Hello everyone. I have a galaxy s3 i535 on verizon wireless. I am currently rooted and have CWM and a backup of CyanogenMod10 (jellybean). I am currently on stock ICS my phone shipped with. My question is how to i get rid of CWM and my root. I want to be ready for JB OTA. Also, does my bootloader need to be locked when i accept OTA updates?
I want my phone back to just like it came when i took it out of the box.

This might help. Post in there.

Root has nothing to do with ota updates, if you update rooted phone it will most likely loose it during the process. What you need is bootloader locked, unlocked bootloader on ota upgrade can brick the device
Do i need to get rid of cwm and my backups first?

I'm pretty sure yes, you do need stock recovery but you can keep your backups, those are just files saved onto the SD card

How do o get rid of it?
Sent from my SCH-I535 using xda app-developers app
No you don't need to get rid of it...as i said before the only thing required is locked bootloader, the update will overwrite anything on the sytem partition and eventually will get erased with the update. If you really want to return to stock find the stock .ftf file for your phone and flash it using flashtools or odin similar program..it's all explained in section 6 of the link posted by .xxx. second post of this thread....
Ok i dont want to brick it. So all i need to do is lock ny bootloader the when i get jb ota i wont brick it

Just read here if you want further proof, it's in the sony forum but same rules apply to all devices

Hi everyone,
I'm a member of the french android community Frandroid and today another member posted that he received, via OTA, the Jelly Bean update for the RAZR !!
No idea yet on what version of ICS he was but the leak is the build number 982.83.3.XT910.Retail.en.EU !
And he says he has not applied for any beta program.
This is such a good news oO !
Here is the link to the post :
http://forum.frandroid.com/topic/13...ur-nos-cheres-xt910/page__st__20#entry2167080
And I join the screenshots too 'cause I think you need to have an account on the forum to see them.
From what i understand, he has not copied the ota file from cache folder ? I started to think that we might get official jb late january or mid february
Merci for the good news !
So that means that's the GSM version for us in Mexico? Do we still have to do the mmcblkp18 hack? Or just side load it?

Could you ask him to check the result of the following fastboot command ?
fastboot oem get_unlock_data
It will let us know if the bootloader is unlockable with this update.
it's is very good, but i'm waiting for latam rom.
Amazing news! Let's hope that someone managed to pull it so that we 'll get it soon!
I keep pressing the check update a few times a day maybe i'll get it also

because of locked bootloader, you must flash the boot.img, you can't just make an image of the right mmcblk and copy it,
we would not need kexec if it was that easy
But he forgot to copy the ota file before flashing so, we have to wait an other OTA
As I know no one who is looking for a root exploit for the job update I will start. So anyone else searching for it please write me a pm as we can team up.
But I find it really important that this thread isn't messed by people saying that they are needing root rights and have lost them because of the update. Everyone knows that and it's just not helpful. I will appreciate all help full contributions.

Only working on xt912 because of the older smart action version...Looks like they have fixed it that's why we can use it as we have the newer version of smart actions and as it is a systemapp we can't downgrade or change to the needed version because you need root for it...

can't we take a rooted system of someone who managed to keep his root and create a flashable zip to use and thus gain a rooted system?

You surely could there are several in the dev section, however you'll need root first to instal through a custom recovery lol

You'll have to erase cid to flash eu or usa there's plenty of info on how to , i recommend using bmm for this task.

I recommend upgrading to jb eu
You'll need to root your device
Instal bmm
Erase cid
Rsdlite to ics en.eu
Root device again
Update su binaries
Temp unroot
Instal jb update..
That's a brief desription , i strongly recommend reading the forums first .

And it's dangerous. I'm lost in a problem that I forgot to wipe my CID while was trying to do the same thing: RET-Brazil -> RET-EU
Now my device is bricked and I'm trying to solve this problem before going to sleep.

You should backup your CID before erase it to somewhere safe like in your PC or sdcard, because the CID is unique identifier for every phone. You will need it someday when you want flash the original ROM back.

If u dont know how to do, I advise you to be patient and wait, because JB is coming to Brazil soon

Same thing happened here
Yesterday i was trying to apply the JB EU on my XT910 (from Vivo here in Brazil) and the phone got bricked 3x times.. haha. I sucessfully restored it to the factory defaults using bmm (restoring my CID that i previously backed up) and flashing the retail en br!
I think that my flash failed because i erased my CID after i flashed to the JB kernel and the 4.1.2 EU. I'll try it again in some days and post my results!

As for the root - there is no working way, you will have to root your phone once more.
