Gallery issue. Regardless of rom. - Galaxy S III Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, I recently flashed Omega 10, did a full wipe. Had Omega 8.1 prior. All of a sudden, Im getting "not enough space. free some up" etc. And this is after a fresh flash. So thinking it might be a bug, I wiped again, flashed 8.1 back on and behold same problem. The odd thing is, I can take photos fine, etc, boat load of storage, I just cant open gallery. Installed a 3rd party app called quickpics, that opens fine, but spams me with "cannot open database" messages.
Any idea?

Have tried just going into settings apps/all and wiping the cache for your gallery.
sounds like it may just need to be cleared out.

Yeh, in recovery when I flashed, I wiped SYSTEM, CACHE, DALVIK, BATTERY & DATA. Just finished putting the stock rom back on, and excatly the same issue.

not thorugh CWM......through settings.
you will not be wiping the cache partition of the phone you will be wiping the cache of the app.
and worse case have tried just removing the app, rebooting and placing it back.....it may fix that memory error upon reinstallation if the wipe of the Gallery Cache does not work.

I wiped cache/data of both Gallery and Media storage apps, same thing. Copied the APK for gallery, removed it with rom toolbox, and reinstalled, same thing.

currently restoring to my nandroid backup, see how we go.

Restoring nandroid did the trick.

Good deal, glad it worked out

[Q] [CM7/mik's 6.5.8] Camera not working after nandroid restore

I tried to test V6 Supercharger, but it got stuck at the lg logo and then I had to restore my nandroid backup.
Everything was perfectly restored, except CM Camera app. It opens, it shows camera image, but i can't shoot (it's like i had touchscreen turned off) and also the gallery thumbnail is black. The image stutters and when i press "back" it causes a FC.
Also, I upgraded my ROM from 6.5.7 to 6.5.8 (wiping Dalvik cache) and the problem persists.
Camera itself is working well, as i'm using lgcamera and barcode scanner. But I really like CM original camera app, so what can I do to solve it?
I have a P500, mik's CM7 6.5.8 (problem appeared while I was using 6.5.7), franco/fserve's v20 at the moment (v19.2 before, i guess). Underclock at 480/600MHz with SmartassV2.
I have problem too. My fix:
Clear app data in aplications menu, then Wipe dalvik, wipe cashe and reboot.
If it fail, you can restore settings in app and maybe (last way) reflash rom
Well, I cleared its data, wiped cache and dalvik and still it doesn't work. I've already reflashed (to 6.5.8) but without formatting everything.
Thanks for helping, but do you have any other solution besides wiping everything and do a ROM clean install?
i dont know it for sure, but sometimes you cant restore apps if the android API has changed, so the app with same name is crashing if a "big" change in the android code was done,
its the same as you try to run a realy ICS app on gingerbread, it crashes too.
I had this same problem on an HTC EVO 4G running CyanogenMod 7.1 with the ClockworkMod Recovery. Wiping the cache and Dalvik cache did nothing. Until I installed Amon RA Recovery, and wiped the cache and Dalvik cache from there. Worked like a charm!
I've heard people say ClockworkMod doesn't always clear the Dalvik cache properly. Perhaps that's your problem as well? Good luck!

[Q] HELP! Odd problems - rom & recovery independent

Had a bad USB connection in my old phone, so AT&T just swapped it for a new one.
I immediately flashed Clockwork recovery and tried installing SlimBeam ROM.
Noticed some weird problems:
the notification bar is blank (I've got the toggles, but nothing else)
the home button didn't work (does nothing)
maps and other location-services failed to work (no network location errors)
Calendar data gives errors trying to sync with my Google account,
Contacts not syncable at all (doesn't even show as an option in sync settings)
So booted back to recovery and:
did a factory reset
cleared cache
formatted /system
installed slim & slim gapps.
Didn't install any of my own apps, didn't restore anything from Titanium Backup.
Not only did the problems persist, but I got android keyboard (aosp) errors on all text entry fields.
I thought I'd try a different rom.
Trying to install Paranoid Android gave me an assert error, so I SWITCHED FROM CLOCKWORK RECOVERY TO TWRP.
In TWRP, I did a factory reset, wiped data, wiped cache, wiped dalvik cache, wiped system, then installed Paranoid Android and the latest Google Apps.
SAME PROBLEMS, including the keyboard issue.
And I get an error connecting to the Play Store.
Anybody ever hear of something like this before?
The problem can't be in /system or /data, since I have wiped those before reinstalling.
And they appear to be independent of ROM and recovery package.
While it could be hardware related, in my gut I feel it must be something in the software.
Could there be a problem with files that ROMs and Recoveries don't touch? Something in the /dev, /efs, /sys, or some other folder?
I am curious to know what's going on, and am willing to do some troubleshooting and posting of logs.
But, more importantly, what can I do to get all this functionality working properly?

