Hi guys
Question: Does anyone know of an app, that can also give us Android users the kind of functionality on the Iphone 5 pull down? (See Screenshot)
I would like to see my mails listed, maybe the first 2 or so, with sms, weather etc?
I have looked, maybe this is a nice dev opp?
There are apps you use to get like this, but one single app, i think we still dont have...

For the Pull Down Notification Bar Toggles try "Notification Toggle" free from the market...
That's right. I can use the search function.http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1353414

yeah, sorry. I saw that. Perhaps should have mentioned it.
I'm on stock 2.3.4. and it said it wouldn't work.
so thanks for re-using the search function for me.
Don't get me wrong but the notification/widget implementation on iOS is not pretty efficient in my opinion.
I'd hate to be constantly pulling down just so see what's up with the weather or whatever.
I rather have my widgets on the unlock screen or desktop as Android does.
Cheers!

Idk if this has been mentioned yet, but i use this feature everyday...no more swiping the top of the screen to adjust brightness level.
Is there a new shortcut for this? It's very handy.
oh man are you serious?? I too use this feature ALL the time no joke... hmm maybe I should put off this update? lol. Can someones else with ICS please confirm this?
Unfortunately it is indeed gone (I used it very often before, too).

I just went back stock and updated today and can confirm it's no longer there. I noticed the same with the ICS leaks that have been out recently but just thought it was something to do with being a leak.
Unfortunate, I really liked that feature.
A lot of the CM9 based ROMS have this feature available.

That is unfortunate. When I was on the stock battery and stock I'd use that. However, now with the extended back I just leave it on auto

Do you all really not look in the market or on google for apps or do you just come here for answers cause you don't wanna take the time to look? Here is an app that does exactly what you want. You can control brightness by swipeing the top, bottom or side, your choice. It can also bee seen or you can make the bar transparent https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rubberbigpepper.DisplayBrightness&hl=en
There is another app, Notification Toggle which mimics that of the 15 toggle mod that we were seeing around a bit before. You can put it in your status bar so all you do is pull down and set brightness from there plus a whole mess of other stuff.
Hope you enjoy.

Wow! After using the app porkenhimer suggested (my new favorite app : thanks) I can see what the other gentlemen were talking about. That would be a feature I would miss and ask for in future roms.
If you don't have this app, get it asap.

anyone know why certain threads in stock SMS have the contacts name appear in blue rather than white? cant figure it out for the life of me.
also does everyone else sms start at the bottom (earliest) thread rather than the top. i have to scroll up every time i open the app.
Been wondering the same **** lol
I've noticed the same. Except which ones are blue seems to be totally random.
I figured it was a small unfortunate glitch.
maybe facebook contacts? i dont have this problem nor a facebook so, maybe thats why?

Starred in Android? Favorites? Phone contacts?
its totally random and now that i think about it, i haven't seen a blue thread in days. I wonder if its coverage related?
Did anyone flash Mad Industries ICS Blue toggles from the VZW dev section? I thought thats what did it because I noticed this after I flashed that Mod. On my phone the 2nd, 3rd and 4th threads in my Messaging app have it but all others are regular. Then if I delete a thread and a different one moves into one of those positions that name becomes blue. I dont really mind it and if it is that Mod that did it I dont care even less cuz that ICS Blue toggle mod is the shiz!
The blue threads aren't the ones where the last text in the thread is yours?

It's texts you haven't responded to, or have a draft outstanding. Take a blue one and start a response, it goes to white. Delete your text good back to blue

yeah its definitely not the last one you responded to. that doesnt seem to make a difference for me. i did notice that over usage time everyone of my threads turned blue even days old messages with no activity that were previously white. then upon restart of the phone its back to a mix.
so maybe i have missed it but the lockscreen missed call and text notification circles gone? if so anyway to get them back?

The notification bubbles are in fact gone with this release of Jelly Bean. But if you're rooted, there's a simple way to get them back:
Using a file explorer such as Root Explorer. Navigate to the system folder, enter the CSC folder, and change the name of the customer.xml file. I normally just add a .bak to the end of it, so customer.xml.bak. Reboot the phone and you're good to go!

I followed those instructions and it didn't work. I'm running rooted 4.1.1 on a VZW Note 2 . Any suggestions?
I as well tried this to no avail. Rooted 4.1.1 on a VZW Note 2
Careful, when you say lady and parts in the same sentence you got the attention of people. Thanks about the quick notifications!

The only thing I can think is that you're not using the stock launcher, or the stock messaging app. These notifications bubbles won't work with something like Handcent or GO SMS, or GO Locker.

Using the stock SMS app but I am running Nova Launcher but not the Nova locker. Funny though..I ran Nova Launcher on my S3 and still got the bubble notifications on the lock screen.
I looked through the customer.xml file and didn't notice anything that would allow or prevent that notification. Do you know what section/setting in the xml pertains to that option?

I couldn't tell you. I just know that this is a trick that I picked up while using my S3. Renaming or deleting the file entirely fixes the notification bubbles.

entirely? i have tried this and it does restore them but also adds a really annoying tutorial thing about swiping to go to messages, it doesn't have a Don't Show Again option it just says OK, and it keeps coming back.
if you know a way around this that would be great.
i am using es file explorer to rename the file (only tried customer.xml.bak)
Anyway to make my phone not wake up when I receive a text? I can't find it in the settings or anything. Im also on Jelly Beans.
Sent from my SCH-I605 using Tapatalk 2
this was the same way on the s3, as well as the note, not sure about other samsung devices. but the answer is no. they made it like an iphone, it will wake up no matter what unless you custom rom it with CM or something pure google like.
Ah, really? Well that sucks lol. Oh well, it's not a guge deal or anything.

There has to be a setting somewhere in the code that wakes the screen up for these texts. Has to be. It doesn't just do it because it does it.
Someone will find it, and make it bend to their will. Just give it time.

I decompiled it earlier to look at.
There is no bools.xml so its going to be in a method.
I'll know more once I locate it.
The method that ive been using is this:
Disable sms notification on the native app
Install sms popup
Uncheck the popup when recieved option on sms popup
Configure the rest of the settings
(500ms for light, 5000ms for off time)
???
Profit.

The solution I found that worked for me was to disable all the notifications in the stock messaging app and have light flow control the sound and led notification. I've had light flow on my other Samsung phones and it's proved to be a great investment. Now whenever I get a text i get my sound and my led lights up red and stays on. much better on battery.

A big reason I want it to not pop up, cause I feel that's why my light flow isn't working cause I have it set so screen on makes the notification go away. I don't always want to have to open the app, but want the light gone.

I too use this method of preventing screen flash on text. A little bit of screen time adds up when you are trying to milk your battery for all its got. Not much a huge deal on this phone though
