Static interferences on screen - Asus Eee Pad Transformer Prime

Hi,
I've a strange and creepy problem on my prime, sometime the screen and speaker (tablet) show some static interferences, the screen messed up display horizontal bars white (in landscape ) and noisy cracking sound.
When it appends, I reboot the tablet, and the problem is gone.
I already tried a factory reset, but the problem is still here, occasonial but still here.
I am on last stock firmware. I've got the plan to root my prime, but it need to go RMA, I prefer to rid of this problem before.
Did someone encounter this bug before?
Thanks.

If it's only on the left side about an inch, then it is a known issue a lot of us have. I haven't had static in sound.

Well, no it's horizontal "static" bars wich appear randomly on all screen surface, next time i'll try to record it with my phone camera.

Something like that:

but far worst in my opinion. It's like flickering to me.

That's pretty similar to what I have, but usually it goes from the bottom all the way to the top of the screen, but only on the left side while in landscape position. It goes away if I move the screen from landscape to portrait, or reboot. Sometimes just locking and unlocking is enough to fix it. It was really bad when I was running motley's kernal 3.07 and interactive governor.
Now I don't have it as bad, I'm using Motley's lite kernal, with SIO, Ondemand, and sql patch. All I get now is a flickering lower bar and sometimes the left side corruption, but locking and unlocking screen usually fixes it.
If you'e getting this all over the screen, then that's something different and an RMA might fix it. If you're in the states, some best buys are replacing them with a 700, which is likely better.

Weird Flicker when turning on the screen?

Hi everyone!, I'm having this really odd issue with my S2. I've only had it about a week now and this could have been happening all along though I didn't notice it.
Basically If the screen is off and I hit the power button is has this really slight flicker as the screen comes on. It's almost like a single line down the screen right before the wallpaper appears. It's also right-justified on the screen and always in the same spot.
Has anyone else had this issue? It can be reproduced by simply hitting the power button to shut the screen off then hitting it again to turn it on.
Thanks!
Edit: Also the screen doesn't always fade on. 3/5 times it will just "instant-on" where I'll hit the power button and it will instantly show the lock screen tile instead of "fading" into it. Does this happen to anyone else or does it ALWAYS fade in?
I'm probably just being paranoid but I'd rather replace the phone quickly to avoid actually sending it to manufacturer.
Thanks again!
You should take a video of it so we can see if it is normal. I don't see what you describe, and not sure the phone is supposed to "fade in" to the lock screen. Mine is always instant on.
I once flashed to Litening ROM and it had that flicker (lightning style) as a feature I guess, is it the same problem OP stated?
Regards.
Saw it once two days ago, vertically on the extreme left of the screen. Haven't seen it since, but it was very rapid - blink-and-you'll-miss-it job. Can't say it worries me. On Revolution FWIW.

sorry I can't take a video since this is the only device that I own that is capable of taking video.
anyway, yeah - it's really quick. And it's vertically down the screen. I kind of assumed that it was the backlight turning on but I'm pretty certain that happens on the sides right?
Right now it's 10:00 and this issue happens right where the "1" is on the clock at the top of the screen. So starting from that 1 all the way to the bottom.
Again it's REALLY fast - but it's noticeable, I'd have no problem showing it to someone in front of me. It just looks like a single line about the same width as the "1" as well. It almost seems like the one tiny line is showing before the rest of the screen, like if the screen were a "loading process" that line would be the first thing to appear before the rest gets backlit.
Not sure if it matters but it's the model I9100M from Virgin, just incase they are made differently somehow.
This phone has no backlight. The LED's are all individually lit.

Hmm, not the same problem as me - certainly nothing to do with the time here - it was in the afternoon when it happened with me, and my lockscreen clock's in 12 hour format. Clock's also at the bottom of my screen.
Been trying to reproduce it, and can't.

No no, I wasn't saying that the clock had anything to do with it, I was just trying to describe where the line appears on screen. I was also talking about the clock that appears at the very top, not the one on the lock screen. If I just continually tap the power button on and off I can see the "line" appear every time exactly in that spot.
It's pretty noticeable, unless you have the phone away from you - so if you don't see it then it probably isn't happening.
Does anyone think I should return this and get another? I don't really want to run into issues later and have to send to manufacturer. Is this problem big enough that I could get it replaced without issue?
Thank's for the replies!
Sorry, misunderstood. Definitely not my problem, I have no clock in the status bar.
If it happens every time, I'd probably return it if I was you - could be the precursor of something more serious.
Hi again, Thanks for the replies. I realized today that the issue is really only noticeable if you're in a dark room. Even in a semi-lit room it's almost unnoticeable which is probably why I hadnt seen it thus far.
If anyone wouldn't mind flicking the lights off and taking a look I'd appreciate it. If not I'll just return it.
thanks again forum!
I experience it too (at least I think we are talking about the same thing)..it's like it's stuttering and lagging after being in standby. So the first time it renders the lockscreen, the first few frames seem to be rendered at a different pace. If you turn the screen on after a good break, it'll likely do it, but after a few times in a row it instantly shows the screen.
Perhaps it relates to how big the wallpaper for the lockscreen is. I'm not sure, but I've had some huge 2mb pictures set as wallpapers for the lockscreen, and afterwards I think I decided to select a smaller image. I don't know if it was just a placebo effect, but anyways..it still does it with my current picture. I don't really care. You could try a different lockscreen from android market and see if it helps, but I think every SII suffers from this.
I have this exact issue too and it really annoys me! I also bought the phone from Virgin if that is relevant. It's a white streak on the left of the screen for me and only happens every so often. So what's the prognosis? A software fault? Hopefully fixed in a subsequent firmware update? Or a hardware fault worth repairing?

