since the stock kernel's of android v4.0.4 are prone to 'eMMc' brick bug.
u cannot flash a custom ROM/KERNEL from stock recovery in the first place
u could have flashed the siyah kernel from odin in the first place, which could have safegaurded ur phone from brick bug issue
now do not do too much experiment on ur phone since it might potentially get hardbricked.
if ur phone is still under warranty take it to ur nearest Samsung service center and get it repaired F.O.C
I have to go at orange's service, but i don't know what i can tell them, because if they see that i changed the rom they will not repair it, and i will loose the warranty. There isn't a way to repair it myself?

Thank you Sun90 for the help. Yesterday night i installed syiah kernel, wiped everything, also the internal sdcard and installed my carrier 4.0.4 rom. This morning i went to the orange shop and the customer looked at binary counter and everything looks fine. He turned on the phone in download mode and flashed with odin a pit file i think(because he said that i will loose every data i had on the phone), and failed(in odin). He said that he will send it to the samsung central service i think, and it will be repared. I am happy that i didn't loose the warranty. I wish they will send me a new phone )
I think you got hardbrick

[Q] [HELP!] S3 wont even boot

So my S3 went into a boot loop. And I dont know how I got to this point but now the phone wont even boot, when plugged in to my comp it shows the battery symbol but its greyed out with the circle in the middle, and it stays like that. If i hold the power putton it comes up with the Galaxy SIII GT i9300 screen but then goes back to the battery. I can get it to go into download mode though. I think somehow I may have deleted all the files required for the phone to actually boot(Im a n00b so im not completely sure) Can somebody please help me?
I was on custom ROM before and my binary counter is at 4, so sending into samsung doesn't sound like a great idea :/
Thanks for the help and sorry if this has been asked before, I have searched for hours.

If you also can go into recovery, try to wipe. In addition did you flash any custom kernel?
If not, try to reflash a rom with odin after you got into download mode or did you try this already?

If you mean with CWM mod, no I cant, it just shows the Galaxy S3 GT i9300 screen then goes black. Yes i did have a custom kernel, I believe it was the latest Perseus one. I already tried this with a stock rom and it idnt work, it said it had passed but i still can boot the phone.

as you can go into download mode but not recovery, what about flashing CWM another time (if you did not try it already). Maybe it solves the issue with recovery and from there you could go on trying to wipe etc.
Other options would be to do a mega or super wipe (if this is possible from odin & download mode, not sure though), to get your phone completely empty (mega) or at least to factory reset (super).

The thing is there is nothing wrong with my phone in terms of hardware. The problem that I am having is purely software, I think I just need to restore my phone to a previous version. I did see that thread but didnt feel my post belonged there as my problem is nothing to do with broken battery or mobo or anything along those lines. Hence why I am posting here

I did install a stock ROM and it was still stuck on bootloop, left it like that for an hour, still nothing. So I went into CWM (after flashing it) Wiped and factory reset (noticing it said error mounting /data but ignored) and then restored with a backup I had. it did say error mounting /data and so skipped that step. Still stuck in boot loop. now that I try wiping again the same error occurs, error mounting /data any ideas please?

GT-I9300 Boot Loop after numerous try! HELP!

Hello.
Currently I have Samsung GT-I9300 (international edition ) that I bought from UAE. But I am already in Indonesia right now.
My s3 is currently at boot loop.
After digging around in the forum, I found a number of things to try.
Here is the list of things I have done:
1. I tried flashing stock rom using odin pc. The stock I used is the newest ( I9300XXEMC3_I9300NEEEMC1_NEE). Result from ODIN: Succeed. But the boot loop is still looping!!
2.Then I tried flashing cmw recovery because I can't get into recovery at all. After flashing, there's red exclamation mark on upper left corner with the Samsung logo. And still cannot get into recovery using the combo (vol up+home+power) button, it wouldnt go into recovery at all and keep showing me the samsung logo.
3.Next I tried flashing the rescue firmware in i9000 post (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=40509099#post40509099). I used the XXELLA. Flashed the pit, csc, pda and bootloader. The boot loop still persist.
4.The last thing I did is bring it to Samsung service center. They tried flashing their current (Indonesian) stock rom but the problem also persists. They advised that I need to change the mainboard in UAE where the phone is originally from. They said because after changing mainboard , they need to re inject IMEI. And can only do that in original country. And they informed me the flash also succeed thru odin, it's just the boot loop is still looping...
In download mode the product name still presents. (I read a post in this forum saying if the product name still persists then the mainboard is not fried (is the information correct?)
And all flashing thru odin give me succeed message. This indicates my mainboard is still safe.
My problem now is I cannot get into reocvery and the boot loop persists.
I believe that my problem would be not being able to wipe data /cache as I can't get into recovery mode.
So my question is can I wipe data and cache using odin ? If yes, coudd anyone tell me how?
Also, please advise me on what else to try on my S3.
I am really desperate and out of ideas.
Your help would be greatly appreciated !
Thank you.

