Ok this is a weird one
I have a factory unlocked (not setool) x10i with Unlocked Bootloader
Manufactured 2010 Week 13 (10W13) on reverse of phone under battery
originally my phone was using the software for
X10i O2-UK GENERIC 1234-4762 1232-4289 O2 Pay monthly UK/Sensuous black
but o2 took too long for gingerbread so i used a world generic to update to gingerbread, i think it was nordic
the main problem i am facing, is no matter what rom i install, i get COM.ANDROID.PHONE force close, the weird thing is, another member has exactly the same setup as me, but i get the com.android.phone FC. it only seems to affect some people.
Today i proceeded to format my sdcard, re-stocked with seus, re-rooted, and installed one of the roms which i get com.android.phone Force Close
But i still have to flash a secondary fix otherwise if i receive mms i get com.android.phone FC
which doesnt make sense as the other member installs using the same procedure as me and he can receive mms instantly
Any ideas??
And Thanks

I used to have similar problems, I'd suggest a simple fix permissions in recovery. Not guaranteed to work. Then, try to revert to 2.1, see if you still get error. If no, then upgrade officially then root. After root try installing other roms but keep a copy of your system apps. I had a continuous force close of pretty much every system app so i formatted, factory reset my phone and installed my rom from fresh with everything wiped from battery stats, dalvik and regular cache to user data. Another thing worth trying is flashing the v9 ftf of champ's rom? Post a log cat too? Final thought, try a different firmware as a base, or try different android versions to see if the problem persists.

Google will back up everything
1. Paid for applications ( I had a G1 2 years ago and after 2 years of not having an android phone, my aps from my G1 days were still around)
if your going to backup files, use the free version of Titanium Backup, I dont think you need root access to backup those files, if that's all your doing, but if TB doesnt work there are literally hundreds of backup applications
Also go to contacts, and export all of your contacts onto your sdcard, it would be a .vcf file that you pull from your sdcard once you mount it to your computer
I think you should be much more careful - the data needs a much more thorough wipe. Factory reset is definitely not enough.

Because it was a ****ty NOKIA phone.
about sd card, you could buy another card to be extra secure heh.
there are softwares out there where you can really erase your files so that they will be "unrecoverable". you might try it.

downloaded build 3 no problem, tried to flash it after wiping cache and davlik and was rewarded with a nasty bootloop. hmmmm. So i reflashed 7/17 cm7 then downloaded #2 and flashed it, no problems then #3 flashed fine. Be forewarned it totally wiped my data dunno if it was the bootloop or if the nightlies do that. So make sure you flash #2 first!! Also it wiped my Glitch kernel and installed some dirty wolverine one. Will install all my apps and test drive it.

Wiped cache and installed #3 just fine, no data loss. And yes it will overwrite your glitch kernel with the included one. Just reflash whatever kernel you want, but beware it may bork something if the fix is the kernel.

all android phones have a recovery, that might be a folder used for the initial flashing of the firmware. what we're after is a custom recovery (like clockworkmod) so that we can install unsigned/custom packages/roms.

Correct.
At the moment devs are working on making it work - in fact we got so frustrated a few days ago we just went to sleep after a million tries

First I am not able to encrypt the device... this is a requirement of my company to have corp email. Second, when I try to enable portable hotspot mode Setup crashes.
I have looked around for another mention of this but have not found it so if it out there I apologize in advance for the spam.
Thanks

Darkside seems to be the issue. I stopped using it after the initial ROM install. So basically, follow the steps EXCEPT DON'T USE DARKSIDE, and you'll be fine.
Just checked my hotspot, it's working just fine.

Agreed don't dark side I couldnt get anyone of then to install until I just did them as non wipe updates. I did the base then rc1 let it boot then rc2 boot then rc3 boot. no wipe just flash.