An eerie screen glitch on my prime

Well, the only problem that I can't live with on my prime is a very weird glitch on the screen. I've noticed this in the Repligo reader app and I am not sure if it happens only in that app. The screen flickers in a noisy fashion. I don't mean that the brightness varies but what I mean is part of the screen momentarily appears like a kind of static signal that you may observe on an old TV (dunno if new TVs do it too).. sometimes the glitch looks a bit different. let me add that this happens rarely... like today :/
Anyone else ever encounter this?

try a soft reset to see if it clears it. put paper clip in hole underneath micro SD card slot. or it could just be a compatibility issue with app itself. do you have force gpu rendering enabled? if so, this is known to cause some graphical issues with certain older apps or whatever. if its enabled, turn it off. it should be off by default. to check, go into Asus settings. then developer options. scroll down and look at force gpu rendering to see.

No, it is off. I checked it immediately once I had the problem. It is a weird bug and happens very rarely. And since it is rare, I dunno if it is problem with that app or it is a coincidence when I am running it. Seems like there is no way to reproduce it consistently to check out the cause. Oh well, at least it is rare.
mine also does this. except not in any particular app, just randomly.
Did it in the camera yesterday, it did it on the home screen 4 days ago when i got it. i am going to take it back next time it does it i think. but am guessing i will need to show them what it is doing.
I had this problem last night, I think its time my BCKOKAS goes home for a cleanup.
Can you guys do a little test?
Steps to reproduce:
1. take the tablet out of the dock (if you have one), turn the screen on.
2. hold it in landscape with your left hand
3. draw an imaginary line between the little arrow guide on the bezel and the clock on the status bar
3. find a point somewhere around half way on that line
4. squeeze the tablet at that particular point using your thumb (on the bezel) and the index finger (on the aluminum back, exactly underneath the thumb)
Please tell me whether you get static on the screen. I have it happening on mine (I have the champagne, CO1 version). One of my friends with a CO2 doesn't have this however, and I'm curious whether this is a widespread issue with CO1, or mine has a bit of a problem. On a side note, it doesn't really bother me, I have it happening very rarely, only when I squeeze it that way or sometimes when I use my right hand on the back next to the right edge to tilt the screen towards me.

screen problem - text is flickering

I have a problem with my gtab. the screen is kind of flockering. Not the problem with the screen flicker when the tab is low on ram, which was solved with the latest kernel. It is some kind of ... grainy effect. I notized first when I read a Pdf file where the background was black and the letters white. The letters were a little bit moving, as if the pixel were not constant. then I notized it is the same in the taskbar when on landscape, but not on portrait. the numbers of the time were grainy. furthermore the letters of the Apps in the Appdrawer, grainy but only in landscape, not portrait.
How can I solve this problem?
rom is Infamous AOKP latest kernel 1.9.1
should be p7510 - p4 wifi

If with grainy you mean that you can see the pixels, that is normal as or device doesn't come with the highest resolution. If it is really moving, that would be odd and is not something I see. Did you check whether it is also present on stock ROM?
Verstuurd van mijn GT-I9000
I know the screen. I mean not the normal grainy letters coming from low ppi.
The pixels are definitly moving, not all pixel of a letter/number only some of them.
I didnt see something on stock, no.

The flicker is even there in CWM and on the SGT 10.1 Boot text
I'd like to push this, maybe someone could help me, although I got a new tablet a while ago.

Perhaps, it is repairable, I already opened the GTab.

Hi,
I am facing the same problem. I watched your videos and its the same.
Did u get it checked. Please let me know if you solve this.
Thanks,
AV
Nothing as of yet.
Tablet can be switched on but lies somewhere around
Now I am on a KK Rom - Omni.
Not suprisingly, the flicker is still there...
push?
Any help?
It looks you have a faulty digitizer and/or screen. Since you tried almost every ROM you can safely rule out a software problem (you did test this with a stock ROM as well, right?). So I'm guessing it's hardware related.