I'm not sure if this helps, but I have two points:
the red exclamation mark is usual after flashing non-Samsung images.
If you check "Re-Partition" in Odin, the data should be wiped.
DISCLAIMER: No guaranty! Your're using Odin at your own risk
If you have wiped data it old be damaged NAND flashing stock and a data wipe should fix any software problems.

Hi JJE,
so the symptoms i posted point to a damanged Nand?
would it be posssible that the Nand is damaged and i still manage to flash stock rom via ODIN without any error message?
thanks for your help.
One flash stock rom = failed .
Two Recovery = failed
Flash Rescue firmware = failed
Service centre answer = needs a motherboard .
Possible try

seems like you are new on xda, so welcome buddy,
download a firmware from sammobile, you have to register yourself, before you can download anything, dont worry, its free. flash this one file via odin3 v3.04, drop the file to PDA, connect your phone with USB and go to download mode, start just everything from begin.
i have tried all the things but i cannot solve the problems
Have you tried flashing a different Kernet?
True, did you try a other kernel ? Dorimanx v8.34, its good, by my side, its perfect, not bugged etc. flash via odin

Do a full wipe. It will get you out of the boot loop (hopefully)
Why does it 'not work'? There's gotta be a reason. Does odin fail when it flashes? If so, click the link in my signature and follow those steps.
And you do have an i9100 right? If you do, flash JB leak using odin. Download it from samfirmware. Its a 3 part firmware, and will wipe your device as it flashes. Give it a go.
i have tried all the things done flashing , stock and custom kernels and also the pit files but the behaviour is still the same ......
There"s no quick fix for this (other than buying a new phone) afraid you're here for the 'long haul'........
Look at @Hopper8 s guide for troubleshooting a failed Odin flash and follow it exactly (all steps) and repeat (all steps) as often as is necessary.........
......Unless you've done irreparable harm by flashing a pit file......

i had the same prob. Solution is easy. Just download the originial stock rom. You can flash this by using odin. Select pda and your file (should be a .tar file). good luck!
Firmware upgrade on a custom stock ROM ?? You don't do that. Do as above or you could flash philz kernel through Odin and restore you're bk up.
I had the same problem, but I thought,if firmware upgrade encounters an issue , you can't enter download mode

Tried flashing Kernel with ODIN also tried flashing a stock official ROM. No luck. Kernel gets stuck at NAND Write and ROM says FAIL.
Search for Hopper8's 'Odin troubleshooting' thread. Try the stuff in that thread. Keep trying it. Only way you're fixing it is if you get it to successfully take an Odin flash.
I had the same problem, and flashing the Stock official ROM with Odin worked for me, just make sure you're using the correct version of Odin, I think I had to try one or two different versions before the flash worked for me.

Everything stops inbetween. The only thing I havent tried is flashing a bootloader. Since I'm out of options and replacing is too expensive for a 3yr old phone im willing to risk anything now. Thing is I was on neatROM jb 4.1.2 was this problem happened so which bootloader file can I try flashing via odin?

MistahBungle is right, no magic tricks here. If you really have followed through the entirety of my guide, and done it again on a different pc, and still no luck, then I'm afraid it's done for unfortunately. The one step I'd encourage you to try over again is flashing the 3 part firmware again. If you're satisfied that you've nothing more to try then throw it out. Or send it to me or MistahBungle.

Try flashing just cwm through odin. Then may be you can fix problems. Just a thought mate.
SO now that my phone has been officially declared dead is there any way to recover some data from it? I have a few recordings and photos that are on the phone and I can get it into download mode so is there any possibility of data recovery?
Unlikely. A company who specialises in recovery of data from dead HDD's might be able to help, but it's very much a longshot & will be very expensive if possible.

The phone is NOT dead. You van save it by forcing it to download mode by usb jig (1$ on ebay), then flash unsecure kernel (like Siyah/Dori with CWM inside) using Odin. If you're unable to do it by yourself - take the device to a cellphone repair shop.