[Q] Every ROM I flash Is Slow And Buggy, Why!

Recently I flashed my phone with Cookiesandcream-quincyatt-1012 rom and my phone went all laggy and slow.
restored back to my CM10quincyatt that i had prior to cookiesandcream, and now that was acting all laggy.
I have tried several different roms(slim bean, liquid jb, cm9, cm10, and jelly beer, which seems to be working the best at least) and all of them seem to have the same issue, they act slow as soon as I use the volume rocker, and then my volume delays 10 seconds or so before it actually changes, and there not even sound coming from my phone. and is just laggy and has delays when i touch apps/settings etc.
aswell as soon as i boot up the phone after a flash, i get the gapps welcome setup screen(wifi setup, google account stuff, etc.)
i click "OK" and the button turns blue and will stay blue for 10 seconds before it actually does anything.
I have done factory reset, cache, dalvik cache, internal storage wipe.
Nothing seems to work.
It worked a tiny better after internal storage wipe, but i just need my phone in a useable state right now.
can anyone help? :s

Data.......you likely have either old data that is intended for a different architecture...
, or you are restoring data into the builds by using a restore app like titanium backup.
Several of the roms you mention are very fast and smooth when set up properly, but it is very important to clean the device before a flash, and keep it clean by installing applications from market..
Many users do restore apps via titanium backup and other applications designed to do so, but you must never restore the data associated with the apps from a previous build, unless it is the same build.
Wipe cache
Dalvik cache
data
and system...prior to any new build, and again, do not restore apps that contain data.....g

I have done all of the above many times, and installed new roms, the roms always end up laggy, the improve over time,
but once the phone restarts, it becomes laggy again.
also i have no sound coming from my phone at all.
music wont even play. I press play and it immidiatly pauses. even if i try to press play again.
and i have never used titanium backup, the only time i restore, is using the restore function in TWRP using a backup of a previous rom i had. I never ported any data from any apps using programs like that.
by the way, when i look through my mounts and storage(using CWM), it shows that all my things say "mount /efs" or "mount /data" and so on.
are all of these supposed to say unmount?
EDIT: Solved problem, Unrooted the phone using odin3 v3.04 and stock I717RUXLF4_I717RRWCLF4_I717RUXLF4_HOME.tar.md5 and re-rotting solved the problem.
Data corruption .....
I'm glad you found the cause .....g
than go flash black star, no chance of that problem

[Q] Defaults clearing after restart

Hello,
Lately I notice that some apps clear their default state after I restart.
Specifically: my keyboard app, my launcher and few more. I have set them as default again every time I restart.
This started only recently. I am using WanamLite 6.5.
Something in your phone has become corrupt, if clearing cache, dalvic then fixing permissions doesn't help then full wipe and reflash.
Thanks for the suggestion, but no go, sadly. This happened AFTER a full wipe and a flash - and clearing the caches and permissions didn't help.
This wasn't happening before, by the way.
Try going back to stock and see if it still happens.
Just wanted to let you know, for future reference, that the problem is solved in the latest WanamLite 6.6 XXEMD2.

[Q] Wiped dalvik cache using link2sd - apps wont load & processes crash

Hello!
Norwegian Noob here. I got the basics, nothing more.
I just used Link2SD to clean cache and to clean Dalvik Cache, and i may also have cleaned 2nd partition garbage.
Then i rebooted, and nothing happens. it just kept staying at the white "HTC" -screen over the night (gave it some time).
The morning after i went into CWM to wipe dalvik cache and clean cache. Then at reboot it needs some time (10min, i guess dalvik buildup?).
When its done and it gets to the "desktop", the apps just say "loading".
When i try to do something at all, i just get message saying for example "sorry, settings (process com.android.settings) stopped. try again".
Some apps can be used, like go sms pro, clockwidget, flashlightwidget, but no other apps like calculator, calendar, tapatalk.
Now if i try to reboot, it just keeps staying at the white HTC-screen. Then i have to take out battery, boot into recovery, delete dalvik cache again, and reboot. then the same thing happens again.
I would be happy for any suggestions i can get (and sorry for my bad english:laugh: )
My system:
HTC Desire A8181
Android 2.3
Cyanogen 7.2.0.1 (if i dont remember completely wrong, cant check as process crash)
Additional info; link2sd may have been automatically installed to SD, and may not have been moved to phone by me before i wiped dalvik via link2sd-settings.
No one with any suggestions?
Have to delete everything and install rom again if i cant solve this :-\

Sounds like you did more than delete just your cache and dalvik, couldn't say for sure but my guess is you have some apps or at least data installed in a partition you erased.
You will almost for surely need to wipe all and flash ROM or backup. You can try to fix permissions in recovery but I doubt it will help.
