I have the exact same thing, no matter what Rom, firmware, kernel, version of Whatsapp, router, modem, whatsoever. It sometimes just happens, no idea why.
When this happens I have a good signal. I'm on 2.3.6, and have the latest whatsapp version.

What did the Whatsapp developers say when you contacted them?
yeah these issues still exist... got it now on my device.
got I9100 on latest cm10 nightly (8th Sept.) with latest whatsapp version. and if you read all comments on the market you'll see that many ppl got these problems. sad
same issue here with i9300 stock ics
it works only on mobile data and when i turn the wifi on Whatsapp doesn't work
tired of deleting and reinstalling but same issue !!!
BTW my device is not rooted ..
i have been using what's app for good 4-5 months now and today i just got this issue. whats app won't work on wifi unless i turn it off and turn 4g on. i tried uninstalling and deleting the folder and did a clean install. it still won't work.
Just hit me last night
Got the same prob since last night!!!
tired to uninstall and reinstall it + boot my device million times and still won't work over wifi but my damn slow edge network!!
i have sent a email to whatsapp costumer's service and still waiting for their reply
These are issues related to the whatsapp Servers or sth. For me it works again. Without reinstall and so on. Just wait ... and tell them bout the problems
I've had this same problem for at least 6 months... doesn't work on WiFi but is fine on data...
What seems to happen is when you turn on WiFi it works fine for a while... but then stops getting or sending messages completely... just sometimes randomly it may start working again... say if you have lots of messages backed up to receive... at times it may start working again... but that means asking you people to bombard you with messages and still its not a sure shot solution...
Quite annoying I must say... especially considering reception is really bad in lots of areas and WiFi is the only way...
WIFI Whatsapp
Sort of same problem here, when i am on wifi and whatsapp and my phone is on there is no problem receive and send.
But when the phone is on standby after 10 to 15 min no more messages receiving, wifi is on.
when i turn the phone on and open whatsapp the messages pop in....
On data without wifi no problem.
WIFI setting always on.
Same problem buy not consistent. I have found a kind of fix, if your rom supports it, I use the long press back to force close function, then restart usually solves it. Alternately, pressing home, then swiping it off the task switcher sometimes helps too. Sometimes all you have to do is wait it out.
Was this problem solved in any of the updates. It appears as though I'm having this problem on one of my phones. It's the stock ROM with great wifi signal.
EDIT: I realize this is the S2 forum and my problem is an the optimus, but I am inclined to believe this is a whatsapp problem

The same problem started happening in the past couple of days. I a using CM 9.1. I enabled the Kill Application on long press of back button and you're right--After I did that and launched WhatsApp, the waiting messages (with the clock icon) went through and I got a check mark, then two.
Weird. All the other apps are working fine with Wi-Fi.
Same problem on my HTC sensation

I travel a lot and i was in India Last week and this week i am back in germany and it suddenly stopped working on saturday.
Any Solutions would be really appreciated.
Try this! Worked for me !!
I used VPN which worked for me . But i wanted a permanent solution. So I upgraded the modem firmware. Now it is working fine
Sorry to post here, but Im facing the same problem on my galaxy s5. I've tried a lot of things and nothing seems to fix it. I've changed my wifi router and the problem persists.
anyone came with a solution?
The problem is on the wifi router. I changue my router two days ago and i hadnt no problem with the old one.
If you retry to download pictures, it gonna works, but its really slow. Try to changue your wifi router to a newone
***********SOLUTION*****************
Guys,
I have also faced the same problem and here is the solution:
There is a Problem which started on 10th November. BSNL has blocked whatsapp.. BSNL users can not use whatsapp through wifi or dongle.
But there is a solution for this.. :
Install " vpn one click" or "Easy Surf VPN" app
Connect to India server
Or any country
Once ur done with this, u can use whatsapp and all the other sites blocked by BSNL
Enjoy Whatsapping

