hello,
I just got SGS2 (I9100 model), it had costumed operator rom, which I wanted to root.
The android version was 2.X.X, and the kernel name was something with "KG2",
* so I downloaded the right CF-ROOT (CF-Root-SGS2_XX_OXA_KG2-v4.1-CWM4, also tried with CF-Root-SGS2_ZS_OZS_KG2-v4.1-CWM4)
* entered it to "PDA" section in ODIN 1.85
* entered to "Download Mode" in the phone
* clicked "Start" in Odin.
Odin successfully finished running (it took 42 sec), and the phone rebooted but got stuck on the "Galaxy S II logo" with a warning triangle.
I'm so upset right now. how to revert what i did?

Flash stock ICS then proper CF-Root.
Flashing kernel should take 7 seconds.

If you can get into download mode use CheckFus to get your latest stock firmware and flash it with Odin. Then write down the firmware version and search for the corresponding CF-Root kernel as you already did for your old firmware.
Root via new method...
Google for it ;-p

I'll try the "FIX THE UNFLASHABLE GSII" guide tomorrow and update you.
right now I cant do nothing because the battery is empty and no matter what I cant load it. why it's happening?
some symptoms:
* I can't even got to download mode, it's says that the battery is low. even if the phone connected to the computer
* the computer doesn't recognize the phone, but when it's connected there's a big empty battery pic on the galaxy.
btw, I really think that my windows drivers/usb ports screw me over. (for example kies never recognized my phone and I had other problems with the usb, sometimes it recognized the phone, sometimes not.)

Things to try to charge the battery:
1. remove battery from device for some minutes
2. reinstall battery, connect AC wall charger and watch what happens on the screen
3. charge for at least 3 hours without doing anything else with the device (let it charge even if it does not look like the device is charging)
When the battery is charged:
1. check if entering download mode works again
2. if download mode does not work try with a JIG
When download mode works:
1. uninstall Kies
2. install USB drivers only from here
3. use stock USB cable
4. check if ODIN can connect to device
5. if 1-4 does not work try ODIN from another PC
If all works well, restart by flashing the latest stock firmware for your phone.

How to find the latest stock firmware for my phone?
...
MistahBungle said:
If you can't get into download mode, that's probably a moot point. But, assuming you have and I9100/I9100T, look here, Samfirmware or use the PC version of Checkfus to download the latest stock firmware for your phone model/country/and carrier if you want a carrier branded firmware (you can also often get unbranded country specific firmwares with Checkfus if they are available for your country).

When I''ll get a new battery and hopefully get into download mode, should I just burn this firmware with ODIN? I don't need to root the phone first?
(the original fw was not-rooted)
...
Problem Solved!
in a very simple way, just tried from another computer and stock usb cable.
I flashed original branded Rom and it's just worked.
problem probably was one of those:
* bad windows drivers
* bad usb cable (not likely)
* some other **** got wrong with windows
thank you all

and something happened in Odin3 and it froze, so I took the battery out and tried to restart it and now all I get is a blue and yellow screen that says Android System Recovery. I don't have anything backed up on the device, it didn't come with a microSD card, and it now says
Deleting Cryption Meta Data
-Copying media files....
#manual mode#
updating application....
applying multi-CSC
and that's it. When I hit reboot phone all I get is a screen with a triangle and an android symbol and when I hit apply update from sd card, same symbol, even when I tried to put a .TAR file on my dad's EVO microSD card and put it into the galaxy.
Also, now the USB cable doesn't recognize my phone for some reason so when I go back to ODIN mode it says
Product name - GT-i9100
Custom Binary Download - Yes (1 count)
Current Binary Samsung Official
When I try to restart the phone, it goes straight to the android recovery screen mentioned above, where I can't do anything, and then when I get into the Odin mode, it won't recognize the usb cable so I can link up to Odin3 V1.83 on the computer. Also tried the usb cable on other computers didn't find my phone. Also, as of right now it's not rooted, but I was in the process of rooting, when I realized I missed the Over the Air step so when I Odin3 an insecure.TAR file the WIFI was broke so S2 Root kept saying can't find usb connection even though it was connected, and somewhere along the line when I was trying to restore the radio's by installing the 3 files above, when it crashed something messed up? I know this topic is old, but I am essentially having the same problem, I don't think it was really solved for the first guy, he can't flash the original rom using odin, because odin doesn't recognize his phone. And that is my issue too, I'm able to get into download mode/odin mode whatever, I plug in the usb cable, nothing, odin doesn't recognize it, I don't get a little sound like I do when I usually plug in a usb cable. Please any ideas would be appreciated.

