[2.3.4][SV1]Custom SBF and unlock/lock zip files - Motorola Photon 4G

YOU CAN FLASH THESE, UNLOCKED OR LOCKED, IF YOU NEVER FLASHED ANY OFFICIAL 2.3.5 OR NEWER OTA OR SBF.
THIS KEEPS YOUR BOOTLOADER UNLOCKABLE!
If you want to know more, read here.
I am not responsible for any damage, you are not forced to flash these.
DonĀ“t flash anything from here, if you do not know well, what are you doing.
Most of these sbf files are based on 198_7 sbf.
Radios:
198_7 radio sbf ----- 198_7 libmoto_ril.so (or older) needed, flashable with recovery
254_12 radio sbf ----- 254_12 libmoto_ril.so (or newer) needed, flashable with recovery
Be sure to have the right libmoto_ril.so first, then sbf.
Flashing radio through RSD Lite resets the radio and can solve "Modem did not power up" issue and switched baseband in phone info.
Others:
Unlocked bootloader sbf
Locked bootloader sbf - failed to boot 1? - unlock again - you cannot lock
Unlocked bootloader with microboot and TWRP 2.2 recovery sbf - easy unlocking, with custom recovery installation
- repaired, sorry, I did a mistake with adding not dumped TWRP
Locked bootloader with microboot and signed recovery sbf - mainly for reverting previous sbf - failed to boot 1? - unlock again - you cannot lock
- do not ever format system for relocking ability, use deleting when installing roms
Full:
You will find them all here.
Unlock zip for bootstrap recovery:
http://d-h.st/aVy - just flash with bootstrap recovery and reboot (maybe power off or battery pull will be needed
Lock zip for bootstrap recovery:
http://d-h.st/LWb - this is the locked one from 198_7
There can be anything in sbf for unlocked devices.
I am not taking any credits for unlocked bootloader!
One important thing about modules.
In every rom, there are modules for wifi (dhd.ko), wimax (bcmsdio.ko) and VPN (some vpn*.ko) and some other .ko (maybe not important, but they are there).
These modules work only with the kernel they were built with (don't know why).
Example: You want to be locked and you flashed 198_7 sbf = you flashed 198_7 boot.img ("kernel"), then you flash some locked rom without kernel = you reflashed the modules, but still have 198_7 kernel = wifi and wimax is not working, so you need to get these two puzzle pieces together again.
You have two choices -
1- flash 2.3.4 sv1 moto-signed boot.img corresponding with the rom modules
2- flash modules corresponding with the kernel you have (198_7 in this case)
Very similar important thing applies to radio and libmoto_ril.so.
198_7 radio = 198_7 libmoto_ril.so
254_12 radio = 254_12 libmoto_ril.so
But here it's not so strict -
-198_7 radio = USC_19 libmoto_ril.so without problems

I am locked using MOF rom. To flash the 254_12 radio, I would-
1. flash 2.3.x_libmoto_ril.so_254_12.zip with Bootstrap Recovery
2. flash 2.3.4sv1_254_12_radio.sbf with RSD Lite
EDITED- didn't realize there were two links for radio download, one for sbf, one for zip

You don't need to search for libmoto_ril.so, there is link.
First flash the libmoto_ril.so, or you can get modem panic reboots.
Then flash the radio with rsd lite.

Thanks, didn't see both links, could you please slightly edit the links so they aren't directly next to each other so no one else makes my silly mistake.
Thanks again!

If I am unlocked running MOF's 2.3.5ish ROM and I flash this locked bootloader, will 4G service be restored?

It depends, which boot.img and recovery you are running.
I suppose your boot.img is from stock 198_7 sbf.
You need to flash "locked with microboot and recovery" and 4g should be working.

Awesome, thanks! Is this also true if my boot.img is from stock 198_6 sbf?

Yes, should be fine, if wifi is working for you now.

Ok, thanks! :good:
If someone is rooted and running stock, can they unlock their bootloader just by flashing your "unlocked bootloader" through bootstrap and avoiding the traditional pudding derpunlock method?

Yes, it's only unlocked bootloader, which is enough for unlocking. Properly flashes without fail and automatically reboots.

If we relock after unlocking do we get 4G back or is it lost forever?

Yes, you get 4g back if you relock

Ok, let me make sure I fully understand your latest goodness. To unlock a stock ROM, one just needs to root and bootstrap your "unlocked bootloader with microboot" then to relock just flash your "locked bootloader with microboot". Correct? When are the bootloaders without microboot needed?

