So I upgraded my ROM from das bamf 1.6.3 to 1.8, and backup all my apps using Titanium backup. Well when I restore my apps, they all force close. If I restore just the app and no data, it works. But when I restore the data they start force closing. Any ideas on how to get this fixed?
hmm...I've never heard of this happening before as long as I've used it. You are only restoring data for User apps right? Restoring system app data can cause FC's but I've never heard of it happening to user apps unless the data is corrupt.
You may want to make a nandroid, then load your backup of 1.6.3 and force redo all your backups then load load your 1.8 backup again and restore.
The only other thing I can think of is that TiBu is not setup the same as in the other installation. When you were on 1.6.3, did you select "Auto-sync TB settings" from the preferences menu so that they carry over? Also, TiBu is installed to the same place as before right (/system/app vs /data/app)?
I did not have auto sync setup. I did a batch backup of user apps before flashing my ROM. I tried individually restoring the user apps vs doing batch as well. I am not sure if titanium backup is installed in the same place. If I uninstall titanium backup, will I lose my backups? I might uninstall and reinstall titanium backup from the market

did you make a clockwork backup before going to the new rom version? if so then re flash 1.8 and then go into recovery and select advanced restore and then do data only from your 1.6.3. that should restore all your apps exactly as they were in 1.6.3 and totally bypass titanium so you could at least scratch that off the list if it doesnt work...

No, you won't lose your backups. They are in the TitaniumBackup folder on your sdcard which remains there regardless of whether TiBu is installed or not.

Not a great idea since that would restore all system data too.
If it's the same rom, that would be fine but it's likely to cause problems with upgrades (not always but usually).
Hmm can't uninstall TiBu. It came as part of the ROM I believe. I am kind of bummed to lose all my games progress

That's what's causing your problem then. I've noticed that data backups made with a /data/app installed TiBu have problems being restored from a /system/app version. That's why I initially asked if it was installed to the same place on both installations.
Manually remove the apk from /system/app using a file explorer or terminal (and pm uninstall it if you wish) then install from Market. Then you should be able to restore you backed up data.
If you want to know how to manually uninstall something (other than just deleting the apk using a file manager) check here: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/Barebones

Yea. Like 90% of my apps don't work. Even ones from the market.

There is no reason it shouldn't if you know how to do it. That's why I included that link.

Like I said, if your previous backups were made with a version of TiBu that you installed from the Market then you need to install it from Market again to restore that data.
So, get a file explorer that performs root operations and delete TitaniumBackup.apk from /system/app.
Or in terminal type:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /system
rm -f /system/app/TitaniumBackup.apk
reboot
You may have to verify that is what the apk is named.
Anyway, after that, install TiBu from the Market, open it, and restore whatever apps and user data you want.
Thanks for all the help so far absolute_zero. I am having an issue where when I try the mount line, I get a message telling me the flags to use for mount. I am not that Linux savvy, but I am guessing it thinks I have an inappropriate flag set up or something. Any ideas?
I use titanium backup all the time. I flash roms probably every three or four days if you average it out.
One thing I had problems with once before was using titanium backup that was installed with the ROM. Ive done it both ways, restored my titanium pro using the regular titanium in the ROM, and just downloading and reinstalling the pro version from the market. Once I got my normal pro version installed it went like butter. I sync to Google, let the market install as many apps as possible and manually install a few important ones, then filter to user and "backed up". Once I have that list I batch restore missing apps and all app data.
Rooted Thunderbolt on BAMF Sense 3.0 RC 4 with MR2 radio and latest dreamKernel.
Awesome got it uninstalled, and the backups are working now. Had to uninstall it through adb though. Thanks for the help everyone.
Help,
Found similar topics but no real solution.
Was on Wolf v6s. Backed up all my apps. Went back to stock with SEUS, installed titanium restore and choose batch.
All my apps are greyed out! I can't manually restore them. it just says: What would you like to do? and no buttons to click. They are stored on SD/titaniumbackup
No problems restoring my messages, wifi connections, ...
Please don't tell me that it's lost cause I really need them.
What titanium version do you have? Pro or root? If you have pro can you try root.
If thats not working then go
Settings>Applications>Titanium Backup>and select clear data or cache
If thats still not working, uninstall then install again.

I just have root. Clear cache didn't do anything cause I had to reinstall titanium after full wipe.
Reinstalling also didn't do a thing, cause i just installed it after wipe.
I'm still hoping
Use root explorer or astro file manager. Go to sd files, open titanium folder, and either install from there or cut and paste to data/apps then reboot.

Used Titanium Back apps for several months. Had no system problems. Needed a bit more internal memory free and decided to uninstall the stock gingerbread music app ( which i backup and then I uninstalled it) because I use other music players and it has been listed as being safe to remove w/o system probs.
Samsung galaxy y
Stock 2.3.6 Froyo ROM
Before doing anymore uninstalls I wanted to see if i could restore this. Titanium Backup Pro just hangs indefinitely when trying to restore the stock music.apk app. Have to kill it. Using Root Explorer and ES File Manager, I am able to see the app in the system/app folder after doing this but it does not show in the app drawer.
What I've Tried:
1. Contacted Titanium Support. Great guys and very helpful. Cannot stress this enough and the app is awesome. They suggested taking the apk from the backup files and moving it using adb.
Result: Moved the file but would not show up in app drawer.
2. Found the stock music.apk in system/app folder using Root Explorer
Result: Tried rebooting. Did not work. Tried factory reset from Privacy Menu. Still not in app drawer.
please help guys!!!!!!!!!!!! how to fix this????
Have you tried clearing the data for Music app? When I've restored apps with Titanium, sometimes the data is corrupted or something and I have to clear the data.
You can always try uninstalling it and pushing a new music program with adb.
Hi,
I have about 120 user-apps installed which I installed through Titanium Backup Pro 5 yesterday. Now when I want to back them up again (new settings, new apps and so on) and go into the Batch restore/backup window it shows as if I haven't got a single app installed. It just says 0 everywhere in there.
I've tried deleting data and uninstalling, rebooted and installed Titanium again, nothing.
Switched back and forth with where the storage is kept (internal SD, External SD emmc).
- Running Cyanogenmod 9, nightly 23/4 (should tell you I've never had this problem before and have flashed every CM9 nightly since start Jan 1 2012).
- Gapps for ICS from 22 April
- Busybox 1.18.4 from app installed and OK
and
- SQLite also OK (Says Titanium Backup)
Where do I go from here?
You have a problem with an application which has its own website including links for support.