Try different versions of Odin (for example, if you're using V4, try V3 1.3 & V3 1.85 and vice versa), try different USB ports (particularly if you're using a port attached to a hub. You need to use a powered port), different USB cables & finally different PC's/different versions of Windoze if you need to.
Also, when you fire up Odin, check Task Manager in Windoze & make absolutely certain Kies or any processes associated with it (if you're not sure what these are, Google/search for them) are not running at the same time. As I've said, you need the drivers that come with Kies to use Odin, but Odin won't work if Kies or anything associated with it is running at the same time.
Try uninstalling Kies on your PC (you need the drivers that come with Kies for Odin to work), rebooting, reinstalling Kies (search for it), rebooting.
If none of that works try cleaning the USB socket of the phone a Q-tip (cotton bud) & some isopropyl alcohol. And if that doesn't work, it might be a case of the USB circuitry of the phone being shot (unless you haven't tried the above steps or are not following the right steps, which we'll never know because we're not there with you).
Was also having the same problem. I managed to get round it by flashing an I9100 package with all the files (PDA, PHONE, BOOT, CSC, PIT) and ticking re-partition. If I'm right, this completely wipes the phone and flashes this over, basically leaving you on a fresh slate.
Hope I helped!

Using PIT files is not recommended more brick a phone by flashing PIT than rescue it .

Hi there,
I tried a number of ways to change the ROM on my phone from the stock to an upgraded or custom ROM. Using Odin I was always able to at least get the stock ROM back up and running.
This time I tried ClockWorkMod and something has gone wrong. I cannot turn the phone on, boot into recovery mode, or download mode and the phone is completely unresponsive. Nothing appears on the screen.
I've tried re-flashing the stock ROM through Odin and it will recognize that the phone is there and connected via USB however when I try to flash the stock ROM back onto it the program hangs at:
<1> Setup connection...
I'm running from Administrator on Windows 7, I don't have Kies installed, I have the most up to date Samsung USB drivers.
I really want to at least get the phone into download mode to flash the stock ROM back on... is really hope there is a way to do this.

just curious... how you try re-flashing through odin, while the phone can not boot in download mode?
when you charge the phone, does it show the battery indication?
I get no battery charge indicator while the phone is plugged in via usb...
However Odin does recognize that I have the phone plugged in. I hoped that this would be enough to send a flash to it through Odin but it gets stuck at '<1> Setup Connection'
I'm currently installing Android SDK. If the computer knows it's there maybe I can send a command to make it reboot into download mode?
you need to have kies to let odin work

Ok re-installed Kies and gave it a go.
While Kies was open I got:
<1> --- cannot open the usb serial port. code: 5
I'm assuming because Kies was trying to do something with it at the same time.
While Kies is not open I get:
<1> setup connection... (<Hangs here like before)
Installed android SDK.
Tried running: adb reboot download
Response was: error: device not found
Both Kies and Odin know that something is there, but the SDK doesn't seem like it knows it's there and doesn't look like it can send commands to it

Run
Code:
adb devices
And that will tell you if it is actually in download mode... it should list the device then the mode it is in on the right..
Most of the phones that couldnt boot into download mode were diagnosed as bricked, from what ive seen here in XDA, the SGA community.
However, you could spend a small penny on 3 100ohms resistors to create a USB jig as a last resort.
Try this :
-Put out battery
-Plug the usb cable pc - ace
-Make manipulation for download mod : home + power + sound - and plug battery in the same time
-Device go to download mod
Flash trought odin =)

