[Q] Xperia P locked bootloader restrictions - Sony Xperia P, U, Sola, Go

I always thought without unlocked bootloader/exploit based root I cant install custom ROMs
Now I saw the Xperia S Miui4 ROM that also works with locked bootloader?
I would get a sweet deal with my provider for a xperia p but it will be net/bootloader locked.

Xperia S was rooted with an exploit, i.e. a vulnerability in the code. There's no such thing for the Xperia P.

thx for the clearification. I just saw in one of the sticky post that no exploit root was available for the XPS, this information was just not updated since april

[Q] Rooting & ICS ?

Just got an xperia mini and have some questions about rooting & Ice Cream Sandwich....
I want to root it to uninstall space taking apps, not much of tinkerer apart from that.
If I root it now, will that mean I'm not able to update to ICS when its made available?
Will I need to unroot? (if so how do I do that?)
Or am I just better off waiting for ICS, and then rooting? If so what are the chances ICS will be rootable?
thanks in advance!
I didn't cared about ICS updated,i just rooted my Mini PRO to remove apps
and i felt that after rooting my mobile became more powerful
Try it at your own risk
You may use doomloards help for rooting, search the forum here on xda
And i don't think unrooting will help you to recover your warranty
as after rooting you wont be able to keep your mobile under warranty and auto updates will no longer work
I used ftf packeges to update my Mini Pro,you may try that if you want to update your Xperia Mini

you can go ahead and root your device, doomlords has now a rooting technique that will allow you to root your device without unlocking the bootloader plus you can get official updates and you can reload any official firmware for your device.
Unlocking bootloader will void your warranty bur you can install a custom firmware/rom just like Cyanogen Mod.
Basically rooting will just add a super user account on your device, but still you can enjoy getting official updates from SE.
I have WT19i (SE Live with Walkman) rooted but boot loader locked.

Recovery + Root for Sola

Hi I'm new to the Sola and while it's been in the market a few months, I haven't seen much about rooting or recoveries...
Rooting
Is it true that for now, you can only root by using an auto-root kernel or flash a pre-rooted image?
Recovery
I haven't seen any recoveries in the Sola dev section. Can we download these as apps or are they just in some kernels? Any other way?
Bootloader Unlocking
To do any of the above, you must unlock the bootloader? Did Sony not say recently that this will probably void warranty?
Thanks, and hopefully this will be useful to all new Sola users...
p.s. I note that the Sola has the same chipset as a number of other Sony 2012 devices...that helps for porting, no? :victory:
I just found this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1669906&highlight=sola
If you search Sola, recovery etc. you will NOT find this I believe so it's good to get it noticed. Though the work in that thread is fantastic and we are lucky.

[Q] Struggling with my P

So i've recently discovered this wonderful website and hoping that it can breath some new life into my xperia P. But i'm a bit stuck at the moment, currently my phone is contracted with o2 (i'm not worried about voiding the warranty) and is running JellyBean 4.1.2, Build 6.2.A.1.100. I want to install something new preferably KiKat, now i've been following the xperia P Starters Guide i've managed to root it and i've installed CWM but i'm stuck at the unlocking bootloader stage and i think i already know the answer, my bootloader status is set to no which i'm guessing means i'm stuck?
Would installing a stock xperia p firmware make it so i can unlock the bootloader?
Do you have to have bootloader unlocked to run KitKat or anything else?
Unfortunately, currently there's no possibility to unlock such devices, same case as me
Well thats lame.

Can I unlock bootlaoder and root Togari GPe on 5.0?

I've done some searching but since my gpe is mixed with Sony's version of z ultra on xda, I can't find a straight answer. so I'm pretty sure its no. I wanna root and add a custom recovery to a z ultra gpe that's already on 5.0. I bought it this way.

The issue that I see is that the only safe way to unlock bootloader is to root first and back up TA partition prior to unlocking. As far as I know there is not an exploit to root 5.0 yet. @DooMLoRD posted some rooted images but never got around to posting instructions how to use them. I unlocked my bootloader on 4.4.3 GPe and everything was fine till 4.4.4 update which broke camera and only fix was to revert to 4.4.3 and not allow it to update.

XA Ultra F3213 - Want to root

Hi everyone,
I have a Xperia XA Ultra F3213.
Build number: 36.0.A.1.114
Phone Software Version: 1300-9523_36.0.A.1.114
Android Version: 6.0
I would like to root this phone. My bootloader is unlockable. I know that there are many threads that exist for rooting the xperia XA/XA Ultra, however many of them are over 6 months old. Not only are they a bit older, they do not provide much information of compatible software versions. There are a lot of threads of people who have recently bricked/boot looping/problems with their Ultra and rooting. Can anyone confirm a solution that will work for my exact software/hardware version? I am tired of ads and any non root ad blocker I try is garbage compared to adaway/modifying the host file.
Side question. Once the bootloader is unlocked I know that OTA updates will not work. Am I locked out from upgrading the phone once I unlock the bootloader, or is there another way to update the phone (and probably lose root). I'm not too worried about this.
Thank you!
I have unlockable bootloader F3213 too and it seems there are not much developers interested in xperia xau.
I gave up the rooting and I also heard once you root the xperia XAU it will turn off some kind of camera software so camera will only work on low definition mod.
Hi, you know that there is a possibility to backup your DRM keys (TA partition) before unlocking the bootloader and you can use a DRM fix to restore lost features? It's not because the root guide is 6months old that it will not work today,I helped an user to root his F3212 on Telegram few hours ago with files released here After root you can update your phone with Flashtool. I think you didn't searched more than that how to do...