Ok. Let's guess, that you are on stock, you can flash unlocked bootloader with recovery sbf, using rsd lite, you can enter the recovery right after flashing, install some rom without boot.img and lock again by flashing locked bootloader with stock recovery sbf.

I think I understand now. It is necessary to "flash" your bootloaders (locked or unlocked) with RSD Lite and not with Boostrap/CWM/TWRP recoveries and the recoveries are just needed for custom ROM installation, right?

These are sbf files, they are always flashed by rsd lite.
Except libmoto_ril.so, it's zip.

Yes, I see now. Because these sbfs are zipped, that's what was throwing me off.
I thought you figured out a way to make them recovery flashable.

Yes, I did, but that's another story. You can lock your phone with recovery. But there is always problem with wimax and wifi modules for the right kernel. Let's say, there are at least 4 of them now - 198_6, 198_7, 254_12, 254_13 boot.imgs.
Not sbfs flashable with recovery, but bootloader, to be clear.

When flashing your "Unlocked bootloader with microboot and TWRP 2.2 recovery sbf", is it no longer necessary to enter fast boot mode and unlocking with the UNIQUE ID? Flashing your sbf does it all for you?

If you sbf back to 198_7 via rsd lite, it will relock your bootloader and you will be back to stock photon.
Like the previous poster said, flash a stock SBF, it will bring you back to an "out of box" Photon, Stock ROM, Kernel, and Recovery. So basically just flash the SBF via RSDLite if you want to go back to how it was when you first got it (stock rom).
now i install stock recovery and relock the boot loader just now i will install sbf via rsd lite is it right?
im in alien rom but i relock the bootloader when i power on the appear failed to boot is it ok?just now need to install sbf 198_7 via rsd lite?
Flashing the sbf with rsd will lock your boot loader and install the stock recovery for you, I have done this many times, works like a charm

[Q] Confused about RUU firmware and mainver

Back from Moto-land with Rezound. I've flashed several ROMS and one I would like to flash now says that I must firs be on the leaked 3.11.605.22 firmware.
I thought that when I flashed a rom and it rebooted into bootloader to install the PH98IMG.zip file, that it was installing the necessary firmware. I'm confused.
How do I get to the necessary Leaked firmware. I've searched and googled, but everything I find, indicates that I cannot install the leak, because I have already used the HTC unlock tool. Again, confused
I appreciate your help!
ruu isn't a Tom that loads the kernel afterwards. the leak is flashed all at once which appears to be how kernels are flashed. flashing the leak requires the lock then it flashes everything together but remember it wipes all data with exception of external sd
Followup Q1: So is it possible to get to the RUU 3.11.605.22 firmware, WITHOUT re-locking and flashing the leak? (not concerned at all about full wipe, do it with each rom)
Q2: If I do have to re-lock and then flash the leak, do I first have to return to a 100% stock state (ie, restore all the bloat-ware and such)? (if you've ever had a Bionic you know what I'm talking about)

A little confused. Android Police says you have to be fully stock with a locked bootloader to install 605.22. According to this, I don't have to be stock, I just have to relock it, and be aware that the full RUU install with radios will wipe my entire phone except external SD? (I wouldn't ask this except that it directly contradicts the AP post.)
And do we have the ability to re-root the resulting ICS installation?
And there's no other way to apply just the radios and the pre-rooted (Non-RUU?) version?
Does the pre-rooted version also do a full wipe?

So far no other way to get the new radios , sounds like the only reason the OTA leak worked was the way it was packaged. This new leak isn't packaged the same way so you would have to relock and run the RUU to get the new radios.
Personally, all I did was reflash stock recovery before hand, but I had to run it a few times to get it to work fully and at one point I just relocked with amon recovery installed and ran it and it worked just fine. It wipes recovery as part of the installation and installs the updated stock recovery.