Hi guys,
Me and my girlfriend have both a Samsung Galaxy S2 running the official ICS 4.0.3.
Since the upgrade to ICS, Google Talk won't connect on WiFi anymore.
When I use the 3G network, Google Talk works fine. As soon as I connect to any WiFi network, GTalk goes offline and I am unable to send/receive instant messages.
As I said, me and my girlfriend have the same issue! And it appeared only after upgrading to ICS.
GTalk version is: 4.0.3-239410 (330)
I already performed a factory reset of both phones and also of my home router.
Any other internet application (Google Play, Internet, Facebook, etc...) work fine on WiFi.
I have also searched the internet but there are only a few others affected and there is no solution provided to their problem.
Solved
Hello again!
As I said, me and my girlfriend had the same problem. 2 days ago, the battery of my girlfriend's phone went empty and the phone turned off completely. We never tried to turn off the phones completely until now.
After she turned on the device again, Gtalk started to work also on WiFi.
Then she told me that Gtalk is woring again and I restarted my phone.....of course it didn't work for me. Then my idea was to also turn off my phone completely. After turning it on again, BOOM !! Gtalk started working also for me!!!!
I have no logical explanation for this, but I am really happy that I can use Gtalk from home now, when connected via WiFi.
So, reboots didn't help, but complete shut down did help.
I have the same problem on S3. My GTalk also started to work after turning off my phone. But then I went out for a while and phone was connected to 3G. When I came back there was the same problem again, phone connected to Wifi and GTalk offline. In this case turning off helps again but I think it isn't best solution for this issue.

I have just bought S3 few days back . Its with Jelly bean 4.1.2. I am facing the same issue. Notification works fine in mobile network but not in home WIFI. The problem starts only if I change twice in between wifi to mobile ( wifi -mobile -wifi ). I am using notification for Facebook messenger and Gtalk. I tried to do factory reset or hard reset or tried in friend's WIFI but nothing works to that problem. Only i thing I see, it works if I reboot the phone then the notifications start to work again in WIFI also.

Same problem here. WiFi firewall maybe??? Have you tried with different wifi networks.
(SII CM10.1)
Hey All,
I'm experiencing a weird issue, and I'm hoping someone can help me out. Yesterday, I moved from Shanghai to an apartment building in Chicago. Internet is included in my new building--just need to provide your own router. I have a Netgear N600 router from a few years ago that I plugged in, and everything fired up properly and looked great. But I noticed that my wifi bars remained gray with no Google Services sync. I have a Nexus 7 and a Nexus 4, both rooted and running CM 10.1.2. The only mod I have on either is LTE enabled on the N4.
I hadn't used this router in over a year, so I did a factory reset and went through the setup wizard again. I also checked for a firmware update, but there wasn't one available. The reset didn't solve the problem. If I flip my wifi off on the N4, I immediately connect to T-Mobile 4G data, and all of my Google Services sync. When I turn wifi back on, I reconnect to my router, and my Google Services sync stops. I can force a per-app sync by going into Gmail, Google Voice, etc., but there is no background sync.
Any thoughts about what might be the culprit here? And suggestions on what I might to try fix it? I would appreciate any thoughts or ideas.
Thanks.
Okay, I spent several hours trying to troubleshoot this yesterday, and I haven't resolved the issue yet, but I think I've narrowed things down.
I tried a different router, and I had the exact same issue. I ran another factory reset on each router, and neither improved. Google services continue to work fine outside of my apartment. So I figure that has to indicate that the problem is in the service being provided by my building.
I called to see if this was a known and if there is a way to set things up to avoid the problem, and I was told that there is a firewall, and that they need the port number and protocol in order to allow access. Does anything know this information for Google services?
It doesnt matter if the symbol is either blue or gray. If you remain to have a good connection you can ignore the symbol.

The problem is that my services are clearly not syncing. Gmail and Google Voice notifications don't come through unless I open the apps and refresh, for example.
I found a thread that listed TCP ports 5228 and 14259. I'm going to have those ports opened up to see if this resolves my issue. I'll report back in case anyone else ever experiences this problem.
Hmm it is weird.. Let us know what you can discover