I have tried with and without the darkside wipe. I get the RC1 to install and it starts to reboot, but when it gets to the last dos page or whatever it is and the bottom lights come one and it vibrates but then the screen just goes black. The bottom lights stay on and it keeps vibrating but the screen will just stay black. Even after 20 minutes.
My problem must be somewhere with the busybox thing. I even use CWM to fix permissions..
After the initial install, i downloaded busybox, installed it, launched it, hit the install button, then downloaded Rom manager, installed it, launched it.
You need to hit Reboot into recovery first for superuser to popup to grant Rom Manager root permission, then now you can hit Fix Permission, after that, I rebooted into CWM and installed the RCs
I followed that exactly and still have the same problem. Just doesnt make any sense to me. I skipped the rom manager part before because I thought you could just fix permissions in CWM but even after using rom manager and allowing SU permission I still have the same problem after flashing RC1. So annoying, I have read through the whole damn thread and tried flashing about 40 times now.
Maybe try fresh downloads. May have a corrupt file somewhere.

Hello!
A question for you knowledgeable people.
I am traveling and has recently had all sorts of problems with my S2.
- Some are resolved, but others are recurring despite resets.
I am very dependent on the device as I use it's hotspot feature as my primary and only internet solution.
For a while I was keen on installing a custom ROM. Especially after CyanogenMod released their installer for dummies. However, I am traveling with a Macbook and Mac/OS X support is not available yet .
I'm not really in need of the latest features.
I dislike bloat wares, am tired of all the little bugs, the GPS seems to malfunction sometimes, I have 3 batteries yet the battery life is poor and the RAM memory is allocated quickly so the phone becomes slow.
I like Google's new photo app (supporting photo sphere) so I would be happy if it worked fluently. In addition, the phone restarts itself every now and then, after which the battery reports 1-10% battery life and slowly grows, even though it might be fully charged.
Now to the question:
Can an alternative ROM improve my experience? If so tips on which?
Is there alternatively anything else I can do, besides just restoring?
Perhaps something that will wipe everything followed by a complete clean install with the Stock ROM?
I do not know how optimized the recovery feature is. From experience I know however that after a couple of Windows Restores it is often in place with a clean install.
Ideas and tips are warmly appreciated!
If you wish to wipe everything and keep the stock rom, you can reboot into recovery mode (Hold down volume up, home and lock button at the same time upon booting), and navigate to wipe data/factory reset.
In regards to custom roms improving experience, there are many different types to choose from, as well as many different kernels to choose to perhaps improve battery. Head over to http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s2#romList and start exploring!
Rom recommendations are forbidden here due to being ridiculously subjective (I.E your experience with a rom will not be the same as mine). AMcGavin's suggestion to have a look at a rom list/head over to the development sections & read some rom threads is a good one.

Thank you! In such a case (if I do the *wipe data/factory reset*) - Do I then need to download the stock ROM as a separate file, or is those files being kept on another partition?
I also saw a big warning message on CyanogenMod's Wiki - That some devices bricked after doing so from Stock ROM. Is that something I should be careful about?

Is this relevant to the wipe/factory reset -procedure that we are talking about?
Thanks a bunch!
That brick happens mostly with ICS 4.0.4, but you should take care nonetheless, as the warning says install CM first without wiping anything and then go to recovery and wipe.
But after installing CM I would have changed the bootloader from original to Clockwerk, right? Do I still have that option there?
Sorry, I'm new in this jungle. Looking at the ROM list is even more confusing in terms of making a decision. CM seems to be a bigger one so I'll give it a go.
Sent from my GT-I9100 using Tapatalk
Clockwork recovery can still perform a factory reset.
Keep in mind that once you install a custom rom, doing a factory reset does not reset it to a factory image, so to speak. It won't go back to stock, just the factory settings of the custom rom. To go back to stock from here would require you to reflash it back on.

No. Recommending roms is forbidden for the reason I mentioned in my post on the first page. This thread will be closed soon.
Thread Closed
Recommending, best Rom, anything along those lines can cause offence to the developers, cause heated debates and everyone has different opinions, therefore, this thread type is not permitted on XDA.
Thank you