Itsa me again...
My tablet seems to be fine again :good:
What did I do?
Two things:
1)
I left the screen on with power plugged in. Nothing else
I do not know if this did the trick.
2)
I overclocked the tab to 1.4 GHz, activated WiFi Bluetooth, max. brightness and ran a stability test with graphics.
I then wrapped the tablet into a blanket (heat generation).
After 15 minutes I heard the battery (it was charged only to 15 % before)
And it was quite hot.
After cooling the tablet down i read a few PDF and no flicker...
Now I have two tablets, one Asus and one Samsung
Any comment on that procedure?
Unfortunately it is back again.
I burned the tablet again, but nothing. Didnt work this time.
Do you have any suggestions how to fix this?

For anyone interested, some info about screen flickering issue.

Seems that a lot of people complain about this bug/glitch. It mostly happens with this device, specific to some carrier like s5 t mobile etc. Mostly what people face is flickering with a green/yellow nuance that covers at least half of the screen, and that happens when you set screen brightness on minimum. Some other ( like me ) also get the flickering while turning the screen on or off. So I started doing some searches over the web, and tried all the 'fixes' possible. Sadly to me nothing worked. Some of these 'fixes' are :
Turning off auto brightness.
Turning off adaptive display.
Turning off screen overlay ( found on developer settings )
Also other strange ones like removing your sd card etc. Few people say that these worked for them, but for me it didn't.
I tried booting on safe mode, and the problem was still there. I also flashed official 5.0 and the same. So the only thing left was to blame the hardware. But I was sceptical about this since the problem is not persistive, sometimes it happens, sometimes not. Sometimes it happens on small scale, sometimes it is worse. Also a lot of people say that their devices were working fine and the problem started after marshmallow update. A certain person on an online forum claims that he/ she spoke with samsung officials and they are aware about this problem and working on an update to fix this. Does this mean it is not physical problem but just a software glitch ? Hard to say, I sent my phone to different local repair shop and they say it is screen physical problem. But maybe they just want to scam me and take money ( new screen costs too much )
After going through all these, I just got the idea to try and flash an older firmware, like kitkat. And to my surprise, on official kitkat rom it still does the problem, but FAR less.
So TLDR if you have this glitch and gave up on all the 'fixes' you found online, try flashing kitkat, it might work for you even if it's not a permanent fix.
I'm sorry to bump this topic being that it seems dead. However after my own research and now my second S5 from T-Mobile. I'm at the same point as you. My research states that it's more of an AMOLED screen issue, which after a factory reset and flash of older ROM and such does make sense. However, at the same time it could be an actual issue with the screen.
It's definitely a hardware issue in my case-cold temperatures exacerbate it ie-I have no flicker issues in the summer, but get flicker issues in the winter if my phone cool's down to the 60s. The flicker goes away if I heat the screen.
It seems the lower the temp, the more wattage (brightness) is required for the display matrix to function; insufficient wattage/heat when the screen is activated, and the matrix collapses. This is why it autobrightness tends causes issues when it provides power below threshold for matrix stability.
Easiest legitimate econimical fix is ordering a replacement screen, if you have reaervations about yiur shop doing it, it's a very easy/cheap/simple process to do yourself and plenty of how to YouTube videos.
okay, I will solve this issue for yall. I have an s5 g900t that had the screen flicker issue and also when temps are cold, the screen would blank out till I warmed the screen. I fixed this issue after a year of having the issue. a temp fix which can damage the device was found by accident when I went to change out a broken rear cam. heating the screen with a heat gun during surgery fixed the issue for a while then the symptoms came back. after much much research and testing, I found the amoled screen was the culprit. I ordered a new screen and replaced it. no more issues. I took the old screen and replaced it to my other s5 which is for testing only and the screen flickered under low light and would not come on when cold. so, if you have a screen that is flickering in low light and/or wont come on during cold, its your screen. replace it and fixed. how long the new screen will last? well 2 years later no problems, yet.
FYI, AMOLED screens are notorious for this issue and the manufacture is well aware.

Flicker on Always-On Display only. Anyone else have this issue?

Brand new V30, just opened yesterday. Everything is running well except for a weird white flicker on the AOD. It's horizontal, from the edge in, about a sixth of the way across the screen. It doesn't flicker when anything else is on the screen but the AOD.
Any ideas?
Here's a video of the issue
https://imgur.com/a/QNioxAk
Thanks!
I would replace the phone, thats is 100% not normal, i have had my phone for 4 months now and this has never happened to me. Just to rule it out you dont have any screen overlay apps running right,?
edit: also a factory reset wouldn't hurt.
Does this also happen in low brightbess?
Looks similar (just in very very small) like what my display had after i crashed with my bike ?
I forced gpu rendering in developer options and changed the aod display to the normal clock and then back and it seems one of those two things fixed it. will keep an eye on it though.
Came back briefly this morning. will continue to monitor.
I got it on eBay which makes returning/warranty stuff a little more annoying than usual.