- (USB) Disconnect your phone from your computer
- Start ODIN
- Click the PDA button, and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar
- Put your phone in download mode
- (USB) Connect the phone to your computer
- Make sure repartition is NOT checked
- Click the START button
- Wait for the phone to reboot
Im sorry its just my first time doing anything like this xD
yes instruction is correct,
Make sure dirvers are installed, Kies to be killed,
once you connected the phone to PC (connect to mother board USB socket backside)
the ID:COM box will be highlighted in yellow, and in the message box you can see "added"

uninstall the Kies, download the latest version from Samsung install after a PC reboot, after install reboot PC, (kill means not unistall, close the applicaion, also check in your system tray)

if you have successfully flashed correct CF-root from ODIN, thats it, next is your duty to google for rooted applications.....
@ UpInTheAir : for my knowledge if I am not correct,
Download mod itself is a debugging mode, not essenstial to do it from Menu...
the people who did not enable the debugging mod and bricked the phone or stuck on boot logo have been flashing ROMs by enterin into download mod without any treble...

Make sure you are in odin mode on the device. I came from HTC One and didn't put my device in Odin mode. Duh.. right? lol.
You can get into Odin mode by doing "adb reboot-bootlaoder"
for the best results:
1.use an official Samsung cable
2. unplug all unneeded usb devices
3.reboot into download mode again
4.connect to a usb 2.0 port on the back of the pc
5.run odin as an admin
if that dose not work, make sure kies is removed, and re-install the Samsung drivers,
reboot pc, and try again.
solved similar problem...
reboot your phone into download mode, but yet not proceed, plug into pc, open odin (as administrator), put the firmware files in their respective places, and finally press vol up to proceed in download mode and press start, it must solve, if all else does not help .. hugs

This worked for me after having so many problems. Nobody was clear on how to fix it. I had soft bricked my phone. It wouldn't connect to Kies or allow any pit or rom being flashed to it. Everything would fail. I tried doing what you said and it worked. I always got the errors 'No pit partition' etc.
I plugged in the USB without the battery in.
Phone wouldn't switch on into recovery without battery in so I put it back in.
I then took it out and Odin wouldn't connect to it and start the process without the battery in so I put it back in.
I loaded up the pit file and started it! You should have seen my face! haha! It worked!
It booted up! Hooray!
I switched it off and booted it in recovery mode.
Installed new rom (hopefully this won't break)
Thank goodness for that. I feel your pain guys. If you need any help just message me.

So as you can hopefully appreciate I am a little peed off with myself & for the life of me I cannot see away out of it so is there anyone out there please who can shine a bit of life on my troubled phone & please do not forget that the USB Debugging is NOT enabled.....
Kind regards with thanks
Phil
UPDATE
I have now tried flashing CF-Root-SGS3-v6.4 with Odin3 v1.85, but whilst the phone appears to be making a full recovery & Odin confirms a successful flashing it stops on the black Samsung welcome screen with an exclamation mark to the top left hand corner to the screen, so could anyone advise me what my next step should be please?
flash a stock rom through odin.

when you flashed the ROM, did you unplug the USB connector?
sounds like you bricked your S3 mate
You said that you flashed CF-root?
CF-root flashes recovery and kernel for root access.
Download a full stock rom from sammobile and flash it :good:
USB Debugging has no affect on download mode...
Upon Odin confirming that it was successful it was then & only then did I unplug the USB cable

Given that Odin confirmed that it was successful after the flashing the the latest UK firmware from Sammobile I then unplugged the USB cable, but I then found that the phone hadn't actually finished & instead it stopped on the black Samsung welcome screen & it won't budge from that. This may or may not be the reason for this, but I feel that I may have forgot to enable the USB DEBUGGING, so would this cause the phone not to boot correctly?
As I am unable to boot the phone, I am also unable to enable the USB DEBUGGING, so is there anything that I can do to resolve these issues please?

You say that the USB Debugging has not effect on download mode so why do other users/developers stress that it needs to be enabled?

I have a same problem with OP.
After entered to recovery mode and wiped/cleared cache, I didn't boot the phone, just continue to download mode.
It's mean USB Debugging is not enable after recovery. Now my phone can't boot also can't charge just appear msg:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again."
Recovery via Kies can't be done because my phone have a problem IMEI=unknown and Baseband=unknown before this happen, so Kies can't recognise the phone. If IMEI is valid and Kies can connect the phone, the problem can be resolved by Kies.
I hope someone here have a good solution how to resolve the problem that ODIN can't reflash the phone because 'USB Debugging' is not enabled in the first place.