Sorry for the questions, but when I do all of this, will I still have the Amon Ra recovery, or does this return to the stock recovery (which I assume it does)?
When the PH file is flashed in recovery it will overwrite whatever recovery you had flashed previously and leave you with stock everything...including recovery.
Sent from my ADR6425LVW
I was able to upgrade to the new ROM and then re-unlock my phone. But when I put Amon Ra in SD folder as PH98IMG.zip and reboot to the loader, I am never prompted to install it. Furthermore, attempts to get into recovery result in a green circular icon followed by a red triangle with exclamation point.
I tried all sorts of resets and reboots. Right now I have a green recovery option, but no working recovery. The top line says "UNLOCKED".
I've tried Amon Ra 3.13 and 3.14.
Download this file.
Place it in the same folder that you setup for the HTCdev unlock.
Rename it to "recovery."
Go to the command prompt and type in this command: cd c:\nameoffolder (mine is c:\Android for example)
Boot into Hboot
Select Fastboot
Connect to PC
Then type this exactly : fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
That should get you loaded with Amon Ra.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=19205213
Installation instructions are in the OP.
What you see now when you select recovery in hboot is what is considered stock recovery

Thank you. I had already figured it out, and this is exactly what the problem was. Last time I flashed with a PH98IMG version of recovery, but this latest version that I have is for Fastboot. Thanks!
Never thought it would be such a relief to see the "TAMPERED" warning, lol.

Rooting and unlocking BL

hi, i wanna root and unlock bl so i can flash miui jb, and the pudding guide with the preinstall root and stuff seemed a little to complicated for me, so i wanted to know if its possible to flash the pre unlock 1mb sbf with rsd lite, then fAstboot oem unlock, then fastboot flash recovery recovery.img, then flash superuser zip from recovery. plz tell me if this gonna work
Yes, you can do it that way too. The /preinstall method is most useful for rooting a stock system with stock recovery and locked BL. If you're going to unlock the BL and flash custom recovery anyway, might as well do it this way.
Personally, I see nothing complicated with the /preinstall method, that's how I rooted mine when I first got it... But that's just me.

From CM10 to Stock??

Passing my P3 on to my wife and need to get it back to stock.
Got as far as loading the 3.2 firmware from sammobile using fastboot as Odin won't flash.
It recognises an OTA update but fails to download the update. I actually think that it fails to install but in any event it get stuck.
The kernel is still at 2.6.36.3 and baseband is the P7500 one.
I think that the kernel is located in the boot.img but it doesn't look like I am able to overwrite it with fastboot.
The bootloader seems to be replaced but I still have a unlocked bootloader.
Any ideas?
Thanks

You need to restore the stock recovery as well, ClockworkMod Recovery wont handle OTA updates.
Do fastboot flash recovery [recovery img] to reflash the stock recovery.
To re-lock the bootloader, try fastboot oem lock (not tried).
Note that it appears that even if relocking the bootloader, manufacturers have ways of knowing if the bootloader has been unlocked. However, since the purpose is to give it to someone else with possibly less technical skills (that does not require the feature), a locked bootloader is an added security.

thx pruano, the stock firmware contains a recovery image. This writes ok ... I also tried locking the bootloader - it locks ok but with the same results
It looks like the kernel might be the problem ...

Did you flashed ALL the imgs (boot.img, recovery.img and system.img) from the PDA archive?
You can always erase/format the partitions with fastboot erase/format [boot|recovery|system] before re-flashing the images... (important note: if you erase/format the boot partition, do not leave recovery without flashing a new boot img).
I would also restore the stock modem (you need the one from P7100BUKE2, as P7100BULB4 does not have it) - for this you will need Odin.

Pruano, using fastboot, the erase command seems to work but format does not. Why do you say that I need Odin to flash the modem? I have done this with fastboot previously using "fastboot flash radio modem.img" ...
Edit: Pruano, you put me onto the right track. The modem was the problem. Once I got the original modem from P7100BUKE2 installed it all worked fine - even with unlocked bootloader.
and just for interest i had to use: "fastboot flash modem modem.img"

Yes, unlocked bootloaders do not interfere with OTAs
Regarding the modem, in truth it was a long shot, just a step to restore to pristine state.
The knowledge that the P7500 modem works best with custom ROMs and flashing it as a common procedure is relatively new, no wonder one had to guess that it would interfere with OTAs (as its not obvious, probably the OTA install does some kind of background safety check using the modem firmware as base); good to know for the future.

So based off of what you have said:
-Your bootloader is still locked (you haven't said 100% for sure that you are unlocked)
-You may or may not be rooted as well (again, you haven't said if you are or are not)
-You want to run stock recovery, which is the recovery that Moto ships with the device, which is entirely useless for custom ROM flashing
This is the guide you need to root and unlock http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1302423
