Ok guys I read the newbies posts and the Q.A's and Im alittle confused on where to start. I would like to root my GS2. but dont know with which software? Also what are the advantages and disavantages of rooting your phone? and is it possible to devert back to orginal software 2.3.6 after rooting? Is it possible to BRICK your phone? I came from apple and can tell you everything about jailbreaking but dont have a clue about rooting or where to start? Is there ICS for my phone and if so is it stable? Also is it possible to get paid apps for free like the Iphone?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Aye, ill give you that.. heh. But working a 10 hour work day will do that.
I just "updated" my Galaxy Note by using Odin to install the new leak 4.0.4 and was wondering if somebody could point me in the best direction for rooting my device. Not a "noob" but I'm new to Samsung in general. I don't want to brick my device or possibly mess it up in any way. Also I would like to be able to install further releases of leaked roms and root again. Any advice and information would be helpful. Thank you

You are respectfully asked to read the stickies that answer your dumb question
as far as i know you need to flash clockworkrecovery odin version, after that you can use cwm to flash superuser file that will give you root. read "official" leak thread, it has been covered few times.
Thank you. Figured that would be the response lol I'll do that

Everything begins with ODIN. Flash Leak thru ODIN then flash CWM recovery thru ODIN. Then download the SU 307.zip and flash thru CWM. That is all you need to do to root your phone. You should be able to do everything in less than 15-20mins.

I wanna know the same thing.. woke up to it this morning. Great question.
No one is asking you to update to kitkat, that version is not released by Samsung for the S3.
Only way to update if you are rooted is flashing or kies.
It's all in the general forum, sticky threads, go read and learn.

so instead of giving the answer or assisting, you waste just as much time explaining to us the search feature.. obviously he wouldn't ask if he knew what to do. get off your high horse.. jesus. I woke up with this morning with my phone asking me if i wanted to update to 4.3... so technically it is asking you to do something.. and if you read the question correctly he asked what would happen to his phone not how to go about updating..
You both need to read and learn instead of asking for an easy answer, which won't help you if you brick it through ignorance. You need to follow xda rules, search before posting.

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I717 using xda premium
Yes there are many links for rooting on that page. Can be quite confusing and not one tutorial that I saw which was simply laid out. You don't need to flash a kernel to root. You don't need to worry about the flash counter. You simply need to install CWM with odin and install superuser with CWM Go here and follow the directions.

A Google search for "root galaxy note I717" brings up 4 links to the same site, 2nd link down is for a very simple ICS root method w/video (linked above by Agoattamer) on rootgalaxynote.com.
+1 to trying his method, and it will hopefully get you what you're looking for.

I don't know, I'm not everybody. How did you? I had my phone rooted long before the super thread. And I used the link I gave for the OP. It is universal, simple, and fully documented. And you don't have to jump to many threads to pull all the files together. I am just stating, I did not see a link in the super thread that had this all laid out for noobs like this. Do you?

Hi,
Now before you ask , yes I searched on XDA and Google but I didn't get a specific answer. I own a Samsung Galaxy S2 i9100 , I'm on ICS 4.04 , XXQL6 and IMM76D.XWLPT . I searched on XDA how root with XXQL6 and people said Siyah.
Can any tell me they exact file to flash and what to do in Odin?
Thanks alot