Hi,
Yup, always factory wipe, wipe cache and Dalvik Cache when flashing a new ROM.
Titanium is version 5.0
I don't remember which version Titanium was when I last ran a backup. ~3 days ago.
The backup folder is full of backups, but they're from ~3 days ago, it's what I used to restore all the apps to this nightly version. It's just that I can't backup any more apps because Titanium says I don't have any apps installed!?
I've made a backup on both PC, emmc and internal SD.
Number of app data elements it says is 225, still shows nothing under "Backup", only under Restore.
I think you are confused, you have installed all the application from TB backup and all the applications are already backed up, then definetely it will show there is 0 application to backup...
if you want to make a fresh backup, move all data to your PC from Titaniumbackup forlder and wipe cache of the TB and try..
Update or reinstall TB then reboot .
jje
Got fed up.
Booted into CWM touch, format data, clear cache, clear dalvik
Reinstall CM9 25/4, reinstall Gapps 22/4.
Reboot.
Downloaded ES file explorer from Play. Copied everything from internal SD to "_Backup"-folder.
Installed Titanium Backup.
Copied my PC-basckup of the Titanium Backup folder.
Restored everything from Titanium Backup.
Now everything works fine again.
UPDATE:
Apparently it's Super SU that's causing Titanium Backup to go haywire. As soon as I installed that and let it become the main Superuser app it screwed up Titanium Backup.
Confirming and an easier way
I had the exact same problem and the culprit seems to be su elite which I had bought a week previous to discovering this.
You do not need to uninstall or reflash cmw. You only need to rename the backup file + delete Titanium cache and data from applications setup.

I've just had this problem crop up. I'm not using su elite. Complete wipe and flash hasn't helped. Renaming the backup file and clearing TiBU's cache and data does make the "number of data elements" report something other than "0." But attempting a backup of any kind shows 0 apps.
Luckily I am able to pull apps and data from my nandroid backup, but that's several days old, and it does nothing for the actual need of a TiBU backup.

What I did to resolve the same issue you guys were having was to rename the backup folder, create a quick back up of an app so the folder gets regenerated. Then plugged phone to PC and deleted the files with "squares" in the file name as other invalid characters in them (besides the a-z, 0-9, and symbols). Copied the old files to the new back up folder and all my backups are being read just fine.
I didn't even have to uninstall the app or clear it's cache or data.

Thanks. I ended up taking another route. I was on the same track you present, but I didn't do the step where you created a quick backup to generate the folder. I was copying the "cleaned" backup to it's original folder and that didn't work. So I pretty much started from scratch, and restored some files from the nandroid.
I'll certainly try your method if it happens again.:fingers-crossed:
Had the Same Issue..
Hi,
I Had the Same Issue, did the whole thing, uninstalling installing, removing TB folder, Removing TB folders from data/data, re-installing again.. didn't help..
The case at my end is that i saw only one app, and at TB main page, at the page headline i saw only that app name, so i tried pressing the search icon at the headline and searched for another app, it was found and the headline change as well to that app name.. so i searched again but this time did a general filter that would probably fit to all of my apps, and it worked ! all of my apps got back to the backup/restore list and to the group batch operation.
Hope this help someone..

I was pulling my hair out - this method was the only one that worked (I tried the others that were suggested). Relieved.
Search worked!
I had the same issue, and the search worked!
I just started a search for any app, once it found it all other apps reappeared at once.
Thanks!
I got a replacement Galaxy s3 through insurance and I had been using "GoBackup" to backup app and data. However it didn't appear to have restored any of the appdata. I believe it may have been restoring to /data/data/data/data instead of /data/data but when I tried to copy and paste the folders to their proper location the app won't work anymore. It will just say "unfortunately, app has stopped work" whenever I try to launch the app again.
I have also tried copying the appdata folder directly from a CWM backup and tried to paste it on the new phone under /data/data and this seemed to provide some results however after rebooting the phone the data gets wiped and it's back to as if the app was freshly installed.
I can't figure out what I'm missing. Anyone have any insight?
P.S. The new phone has TWRP since it has the locked bootloader. So I couldn't just restore my CWM backup to it. The old phone got bricked trying to installed TWRP Recovery.

I was actually having the same idea. If I coppied the appdata from /data/data/data/data to /data/data, then tried to run the app it would crash every time I try to launch it. Then if I rebooted the phone it would delete all the appdata in /data/data that I copied over.
However this time I decided to copy it over again, then take a TitaniumBackup of the app+data even though the app kept crashing when I tried to launch it. Uninstalled the app, then did a titanium restore, and for some reason it worked.