TCP ports 5228 and 14259 were just opened up, and my wifi bars immediately turned blue on my N4. At the same time, I heard several notification alerts on my N7 in the bedroom.
Looks as though, if you have a firewall, those ports do need to be opened up for Google services to sync.
Interesting! Thanks for sharing
Hi all
I have had my tab s6 for less than a day now and keep getting an issue where the wifi drops out and will not turn back on the only way to get it to turn on again is to restart the device it has happened 4 times and I have only had the tablet for just under a day.
Does anyone else have this issue and I'd do is there a known fix (have seen this reported by other forum users)
I posted in the WiFi section but I'll add here too. I'm getting the same thing multiple times a day. WiFi quits working. If you toggle it off in the settings it will not toggle back on. Restarting the tablet fixes it for a while.
No issues here. Works perfect (but comparing to my Kindle Fire HD10)

one thing i have noticed is it is only happening on some networks it does not appear to be happeing when i am at work but does at home however dont think its my wifi as multiple people are repoerting the same issue on the samsung website reddit and here.
Same here, no issues so far at work, but happening regularly at home. I wonder if it is a specific brand of WiFi router or a feature like mimo that is causing the tablet's WiFi to crash.
I'm using Netgear Orbi's at home with all the advance features on.
Happens a lot to me, I'm using Ubiquiti mesh access points. I wonder if it's related to mesh networks specifically.
Happens to me as well. From time to time, Wifi hangs/crashes on the Tab S6 on my Netgear Orbi mesh network at home. Reboot required.
I suspect it is some feature that is causing the WiFi crashes. I may try turning router features off to see if it makes a difference. For now it is just annoying but easy to reboot. I'm hoping the next firmware update resolves it. I'd expect there to be a bug fix one coming within a month or two after release.
Same issue
OK so at least it isn't me. I'm having the same issue. I'm on Google wifi. Sounds from the commenters that everyone is on a mesh wifi. Could that be the problem. Has anyone contacted Samsung about this already?

Not sure if mine is mesh or not I'm on talk talk in the UK but only have 1 access point however my hub does swap between 5 and 2.4 ghz so that could be causing it for me. And there is a thread on samsung community US and EU about the issue. If you just Google tab s6 wifi issue it comes up.
Possible work around

Good to know it's on those forums also (sorry but the more people experiencing the bug the more likely it gets fixed).
I did not have any issues with Wi-Fi until I stalled Blokada adblocker's latest Version. I re instalked the previous version and I have no issues again.
Whilst I'm not using a mesh WiFi at home I do have a router that swaps between bands. I'm thinking that this could be the cause but I don't have the issue at work (Meraki)

i have seen reports of it happening on both
the main thread seems to be on the samsung forum here
https://us.community.samsung.com/t5/Tablets/Gal axy-Tab-S6-Wifi-Issue/td-p/832800
i have also posted a review on the samsung main website highlighting the bug to samsung and this is the response i got.
i would suggest we all go and write a review on there website as this would help to highlight the issue as widespread and hopefully they will fix the issue faster.
I have the same problem which happened on my home router when I went to another room and my other devices auto change from 5g to 2g the Tab 6 would not connect and when I returned to the first room it would not connect to the 5g network. Had to reboot. Where

On your Orbi, what advanced WiFi features do you have on or off? (Beam Forming, MU-MiMo, Fast Roaming) I have them all on and am seeing the issue only while at home on the Orbi WiFi. I'm wondering if one of those are causing the WiFi crashes.

I didn't change any settings, stock settings is what i have but i'll check when i get home and post a screen shot
I've scoured the internet for every forum thread or article I could find on this issue, and I've tried many of their fixes as well as my own. I own an unlocked S10 lite North American variant. So far the only app I have found that doesn't perform properly is Snapchat, and the issue is only with sending messages, not receiving or viewing them. Messages will sit on "waiting to send..." until I turn off WiFi and go back to data, after which they will immediately send. This is a really big issue for me as I use Snapchat very often as my main mode of communication for most of my friends and family. Luckily I have unlimited data, I'd be screwed if I didn't. If anyone needs or wants more info I'll be more than happy to provide it. If anyone has any ideas on how to fix this, they'd be much appreciated, I've been dealing with this problem for about a week now and it's really starting to bug me.
Edit: I'd also like to state that this issue has been happening for me since I bought the phone brand new last week. I have not done any modifications such as rooting.
Go to settings and search for Wi-Fi control and in that check for Snapchat, it is allowed or not?

I have two routers in my home... It seems to only happen when I'm connected to a 5g router, 2.4Ghz works just fine as far as I can tell.
Edit: I stayed on my 2.4ghz router and now snapchat is acting up again after about 40 minutes, however it was functioning correctly until that point.
just ran across this setting in mobile data and was wondering if you had checked to see if any apps were set on this.
